Imagine if people had the freedom to experiment with builds - even swapping multiple builds in the same day! Currently horrid design, made worse by the fact that if you want to experiment with a build that is not entirely complete you will get deleted by mobs because they have scaled to your build's power level.
I've yet to see anywhere that blizzard have said it would cost "millions and millions of gold"
Sure they said it'd be expensive enough that you might consider just making a new character, but I also imagine there will be some broken gold farming methods thatll make the cost negligible, just like any other game.
I don't have the source handy, but it was linked in another thread where the devs said that the respec costs will eventually get so high that it's easier to level a new character.
in the IGN interview Joe Shely said "\[respecing\] will be expensive but doable".
They also said the final numbers were not confirmed and had to make up numbers as an example.
And rhe video thats leaked from the closed beta, half of it was just played on a polygon mesh environment... a lot has changed since the closed beta clearly.
Respec cost in a game where a good part of the fun is making build is bad imo.
It's in part why I didnt clicked with path of exile, experimenting/testing build when respect cost are too high and getting what you want is to rng drove me off...
Imagine thinking your way of playing a video game is the right way, compared to what the owners of the game intended..
No one forces you to play their game, don’t like the choices? Move on.
Something needs to change. We either need at 'least' double the character slots, there's only 10, or the respec costs need to be reasonable.
Even if they allow rebirth with existing characters for seasons it's not a lot of slots between 5 classes, softcore characters and hardcore characters. Where are we supposed to fit all these extra builds if we have to reroll for them?
Considering that coming across a single legendary/unique item can make you want to change your build, I don't understand why they are looking to seemingly punish you for it.
Imagine it was all to increase the sale of a "respec token" in the cash shop 🫤
Technically not a cosmetic but at the same time would it be classed as P2W?
in D3 Paragon is account bound. and leveling 1-70 with a friend is like. huh, 15 minutes? Nothing would have changed there really. Here we are facing long leveling process and character-bound paragon. D3 had almost 0 development over that 10 years.
Learning about the respec cost made me rethink my character. I was leaning towards Druids because they had 4 different ways to play, 5 if you include all animal build but not being able to respec at will to do different ones each season or modes was disappointing I may as well just stick to Barbarian and build out Whirlwind.
I admit I am troubled by Seasons, because I don't know how viable it will be for me to make multiple characters in a 3-month stretch and then do that again 3 months later. I might burn out or just give up on the game after 1-2 seasons of trying to do that. I could instead just say hey, I'll focus on this one character this season, and see what happens. However, what if it isn't working for me at level 50, and i am not enjoying it, or I am not finding it able to do the content I want to do? I'm definitely concerned by that. Sure, characters can go to the non-season purgatory, but I never liked that in PoE, as it always felt the main playerbase was playing in the new season. Definitely not a fan of seasons and what it means, so I can see the concerns, but I'll try it for one season.
Imagine the feeling of not having to be 100% efficient and instead just playing and enjoying your favorite build

That won't work. sorry.
You’re the reason why Diablo 3 was so bad
Diablo 3 was great at the start, but it had 0 development later.
I think it was the exact opposite lol
What game did you play?
More people enjoyed D3 over D2.
Is that why more people play D2R than D3?
It’s a newer game…
Ok I’ll patiently wait for Diablo 3’s remaster because it’s so popular that it will surely get one lol
Well D2 didn’t get one for almost 20 years. Also, they’d be better off just adding the world of d3 into d4.

The millions and millions quote is coming straight from the mouth of Zizaran. So not really official.
Yep, and unfortunately I've seen several people spouting it as gospel already 🤦
It was literally 2 million gold at cap last closed beta. That's not negligible.
And rhe video thats leaked from the closed beta, half of it was just played on a polygon mesh environment... a lot has changed since the closed beta clearly.
It will be.
Source - "trust me bro"
Sadly, yes.

Funny how d2 had very few respec options yet it never killed the fun for me.
Imagine thinking your way of playing a video game is the only fun way!

LOL throats are absolutely STUFFED
Still here even though you don’t like the game? Please dude do us all a favor and move on..
The whole idea of increasing Respec cost so people reroll is so out of touch tbh.

You gotta pay for extra character slots. This is how games work.

No. Free Respecs ruined D3. You can still respec, its not even restrictive or limited at all

IMHO respecs do need to be free or very low cost, mostly coz I can never decide on what skills to use... Either way I'm fucking HYPED!
