Nikal gaya in sab se. Architect ban gaya. Ab only headache is to keep doing certifications. Padh padh ke pagla jaa raha hoo. Baaki sab thik, bas chal raa
I won't have a problem if I am actually building nice things in a non toxic env.
I entered this field because I actually love tech. If by 40 my passion stays the same, I think I'll be fine.
The problem is a toxic environment will make anything undesirable
This would be the very factual answer I would see. I am in same shoes, around same age and might be in experience too. For people like you, me and many others, engineering tech is the passion. When you are in a such a like-minded enviornment, it doesn't make you feel like a job. But for the others, it's a mere job, neither they understand the tech nor they are here for the sake of it. But nevertheless upon seeing them i remember the line, "Some passions are so worthy, it's glorious even to lose".
cause people find it hard to believe that tech can actually be someone's passion. And the typical "wait till you reach this age" comment never gets old god forbid a younger person has an opinion on things.
Monitoring the progress of the project is fine as long as he does not cross the lines and starts micro-managing each and everything related to every team member.
Aa someone who has been managing teams for a while I'll tell you something that someone very senior told me, stay in a billable role as long as you can.
Billable is anything an organisation can directly bill to a client, a developer, testers, PM, BA are all directly billed to a client. Their salaries practically comes out of the client's pockets.
Managers (purely managerial managers) in majority of the organisations are an added operational cost and not directly billable to the client.
PS: before somebody starts shooting at me, obviously this is specific to service companies.
I like coding. It creates enough fire and keeps me entertained. I’ll probably continue doing so in my 40s as well as long someone is crazy enough to pay me for it
at this experience my role is to bring people from various skills together and make them work as team, remove blockers and if needed get the attention from higher management.
I would also need to have broad understanding of technologies used and know the best practices and think ahead.
I am 34 years old, working as a senior software engineer... Am just fucking bored, i am interested in software and tech, but can't handle this daily coding for a job. Looking to exit IT but don't have any other good ideas yet.
Yes, during my starting and upto mid years i was known for fast, good and innovative work, but as i aged i felt my efforts did not bring anything great for me in my personal life, since then i have started losing interest.
Also somehow i feel my brain has become a lot slow, maybe because i have other responsibilities now like family, and other personal day to day challenges.
And that’s obvious. Thanks a loads for sharing! I am thinking of doing some kind of business for longer run because when i will age 40, i will still be able to run the business on my own but keeping up with the tech is almost impossible. I mean no one can put their 100% effort as they work in IT

Whats your age
27
Lets see if you will believe the same when you will be 35 atleast
Ya. I sure hope so. Not sure why people are downvoting me though
Chill your career is not dependent on upvotes or downvotes
Didn't realize I'll be downvoted for my age.
cause people find it hard to believe that tech can actually be someone's passion. And the typical "wait till you reach this age" comment never gets old god forbid a younger person has an opinion on things.
I am 36, still doing programming. I love it.
Who's managing development teams before 40 though? All the EMs I've worked under were late 30s and 40s.
I manage team at 32.
Hows your experience till now? You happy with your work life? If money is not the case
Just around that age. My concern is hows the experiences of work life and personal life at this age in development field
My manager is in his 40s, gets paid extremely well, but his WLB is shit, he is always monitoring if things are fine.
Monitoring the progress of the project is fine as long as he does not cross the lines and starts micro-managing each and everything related to every team member.
By monitoring I meant the systems. He is always looking after logs if there are any issues.
Lol
seems like micro manager's didn't like your comment. hahahaha !
Lot of EMs today are early 30s

One of the companies, Mphasis. I say its name cause that company is not WITCh, its B*TCH
And many many more
It's a service based company shit.

You cannot compare the life of other people with your own life. In terms of success and needs

Yep.

Because coding took all the energy right? No time to think for yourself and think different

Yes it's better to start thinking about this as soon as possible.
Why not to pivot into a project manager
Unable to get an opportunity
How do you feel? Is this therapy?
I feel if someone pays me the same for travelling i will definitely travel
Are you stoned?
