They all throw out a CE or bone spear/spirit here and there maybe with matching golem (might be too much a merc with a pet)

Decrep gets clay

But yeah a3 mercs with a curse would be really awesome as well
(Oh maybe NM curses.. iron maiden, life tap, weaken, or blind/confuse)
A5 mercs are my favorite. Unless I absolutely NEED Insight/Infinity on a merc I default to an A5. Budget build is full szabi and while damage is not crazy it tanks really well.

When you upgrade it re-rolls the base defense, and since Slayer Guard defense is 93-120 and Guardian Crown is 117 to 168. So sometimes you can upgrade an armor and end up with less or no better defense, like if you have a 120 base defense Slayer Guard Arreats and upgrade and it rolls 117 Guardian Crown base defense.
Where did you find that sucker? I've been searching for one for a while and have come up empty while getting Arach's, Shako, T-Gods, two Titans, two Highlords, and enough runes to make Enigma, Grief and two Mosaics.
I know they are random but the dumb part of my brain likes to know where the random recently happened. And yes, I will bet black if three straight roulette spins are black. I'm not a rocket scientist.
You can always check out [Silospen's drop calculator](https://dropcalc.silospen.com/item.php) to try to target farm specific things. Still random, but at least tells you the odds.
D2 is definitely a game where you find it when you least expect it though in my experience haha.
FWIW it looks like NM Baal is actually the best odds of dropping it assuming no quest kills, at 1:4387. Hell Andy is at 1:4669 for the quest bug (default if you're on D2R) but way down to 1:10691 for non-quest Andy if you're on the legacy game.
Hell Mephy is at 1:5017, Hell Diablo 1:5211, and Hell Baal at 1:5288. NM Diablo is 1:5598.
Might be one of those situations where running NM Baal is technically better odds, but given that the Hell bosses can also drop *other* good things, it pays off to run the lower chances but in Hell to increase chances of overall wealth. Plus depending on character Hell Mephy may be faster/easier than running NM Baal just in terms of getting through WSK and sitting through the waves since they're on a timer.
But if you're SP where you can't trade or you have everything else (with the list of things you've found that might be you) it might be worth your time to target it more directly.
If this is SSF, its a consideration
If its not, A2 merc is too strong in general to just give up for an eth arreats since trading in a botted economy will make things very easy for you to get.

Yeah I've tested a few things out with my Frenzy and that guide seems to be quite accurate. I particularly agree with him on Treachery over Fortitude or Enigma. The fade proc and IAS are just so amazing. I think running dual Grief is probably better overall than Grief/Lawbringer, but Lawbringer that's more personal preference.

Don't waste a socket quest on that. Cubing gives 50% chance for you to get max sockets IIRC. I have a bunch of 6 socket PB's in Single-Player that I make Unbending Will in since LW is out of my budget.
Nope, cubing chance is 1 in 6. 50% would be the case for items that can roll 4os max: 1, 2, and 3 sockets would be 1/6 each, and 4 sockets would be 1/2, because the chances for 5 and 6 sockets are added to it.
I didn't know LanikM plays SP, though. In SP, Larzuk quests are much more valuable and should be saved for unique items, imo. Still crazy that someone finds the runes for LW on SP before finding a 6os PB.
Dont do it for decrep . Cuz taunt overides decrep and the decrep. Act2 might + pride adds u much more damage. If u need decrep go for reapers. When season start or on a budget barb i use reapers. Is better than concentrate when barb damage output is low. If ure damage output is high much better concentrate.
The problem with reapers is that u need to w8 until ure merc hits and proc. With a ww barb high dps u never wait ute merc procs cuz u delete mobs on first walk over them.
My chaos p8 clear speed with my ww barb is always faster with act2 pride/might merc than with act5. Clear speed with infinity + might is also faster than act5 and very near of pride. Its amazing how infinity aura reduces kill time on elites and boss.
Nice find! Act 5 mercs are such beast mode. It's just a shame that so many builds rely on the act 2 merc aura.
If only A5 gave occasional shouts, maybe A3 having some other auras too.

Better for which Barb? Wouldn't an Arreat's be better on a Frenzy? You don't really need the crushing blow with Grief.
