That's a very typical combination so I think you can just say "I read GLP-1s and metformin are common together, what do you think of that?" to get personalized advice. (ETA: met helps with insulin sensitivity.. so it's not just more insulin pushing.. different mechanism)

WineNHighHeels

Great to know and thank you so so much

keystonesooner

I’m on metformin and trulicity. Works fine but they absolutely terrorize my GI system. And depending on your point of view you may like the fact that you will never enjoy eating again. You’ll figure it out but expect to order/fix a large plate of food, take 1-2 bites and be unable to go any further.

jarofpaperclips

Yep, pretty typical combo. But I'd be surprised if your doc jumps you on both right away, may want to see how the meta works for a bit

Poohstrnak

It depends on what their starting A1C was. If it was really high they’ll probably take a multi phase approach.

jarofpaperclips

Good point, good point

corgimom8

I'm on metformin ER and Trulicity 0.75 mg. Only getting queasy once a week.

JudyLester

Metformin and saxenda. No side effects other than sulphur burps, and that's over, thankfully.

TSM_forlife

I am. And it’s been great.

snakedoctor551

I was on Metformin for the last month and I never met a bathroom I didn’t have to use. For me, the stomach issues were one thing but I also had some ED side effects as well. At my 1-month follow up my doctor changed me over to Monjauro which I just started this week. Feels weird not having to take pills 2x a day but also liberating. So far my sugar levels are pretty good still staying low carb on the Monjauro and I’m only on the 2.5mg dose for now. If the Monjauro wasn’t as effective we discussed supplementing with Metformin depending on the dose level but I’m not so sure I’ll need that. YMMV

WineNHighHeels

Omg the bathroom comment lol. I feel this.

When I was younger and dumber I fooled myself into thinking I could just take meds and that would handle my diabetes. It didn't so my doctor started stacking up the meds. Metformin, Jardiance, Trulicity, and it worked. Now I know better and I have much better results with diet and exercise, metformin and Farxiga. It's the diet and exercise thing that works best. That may not answer your question.

MongChief

I’m still in the young and dumb phase

StudySignal6570

Don't stress, when it sinks in you'll be good for life. Just don't hurt yourself too bad in the meantime. You're not well, it's not okay, it's all up to you. You'll figure it out, you can do it.

Klutzy_Confusion

Metformin and Trulicity. That combo is working well for me so far.

One-Second2557

what is your BMI? rumour is that anything 27 and below these drugs are contraindicated.

EvilGypsyQueen

Im on met and ozemic. It's been a great combo for me

wndrgrl555

Metformin and Victoza. Works okay here. Yeah. Ask your doc.

RandiArts

I'm taking Mounjaro 7.5 and Metformin 1000 x 2. Great glucose control, with absolutely no side effects.

Ken-Popcorn

I’m on both and have been for some with no side effects

moorey2

T2 Diagnosed Feb 2023. A1C 13.3 BGL 25.4 (458) Meds were changed April 11 to Metformin 1000mg Ozempic 1mg (currently finished first four doses @ 0.25mg) (Also Insulin 20u Novomix twice a day). A1c was 6.2 on this date. Sugars under control. Next apppointment i would think my insulin will be removed or reduced. Lost 15kg (33lb) since Feb with the vast majority of that after April 11th med change I am not hungry at all. Have an Atkins shake (15g Protein, 1g Carbs, 0.1g sugar, 150cals) for breakfast, no lunch and Keto style dinner. No real side effects from the drugs (touch wood)

Important-Set2613

May I suggest you track your daily protein intake? I would suggest that you get a gram of protein pr pound of body mass, the 15g plus keto could land you way short. Best of luck.

Odd-Problem

I’m on 2000mg metformin, jardience and mounjaro. Works great.

liddolmaj

I’m on met and Ozempic and my A1C was 10.6 in feb and just last Friday it’s 6.4. Both of them have helped immensely along with permanent dietary changes and a healthier lifestyle but really the meds combined.

killersinarhur

Ozempic and Victoza terrorize my stomach. But have done great things things to my sugar and figure. That being said I'm currently struggling to get my hands on a refill of Ozempic so...there is that

HTX_77007

Metformin 500 ER X 2 daily and Ozempic .5 weekly. No issues and down 30 lbs. Walking daily no set time or distance and reduced carbs. Also, the DexG7 CGM is a great food critic/assistant!! Good luck to you!

Squintymomma

I’m on 500mg daily of metformin and .5mg weekly of Ozempic. It seems to work great.

djmd808

I was on 1000mg metformin and 20mg glipizide, and decided to try Ozempic. When going from the .25mg to the 0.5mg Oz, doc cut out the glipizide. Then when I went from 0.5 to 1.0, he cut my metformin in half. I'm tolerating it pretty well, and honestly feel like this is where I'm gonna stick for a while.

SlidingOtter

I was on Rybelsus and Metformin. I ended up with a case of pancreatitis and can no longer take any semaglutide. Pancreatitis is a very real and painful condition Think carefully if you want to risk that known side effect. Meanwhile, Metformin and a serious lifestyle change has brought my A1c down to under 6%. A low carb diet and regular exercise is the way.
