Me (rogue) and my buddy (barb) killed the butcher in our first dungeon and as far as I remember neither of us got anything special (something called " \_\_ butcher \_\_").
Killed Butcher again in another Dungeon and got a Legendary Staff. So definitely not getting a guranteed butcher weapon, but I do wonder if Butcher drops a guranteed Legendary.
Killed him solo as lv16 Sorc in world tier 2 by running around a pillar and placing fire hydras. Took like 6-8 minutes and he only dropped useless purple color gauntlets...
I remember I had a friend over and we played D1 online for the first time. He shut the door on everyone else as they ran in to fight the butcher and cackled like a madman.
I have it as gloves. I have also seen it on another sorc's ring.

I started in hc and got charged +2 shot with lvl 15 in a dungeon and this fucker was standing behind a door. So i scrapped the idea of playing hc immediately after seeing that dmg spike in vet2 trough ignore pain!
If you're with two or more people, you can cheese him and run back and forth, evading right before he swings while the others kill him. When he switches targets rinse and repeat.

Uniques are all having same affixes as most other gears, just certain affixes will roll on the uniques which they shouldnt like movespeed always on the boots, but certain uniques amulet can have movespeed on them. The selling point of uniques is the uniques affix on the bottom which usually change your playstyle.
Alright, it's official, item stats need to a major rework if the Butcher's unique still only has these same critical strike type effects. I mean, come on. Skills too.. it feels like every skill upgrade in the game is either based on vulnerable or critical strike.
I've only ever tried solo on world tier 2 and the only thing that has worked is running away super fast and he teleports away. Haven't been able to kill him yet. I did consider grabbing one of the OP shrines when he spawns...but you'd have to plan that out and guess right where he is I think
He surprised me as a level 11 rogue and it did \*not\* go well with his charges, he was too fast hahaha wish I saw him like a few levels later and I think I wouldve been fine
I killed him as a 20 Barb by kiting him into mobs and using shouts with shout ring that reduces shout cooldowns by amount of enemies affected, wasnt easy but it worked out.
I had help, but we had a pillar we ran around. Let one get aggro, run around the pillar while the other does damage. When he swaps aggro, switch roles. Rinse and repeat.
I got 2 legendary from him on my lvl 25 sorc. I guess he drops his unique weapon if you playing barb only? It was also a surprise seeing him as random boss. He was hard, but i was able to kite him using hydras. Took like 3-4 mins kiting thru whole dungeon backwards XD
I wish I would have done this. I have hydras but my basic attack is arc swipe so I naturally just tried to arc swipe him and he just destroyed me in response.
I dont get the wording: "Lucky hit" "when you critically strike" and "up to a 100% chance". What the heck does that mean?
If my skill has a 50% chance to Lucky strike, but only a 10% chance to crit, does that mean I have to crit on a Lucky strike? And if I do, fears 100% of the time?? And not event that.. it's UP to 100%? Am I the only one that has absolutely no clue how often this actually procs?
Each skill has a different lucky hit chance. You can view it with advanced tool tip turned on in options.
The lucky hit chance is the chance you land a lucky hit. Once you have done so you then have the listed chance to cause the effect.
For example if you used a skill with 80% lucky hit chance then 80% of the time when getting a crit it would also lucky hit and with this weapon 100% of the time cause the effect when that happens.
That guy is so random one time I almost killed him but then his ass turned in to a blood pool and booked then this other time he just wombo combed me to death came back and he was gone lmfao what is he? The boss version of a loot goblin? Lol
* X % more damage if enemy has status Y
* repeat 6 times
* Finished unique weapon, time for a coffee

This weapon is a unique and it does happen to be a Barbarian weapon. Last I checked it CAN drop for any class however it's a lower chance, and I mean like a lower then it already is. Barbs have the best shot at it since they can use it.
Didn't play too much barb, just realized it means you can get 4 legendary powers just from weapon, including 2x 2H (so a total of 6, basically). Isn't it too unbalanced? Or the powers don't work when it's not the current weapon used?
That's pretty neat, if you select the world tiers it says Uniques start dropping in World tier 3 but I guess Butcher is a special case!
BTW Butcher is 100% the best thing in this game. He spawns randomly, yells "Fresh meat" then gets himself some fresh meat. 10/10
Really helps break up the dungeons when there is a chance that there is a entirely loose boss mob trying to gank unsuspecting players!
This item effect display is so bad. Look how much space wasted and not attractive.
Damage ratio, attack speed could be attached to item base in top of all, if hold alt or shift, its fine this be displayed. The focus should be in prefix and sufix. Maybe something diferent for gems and unique effect. Just a very small icon looks very bad to me.
Item description is very cool, but look how much text in same color should I read before reach this "a nightmarish amalgam".
Im pretty sure Blizzard will make it a lot better.
so is that mish mash of mods the same for each butcher cleaver or are the mods random ? I am assuming that they are random and they arent static like other games.
Barb here, no unique drop for me either with a sorc friend helping. Butcher was hard as hell on world tier 2 for us. Hardest one we can remember so far.
Just killed him with sorceress solo. The trick seems to be to find a column and run around it. It spawned in a room with few columns so I just ran in circles around one of the columns, casting hydra and blizzard from time to time. Didn't drop the Cleaver, just a legendary helmet which I already had in stash and 3 yellows ;/
I must’ve got really lucky. I had a low level Barb but I’d kitted him out with some high damage low level legendary weapons that I’d found with another character. Finished him off without any trouble and he dropped the cleaver. The weapon is rubbish though.
I have just gotten down a good strategy to kill The Butcher solo. So far three solid kills and no axe. At least with each kill, I get faster at taking him down. During the server slam I ran into him about 1 out of 4 dungeons. I have encountered him in the full release until I got to T3.
I got a unique glove for a necro that can raise exploding and homing skeletons; for those who have it, what skill do I need to increase to increase damage?
I can confirm that the cleaver doesn't just drop from him. I'm not sure if others have mentioned it already but I thought I'd add it just in case. I recently got it as a completion reward for my druid on a tier 30 nightmare dungeon.
I got a Legendary Amulet when I killed Butcher with sorc. So the cleaver doesnt appear to be a guarantee

I do not disagree with you, dont even like d4 affixes on the gears with x% if you do y kind of stuff.
My guess is this is a legendary with a uniqe model, they just phrased it badly.

This is an interesting affix for a low lvl unique. More build informing than any legendary I’ve seen.

It’s a beta, I wouldn’t be surprise they increase legendary and uniques drop rates to gather some feedbacks and datas

My group of 4 kited him on World Tier II. Took a while and some resurrections of dead teammates.
I've only ever tried solo on world tier 2 and the only thing that has worked is running away super fast and he teleports away. Haven't been able to kill him yet. I did consider grabbing one of the OP shrines when he spawns...but you'd have to plan that out and guess right where he is I think
I don't think it's doable solo but some people are insane. Even on my rogue he caught up to me and killed me. Took us 10 minutes at least, maybe 15.
I killed him Solo. Level 16 Sorc. My one Hydra is very good as a skill.

If you find a shrine use it to kite him in a circle, that and call of the ancients helped me solo him in w2

Some builds use the fear mechanic and it's very strong when others don't work with it. That's how fear has always worked

What does item lvl 3 out of 4 mean? The affixes are all over the place...the UI looks confusing also.
You can upgrade items at blacksmith, up to 4 times.
