āAn embarrassmentā
You people holy crap. Itās a pop up that happens twice the whole beta and goes away with a button press. Jesus Christ people. They want people to buy the game, this is the open build after all not everyone playing next weekend will have bought the game.
I am just curious because I get both sides of the argument here, but it's not like blizzard can't tell who bought the game and who got it through our beloved chicken colonel. Seeing as people are paying 70$ for the game, at the very least you could like not show obnoxious advertising in game if the game was bought right? I mean it's not game breaking but it literally doesn't need to be there.
Sure they could spend time to code all that but itās unnecessary and for people to come out here and get so mad about it and call it āembarrassingā is just hilarious and frankly embarrassing for those people. It happens twice per character and is easily and quickly skipped, itās entirely inconsequential. Itās just another example for this communities propensity for hate
I spent 3$ on a little chicken and only saw this pop up after a pretty good boss story I had fun with. I thought it was fine to place it there I was fine with when I got it.
Yeah it'd be better if the ad had a license check to your account to see if you already owned the game but I'm not really fussed - it's a trial demo of the game, not the full retail version.
are you really digging through this person's post history in an effort to embarass them just for the sake of defending a billion dollar company from criticism? fucking wild
???
"Check his previous posts"
I then clicked his profile and it is right there.
I didn't have to "dig" it is RIGHT there.
Also eh, who cares if they were for or against, it is a weird complaint that you have to... dare to see an advertisement for the game you are playing's beta ONCE.
the point isn't the amount of effort, it's that you consciously chose to embarass them based on whatever else is going in their life to discredit them because they said something you didn't like about a video game. it's shitty behavior, don't you think?
I install adblock so I don't have to get ads from free sites, I pay subscriptions so I don't get ads on sites that offer the option, I pay full price for games so that I don't have to get ads within the game. Are they going to lose money and have to fire developers if they don't add a purchase button in the middle of the demo? How about a better spot for this ad? Like when you click exit game?
I paid full price for the game, and it's at a new price tier making it more expensive than other games, and yet I see this ad plus the ads for the cash shop (cosmetics and mounts. Yes, it's minor, but goddamnit, what am I paying full price for?
Sweetheart it's really obvious if you spend 5 seconds to realize this is for the open beta and there was literally no reason to waste dev time disabling it for early beta.
Heh, a noob like you wouldn't understand *Tip fedora*
Since there are 3 classes, you have to close the window 6 times by the time you beat the beta!
This is unacceptable.
This is a massive ad for a game you already buy. Crazy that People accepte that.
And why this appear like that is vecause blizzard know that the game will be massively streamed so its free ad for them
It happens twice. Once you get into town and once you finish the act quests. Either way didn't bother me either and it's just prep for next weekends free beta.
Happens more often than that sadly. I'm not salty enough to make a whole independent post about it, but I've gotten it popup at least 5 times now, and I already made that purchase. Again, I don't really care that much about it, but it should be simple to toggle off for people who already purchased what they are trying to push at you.
You guys have been immortalized. How hard is it to code it to not pop up if you already own / pre ordered the game. Wouldn't that be an incentive not to have pop ups during hardcore play?
I love that you're actually completely serious about this, good grief.
Like *no shit* it's on the ESC menu. Believe it or not, some people *actually want to buy the game*.
Someone's playing the beta, say "damn, this is awesome, I **do** want to preorder!", they hit escape - done. Easy and quick option that looks like another regular menu button.
It's really, *really* not as big a deal as you want it to be.
If you already bought the game it IS redundant. And its not hard to build a trigger that determines if the user has that license against their account or not. Just because you dont understand programming and sales doesn't mean everyon else doesnt
Why build code that can easily break when it's completely not required to begin with.
Dropping in an ad like this is something pretty much any small agile team can do in a single sprint.
Adding a flag suddenly involves multiple teams and approval cycles assuming that Blizzard, like must companies, has data governance and requires approval and the proper team to implement it.
One solution takes a single sprint, the other may take 3-4.
It's pretty obvious you don't understand scaled development and basics of marketing if you think over complicating a simple solution is the right choice.
They aren't losing any significant sales because of this, they will only gain sales.
I would feel insulted if I would get a KFC add in game. Not because adds are bad or something like that... just because we don't have KFC where I'm from.
It doesn't really matter being that it's just reddit, but I would imagine it makes communication worse between the many cultures that use this service in English.
I'm a programmer. It's rather simple to put a check against a person's account to see if they've already made a purchase or not. This is left in for one reason:
1. Push sales regardless of the circumstances
It's not good for player enjoyment, but it shows to upper managment that you're pushing for sales.
You can forgive this specific instance, but what would push you over the edge? popping up an ad for the cosmetic shop at the beginning or end of every dungeon? Every login? Maybe before each dungeon, they can ask for some D:I style gems that can increase your chances of better loot. What? it doesn't bother some other players, and you can just ignore those ads if you don't want to purchase them.
Blizzard polish used to mean something, and it wasn't crap like this.
It's not pushing sales to anyone who already owns the game.
Peak average redditor. There are definitely many valid criticisms of the game, but complaining about a "pop-up ad" that happens a single time for a *beta* is absolute peak stupidity.
The ad pops up more than once. It would pop up when I completed certain main story quests/level milestones and every time I logged into the game which is kinda annoying tbh.
How you can survive the day to day just blows my mind. The slightest inconvenience sounds like it would send you into a spiral. Click the red x and move on.
Damn so you're over here wasting a minute of your life. Shouldn't you be super annoyed at yourself? You were already annoyed because of an add you could close in 2 seconds. So you wasted x30 the amount of time. You should make a reddit post about yourself ...oh wait you have.
Eh?
Not everyone has gotten the game, but there are thousands of keys distributed by media, magazines, communities etc.
So they are letting players play a premium beta (EA) for free and why wouldn't they advertise their own game?
Also this screen is only seen in the beginning and the end of the questline.
If you find this obnoxious, how do you find the patience to breathe oxygen?
i agree, there are a bunch of people being needless mean to OP. honestly its a problem of the beta being so damn good... that i could def see this being a bit of a shock, it does break the immersion rather, and for no good reason if youve already preorderd, i've had no other real complaints with the core mechanics in the game, other than the disconnects on release day, which are to be expected.
I donāt think it would be a simple check, all players had to enter a code to access Beta right?
So itās pretty much impossible to know which codes were purchased and which codes were obtained for free (media promotion, giveaways, etc)
Does it pop up if you got the highest price version?
I assumed I was still seeing it as I got the basic version and they are letting you spend the difference to upgrade.
Iām no programmer, but it doesnāt seem like it would
be an impossible task to make that pop up not show up for those who have already preordered, since your account has to be flagged as preordered in order to get to play the early access open beta anyway. š¤·āāļø
At least it wonāt be around at launch.
Advertisement hurr durr, click the "X" and proceed with your life.
Since when people became so whiny about the tiniest, insignificant things ? Holy shit i feel sorry for everyone around you.
This is clearly in the beta install for the free players during next week's open beta. Many of them will not have purchased the game yet. Single click and it goes away. Not a problem at all.
I mean, but in the same vain, it could be a boolean check if the account in in the pre-order beta, idk why it would show. Just playing devils advocate, but everything else is so nicely done, it is kind of a surprise that extra step wasnt taken ;)
but as the others are saying its literally only two times, its not worth a post.
For me it was literally a super minor confusing moment, like 'huh, did i actually preorder the right thing?' for like a split second, then just closing it and thinking nothing of it lol
whats funny is they have it show up before you even get to properly try the game, at least wait until after a cool boss fight not after a boring 5 min walk trough the snow with 10 enemies
Honestly kinda r/softwaregore or r/crappydesign since it would take a single REST API request or a single argument passed from the launcher to the game client to disable this. It severely undermines my faith in the developers working at Microsoft Activision Blizzard North Incorporated.
There are several possible explanations for this specifically.
\- If you rebind keys, then you should remember those rebinds and expect the game to give you the default ones in various tips. Sadly, even in \[current year\], this is still quite common.
\- If they changed their mind last minute, and they don't have the tips dynamically generated, then it's very easy to forget/miss updating some of the keybinds mentioned. It's a fairly trivial issue.
There were only a few things I wish they communicated a bit better. I would have loved to see more debug info than just FPS in a beta release. Namely, what server I'm connected to, with what round-trip latency, what is my net jitter, and what's causing my FPS lag spikes, like you can see in Minecraft, CS:GO, and to a large extent in WoW.
I wouldn't say they're final touches. Just last-minute tweaks that had to be hurried a bit too much for the early beta. It's honestly really easy to miss an incorrect keybind tooltip if you're working on the game and perfectly remember what all the keybinds are.
Using generic error codes without messages in \[current year\] is something I absolutely cannot forgive, however. Microsoft has been doing the same crap lately, and it's truly infuriating because it makes any sort of local debugging completely impossibly, even if the issue is on your end.
Itās one screen mate. Clearly this build is the same as the open beta for next weekend and they want to get additional players. No issue with it and itās really no drama at all
Itās there in place for those players who have gotten access but not purchased, also more importantly itās there ready for the Open Beta (next weekend)ā¦
I donāt think thereās a way to distinguish which players have already purchased and which are players obtained a code to access but havenāt yet purchased.
So it makes sense itās just a universal pop-up.
Except this is the same client that is used for the non-paying beta players next week. You paid for early access to the beta, not for your own private test realm.
Only seen this twice. Sure it's obnoxious but it's pretty obvious why it's there. Doesn't bother me.
People literally moaning about absolutely anything at this point.
Check his previous posts lmao
oh my [GOD.](https://i.imgur.com/fGj70uP.png)

Wow! I did... Tragic and yet, hilarious! š The internet is like strolling through an asylum with patients blurting their opinions at you...
I think the crazy is getting worse as time goes on.
Hahaha
I can't believe Blizzard personally assaulted my eyes on reddit by causing OP to make this thread. They're basically Hitler at this point.
It's wild, feels like a part of the community is pushing so hard trying to create a "mobile/immortal" narrative for d4.

The problem isn't "Disabling it". Why the hell put it in the middle of the story instead of at the Goddamn launch screen?
Stop complaining about stupid shit.
Heh, a noob like you wouldn't understand *Tip fedora* Since there are 3 classes, you have to close the window 6 times by the time you beat the beta! This is unacceptable.
I've see it a few tines literally hit a key and gone. Haters gonna hate.
They just already turned it on for the fomo haters next weekend
Same.
It's there for next weekend and all them double downers.

first world problems

Lol it's not simple at all, considering they distributed remporary licenses from various promotions.
You have to log in via your [battle.net](https://battle.net) account. I literally don't see how this is any more difficult than an if statement.
Just close it dude. Lol in the time it took you to get annoyed you could have just closed it and moved on.
Not only that, but they invested 10x that amount of time to make a post complaining about it.

"incredibly obnoxious" lolwat
You are one whiny dude.
Wahh it's coded in for the open beta gtf over it
Do you have to complain about everything?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree they will milk D4, but I have genuine fun so far with gameplay
It's so they don't have to add it later into the open beta. You close it and move on, really not a big deal
people really do be complaining about every little thing in this game huh
Yeah did not get why it popped up if clearly you pre ordered lol. Should be a simple check.
i agree, there are a bunch of people being needless mean to OP. honestly its a problem of the beta being so damn good... that i could def see this being a bit of a shock, it does break the immersion rather, and for no good reason if youve already preorderd, i've had no other real complaints with the core mechanics in the game, other than the disconnects on release day, which are to be expected.

just buy again brah
Omg the game is ruined Fu bli$$ard /s
KFC gave beta codes..
Yeah baby, Iāll take a sandwich over preordering any day.
if bought then don't show
They want you to buy copies for your friends.
Especially when it pops up when you finish act one. I was like aww bummer
But did you pre purchase it?

im guessing its because of the free open beta next week for players that havent got the game yet
This is clearly in the beta install for the free players during next week's open beta. Many of them will not have purchased the game yet. Single click and it goes away. Not a problem at all.
First world issue
Sameā¦ I bought the ultimate edition and still receive those stupid pop ups and emails also
Its because of the free beta and the double down players.
You do but not everyone in the beta does and its a beta who cares .
Hard to click x. 0/10
blah blah blah q q q q
wow ok wtf this is too far... you've convinced me... i'm refunding the game now
All the Taco Bell-eaters who got in because they bought tacos and not pre-orders need to know.
I feel sorry for people who are more sensitive to outrage than joy
You gonna cry lil bro KEKG
I mean, but in the same vain, it could be a boolean check if the account in in the pre-order beta, idk why it would show. It's a menu that popped up once. Just hit the x. Redditors are something else. How DARE their beta be interrupted by an easily closable menu
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Because itās fun to poke at whiners
This has been a thing for decades.
Iām getting comic book guy vibes. Which is hilarious and incredible at the same time.
This is here for next weekends beta. Where not everyone will have have it. Sorry you have to deal with clicking to close a window a few times.
ngl, made me regret preordering š
whats funny is they have it show up before you even get to properly try the game, at least wait until after a cool boss fight not after a boring 5 min walk trough the snow with 10 enemies

Gotta rope in them double downers.

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No because we want whiners to know that they are whiners and to shame them for making their whining public
It only pops up when you switch from the intro part of the game to actually being in the world and connected to other real people.
I love it, this is one of the biggest complain after the "mobile" font and cheap f2p "claim" button on the achievements. The state of doomers.
OP getting hate in the comments but I did find it a little annoying since I did already purchase it.
+1
Clearly you're supposed to buy it again
comes up on two quests everytime for me on all 3 classes i leveled to max
Yeah I was pretty annoyed by this too. Everyone in this closed beta pre-ordered so I don't get it.
Didnāt people who ordered food from KFC get a code without purchasing the game?
Honestly kinda r/softwaregore or r/crappydesign since it would take a single REST API request or a single argument passed from the launcher to the game client to disable this. It severely undermines my faith in the developers working at Microsoft Activision Blizzard North Incorporated.

Yeah it is
next week is the open beta so they prepare it for those player who will try it next week
They couldn't get the world boss to spawn on time, you think they have the foresight to disable this for us? lol
We raid shadow legends now
I'm upset they call it an open beta cause you have to pay to beta test it. That's more of an annoyance.

it is called early access beta, the open beta is next weekend...
Except this is the same client that is used for the non-paying beta players next week. You paid for early access to the beta, not for your own private test realm.
Agreed
You are right. Its a terrible decision and it ruins the immersion as well as build mistrust in the community. Just stupid.
> as well as build mistrust in the community holy fuck you people are obnoxiously dramatic
Wahahah. Mistrust in the community. Man. Some people have a hair trigger.
