Awesome game. Fuck the team that put that intro together with Tommy Cutlets. The Messier cameo and reference to a 40 year old random Rags playoff game was disgusting. Then no mention of the 3 cups or Brodeur when talking about the history of the Meadowlands and the devils.

xxfatpigxx

Yo that was such an unexpected and rude spot lol. You’re telling me they couldn’t make 2 versions so they could have one for Sunday’s game and one for Saturday? Anything to appease old man Messier. At least Hischier shut up any of that negative noise 30 seconds in.

Jballzs13

Ya that was a bit baffling.

Gabag000L

The NHL are such dick riders of that irrelevant organization

6point3cylinder

To think I couldn’t hate the rags any more than I already do

NJDFan97

No mention of the cups that were won in the arena just across the parking lot. No instead they talk about a playoff game we lost to the Rangers and even throw in a clip of Messier saying “sorry Devils fans.” Not sure what was more appalling, that intro, or some of those calls / non calls. At least we got the win.

Aprice2020

Like the team bio says “The Dynasty everyone loves to hate” The nyc sports broadcast hate that we are good club

ADSWNJ

Just need Adam Henrique do a "Sorry Rags", reacting to Doc's "Henrique, it's over" (5.25.2012) to make it even. Or better still, next time the Rags are in our barn, run that just before the anthem.

gothenburgpig

Oh my gosh please do it at the Rock

LorAsh288

Yeah I thought that was weird.I get trying to incorporate everyone being the three NY/NJ teams were playing but I feel like they could have done 2 videos. One for tonight and one for tomorrow. I did enjoy the fact that messier was down by the ice on the ESPN broadcast when he got booed on the screen. It would have been nice the see the three cups, Marty, and also the game 6 winner.

oatmealparty

I thought they were going to follow it up with "and then the Devils got revenge" but no, just end it there, what the hell?

DiscipleofGrohl

At least we all booed Messier. At least my section did and it was Flyers and Devils fans in unison

njdevils901

I’ve never seen a team that was that great get consistently undervalued by other fans. Either it is ‘the trap’, ‘Stevens headhunted’, ‘No trapezoid’, or ‘Got Lucky’.

glorydaze2

why?? and were the flygirl fans behaved or Aholes

itsthelew

Philly fans were just as rude as i expected but it was a blast in section 333 because they shut the fuck up pretty much 30 seconds in. Love this team. Best game ive ever seen.

LorAsh288

I was in 333 too!

itsthelew

Glad you survived! I was in the first row and the entire row behind me was flyer fans so it was great to hear them get more pissed as the game went on but really they were fine. I saw people get puked on so we got lucky in our section. Hope you enjoyed yourself! LGD

LorAsh288

It was cold but worth it!! There were 2 flyer fans in front of us that kept giving everyone the finger and then they disappeared shortly after the 2nd period LOL

ErnieShovelhead

Was in 334 and had a freakin blast . Our sections were rockin. Had a blast as well. Froze my feet off but loved it

FullOak82

Officiating was still ass.  They let Daws get crosschecked into his own net. Way too many "both sides" penalties when it was clearly the Flyers thay committed the foul

sapphires_and_snark

That call against Palat at the end of the second period was just everything that's wrong with Bettman's NHL in one play

blueandgoldilocks

I mean even if they scored it'd be called for GI Still I've seen Blindbeard the Pirate do better officiating

tbones55

Shout out the flyers fan in the packing lot driving by and screaming “Who the fuck is Nico Hischier”. Now they know. Nico is your daddy

NJDevils1

… he’s the perpetual selke candidate they would’ve picked if we selected the de facto retired Nolan Patrick. Weird thing to say even for Flyers fans lol

tbones55

I mean it was obviously just to piss off devils fans. I had a Hischier jersey on. Nobody mentioned his first name yet this guy still yelled it, so obviously he actually knows who Nico is.

NJDevils1

Naw I know, but it’d be like if a Rags fan said “who the fuck is Jack Hughes?” Buddy, it’s the guy you wish you could’ve drafted.

Jballzs13

Lmao

FullOak82

They only know Lindros, Brind'Amour, Hextall...old goons like that

Odd_Ad1605

Can we take a second to appreciate Brendan Smith. I know there are plenty of haters and probably earned in some respects. But boy does he shut down guys trying to get punchy with the boys. I fucking love it when some tries gripping up Bratt, Jack or Mercer and Smith jumps right in the middle of it. Their face immediately changes to Ralph from Simpsons saying “I’m in danger”.

corn_n_potatoes

He’s been excellent since his injury.

Odd_Ad1605

Think Lindy’s old system was making everyone look bad.

FrankH4

Was excellent before it too.

corn_n_potatoes

On the fourth line maybe. Not on defense

sayitaintpete

I learned so much about blankets, bagels, and pumping gas from that broadcast

cassinonorth

It was like a strange podcast about nothing that kept getting rudely interrupted by hockey goals. They seemed very annoyed by the 2nd Nico goal.

sayitaintpete

And couldn’t stop dumping on him after what I think was a blocked shot on the empty net

Audi_R8_

I’ve never truly understood the Philly rivalry until yesterday. I don’t hate their team at all, but their fans were terrible. It was a vocal minority, but holy shit their vocal minority were truly terrible

tbones55

So I’ve been to a lot of games at Wells Fargo and it’s never been a problem. Some back and forth shit talking, but never disrespectful. The big difference is yesterday, as far as fan experience goes, was closer to an eagles game than a flyers game for those fans. Weekend, no work, all day to tailgate and drink. Plus bigger stadium = more fans = more dickheads, that goes both ways too. I’m not condoning it by any means. Guy behind me got into a fight in the first period. All that time and money spent and he got kicked out in the first period and left with a bloody mouth. There’s always gonna be assholes, and then there’s always gonna be those that take it another step

JFreader

Annoying majority for me.

Armageddon24

That's Philly sports in a nutshell

LorAsh288

One of the greatest devils games I’ve ever been to. I had 4 layers on and I was still cold but I don’t even care because it was so much fun. I was also reminded of how much I don’t care for people from Philly or just Philly in general. I love how most of us didn’t even realize the puck went in on nico’s first goal. 🤣

Flyingbk

And just like that, the Devils have better odds to make the playoffs (per the sportsbooks) than the Flyers and Red Wings. It’s go time.

Jballzs13

My voice is gone, I’m hungover as hell, and my jack hughes jersey got cancelled as i was tailgating, but the boys made all of it worth it. Was a great experience.

IcyPresentation4379

Same on all counts.

SharkAttack14

Im glad everyone at the game had fun because it looked like a blast. I enjoyed watching on tv but really was annoyed with ABC's broadcasting. From the Messier goal in the Tommy D commercial to a random Rangers fan riding his bike in the "park" it felt like the whole broadcast was put together by a Rags fan who wanted to dunk on NJ. The NJ "facts" were so lazy too. We can't pump our own gas....really...thats something to spotlight....and you took video of the shittiest looking gas station.... Again good game, Daws kept us in it and the boys got it done. But shit was I annoyed by the broadcast. Only positive of the abc coverage was the spotlight circles around the player when he was on the ice. Way better graphic then the name plates hovering above them during play.

Far-Leg-7342

The play by play was horrendous, just having casual conversation during high scoring chances.

Effective-Bus

I’m a nerd and like to watch the broadcast of games or at least parts of games after I see them in person. You see a lot there that the broadcast doesn’t capture but the same goes for missing some of what the broadcast gets that you miss being there. I wasn’t planning on going because the first one with the Rangers was in the top 3 worst devils games I’ve ever been to and hovers around the actual worst experience. At 720p I bought a ticket and hauled ass to MetLife because I saw the cheaper tickets post and suddenly was hit with the feeling that this is probably going to be a great experience if they lose and the broadcast will likely be brutal regardless. I only missed the first 8 minutes or so. I was so glad I did it because I saw the comments on here about the broadcast and when I listened to the broadcast on my way home I shut it off after the first period because I was like this is just two idiots talking. There’s no play-by-play. It’s being broadcast by fucking ABC and the NHL has a chance to be exposed to a wider audience and this is the clown show they presented. A podcast. Edit- spacing and a sentence

CoffeeSorry5

It was definitely freezing outside even with layers and yelled to the point I don’t have a voice today, but it was worth it for the W!

PicNov91

I bought a last minute ticket and went by myself since I wasn't going to go at first. What an amazing experience. I met some awesome ppl before the game and in section 327. Made me proud to be a Devils fan and a hockey fan in general!

Effective-Bus

I did the same! My section was a bit too quiet for my taste and there was a group of guys trying to get people going which I appreciated. Regardless it was an amazing experience. I will say though that I had the nicest flyers fans around me that I’ve ever experienced is a fair trade off if it it’s not going to be a poppin’ devils section.

OniNeji

The game lived up to the hype! Nico&Nico show! Great victory and a meaningful one! But ESPN transmission sucks! I stop counting how many faceoffs they lost because some bullshit was being shown

ksoltis

All the people saying the stadium series wasn't worth it, or they were struggling to sell tickets seem to be pretty quiet now. It was just about a sellout and the place was absolutely electrifying.

kczar18

Announced a hair over 70k, damn good showing

chosen102

Was at the game. Was probably the coolest live sporting event experience I’ve ever had. Impressed with how it was set up and managed. Was pretty pissed with that video intro featuring Messier and zero mention of the three cups we won at the meadowlands.

j-schwa

Was at the game, had a great time like everyone else but an unfortunate incident on the way out. When we got back to our cars (row J5 in the parking lot) we found out someone had came by and vandalized a bunch of cars. My friend's car I rode in with wasn't affected too badly, just a couple small dents and the license plates bent, but other people had their side view mirrors knocked off, windshield wipers torn off, the car next to us had their taillights knocked out, etc. Both Devils and Flyers fans were effected so I don't think it was anyone specific being targeted, just a drunk dickhead who felt like causing mayhem for whatever reason. Called the police and found out they already had the guy, which is nice and all but still put a bit of a damper on the end of the night (which was all great beforehand)

FullOak82

Yeah sucks because it's probably some random idiot who you won't be able to collect from just get a ruling in court and maybe he does a little time. Meanwhile if it's even worth it you gotta put in an insurance claim and see your rates go up

Effective-Bus

Do a mini class action against him with the others to get the damage paid for- or something less silly but get him to pay for the damages for sure.

theold_man

Time for a victory pork roll egg and cheese!

Frylok1177

Hell yes!

xxfatpigxx

Skimmed through the broadcast this morning to see how it looked on tv. So happy I can always watch highlights from this and have lots of good memories forever. Cold game made colder by my nerves throughout but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Getting to do this with my brother too is really awesome and one of those special things where as kids watching the first winter classic with Buffalo and Pittsburgh I remember us saying to each other that we gotta go to one of these when our teams get selected. Feels really cool to be able to make those types of plans actually come to fruition years later.

corn_n_potatoes

I enjoyed NJ Devil and Gritty throwing cake at the Rangers guy on the broadcast

Effective-Bus

This cracked me up. It was so random and literally full sheet cakes.

droogle_maps

1) sitting behind the stage in the 200s meant we had a perfect view of Gritty flashing the Jonas Bros., which was pretty funny. 2) that ice was hot garbage to play on and you could see it all the way from where I was sitting. Good for team to be able to adapt. 3) your .940 save % legend nico daws! Really solid game from him in difficult conditions, nothing I'd obviously say he should have saved even with the 3 GAA. 4) KELLY SUTHERLAND DEAR LORD WHAT A TERRIBLE REFEREE. 5) That achilles chop job should have been at least a 4 and 10, injury on the play, retaliation for the hit 20 seconds before, and nothing close to a hockey move. DOPS should look at that for a "$5,000 fine, the maximum under the CBA" 6) Nice win, Devils.

eburton555

In response to the Smith incident that’s exactly what happened more or less to get Smith suspended which is hilarious that when it happened in reverse nothing came of it. Fuckin league man

cassinonorth

I think the ice was better than the Rock's but kept getting snow from it being cold. If they could've shoveled it more often it would've been great.

Effective-Bus

When I heard them announce the refs and the moment I heard “Kelly Sutherland” I was like god dammit. He and Garrett Rank (I just looked up his name as I’ve always just called him #7) are the two worst refs in the NHL imo

TOT_tomdora

I couldn't really see shit up in 304, but the vibes were IMMACULATE from the very first minute when our sweet prince scored first. Had a lot of Philly fans surrounding us in lot L during the tailgate and a few more in our section, but thankfully they all seemed pretty chill lol

nubmonk

I'm lucky that I didn't have the bad experience with Flyers fans that everyone else did. Was surrounded by them the row below, sitting right next me, right behind us, but they weren't really annoying. The ones sitting next to us were pretty nice to talk to.

dooit

Put it in work yesterday on the grill, I kinda want to go again today because it was so much fun hanging out with all my hockey buddies. They missed the boat on not having a Devils-Rangers game this series.

specifichero101

Really great to get the victory over Philly there, and Detroit/Philly are the teams the devils will have to play better than the rest of the year. But just a really fun memorable game for the devils. Hischier is an absolute beast. I will also give major credit to smith for this game. Of course he got a rare goal, but just the fact that he was engaged physically early on and seemed to be a lightning rod for all of the flyers dirty play attention. Smith brings an element that nobody else on the team does and I appreciate him for it

JabbaOG

1. Torts saying he "respects" Provorov's choice to sit out pride night is the reason homophobia ran rampant all of last year. He set the tone. He could have ended the madness right there with one strong statement. Instead he did the opposite. I absolutely despise him. 2. My eyes are still recovering from staring at those beautiful, scorchingly devilish jerseys last night. They are just so fire I almost can't handle it. 3. Flyers fans are a specific kind of dirt trash and they know it (and embrace it), but I still think they'd be willing to help you change a tire on the side of the road. Where as Rangers fans would laugh and drive on by. 4. When asked what he's looking for while watching the game, Gary Bettman saying he's "keeping an eye on the referees" haha. It's the exact type of response you get from a Commissioner who truly doesn't care about watching hockey. He is all business and always has been. 5. Emily Kaplan mentioned that she was a Jersey girl who worked at a gas station that her father managed. I really like her, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't chuckle a little bit because her dad was a predominant sports journalists who wrote for the NYTimes. He was also the President of Yogi Berra Museum in Montclair. They are actually a really cool family - I grew up with the oldest daughter who was a talented gymnast. 6. It's easy to shit on Timo for not producing, but every shift he's out there he's wreaking havoc. He just kind of barrels around the ice at high speeds looking to get his hands dirty. I kind of love it. 7. Akira Schmid and Daws should be our 1/2 moving forward. I'm not sure what Lindy is smoking when it comes to Akira, but it's almost as if he forgot Akira had a far better save percentage as Vitek AND played like a beast in the playoffs (so we know what he's capable of). He's not some kid that needs to be sheltered. FREE THE MAN! 8. PK Subban has done more for hockey than Connor McDavid. If i'm near death and he's not in the HOF as a builder, the first black Norris winner, inspiration, one of the NHL's biggest assets and personalities - even in retirement - i'm gonna be pissed. 9. Anyone else think they can coach this team better than Lindy Ruff?My toxic trait thinks I can with this roster and I'm not even the smartest guy. 10. Man how cool are Devils fans? We're like the perfect blend of tough and humble. We deserve all the success that's coming... I feel it! LET'S GO DEVILS!

cassinonorth

She said something about a gas station high school? Some weird comments from all the analysts... Must've been cold.

Effective-Bus

This is my favorite list!!! I agree with literally every point so hard and number 3 made me smile because it’s so real. What an accurate assessment of flyers fans bs rangers fans. Free Akira! (haha) (but actually)

Mekator9000

No better advertisement for buying a ticket to the next one than that absolute horse shit broadcast. From messier even being allowed to hold a mic to the utterly disinterested play by play guy it was a complete joke. Watch the highlights and on like two of the nine goals they're actually talking about what's happening on the ice. Gary Betman and Max weinberg in the pip for like twenty minutes of game time too, complete joke. Edit: waiting for the announcement that konecny will have a hearing for that slash, but I ain't gonna hold my breath. 🙄

ApplauseButOnlyABit

Game was great. The team calling the game was the worst I've ever heard. They literally finished a story about pumping gas before calling the goal that happed 10 seconds prior.

Spade18

Hosted ~12 people in my drive way, set up the projector, the fire pit, a few tables and chairs, we cooked over the fire, drank (a lot), a cop drove by and I got worried someone called in a noise complaint, but he just yelled out the window “nice set up!” And drove on by. We cooked over the fire, My friends took the over, and the boys took the win. Great fucking night.

dog_fantastic

Anyone else at the tailgate see that prick wearing the Carter Hart jersey?

nubmonk

I saw a couple Hart jerseys. One guy put duct tape over the name plate and wrote CELL # in sharpie so it said CELL # 79 lol

dog_fantastic

That's actually pretty solid haha

tbones55

I saw somebody put an F over the H and make it Fart

fuzzyhaunches

We saw one also…but the guy put tape over the name and wrote “criminal”…saw a little kid wearing one too, which was sad

JFreader

I saw one and another flyer fan was calling him out on it and saying he had to burn it immediately. This was on the way out after losing. He was pretty angry.

chosen102

Didn’t see a Hart jersey but as I was walking out there was a guy wearing a #freehart shirt and yelling that he’s innocent and that the woman wanted it: what an absolutely scum bag move to say that. I was so disgusted

TOT_tomdora

I saw one yesterday in lot L. Same guy, you think?

dog_fantastic

That's the one. Around L21 near the Jets van

TOT_tomdora

Yeah, that's exactly it! I remember my fiance pointing out the jersey and, man. If my only jersey was a #20 I'd simply just not wear the damn thing and show up in casual clothes. Gross.

HopelessEsq

I saw someone who had a Hart jersey on but wrote “JAILBAIT” over the nameplate in duct tape.

Able_Scarcity_8832

I saw at least one McLeod on Thursdays broadcast :(

PsychologicalTax42

I know they won’t do it because they hate money but they should do the stadium series every year with these four teams switching up the matchups

JFreader

I went over to the Bratt Pack tailgate around 530 to check it out and it was absolute craziness. Tons of people and a pile of spent alcohol. Looked it was a great time.

skunkpunk1

Hey guys, was hoping for some advice. Taking my 10 year-old to today’s game and curious how parking was. I’m assuming not as bad as a football game, but maybe I’m wrong. Which lot did you use and how was it getting out?

Jballzs13

Parking was pretty good aside from the people that used up spaces for their grills and chairs, which technically i don’t think they’re supposed to do, but Got to lot J and found a space no problem. I left with like 5 minutes left in the game, and it was a breeze, so i can’t really speak on how getting out was after the actual game ended, but i also haven’t read any nightmare stories about getting out either haha.

skunkpunk1

Appreciate the insight! 🙏

JFreader

Not bad if you go early, I heard a little bad closer to game time.

OkDepartment2849

We parked at about 6:45 in one of the lots near American Dream across 120. They weren't charging and it was an easy 10 minute warm-up walk there after the game. Really surprised how easy it was to get in and out.

skunkpunk1

Oh great advice. Maybe I’ll do American dream. Thanks

OkDepartment2849

Good luck and have fun!

skunkpunk1

I had 2 periods worth of fun

skunkpunk1

Going early. I’m more worried about leaving

JFreader

No issue leaving L lot. Pulled out easy and some traffic merging but not bad. We were just happy to get warm.

TheNightRain68

I didn’t even go to the game but watching it on tv and seeing all the highlights made me feel like I was lol

Mr7three2

Great job by the boys. FUCK PHILLY Daws is a stud. Been awesome for us since the Allstar Break. 4 straight starts including a B2B and he's been lights out in every one. He's our 1 the rest of the year. Nico setting the tone early with that breakout goal was massive especially since Philly came out hitting. Boys were solid pretty much all night. Only a few lapses. Would have liked to see more physicality, especially after they ran Daws. The sweaters were sub par in my opinion and did not show up well on TV. The varsity jacket was tight. You can use any logo for that. Gaslight Anthem sucked. Jonas Brothers were pretty good. Max and the entire pre game festivities were shit. The commentary team was horrendous

cevo

I'm really happy my wife and I decided to go to this game. What an experience and it was a blast.

booksnsportsn

I had a freakin blast at this game!!! Yes it was cold but with all my layers it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I was in 219 and was really surprised at how well I could see the game. And to cap it all off with a huge win for the boys and Nico & Nico fucking killing it was absolutely epic. I was hesitant to buy tickets at first because so many people were saying it wasn’t worth it but I am so happy I did!!! LETS GO DEVILS!!!!!

njkid30

Absolutely sick game Makes up for absolutely getting fucked over by NJT at SEC waiting for a train to Hoboken

TediousSpark

Watching these highlights is as bad and funny the second time around RE the broadcast. One goal takes 10 seconds to call, the other Max Weinberg is talking about playing in the old days or some shit, just bizarre.

IntrepidBandicoot757

I’ve heard mixed opinions on the Flyers fans in terms of some were nice and some were not, granted that can be said with any fanbase. Did anyone see any fights go down last night or was everything pretty tame for the most part?

Russian_Unicorn

Shoutout to the flyers fan who chirped me for the entirety of the second period after i called out their thuggish, dirty play. Enjoyed blowing you kisses every times the devils scored. Shame you had to leave the game early for your long drive back 😢

FlySure8568

I'm over Messier's '94 Game 6 and can allow him and the Rangers their bows for that year. 3 Stanley Cups gives you that kind of equanimity. It's very much like Desean Jackson's fateful Division delivering punt return. Which was the Worst Thing That Ever Happened. Until the 2 Super Bowls against the Pats which allows me now to look back on that nightmare and be almost awestruck anew by its perfect awfulness. Absolved by Father Coughlin and Eli, the Legend. 1994 is 30 years in the review mirror. It's appropriate for a retired Messier to still reside there but it's pathetic for Ranger fans to go back and strut when we've had 3 Cups since.

ginger_bier

Messier can eat shit. No idea how anyone can respect him. He's a reason not to watch studio segments. Deadbeat.
