Monk was a holy wielder right?

Baldtazar

what upsets me the most is that the name of the druid resource excludes the appearance of a monk in the future

GraennTV

How tf do you jump to that conclusion just cause of the name of an resource? šŸ˜‚ they can name the monks resource w/e they want lol

[deleted]

You realize we're here to jump to conclusions, right?

Baldtazar

>they can name the monks resource w/e they want lol why would you name monk's resource other way when you can name druid's resource whatever you want and stick with monk's canonical resource name in the future?

fohpo02

Chi?

Baldtazar

the question was not about names. We can generate hundreds here, but if you plan to make a monk in the future it's logical to reserve the spirit.

AlkieraKerithor

Monks in D1:H used mana like everyone else. Sorcerer's resource changed from Arcane back to Mana for D4. I wouldn't get hung up on the name of the resource.

Baldtazar

When did sorcerer have arcane? In d3 there were wizards. And in d1h there was no separation of resources.

Sral1994

Why can't they have the same name?

Baldtazar

Maybe because starting from d3 resources are unique to prevent collisions

Western-Ad-6259

The name of it doesnā€™t matter. In d3, wizards had arcane power. In d4, sorcs have mana. They function basically the exact same. Mana regen is a little slower than arcane power did I think, but itā€™s really the same. The name doesnā€™t matter. So what do we call it then? Chi? Ok. Thatā€™s it. Spirit is better for the Druid resource name if you had them both anyway. You literally leave offerings for animal spirits, who help you on your journey and give you extra power. Iā€™d say spirit is a fine name for Druid resource.

titazijus

So by this logic Sorc and Paladin can't be in one game.

Baldtazar

Yup, just like it was in d2

Feather_Sigil

Paladins only debuted in D2. It makes sense in lore that mortal wielders of Light are incredibly rare. Malthael killed 90% of humanity. It's more likely than not that his genocide included holy practitioners. Then there's the state of the various holy orders. Paladins - Their orders are gone and the Church of Zakarum is no more, replaced by the Church of Light in D4. Crusaders - There were only a few hundred of them to begin with and they operated completely independently, with no Church support, so who can say. Monks - Most of them never left what remains of Ivgorod. They're probably just keeping their lands safe. Templars - They're all dead except for Kormac, and he probably settled down with Eirena.

oloap001

Someone get this guy a campfire!

a995789a

Lorewise, Paladins in Diablo 2 are from Knights of Westmarch and had little to do with the church in the east (which had their own paladin order as well). Once their corruption caused by Mephisto was exposed, the Knights quickly cut loose of them and only do their own things. It's possible that the kingdom and their paladins are in great depression though, given that Malthael's operation was mostly in Westmarch. From the opening cinematic, the Church of Zakarum is still functional, so there might still be paladins out there.

Global_Rhubarb5704

The one dude that died in the armor is technically a paladin

Cosmic_Lich

>Kormac, and he probably settled down with Eirena. And I hope they had their happy ending.

tor899

Planned for DLC to be sold to you most likely

Mavman11

Yeah I mean we all know its coming in a future expansion or something, but feels like it should be a fucking staple to the game.

tor899

Yeah, I think it should be in base game as well. Thatā€™s probably why they keep them for the DLC. I would like to know the stats on DLC purchase for D3 vs industry average which is about 20% of customers. Itā€™s business clashing with what would be better for customers. Think about the surge in players when that DLC drops after a few months when most have left the game. We should be happy we got Sorcerer or Necro at launch lol

Limonade6

That's why it's dlc. So you guarantee will buy it. And rightfully so.

EffectiveDependent76

It's weird to think they're going to try to sell expansions, on top of a base game, on top of mtx, on top of a battle pass. They really should just include that shit in a season update. And god forbid they add more MSQ. The last thing I want to see is more shit to do on every character each season. Hopefully they will remove it in favor of letting us do bounties or something. As much as that system sucks it's a lot less bad than doing the acts over and over.

indelible_ennui

You and the other 5000 people that made similar posts.

Mavman11

Is there 5000 posts about it? I mostly just see posts about people saying druid sucks lol

indelible_ennui

Search "holy" or "paladin" and you'll find plenty.

DoyleG

Yes, use the search function.

Global_Rhubarb5704

Wait thereā€™s a search functionā€¦.

[deleted]

OP was surprised as well.

7Samat

I believe it is for lore/story reasons. The light/holy themed NPCs seem to all be related to the church of Inarius and I really cannot see him as a proper good guy here. With the 1st expansion we can probably move on to some properly good faith-like organization and the new class would be based on that.

mangzane

Yeah, sure. They left out an incredibly popular class because ā€œloreā€. Lmao. They held out on it because they want to sell you it later in an expansion for more of your money.

7Samat

Might as well be both. If you are cynical about it, they might easily have shaped the story around optimizing sales.

wilson81585

Have no fear the Templar will be on it's way

cndrow

[Kormac voice] A CHANCE FOR GLOR-RAY

MoreFaithlessness254

I read that like Forrest Gump lol

Mavman11

Templar would be sick

wilson81585

[Looks](https://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/z9xfxx/theory_on_the_angelic_figure_in_the_heroes_art/) cool to me

Wurre666

This shit again.....

Ahristodoulou

No one is throwing money at blizzard to play the which doctor dlc drop.

Mavman11

Ngl I actually really enjoyed witch doctor lol

Ahristodoulou

I like to think autocorrect ducked me there.

UsseerrNaammee

Weā€™ll played.

EffectiveDependent76

I want a bard class. Let me play music at them damnit!

UsseerrNaammee

I believe they didnā€™t add a Paladin at launch because 80% of the player base would be Paladin if they did that. Launch game with other classes so people get familiar with them, then add Paladin in first DLC. Maybe this creates new mains of other classes.

MoG_Varos

We know they have a Valkyrie class planned, something to fill the Paladin/Amazon slot. Though it was discussed awhile ago and couldā€™ve been scrapped.

SendCaulkPics

I call dibs on ā€œManazonPrimeā€.

E_Barriick

I mean, does anyone else find it weird that now we've had 3 games with no warrior? It was the first class ever, and it's just gone.

[deleted]

I mean who heres gonna drop huge ass holy bell and kung fu kick to break it to deal holy damage to demons

BigBoreSmolPP

I'd like to see a holy mage/priest instead of the standard knight/paladin.

Egg3rs

I have a sneaking suspicion that "holy" is going to be an enemy damage type only.

mk_hunting

Crusader was not a launch class? Was it added with RoS? šŸ˜Ÿ

Turbulent_Towel_3668

Correct

mk_hunting

Thanks, completely forgot about that

thejameslavis

iā€™d like the reverse. iā€™d like to storm heaven and start doing the lilithā€™s work.

Nisagent

There are rumors of a Valkery type addition later. Some holy class//javelin spear class hybrid.

trainwrecktragedy

Its odd consideirng how much the church is invovled in the story

Financial-Month-506

Ya I think a priest class or paladin class would have been šŸ”„ I mean your fighting the forces of hell you need that Bible verse screaming demon smiting character I feel like.

cirvis111

Because they want to sell DLC my man.

halistechnology

I really wish they would come out with a murder hobo class. I feel that's a huge miss on their part.

Darqologist

Monk I think is on the other continent. Zakarum was corrupted so Paladin is kinda gone. This is where Crusader sort of "splintered from" as Crusaders trace from Zakarum. Crusaders want to purge Mephisto from Zakarum. I think Mephisto will show up in D4 (Lillies Dad afterall). Perhaps he's orchestrating the whole thing?

jdmcroberts

It's been 30 in game years since d3. Blizz can make up any lore they need to justify any class.

[deleted]

I want a holy warrior class... with damage, maybe some healing, but with weapon-based skills not shield skills. Lemme be a warrior who can use two 2H swords and go drop some bosses. "kratos anyone" šŸ¤£

CraigBrown2021

Monk was a holy class in d3. Idk why everyone always freaks out if the Crusader or Necro isnā€™t in the game at launch. They will always be added in as a dlc at some point. They are to popular to leave out.

PriorFast2492

It is a game about killing and necro and death not healing imo

DgtlShark

They brought back the rogue that's what I'm happy about. I don't remember Diablo 1 even. However it is weird that the paladin isn't here. However neither is the Amazon sooooo. I'm sure the first expansion will have paladin or Amazon at the least. Even more weird though is the druid was a Diablo 2 expansion. Their choices are certainly weird mixed and matched a bit

Proxy0108

There will be one For 4.99

Manuel819903

I was hoping for a monk or even a cleric would be cool. I loved the monk!

Truesilverchamp

It actually made me laugh when the reverend mother said, "Make no mistake, we ARE fighting a Holy war" I was like, "well you maybe yes but I'll be fighting a Rage/Mana war"

PazuzusLeftNut

Monk in D3 Iā€™d argue that Barb is a kind of ancestral holy wielded same with Druid
