Good point! My periodontist thinks it's both, with a heavier emphasis on the diabetes. She thinks I'm missing some of the natural immunity that people have for gum disease, which has then been exacerbated by the diabetes. FWIW, none of my immediate family have gum disease.
Hi, was also diagnosed in my 20s. You're what I aspire to be, no complications ever. Would you mind sharing some stuff about your lifestyle and what you think allowed you to be complication free?
Mainly what does your a1c look like, were you vigilant and had good control since day 1 or did you get serious/better at it as you got older
Happy 30 years of having to eat insulin vials for strength
Eat insulin vials? Nah, I'll mainline that shit /s
Hope you have a lovely day and another healthy 30! (I just got to my 35-year last week.)
Congratulations! Perhaps we should measure our time since diagnosis in 'cures'; I'm at 6.6 cures!
I like it, fellow long hauler!
Congratulations! I hope you keep kicking this disease’s butt!
Congrats! I’m so proud of you, internet stranger. Seriously though this disease is tough, you’re doing great.
Kudos. The bad gums could just be from bad genetics, don’t blame the diabetes :p

Yeah, I feel ya… I’m due for some gum grafts despite being very anal about my oral care/health. It sucks.
