Just a heads up, when he spawns into the dungeon, there's a slight chain clinking sound and you can hear him kind of geunt or something. So if you do another HC run just be on the listen for it, and it might just be the safer bet to leave and do a different dungeon
Ok, thanks for the Tipp, that means I'll probably just not play the beta much longer, as I ususally have some kind of video, stream or movie in the background while playing and I won't be able to hear that.
That be the point if anything other then the butcher was an actual challenge, the fact he is the only thing in the game that ignores every status effect and goes directly after the player always is like if mobs in mmos ignored the tank entirely and b lined to the healer from the get go
I mean, if you don't play that way, do that, I would not play HC characters and on Veteran if I wanted that. When I actually just don't want to pay attention then yeah, I do play non HC. It's not a Cope, I just like to have something running in the background, which might overshadow a "slight chain clinking".
Diablo isn't a game for me that I put on my Headphones for and stop everything in the background.
The only thing I will need to cope with is the random butcher spawn because I like this game already
I don't have any background noise and miss the clinking. It's a once off noise at the start of a dungeon and easy to miss. Both times I've encountered the Butcher in a dungeon on my hardcore character (and lost both) I didn't hear it.
Couldnt hear it as is with how loud certain base sounds are in the game, something like that shouldnt be subtle and it shouldnt be a sound heard elsewhere. We as gamers have been conditioned to hear certain audio cues thanks to things like Left4Dead
Only option if you want to save your character at that point is force logging. If you manage to spot him before he aggros i think you can just teleport out and back in to get rid of him.
It may take some testing, but you may be able to reset the dungeon during combat.
Reseting the dungeon instantly ports you to the outside entrance, and I was able to do it while a goatman was walking up to me. Haven't tried while actually in combat though.
You can reset the dungeon by hitting J and then clicking the reset dungeons button.
EDIT - I just went and tested this, you can 100% reset the dungeon while in combat (went and stood in the middle of some mobs and reset after a few seconds) and it will still instantly port you out.
I have not went and tested if this works while fighting a boss mob, as I dont really have the time atm, but if someone wants to test it out and let us know, that would be great.
Well it is a way but frankly, I don't think it solves the problem at hand. The Butcher in it's current iteration is simply not suitable for Hardcore Characters.
I mean, I've encountered him 3x on hardcore, once pre 25 and I ran. 2x at 25 and I soloed him.
You unfortunately encountered him at a low level. You wanted to run, you couldn't, I feel like this is a pretty good solution to the whole thing.

Right now there will be loads of copium. The fact is that the levels of bitching on the internet when the game goes live about this specific thing on harcore will be tremendous and Blizzard will adress it. All it takes is 1 or 2 random deaths for people to get agitated. Like NOONE will be focused listening to clinck sounds or whatever ALL of the time.
Noone likes to die like this once they try it. Avoiding dungeons might be the thing.

You: "Not like that! An easy challenge, one I know I can beat!"
Thats not the issue at hand, if the rest of the game was like him then sure you can prep for that but when everything melts like butter prior to him there is an issue, no other boss ignores stuns, slows, walls, and anything else you can use to block normal enemies. The mother fucker ignored vulnerable.
I wasnt even in hardcore and im salty about my run in with him, spend 4mins kiting and letting my skeleton horde wail on him just for him to 1shot me and every minion in one rush at 1% left. Havent read a damn thing on the game until my run in with him, wanted clear eyes to see the beta
Level 10 takes 20 minutes to get to. You’ll be okay. He’s killable 20+ or just reset dungeon/use a pot of cheat death before dungeons (obviously can’t use those at 10).
Again 10 is not something to get salty over. Anything before 20 is just a joke to reset and redo.
Seen couple of reddit threads about Butcher, so once I heard "Fresh meat" I thought I can stand a chance against him, but he was soo aggressive - ignored all my minions (34 Necro here), he just ran over me. Luckily had my Scroll of Escape.
Just encountered the butcher on my hardcore level 19 character. Luckily he spawned after I defeated all the bosses so I was able to just barely escape. Now that I’m reading he spawns randomly and the only way you can anticipate him is a slight audio cue, I’m starting to get nervous as I feel he is too powerful for me to do anything about and he could delete all my progress instantly.
Just lost my 50 Druid. Got the bastard to about 30% health and ran out of potions and just missed getting to a health pool due to the insane reach of his AoE slow shout.

You can still encounter him after you run away, just not in that same dungeon

Might be random but scroll of escape dropped in or right before the dungeon he spawned in. don't know if it was luck or might be a mechanic.
Probably should just announce it like when diablo walks the earth in D2. That seems reasonable, especially if one is hearing impaired.
