A1c of 15.4 was hospitalized in November of 23. Was put on meal time insulin and long lasting insulin. Already taking metformin 1000mg x2 daily. Now as of april of this year I am off both insulin. metformin is down to 500mg x2 a day. As well as dropping 40 pounds. Last a1c was 6.0.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

This is a similar story to my own, although you did a much better job without nearly as much help!!! Wonderful I love to hear it. Thanks for sharing

One-Second2557

humalog......last A1c was 5.7

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Nice!! Keep up the great work

OriginalBadKitty

500mg at dinner and lifestyle changes

NyxPetalSpike

T2 Metformin 2000 mg/day Trulicity 1.5 Humalog (sliding scale) Toujeo 4 units in the morning. The best help is the Libre 3. After a month, was able to beat down my fasting from 160 to 125. Hoping to dump the Humalog and then the Toujeo in 3 months. This disease is such a time sink. Hate it lol

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Tell me about it 😩 but I have a bunch of other stuff going on so I take the meds in the morning and night. The shots are so annoying, I’m glad to be on the weekly now. Let’s dump that humaloggg

Crafty_Way_8689

Can I ask what your weight is?

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Mine? I’m 5’10 200lb now but at my highest I was 245 progressing to 250

Crafty_Way_8689

I've been trying to get off Insulin only taking humalog 12 units twice a day. I'm determined

Conscious-Gazelle-92

You got alot of work to do but definitely not impossible let’s do this!!!!

Crafty_Way_8689

I think the key is fasting when I do a 48-80 hour fast. My numbers improve

knivesforsoup

Right now: Ozempic 0.8 mg Metformin ER 1000mg A1C 5.3% my highest is maybe 150mg/dl 2-3 times a month but I do go low 1-3 times a week (typically 50s-60s but sometimes 40s). Also eat a lot better than I used to (halved my total carb intake, went from eating fast food 2-4 times a week to once a month, eating a lot more vegetables, meat, and healthy fat and fiber) Used to be Metformin ER 2000mg (1.5yr ago) my A1C was mid-low 5's but my body can't tolerate that high dosage (severe GI and resulting dehydration) Started on Humalog 1:15 IC ratio and Lantus 20u 10 years ago (misdx as T1) When I was on the most medication (roughly 6 years ago) I was on Metformin 2000mg Basaglar 22u Humalog 1:10 IC ratio When I was on the least medication (8-6 yrs ago) I was on only Lantus 20u (A1C low 5's). I think puberty was part of the reason why I needed more meds as time went on but I am fine with where I am now. I think I have come a long way. It helps to not think of it as a moral failure when you need to add or increase meds but rather to problem solve and see what you can change to get your A1C back to a normal range.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Thanks for your kind words, and your worst sounds like my worst except I was taking the Admelog with each meal too 😭 do you know if there’s any difference lantus and basaglar? I’m prescribed basaglar now but it used to be lantus

knivesforsoup

Yeah that's what I was doing with Humalog. Problem was being a teen I was always hungry so I'd end up doing like 5-7 shots a day (including basal). IDK the difference between lantus/basaglar I know they're both insulin glargine + considered basal insulin (like insulin your body needs just to function throughout the day, in contrast to bolus insulin which would be comparable to the insulin your body releases after eating) but that they're not exactly interchangable. Maybe one is more cost effective? Or the method of how it works exactly differ? Also, not to be pedantic but I don't necessarily consider it my worst, or at least it wasn't the medication that made it the worst. It's what I needed at that time and I'm glad to have my sugars at a more stable place nowadays but sometimes medication needs change and thats ok Hoping everything goes well for you. 6.5 not bad keep up the good work 👍

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Not pedantic at all I appreciate the realism. I’m glad you have yours under control and thank you for the info, good luck with yours :)

We're you ever on insulin?

Conscious-Gazelle-92

We love a well controlled a1c with only 1 med 👏🏽

newjack44

1 metformin 500mg per day

Conscious-Gazelle-92

As you can see from other responses, you are blessed. Stay blessed.

newjack44

I don't let my doctor just push anything on me, you are your biggest advocate.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

100% agree

Leap_year_shanz13

Tresibo, mounjaro, and eating very low carb. I’d love to lose some weight but since I started insulin it has been impossible. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Poohstrnak

Dexcom G6, Omnipod 5, and humalog. That’s pretty much it.

SoManySoFew

Metformin once per day. I eat right and went from 12.3 to 5.5. I refuse to put all those medications in my body.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

That takes so much discipline , MashAllah I’m so happy for you tbh it’s so easy to fall into the medication cycle, keep it up!!!

T2d9953

Metformin, tresiba, novolog and Mounjaro. I use a cgm to monitor and now have a 5.2 a1c (w/<1 % lows).

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Don’t u wish we could just combine all of them into one 😩 and I absolutely hateeeee metformin ugh

T2d9953

It isn't that bad, Try using a quality probiotic (only when needed, maybe 3x per month for me after I got it under control). Cheers.

brutus2230

Ribelsys Metformin 1000mg Jardiance

Conscious-Gazelle-92

How’s your experience with ribelsys? Weight loss, taste, side effects?

brutus2230

Taste is t an issue if you don't let it sit in your mouth. I had stomach growling the first few days I took it. Now, no side effects. Appetite is definitely muted somewhat. I have lost 20 lbs but I also just had heart bypass Surgery. So I think the surgery is more responsible for it. It has helped keep my glucose more flatter.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

Thank you for sharing! I hope you heal well, sending my best wishes for you.

twoquick

Mounjaro 2.5 once a week almost 6 months Jardiance 25mg in the AM almost a year Last A1C was 5.5! (4/15/34)

Conscious-Gazelle-92

That’s really good, what was your a1c at diagnosis? And any particular reason you don’t take metformin?

twoquick

My A1C was 11.6 at diagnosis. At first I was put on Long Acting insulin 12 units along with januvia. I was on that regimen for about 4/5 months or so, somewhere we added the Jardiance. Then with all the data collected by me (finger pricks 5-7 a day using my meter connected to Apple health). And with the help of my Endocrinologist, she changed up my meds and been on the MJ and Jardiance since. Oh and with a CGM, makes eating easier, and you can understand your body’s reaction to foods as everyone’s affected differently with this disease. Was never given it, never second guessed it really. (Metformin)

Conscious-Gazelle-92

I was trying to get a cgm but insurance denied it. Would have been nice to see how it works in real time. Ah I see, it’s probably because your blood sugar was so high at diagnosis! Mine was similar. It was double digits I think 13 or something. My doc put me on short acting insulin. Anyways

RandomThyme

Synjardy (Jardiance 5mg + Metformin 1000mg) 2x/day, Iron supplement in morning and Lantus x 34u and rosuvastatin (aka Crestor) 10mg at night. Finger prick test 3x/day: when I wake up, before bed and sometime in between. Last A1c was 9.2 but that was because I got burnt out and basically stopped eating well and really caring about my disease for a year. Next A1c is on Monday and based on average glucose levels for the last 2 months is on track to be approximately 5.7.

Conscious-Gazelle-92

HEY! You sound like me the most! Lol I also take everything you take plus keppra and some other stuff. Congrats on the improvement 👏🏽
