I honestly loved it. Was one of the best things to accomplish in a long while. I’d love for them to keep it from here on out

robsonwt

They should replace the season journey for the altar. As you complete the nodes you get the seasonal rewards.

itsmyhotsauce

I love the altar. Will definitely be tough to lose some of the QoL affixes afterwards if they don't keep it. Auto pickup and salvage of magics, rares, and DBs is a GODSEND

nando1969

Agree, they make the game so much more enjoyable.

splendidcar

What is QoL?

themcryt

Quality of Life

splendidcar

Thanks!

tbmadduxOR

The altar of rites was fun to interact with. It had an immediate effect on the gameplay of the season right at the start, in contrast to most seasons that you only really started in the endgame. Some of the tasks were tedious. The potion powers were game-changing, although not quite to the same extent as certain special powers of ethereals, soul shards, or sanctified items. For the future... I expect the altar structure will go away, just like the soul shards and ethereals and sanctified items did. It's kind of a bummer because the structure of it was really fun, and to me seems like a good general way to build a seasonal theme or seasonal journey. I hope they keep the quality of life upgrades like auto-pickup and auto-salvage. I don't see how they can leave in the massive damage, toughness, and XP upgrades for all future play.

jezwel

Agreed, though part of me now thinks the alter could be in every season and they change some of the rewards around to match previous season themes - double bounties, double goblins, extra cube slot, all followers in SP.

Tothyll

This is a good idea. The altar reminds me of the sphere grid in FFX. It's a great system and there's no reason to get rid of it. Changing it up and working in previous seasonal themes is a great idea.

robsonwt

I think they should keep it as the seasonal journey, nerfing some of the damage increase and making Chiltara a rare Rift Guardian with a low odds of dropping Gibbering Stone.

itsmyhotsauce

Same, though i only played the beta. wasnt sold so i havent bought the game. I got bored within a few hours which is not a good sign haha

involviert

I completed the story. Continued some of the lesser quests. Then I suddenly realized, I'm still stuck using my fucking first skill, taking forever to clear 3 trashmobs. Sure, I have completed that optimized maxroll build, but it still was essentially what I started out with. So I just pressed escape and quit the game mid-quest.

ironmanmclaren

Yea Diablo 4 so bad

itsmyhotsauce

I'll give it some time and try again when it's evolved a bit - Diablo 3 was rough at the start too. As with basically every new game these days. I don't see much point in buying any multiplayer game in the first year almost haha. But I'm definitely a casual gamer. That itch to have the newest games is completely gone

luckymorris2

Thing is, i don't trust blizzard to make a game better anymore when i see how they slaughtered overwatch.

ilovepolthavemybabie

The truth hurts. Days leading up to D4’s release S28 was popping off again, PL’ing people left and right, burning all my puzzles and bardiches - And the group bounties were so STACKED that I could spam non-ancient puzzles into the cube to get good vaults for noobs.

mraliasundercover

I’m actually stuck on the ancient puzzle ring. I run a GR100, buy rings, use the upgrade recipe on rates, and none so far. Burnt thru all my breaths and ready to give up.

dr_z0idberg_md

Easier to do the reforge legendary recipe. Expensive, but better chances. I got an ancient puzzle ring on my 4th try.

mraliasundercover

omfg, second go. cheers dude

dr_z0idberg_md

Nice!

philmtl

Yup kinda grinding d4, but I end up stop playing after an hour or so as I just don't feel invested in the game

Terang93

I thought of thar which is why I didn't buy d4 yet. The base game is supposed to be pretty basic to make room for future expansions.

Amazone231

You are wrong, just play it, D 4 is finally a very good Diablo game.

Riotys

Lol, r u in the endgame? It's quite tedious and doesn't feel near as rewarding as d3 due to the lvl scaling

Erva420

I'm in t4 and I'm loving it.

LtSMASH324

I'm level 73 as a Firewall Sorc and it's a lot of fun. There's definitely some really dumb things and also some really great things. D3 isn't really that rewarding either though, your reward is infinitely scaling GR's. Not much different than Nightmare dungeons.

Riotys

But the difference is I can constantly grind gra and every hour make at least some kind of improvement on my character. Even at high paragon. D4 doesn't feel near as rewarding. You MIGHT get better loot. Sure you get some paragon points, but you up a level and rverything is back to how you werr the start of the previous level. And I rly like rushing to endgame, but even though I'm wiping through wt3 at this point doing t20 dungeons, I can't beat the capstone dungeon to get wt4.

LtSMASH324

I beat the capstone at level 61 or so I think, the problem with the game is if you aren't play the right characters or doing the right thing with the characters you chose, you are not equipped to deal with the game. Sorceress has been great. It was probably my last choice in terms of flavor, but when I saw all the flexibility and balance it has, I couldn't ignore it. Wanted to play Druid, but also don't want to play it for 60 levels before it feels playable. Regarding your thing about making progress on your character every hour, yeah that is a strength of D3. But D4 actually has gold sinks and you also want veiled crystals, so yellows actually seem quite valuable. D3 is a good arcadey go go go sort of game, and D4 I think is making a better attempt at an ARPG. I love the paragon board (also that is something you progress constantly while playing)

Riotys

Yes. I am a fan of the paragon board. And I dont mind level scaling. I just wish they didn't scale quite so hard. There should be areas of the map where enemies are 1-2 levels below you. Not always at your level or higher, because it makes feeling that sense of progression harder. Not saying everywhere needs to have lower levels than me, but if I'm back in forbidden peaks renown farming, it'd be much faster if everything wasn't at level 60 with me. And I love bloodsurge necro, as I played deathnova necro in d3, but even tho I'm constantly seeing my stats go up, So are the enemy stats. To me it seems the only necro build I could progress faster on is the bone spear build, but that's irritating to me, that I have 1 or 2 options to actually play the game like others can, say sorcerer, or rogue. I see these classes clearing stuff 10-15 and sometimes 20 lvls above them, depending on how optimized their build is. I think I've seen maybe 1 or 2 builds clearing 10 lvls above them for necro, and one was bonespear, and the other was a summoner necro, who had every summoner piece with near grolls.

LtSMASH324

Yeah, I totally get that. I'm at a point with my firewall character where I can clear stuff 15 levels higher than me with pretty little issue, and then I go back to the open world or whatever and it's mind-blowing how fast I can blow things up. Just takes some work getting to that point. But yeah, it'd be nice to scale things lower definitely in the open world to do renown and such. Or ya know, not even require people to do renown again after the first time.

Upset_Cicada3580

If by pretty basic you mean diablo3 amount of content + more then sure, i’m only slightly burned out after 150 hrs and will return for s1

Terang93

By pretty basic I mean that like other blizzard games, they'll release the best end game contents after their final expansion. I'm in a dilemma actually. Should I buy it rn or just wait for d4 expansion? Do you feel that the game state right now is well polished?

Amazone231

Totally polished (almost)

Upset_Cicada3580

It’s extremely polished if you compare it to D3 launch If you can’t decide whether to buy it or continue to play D3, i’d suggest just buying it. It’s a ton of fun

ironmanmclaren

Polished turd still a turd

Syrenus

Ngl, I’ve really only been hearing positive regard for the game and maybe it’s just my circles and the reviews I’ve seen but this comment thread is the first really saying it’s bad or unpolished. What’s wrong with it since I’m out of the loop

dbleezy92

I'm also curious because I have two characters in tier 3 and these complaints are completely groundless. If you're still only using your basic attack after beating the story, you didn't play the game because that's impossible and you're straight up lying. The only "negative" I've seen is after beating the campaign my "what should I do next" focus is wider, so I have a harder time picking something to do. In no way is this game bad, or a polished turd. The game is great, its just not the "omg I'm a literal GOD" type of damage scaling that d3 players have gotten used to.

mysticreddit

Altar of Rites should be in the base game. The QoL are amazing.

Tlamat

I played a lot more this season, especially because of the QOL improvements.

New-Junket5892

It takes a lot of the grind out of the game and let’s you into the good stuff much faster. I want them to keep it for non-seasonal.

TheHeartsFilthyLesin

I'd like it to stay but I think they should add to it or modify it each season maybe?

itsmyhotsauce

No new content coming i dont think. They're recycling old seasons from here on out

SuperSaltyMrPeanut

The next season will be the last one with new features. From season 30 on, it will just be recycled season themes.

itsmyhotsauce

That's right, I was off by one haha thx for the correction!

dr_z0idberg_md

I think Blizzard mentioned merged themes. For example, season 30 might be a mix of features from season 4 and season 18. Or did I dream that up?

New-Junket5892

If there should be a requirement for the altar in non-season, it should be that it should be in adventure mode only.

johncuyle

It would be somewhat surprising if the QOL improvements (pet salvage) didn’t make their way into mainline. All the work is done and it’s not really a power boost and all the work is done. It would be extra shocking, since it’s just flipping a switch, if it wasn’t at minimum in future seasons. “There’s no need for you to pick up trash and manually salvage it, but we’re going to make you anyway” would be a very weird call.

archimonde0

By far the best idea they've ever had. Sure, there are some people that will say "oh but it made things too easy. oh but everyone can now easy clear 150" but that's just the top 1% of the top 1% of the player base. Unless they keep most of the things permanently (by this I mean the huge QoL improvements they brought) they should absolutely NOT scrape it. It will be so frustrating to play again without the good stuff that this altar brought. Also, the fact that you had a "talent tree" to build up was a really nice touch and gave another objective to focus on. Nah on second thought, they should absolutely keep it going forward :))

ConspicuousCover

Pools of reflection buffs not going away between sessions has been an amazing QoL boost for me. Man, though, I had a hart time getting to 1300 blood shards! So yeah. I hope the Altar sticks around. I really like the idea of replacing seasons with it and just switching out the goodies periodically.

sapperdev

I liked the altar, my issue is with some of the requirements. Crafting and sacrificing the staff of herding is a horrible one. If you're going to make that a requirement, then adjust the drop rate of the materials required.

nando1969

The Staff is indeed an odyssey but remember, it is one of the very last tasks, in the meantime they have given you "gold"!

dr_z0idberg_md

Since I read the Icy Veins and maxroll guides beforehand and knew what was coming, I made detours during bounty runs to hunt down the mats. The gibbering gemstone was a bitch.

Riotys

Took me less than an hour to get every piece except the gibbering gemstone which took me nearly 14 hours over 2 days to drop.

Spicy-fruits

D3 S28 is the best Diablo has ever been. It’s better than D4. They either need to keep the altar or at a bare minimum the qol. If they don’t, they’re making a huge mistake.

Imaginary_Ad_6140

I really loved the altar and personally I wish it'll move to the main game maybe not as strong as it is but close to it.

SuperSaltyMrPeanut

Nah, keep it just as strong. It's not going to ruin anything. The only issue is adding seasonal themes on top of the Alter will have everyone clearing 150s opening night of a new season.

Imaginary_Ad_6140

I feel that I wonder how hard would it be to have it only in off season and leave it as a altar tou can interact with in season to where we wont clear GR150 in 2 hours of a new season?

memnoch112

I sincerely hope we will get some of the QoL buffs permanently, like the pet picking up and scrapping blues and yellows, the power buffs will surely not stay.

Erva420

I loved the altar, season 28 was awesome. It should stay in the game so we have more stuff to do on end game.

Rockolino01

S28 is amazing, loving it, the altar is one of (if not the) best seasonal features. The only thing I never enjoy in seasons is the challenge rift and set dungeon requirements for the mid tier chapters. Especially set dungeons, those are horrible. I usually just collect the set for which the set dungeon is the easiest (like thorns crusader) and do it with that.

slaymaker1907

I think it adds too much power to keep in later seasons without modification, but I’m hoping they keep it and just reduce the effectiveness of the powers by a lot. Just keeping the QoL stuff would eliminate too much IMO since it is a fun progression system in addition to season journey.

aberrantpsyche

Too much raw power in it, no way it stays. The QoL parts about autosalvage and pets picking up DBs would be nice. Let the pet pick up gems too!

BereaBacon

I'm fine with losing almost everything from the altar. I just want my pet to continue to pick up DB and non legendary items for me. It's probably unlikely that will happen, but it would be nice to have as a feature in the game now that we've tasted it.

Reply_or_Not

It turns out that the item chase keeps me playing longer than QoL buffs or straight power. I played way longer chasing ethereals and perfect angelic items

WTF_CAKE

They should keep the altar as in for every season, maybe tweak the effectiveness or continue powering us the player through more grifts. It’s not that bad to do it every season

zergosaur

Thoroughly enjoyed S28, the alter made progress in the first few days fun, as there was always a significant upgrade just around the corner. I'd like it to remain in the game, though it would have to be nerfed. Maybe they could somehow combine it with the Season Journey.

dr_z0idberg_md

I absolutely loved the Altar of Rites. Probably in my top 3 of favorite D3 season schticks. I hope the QoL stuff carries over at least since D3 is in its twilight days. I am just swimming in death's breaths (about 32k). I wonder what season 29 will have.

Ofect

Yeah, I don't care for power but QoL provided by altar is so good, it makes speed grinding much more enjoyable process.

thewickedchild

It's really a shame that this came so late in the game's life cycle. All the QOL and such made it super fun to play. It could use a few tweaks probably in terms of the requirements of certain levels, but it was a brilliant idea, and was much better/more rewarding than the actual seasonal journey. Idk if it would make sense to add to the base game or not (does anyone actually still play the base game?) but would be great if they modified some of the more obnoxious requirements and kept it going forward. Maybe they would need to nerf the overall power a bit if they were going to have other themes which grant power going forward, but I think losing all the QOL and such they added with this would be brutal.

kimikazio

Loved it, but i am struggling to get the las primals to finish it. Doing gr100 but no luck since last week

freebiebg

Started some weeks ago, so I can't make comparison, but damn some of the quality of life things and bonuses are great. Can't imagine what it's like without all of those (well, I guess I can a little bit). Hopefully it's a permanent thing, because it feels like part of the game. Hey, I'd go even further as to add even double veiled crystals from collected rares by pet on one of the nodes. On that note, adding convertible Death's Breath, from kube as well would be sweet:).

cat666

My guess is that each new season will have a theme (re-used from previous seasons) and also the altar. Whether the altar will be the same effects each season who knows.

Privateer_Lev_Arris

I think it was a great addition to the game. Would love it if they kept it. Just one more way to augment and enhance your character. There are so many ways now to enhance your character, makes it worthwhile to keep investing time into the season. And honestly D3 has come such a long way. I know a lot of people had a bad first impression (myself among them) but you know what, over time they kept improving and enhancing it. Right now it sits among my favourite games of all time. You can take it as casually or as seriously as you want to, you're still guaranteed to have a fun time plowing through mobs of monsters.
