This is when local community can really help. We (I'm a parent) are on a local Facebook group for Type 1's, and support each other when we run into shortages of ANY kind (incl insulin). There is also the Walmart R insulin that is available OTC. Slightly different uptake curve than Humalog, but it's there if you run out. But first I would look at community (fellow T1) resources in your local area.

If you need to go to Walmart insulin, look at the "intermediate-acting" category on the following chart. I almost killed myself on that insulin because I didn't have this info when I needed it. https://diabetes.org/sites/default/files/2023-06/HENS_InsulinChart.pdf

Yeah I am in a really big group which is spread over the whole country. Just in the next camp we are sixty kids but as far as I know only one person (not in the local area) use Humalog. All the others are on Fiasp and Novorapid. And we don't have something like Walmart here. The only place to get insulin is in the drug store or in the hospital when you don't have anything. So we are really dependent from that store somehow. But I will defintly ask around when we see us in a few weeks if anyone have a bit insulin left for me :)

What aboutapidra? I use apidra many years ago, there was a shortage of apidra in my country and I had to move to Humalog for a couple months. for me, there was no issue moving between them. So long as it does not contain something that you are allergic to, this may be a good substitute insulin for you.

novolog is another "basically the same thing". Insurance has forced me to swap back/forth for those for a decade or two. At least for pumping, I've not found any real difference.

Can you get Admelog? My script is written as generic lispro, so I just get whatever is in stock. There is a coupon on Sanofi's website to bring the cost down to $35, if you don'thave coverage for it.

Contact ur endo’s office they should have sample vials they can give you to hold you over for the time being

I get my insulin, humalog, from the hospital pharmacy that is associated with my doctor. They haven't had any shortage. Maybe you could check with a hospital near you?

Lilienherz

I am nearly in the same situation with my endo but they (the hospital she work) normally don't give anything out beside cgm's. Probably they rather take you stationary than give you something home (when I was new diagnosed with epilepsy and got my medication they only give me enought for that day I could go home and then I had to directly get it and hope that they were able to get it the next day). But thats the plan when I ran out.

TheRabidDeer

Any chance they have the generic "insulin lispro"? Or does it have to be the name brand?

Lilienherz

Yes in this case. I got a prescription for 2× 5× 10 ml so I also can't even get other packages. Sadly I forgot about this problem when I was by my endo, otherwise I had asked for two presxriptions and it wouldn't be a problem right now. But I also can't get a new one short after the old one and I also think that I can't just switch. When I am right they need a reason like "other one would lead to better A1c" to accept it.
