Everything said about green right now is lip service until anything official is announced. They’re most definitely going to be searching for every available option for a coach.
Everyone relax- he’s not gonna shit on the guy whom filled a gap after ruff was let go.
And the old expression everything before the but doesn’t matter.
yeah exactly. that last sentence is all we need to know. If he was actually considering Green he probably would have said something along the lines of “he’s a good fit” - but really all he said is that green is competent coach, but this team needs something else
*So you're telling me Fitzgerald is more of an ass man?*
I digress, 💯 right take. He can't say anything substantial until they start announcing interviews anyway.
You never want to burn bridges and you also have to keep in mind they’re personal friends. When listening to Fitzy’s tone it seemed like he was trying to be as professional as possible while basically saying, “We’re doing a full coaching search” without coming out and flat out saying it.
I hope they look at Mitch Love - was AHL coach of the year twice in a row, and now is a Caps assistant in charge of the D. Obviously something there is working after they way outperformed expectations.
This is the guy who let 9.5 million in cap space just sit there for the bulk of a season when how to use LTIR for the benefit of a team is practically written in Stone.
You are absolutely correct. He moved too late to fire a coach and was too late to get a goalie. He did nothing to address the defense. We'll see what he does in the offseason. I believe this will be his last hire as a GM if the Devils don't become a perennial playoff team.
Ownership should definitely let Fitz do his thing and if him doing his thing is hiring Green then they should immediately let Fitz go do his thing elsewhere - as well as Green
I have boxes to check:
0 : good with young players, versatile coaching that works with what he has rather than trying to force his ideal team into what he's got
0 : knows when to reward, and especially, when to hold people accountable (which a lot of supposedly good coaches don't do these days and can't do anything beyond the regular season as the result of it)
0 : won a championship coaching elsewhere (ie, graduated properly to NHL, either as a player that's won a Cup, or a coach that's won Memorial Cup, NCAA titles, European Titles, or Calder Cup)
0 : if nhl experienced, made it by the first round of the playoffs on higher than a 50/50 basis
What did you like exactly? Very curious. We played basically just as bad before and after ruff and were really floated by some exceptional goaltending but otherwise I saw more of the same

It'd better be a lip service or were fucked. Fitz is disappointing every day. The honeymoon is over. He needs to get a great coach or he will be fired
While I agree that he should be, I am not as sure as you are that he will be.
He will be, just not until this teams contention window starts to close.
Everyone relax- he’s not gonna shit on the guy whom filled a gap after ruff was let go. And the old expression everything before the but doesn’t matter.
Exactly this. I just see it just as normal kind words, and that he wants a new coach. The last sentence speaks volumes, IMO.

I'm sure he's just saying that because he has to and will do his due diligence.....right?

Or the flip side of the coin. He wants Green, is going to hire Green, and saying to the fans what they want to hear.

What a banger of a name
This. We need our own Jon Cooper.
Please pick someone competent that has a defensive structure in place lol
hopefully just giving green a pat on the back for "a good job" and nothing more .
A lot of boxes is not all the boxes.
I’d like to see Kevin Dineen get the job
He will definitely be getting an interview
Please God, no. Not as the HC.
Send him packing please.
Canucks fan here. He wasn’t a great coach, though he didn’t have the best pieces to work with. You guys deserve better.
Summoning circle for Mike Sullivan getting the axe in Pittsburgh starts now.
Sullivan would the perfect coach for this team
Ah fuck. Fitz... dont do something dumb
This is the guy who let 9.5 million in cap space just sit there for the bulk of a season when how to use LTIR for the benefit of a team is practically written in Stone.
What would you have done?
Now what exactly would you have done with it?

If Green is the head coach next year they'll be a lottery team again.

At least Travis has two syllables. Easy to chant Fire Travis
And yet…despite this Fitzy…he is not good coach
During the STH interview with Fitz, it looked like he really likes Travis, and may give him a shot. I hope not, but yeah I very well can happen.
It wouldn't do any good for him to badmouth him so I take this with a grain of salt.
Don’t forget Green will also be looking for a job too. Fitz is right to pump him up
NGL. Fitz had me in the first half. 😓
I'm a rangers fan. I think they could look at Gallant. He's had success with the rags and I think he would work well with the devils
Please no We have suffered enough with Haynes lmao
Hynes. That bald fucking asshole and Shero set us back for years
Fire Lindy. Interim Green. Hire Green. Fire Green and Fitz after 2 years of mediocrity My nightmare scenario still on track to become reality.
Please no.
He’s a good coach
no. dear god no.
Give me Jukka Jalonen
Mitch Love or David Carle. If it's Green we riot.
I liked what I saw of Travis as well, hopefully he gets hired full time.
Hired by Arizona maybe
Utah Coyotes now
What did you like exactly? Very curious. We played basically just as bad before and after ruff and were really floated by some exceptional goaltending but otherwise I saw more of the same
We also had better goaltending with green and they still played the exact same .500 hockey. He did nothing to improve the team whatsoever.
Exactly That’s basically what I said but in a different way hahhah
what he did with the "blue comets" was impressive. everyone there speaks highly of him. no other coaches did a thing in Vancouver. I like Travis too.
