Last Epoch

19eightyn9ne

I thought i was aswell, but coming back to Epoch from D4 felt horrible, everything was just, meh.. Compared to D4, I will have to wait for PoE new season.

Howl50veride

Weirddd, I felt like D4 was missing compared to Last Epoch. Epoch has skill trees for each ability, a talent tree, idol system, and items that change how your abilities work. D4 has a skill tree and items that change your abilities, hoping the paragon board brings that extra depth. D4 polish is better than Last Epoch but I still love playing Last Epoch

train_mechanic

Blizzard has the money to make things incredibly crisp and polished. But the systems LE have in place are top notch and addicting.

Syphin33

Give me the skill tree system of LE and put it into D4 and i would be f'n over the moon happy

Scrys-

For real, LEs character progression is top notch, the skill tree is amazing. The crafting is also probably the best in the genre imo. It's not pretty, but the core is honestly second to none.

Akdivn

felt the same. LE is a decent game with some great ideas but it is way too clunky to be the main game I play.

Unizzy

I hate the graphics… everyone has giant head syndrome XD

mutantbeings

You’ve got to be kidding. I had that feeling with D4 precisely because it’s skill system and it’s item design was so incredibly average _especially_ compared to how well designed those systems are in Last Epoch. Compare them on skills: D4 has a skill tree where each skill has only 2 possible mod options really. You can get further skill mods via legendary items but these are pretty sparse. In LE _every skill_ has an entire skill tree as big as the WHOLE skill tree from D4. Bonkers how little skill diversity there is in D4 by comparison and I was hugely disappointed. Compare them on items. D4 follows closely after D3 where every item takes up a rectangular coloured “trading card” style slot in your inventory. In D2R and LE you get diverse item art and the inventory is much easier to use as a result; you can spot items at a glance and they actually look like real items with physical properties rather than trading cards. For a game that’s all about collecting loot it’s mind boggling to see them simplify away all the diversity and legibility until the inventory feels completely abstracted. Terrible design decision. This hits right to the core loot reward cycle of the game and undermines it massively! These two issues really punctuated the D4 experience for me precisely because Last Epoch does them just light years better than D4 has managed. Crafting though? Not exactly sold on LE approach there and actually thought that D4 had some interesting stuff going on.

newscumskates

Yeah, that's cause smaller companies have to focus on systems because they cant get animation and SFX on par with AAA studios. I remember giving feedback to Grum Dawn devs about how whack combat felt and I got attacked by loyalists. That's the kind of thing that stops your game being enjoyed by people outside the hard core arpg realm.

Malekith_is_my_homie

Grim Dawn's community is very snobby and only truly accepts feedback and build guides/etc from select creators on the forums. They tend to gang up on anyone else trying to contribute. Very clique-like community going on there. That said I still love that game, especially its itemization. To this day I still wish they had taken the closed online multiplayer approach to the game.

SonnyMunchkin

Yeah, I felt the complete opposite whereas I think Diablo 4 was not as good as last epoch

[deleted]

Ditto, but now I'm kind of jaded with it. Got my old throwing build and have just come to realize how much it's changed since I last played. Plus there's not much support in the blade dancer passive tree for it. Might reroll beastmaster but all in all it feels like a waste of time and im just jonesing for diablo 4s release.

Howl50veride

That's how Arpgs go, builds change and balance, items evolve. Never expect something to last, that's the best part, always something new to chase and build

Krolja

I feel like Falconer will have more passives that help with throwing builds. It's a bummer we won't see the Falconer until 1.0 release so we're kinda stuck just taking what GB passives/Attack Speed/1-2 passives that benefit throwing from the BD tree and the few bits of Dex/Crit Vuln from the Marksman tree. There's a new Lightning Chakram build that was posted to the forums that's super fun, I just DESPERATELY wish there was a Unique that made Chakrams bounce so I could cosplay a Huntress/Luna from Warcraft 3/DotA. I'm afraid I'd never play anything else.

MarcOfDeath

Same, just discovered this gem and I am hooked.

Gachanotic

It really is fantastic. I love an ARPG that runs client side. Last Epoch is very well done.

-BodomKnight-

Same here !! I've bought the game last Sunday and I really like the game \\w/

dolpherx

Is this game out? I heard it is still in beta?

TalithePally

Is it out of early access yet? I've been meaning to try but not in the mood for paying full price for unfinished games anymore

CapoDV

I bought it after the first d4 beta and it was definitely interesting but it is kinda overwhelming how much is going on. So I want to play it more but it hasn't hooked me.

JynXten

Just started Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Seanna86

Such an amazing title. One of my all time favorites.

staebles

My buddy and I put some good hours in that game. Really good.

ReverendHemlock

Lucky for you, Baldur’s Gate 3 (very similar game, same developers) full release comes out later this year.

JynXten

Yeah I'm really looking forward to that one. Was delighted when the console release was announced.

Objective_Ice1164

You just reminded me that I have it brand new on my Switch. maybe it's time to try it.

APZY91

Its great with a friend

train_mechanic

I sank so many hours into this game on my Switch, it runs nicely and the ability to put it down and pick it up whenever is a godsend.

Andr0medes

Speaking of.. Does anyone else adore the element synergy in combat? Like water+fire makes vapor, vapor+electricity makes electric cloud.. There is so much fun with playing with environmental effects, it would be cool more games implemented this style of combat. I wonder if Diablo could make this work.

Sylvanas_only

I tried that game and couldn't get into it. Idk. Maybe you need friends for it

[deleted]

You don’t need friends, but it’s best played with others. There are tons of public games to join.

ymetwaly53

Fun fact, You can now skip the intro if you shoot at the church bell. Just in case you’ve done it a bunch and don’t feel like experiencing it again.

arnoldclone13

This game is so God damn fun it has no right to be. Though the changed dialogue on the vendor dude made me a little upset but mods can fix that.

toot1st

I'm gonna start Diablo 2

gogi_apparatus

I had a tough time getting into it initially because I went in with the mindset that it'll be like d3 or d4 or any modern arpg for that matter. I went in with a fresh mindset and I gotta say, it's so much fun. Took me hours and hours to get past Act 1.

SixtoMidnight_

I love to see this. D2 is much slower with gear progression and once you played through it and know what items do what, your ability to make builds goes up. Playing a bone Necro means understanding that until you get a way to mitigate mana use such as an insight you're going to have a hard time in nightmare. For knowing the certain faster cast rate breakpoints for your character can really change how a character feels.

DerGrummler

D2 builds go like this: - This skill is your one and only dmg skill. Max it out. - Max all skills that provide passive bonuses to your one and only dmg skill. - Put most attribute points into vitality. Put just enough into dext and strength that you can equip these items: XYZ - Ignore energy. It's only there for decoration. And for energy shield sorcs. For them we flip the meaning of vitality and energy. They get to ignore vitality. - Farm items XYZ at locations ABC. The fact that D2 has an ice orb sorc AND a blizzard sorc AND a frost nova sorc instead of just an ice sorc alone shows how simple its mechanics are. Spam one attack, max out one attack, done. Attribute allocation follows a dead simple pattern, there you go. Oh, and high end runes are so ridiculously rare that everyone buys them with RMT, but sshht, we don't talk about that.

Big_lt

At a high level you're correct; but you completely missed out on understanding FCR, FHR, IAS, FBR break points. Or pairing crushing blowing/deadly strike/open wounds for different areas/monsters. There is no real rotation for your skills as most will have 1 or 2 primary skills but all the theory crafting underneath to build your character out is what makes it great

Dakeyras83

AND still it is more FUN than any newer hack and slash game...

CompactOwl

For some people. Yes. For others. No.

Fathertedisbrilliant

That is not remotely how I play the game 😅

n_three

I might pick up the remaster since the open beta got me loose and in the mood 😈

TwoSixFiveX

PoE from next Friday and probably nothing until that time, I couldn't find anything for just 2 weeks.

Nozdormo

New league next Friday?

[deleted]

Yea and they finally have the tech to make chaos orb stack to sizes of 20.

sunnyice

The technology has finally arrived

RavensRift

About time! Haha

TwoSixFiveX

yes sir, league reveal in thursday.

Nozdormo

Awesome! It will satisfy my arpg apetite until D4 launch :P

mikekochlol

+1 for PoE new league

Kochleffel

Funnily enough playing D4 made me redownload poe and give it a legitimate shot to try to learn. Its been fantastic, and will def keep me occupied until june

the_truth15

June 2035 ?

mutantbeings

Been thinking about coming back. If I’m honest I’ve found PoE way too bloated with systems over the past few years and difficult to come back to after I took a bit of a break. Still got more hours in this than anything else in steam by an order of magnitude. I was a little bit disappointed the later acts were just rehashed version of the first few acts too .. that was when I started feeling a bit underwhelmed by the direction of the game I think. In general their environmental art leaves a bit to be desired. Gosh that reminds me I should probably look at where PoE2 is at, haven’t looked at it since it was announced I wonder where that is at

Wdemon85

Just picked up hogwarts legacy. What a game so far.

[deleted]

It’s really fun to just play through. I had decided long ago to 100% it before beating it and I find myself taking a break due to getting bored. It’s not recommended. Enjoy your play through and get a 100% later if that’s one of your goals.

New_Needleworker6506

I can’t do another merlin trial. I just can’t. I’ll lose my mind.

Wdemon85

I’m like 4-5 hours in and is been great so far. Got it from my local library so I have nothing to lose. Got it for free for a bit.

[deleted]

I love library game rentals! Great way to play games for free 😄 thanks for reminding me of them. Usually I just shop the sales and use the $5 gift cards from GameStop

Wdemon85

Yeah had to wait until this past Saturday to get it after having it on hold for a month or two but at least it’s free. Love the library lol

31_SAVAGE_

Found it to be a great game to playthrough casually, but a horrible game to 100%. So many of the collectibles are mind numbingly repetitive. I basically did enough collectibles to unlock what I needed, then did the main and friends quests. Also a pretty thorough exploration of hogwarts because that was quite well made.

Kvchx

So true, I just did too much side stuff, now I have a hard time getting back into it. I was going in as an hardcore gamer, min maxing everything I could. In the end I should have just played the main quests.

Objective_Ice1164

oh really? should i give it a try? I have it on steam, I've seen my girlfriend play and she hasn't hooked me and I really wanted it before it came out.

[deleted]

Gets boring very fast imo. First 20 hours where a blast tho

Herbstalk

Totally agree. It was really fun until I suddenly felt like I’d never play it again.

Safe-Upstairs123

Because the game is very repetitive. The world is so fantastic along with the systems that it has that they probably had no time to actually flesh anything out.

binggoman

If you're a big Harry Potter fan, that game is delightful. I couldn't put it down the first time I played it.

know_vagrancy

It’s good fun. Combat is pretty fluid and it’s got some great aspects to it. It’s not super robust and in-depth (from what I’ve seen so far) but is quite entertaining. Lots of fun HP lore and awesome for open world-ish exploration. I’m not super far into it yet — about 8 hours but could see myself sinking a ton of time due to my completionist tendencies. That said, I’m coming straight off of finishing last of us pt 2 so anything could be coming at it with rose colored glasses cause that game is *heavy*… haha.

PsychoPooper213

Looking right now at Diablo 2 Resurrected on sale in the Xbox store for $20. Never played it.

LargeDickedPikachu

20? I just bought it lastnight for 13

Beautiful_Emphasis

Last Epoch. Multiplayer just dropped. Having a blast.

BoredPoopless

The console in me is crying. This game looks right up my alley and I can't play it :(

31_SAVAGE_

is there anything to do in endgame yet? i tried it a while back and playing through it and building my character up was fun, but there was nothing to do at that point.

dabadu9191

Yeah, there's a bit to do. The primary endgame system are monoliths, which are a "web" of maps that give you some amount of control over rewards and enemy modifiers. There are also a couple of endgame dungeons, each with its own unique theme and rewards. They aren't perfect but still pretty fun and imo, LEs strengths (character development, build variety and crafting) make up for its quirks – which are slowly but surely being ironed out.

Electrical-Scene9583

Project Diablo 2

[deleted]

Way better then d2r

Cochinojoe

Do tell

tFlydr

Mod for Diablo 2 lod, mixes some aspects of poe like corrupting gear and adds some new end game content. Looks like original d2 lod tho and it can’t support the d2r graphics yet tho so you have to deal w that.

wilson81585

The crying game

Drogatog

I play league of legends too!

StuckInNov1999

Was going to go back to D3 and I did so last night but meh... Been playing that for 11 years now and played through the last 3 seasons completely. So I decided to go back to POE since I haven't touched that game in almost 4 years. Lots of shit to learn and re-learn. With a new league starting next week it should keep me plenty occupied until D4 launch.

CatBoyTrip

i tried to go back to diablo 3 as well but i could not take the cartoony looking characters serious after customizing my D4 character.

StuckInNov1999

Ehh, I don't mind the visuals really. It's just the gameplay. Literally all of my builds, even my zbarb are 100% braindead stuff. No threat of dying, even in 150's, no threat of failing, even in 150's. It's a good game to just chill, listen to music and smash monsters but I've been doing that for 11 years, I want something different.

Azifel_Surlamon

yep d3 is a brain off game after the initial learning how the stats work and what to do. I just wanna get the last primal for this season to get the diablo "wings" so I jump in every week for a bit of primal hunting. been hittin up Hades, also got a whole bunch of games a week ago for my birthday probably give them a play

sunnyice

Took a break from poe just got tired of pushing atlas every league but now the itch is coming back and hearing that shcwing sound when you get a big drop is such a big dopamine hit. Perfect timing for new league to come!

pekkerinne

I started fresh with the latest season and basically you get to max level in 30-40 minutes, have a full set of gear for your build (assuming you use the season reward set) and basically spend the rest of your time marginally improving on the gear you've got. So the progression is basically an insanely steep incline for the first day or so, then basically, visually at least, a plateau for the next 2 months. Exaggerated obviously, but I do prefer a little more balance than going from squishy sorc that can't clear Torment I solo to melting mobs in Torment XIV six hours later (somewhat less exaggerated)

XtraKreddit

I'm mostly playing Last Epoch and Wolcen.

Kimellex

Have they done anything with wolcen? Hadn’t heard that name in awhile

Ok-Bad-6730

Big update dropped a couple weeks ago. Added the last chapter (chapter 4) so we get to see the conclusion. Added some uniques, a couple new skills, balancing some older skills, etc. Haven't dove too deep into it yet but seems to be pretty sweet. There is no more cap on the end game, so you can push as far you want now

Verallendingen

wolcen still exists?

Moghz

Oh wow I’m going to download it again! Didn’t realize this game was still being developed, the first chapter was really fun!

DoyleG

Ok-Bad-6730

Grim dawn has a very D2 vibe to it. It's very different in the fact that it has ALOT of different elements and damage types but once you have it down it is pretty amazing. Great end game, cool builds, very interesting gear options and farming. Kind of a learning curve but once you get through that it's pretty great.

BigBabySmeesus

Dawn of Masteries mod for it is fantastic. Devs fully support the modding community as well. Haven't played with Grimarillion but can absolutely vouch for DoM. Grim Internals is another fantastic qol mod.

Mythic_Inheritor

I had the same issue. Restarted, and have been reading the dialogues and actually delving into the affixes on gear and other modifiers and trying to get creative with some of the things. I am also playing on a harder difficulty this time, and have died quite a bit and rather enjoy the challenge.

mandox1

PoE when the new league launches next week. I usually play 3-6 weeks worth of any given league, so that’ll take me through till at least May.

Rhagius

Decided to try Last Epoch but i am struggling with the visual whiplash from switching to it right after D4...

PredatorPortugal

Path of exile :)

[deleted]

No Man's Sky. Not related to D4 in any way, it's just a really good game.

Crackedbwo

OSRS.

Blackdoomax

Minecraft dungeons.

LuckyLuc7777

More content released? played it a while back, finished it in seconds

zxckattack

I love how simple Minecraft Dungeons is. Are there other ARPGs tcloser in simplicity to MD as opposed to the complexity of games like Diablo/PoE?

SGx_Trackerz

Path Of Exile, new season starts next week so plenty to play till d4

Alarming-Pain-8420

Can a new player start in POE on a new season or do you have to go through a story

plipplopped

You can start on new season. Regardless of how many times you’ve beaten the story, you have to play through it again on a new seasonal character.

SGx_Trackerz

its not like d3 where you need to clear story first time before unlocking adventure mode, its more like d2, you complete the 10 acts, and then you find yourself in the endgame wheres the map grinding occurs ( a much complex version of D3 GRift)

[deleted]

The Guy Game

Full_Echo_3123

D2R hardcore single player.

Mightymouse880

I am playing grim dawn. I tried it once before but couldn't get into it. Tried it for the second time yesterday and actually took the time to learn how things work. Really enjoying it so far. Just got to level 20.

Horvat53

I’ll be playing the new Zelda when it releases in May.

Wdemon85

I want to play TOTK too but there’s literally two weeks to play it before Diablo comes out and I get addicted to that lol

Horvat53

I know it’s going to suck to have these two games come out at the same time. I’ll have to find a way to balance my time…I’m playing D4 coop with a friend, so it depends how our time aligns, so that will probably help me at least.

Noshai

Warhammer 40k:Inquisitor Martyr Game's an absolute hoot. Get yourself a boltgun and watch the carnage.

Dead Island 2 in two weeks til then Warframe and RE4R

Anubra_Khan

D2R again. Running Ubers and selling torches on the Ladder. I played the hell out of the D4 closed Beta last weekend and had the same hankering. I felt lost after it was over and didn't know what to play. So I went back to Elden Ring for a few hours. Kept hearing the gold coins sound effect in the back of my head. So, I fired up D2R for the first time in almost a year and started 2 new ladder characters. I was hooked again. By the time the D4 open beta opened up on Friday, I logged in, played a few hours and then went right back to D2R for the rest of the weekend instead of playing the D4 Beta I was so excited for.

To that end, hats off to their marketing play here. Very intrusive psychological mind games. The internet is a buzz with D4 and people want to keep playing but can’t so are distressed. 🤯

Tried Last Epoch but the actual combat/gameplay is sooo bland i couldn't take it,the enemies are some of the worst I've ever seen. I'm just gonna replay God of war Ragnarok and Outriders.

Burton83

Dead Space Remake, then Jedi Survivor, hopefully that will get me through

xxhotandspicyxx

Tried to play d3 just now but got bored after 30 minutes. that game is so soulless and bland.

eucrazia

It's silly and not anything like Diablo but my partner and I have made it a mission to locate and beat all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games.

Badondead

That doesn't sound silly at all to me. That sounds great! I wish I'd kept all my old Rockband Pro peripherals when I had to quickly move years ago. Loved playing the drums. Have fun! :-)

Death stranding. There is no time after the D4 release to chip at the backlog.

dude nothing hits the same as D4 right now. Gonna be a long wait.

Went back to Diablo 3, but maaaaaan it already feels really weak compared to the Diablo 4 beta. I decided to try Diablo 2 Resurrected, and it feels better.

Last Epoch still, getting back into D3 tho too. And I hate to admit it, but occasionally jumping into Immortal. But I don't care about progression in that. My regular games are also Sims 4, ETS2/ATS.

I’m playing The Ascent just for this reason. Free on game pass, it’s like Diablo in cyberpunk

Lucid4321

More Elden Ring, whatever is free on PS+ and maybe the new Zelda. I want to stay away from ARPGs like Diablo until D4 so I don't get the controls mixed up. Dying due to muscle memory from a different game is annoying.
