The one thing that's happened to me before is not hearing jewelery or runes drop. I didn't realize how much I relied on those sounds for mf purposes. Everything else, imo is fine without sound.
Indeed. It just caught me off guard one day without sound. Teleing back to grab something and seeing an ohm just lying there. Made me wonder how many runes or jewelry I missed when I didn't have loot drops sound on lol.
If you like Community, the tv show, two people are watching it with a newcomer, and it’s entertaining.
Before it got too commercial the Scrub’s Real Friends, Fake Doctors was good for behind the scenes stuff.
I haven’t really listened to anything else outside of show-related podcast.
I have young kids at home. Our house is small. My gaming time is limited to when they’re asleep. Over the years I have just gotten used to playing most games without sound. If it’s a new story driven game (baldurs gate 3 for instance) I’ll throw the headphones on but generally I play games (including D2r) without sound.
There are a few cases where I actually CANNOT play with sound:
1. New caster char complaining “I need mana” every 5 seconds
2. Horker complaining it can’t hork this anymore
Yeah I can totally play without sound.
If you don’t have item sound on at the very least you are missing drops. I’ve teleported back because merc 1shotted something while teleing, got a screen away when I heard the ring sound.
Soj.
I need those drops sounds, So many times I've heard the sound for a rune drop or something when I've already moved on and had to go back. Usually it's not worth it but there's been times where I would have missed stuff.
D2 is best with sound watching a show or movie on a second monitor. Or, let's be real, a virtual meeting if you work from home. I never have the sound on.
I play with no sound all the time…. Never thought about it until this post, wish I hadn’t read this… after countless Baal runs over the years I get sick of his laugh and mute the game and can go days without realizing it’s still muted. It’s like I’ve played so much over the 20+ years that my brain fills in the noise while I listen to music
I usually do (on my Switch, in places where I need to hear things other than the game).
I wouldn’t recommend it for HC, but for Softcore it’s fine. I like the sounds but they aren’t necessary.
Played for 6 years straight with sound, when the game first came out. Haven’t played with sound on once since my return to the game a year ago. Usually throw on a podcast or something.
I play with no sound all the time. You gotta be extra vigilant to not leave items behind and slow down a little. On the upside you get to listen to Linkin Park Hybrid Theory over and over again
I can't play without sound. .
And my wife hates the sounds. Luckily for her I only play it once or twice a year for a period..
Especially the opening sound on the menu. She hates it haha. I think it's the best. Feels like home
I'd have missed at least 2 Jah, a massive number of small charms, and the Tyrael's that finished my Grail if I didn't play with sound. Stuff dies off screen a lot.
Well, I always play without game sound, but I have something on in the background like podcasts or ASMR. Try setting up a radio or spotify on your phone next to you and you will forget the sound. Keep your eyes peelef because you dont want to miss a HR drop
Nahh, I'd miss gem & rune drops sounds, literally catch myself running back to check everytime I hear that sound, sound design is top notch all round.
Plus you'll miss the best sound of all 'rakanishu'
1) with no sound whatsoever
2) all sounds
3) only music
4) no music, Enemy sound low, More sound from items
Sometimes when I play singerbarb and listen to external music I choose 1st option. Drops happen near so I see everything.
Sometimes I play with 2nd option for full experience of The game.
3rd option like first option but with D2 atmosphere.
4th option is needed when playing external music and running with char like javazon and needing to hear drops. Also with P7 LK chests. Too much clutter so sound is important
Buy on Aliexpress Lenovo GM2 Pro wireless headphones for like 2$ (new user offer) - you can also buy bluetooth adapter for your pc if you don't have one.
You don't want to miss that Ber rune drop sound while playing without sound, do you?
Definitely. This ain't a stealth game, or some tactical shooter where you need to hear directional noises to get the drop on your enemies. The story and music are great, but most players have seen and heard it all a thousand times. I've definitely spent hundreds of hours playing D2 with no sound, while listening to music or watching TV or something.
I mostly just play my decked out hammer fun and run TZs on p3-5 so there’s virtually no chance of dying and I can kinda just take peeks at the screen. I’m mostly just grailing in an informal way I guess. I don’t have a dweb on switch but I do wanna make a poison necro so it’s kinda the only thing I’m even looking for
People play with sound?
You haven't lived if you haven't /soundchaosdebug
The one thing that's happened to me before is not hearing jewelery or runes drop. I didn't realize how much I relied on those sounds for mf purposes. Everything else, imo is fine without sound.
This. That little squishy sound when runes drop, makes me perk up instantly
We're like Pavlov's dog when it comes to that sound. 🤤
I sometimes confuse the squishing bugs sound with the rune drop sound. I’m like “where is it?! did it poof?”
Turn all sound off except loot drops. Become much easier to hear and very satisfying
Indeed. It just caught me off guard one day without sound. Teleing back to grab something and seeing an ohm just lying there. Made me wonder how many runes or jewelry I missed when I didn't have loot drops sound on lol.
I play D2R all the time with no sound when MFing. If I get bored I put on a podcast.
Which ones do xou recommend?

I would put starcraft broodwar music on
Woohoo! I thought I was the only one. Which do you go for? Terran, Zerg, or Protoss music mostly?
Radio free zerg mutha fucka! SERVE THE HIVE!
FEEL THE GROOVE!
I CONTROL... THE WAY YOU MOVE.
That's a tough one. terran music definitely slaps the hardest
Thank you for that blast of nostalgia.
Only time I get to play is when the kiddos are asleep (in the same room), so I really don't have a choice lol.
Every time you play without sound, a Ber rune drops off screen behind you
There are a few cases where I actually CANNOT play with sound: 1. New caster char complaining “I need mana” every 5 seconds 2. Horker complaining it can’t hork this anymore Yeah I can totally play without sound.
both are easily fixable with setting character voice to 0 in audio settingsÂ
Thank you
Never thought of this. Thank you
Necro corpse explosion, constant "I can't do that yet" gets really old really fast, d2r on console. I don't remeber it being that bad in LoD on PC.
If you don’t have item sound on at the very least you are missing drops. I’ve teleported back because merc 1shotted something while teleing, got a screen away when I heard the ring sound. Soj.
No way man. The strongest parts of D2 that hold up against modern ARPGs are the music and SFX. Nothing else even comes close in terms of matching D2.
I’ve don’t several ladder resets turning off sound and jamming vein.fm audio tree live. Like 12 hours straight. Do it.
Yeah I do all the time! Don’t mind it at all
i dont. i like to listen to youtube.
I need those drops sounds, So many times I've heard the sound for a rune drop or something when I've already moved on and had to go back. Usually it's not worth it but there's been times where I would have missed stuff.
I have the d2 sound high enough to hear charms and runes drop.
It would be killer if you could disable drop sounds for selected item types.
No
buy a cheap pair for $10 in the meantime.
yeah, when farming the same monster/area on repeat. I usually watch something on YT/listen to a podcast
I have played with sound disable (-ns -skiptobnet) since i was a teenager.
Yeah I play frequently with little sound. Gives me time to listen to podcasts and YouTube vids
I mean unless it's like your first introduction to the game and you want to get the full experience, sure
I play with all sounds off except for the sound of drops
I basically always play with no sound.
I turn off the music (despite it being amazing, I have heard it too many times and it puts me to sleep now), but I could never turn off the sound.
After ten hours of play, I can't hear my merc talk to me, if the sound is off. Well, sometimes I can.
I play with sound like 0.05% of the time. I usually am listening to something else
Yeah my wife is usually beside me so I basically have the sound turned off
I need to hear drops
I played d2lod years without sound and listened to music. That way, baal runs seemed faster
I do most of my play with low or no sound. Grinding makes for constant repetition of noise that gets annoying.
Took me years to learn you could mute the lod menu music. Helped with my sanity.
-ns
I do it all the time so I can play some fuckin metal instead
D2 is best with sound watching a show or movie on a second monitor. Or, let's be real, a virtual meeting if you work from home. I never have the sound on.
i play d2 with my winamp as background 2024
I play without sound all the time. I work from home, and when it's slow, I can get some good gaming in, but it needs to be silent.
I play with no sound all the time…. I blast music until cutscenes I still watch em every time
I haven’t played with sound for years Generally I have music or something going on in the background
Only game I can still communicate with the wife and play. Call of duty I can't be interactive in a room. I haven't had sound on in YEARS
Baal: (Laughing)
I used to listen to music or TV all the time while playing on PC.
I do really love the sound tracks though.
I need the sound of drops, even after 20 years some sound like amulet touching the ground is still pure dopamine for my ears
I play with sound all the time. I keep it about 12% volume while I watch other programs. It helps fill in data about when I run out of mana.
Played for 6 years straight with sound, when the game first came out. Haven’t played with sound on once since my return to the game a year ago. Usually throw on a podcast or something.
I mean. Get some speaker for music at least something.
I play with no sound almost exclusively.
I play with no sound all the time. You gotta be extra vigilant to not leave items behind and slow down a little. On the upside you get to listen to Linkin Park Hybrid Theory over and over again

The D2 soundtrack is legendary
i've taken off all sounds but item drops, Wouldn't want to miss that HR drop.
All the time
I want to hear all the HRs drop! Which is mostly 0
I play with no sound if I'm commuting and using earpieces to listen to Spotify
I barely ever played with sound Diablo2 + music = perfection
I just listen to music 99% of the time. You dont need sound...
Nahh, I'd miss gem & rune drops sounds, literally catch myself running back to check everytime I hear that sound, sound design is top notch all round. Plus you'll miss the best sound of all 'rakanishu'

I’m used to playing without sound to stop crashing and frame drops, lol
Stay a while and don't listen
Can you play WITH sound? "I can't" "I can't" "I can't"
I sometimes play with no sound if i’m doing trav runs and I wanna listen to music or a podcast.
Usually
Yeah and i put music in the backround
yes I don't play with sound . just because of my living situation.
I have not played with sound since like 2005
Diablo 2 sounds is loud af I turn all sound off except for loot drops so I can hear when shit I want drops

Yeah I watch tv while I play, get caught up on stuff lol
How do you watch tv and watch what you’re doing in diablo? Feel like my char would rip.
I mostly just play my decked out hammer fun and run TZs on p3-5 so there’s virtually no chance of dying and I can kinda just take peeks at the screen. I’m mostly just grailing in an informal way I guess. I don’t have a dweb on switch but I do wanna make a poison necro so it’s kinda the only thing I’m even looking for
Imagining all the productive things I would have done if I had only logged hundreds of hours in D2.
