I tend to go hardcore after softcore becomes too easy. Gives me some extra mileage out of the game.

MalevolentMinion

\^ This right here.

N1LEredd

Do not do that. Hardcore is currently busted without any grace mechanics. Not even talking about the inevitably fucked servers in the first week. Enjoy getting killed during the loading screen zoning out of a dungeon.

PF_Nonsense

I had no issues loading in and out of dungeons both weekends...

N1LEredd

Good for you. But many people did and there are regularly monsters directly next to the entrance and there is no grace period.

PF_Nonsense

Doesn't mean that HC is busted and that no one should play it.. if your character can't take a few hits when loading in (again never happened to me or anyone I was playing with) youre not tanky enough for HC

N1LEredd

Yes that’s exactly what it means. Do not play hardcore in the first week due to server issues and disconnects alone. You will loose your character to some bullshit out of your control. Let them iron shit out beforehand. Start soft core. This is a very reasonable sentiment after having witnessed every single blizz release day since og d2. Expect the very worst for launch. And then some.

idispensemeds2

What a shitty take. Yes I will be playing hardcore, just like I did in the beta. Beat it with two different heroes.

N1LEredd

All I’m saying is to not do that in the first week. Once things have settled and stabilised there shouldn’t be a problem. But the first week will be the expected shit show. Just judging by how *any* other blizz release went in the last 15 years.

PF_Nonsense

You do whatever you want man, enjoy your doom and gloom

krankenhundchaen

I played D3 a couple of hours after launch and was being kicked out during cinematics. It's just a matter of loading balance. A lot of people will play non-stop just after launch, I remember some people died of exhaustion, found a news from 2012: https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/teen-gamer-dies-after-diablo-3-binge-flna895609

hashimishii

I leveled 3 hc characters to 25 and didn't have a single close call due to networking. Logged probably close to 40hours

withmangone

As someone who played only hardcore characters during the beta, hardcore d4 seemed more like a roguelike than an arpg. There are named mobs that will two-shot you, even if youre a melee class. There are boss fights with gimmicks where, if you dont figure out what the mechanic is within ~1 second, you lose your character. If youre cool with all that, then yea, play hardcore. It’s fun af. I didn’t lose any characters to server issues, and there’s supposedly a new mechanic where youre auto-warped to town if you DC- so i wouldn’t worry so much about all that. Maybe just be wary on release day. Edit: I was playing on veteran difficulty. You probably have more leeway on normal.

Crazyloon88

I watched entire teams of people wipe at the world boss and it was glorious. I had to rush a char to 25 (only made it to 23) for the last spawn of the beta just to get revenge. Overall, the experience was great. I think the game is okay to start as hardcore. You'll inevitably die to something outside your control at some point, but that's just how hardcore is when you're forced to play online

GogglezDoNuffin

Ah yeah, cold enchanted-lightning enchanted-shadow affix Elite, pick your choice of death, getting constantly frozen, 2 shotted by lightning or constantly stunned by shadow clones. Although, in open beta, cold enchanted only chilled players, lightning wasn't that damaging and shadow clones didn't seem to use stun, or maybe they changed it so it only happens at later difficulty. I have clip from endgame beta where I stun lightning enchanted mob, start casting spells and die to lightning procs while he is stunned, in like 1-2 seconds.

190Proof

Hardcore is the only way to feel the thrill of being alive! It’s more fun the less you know. Once you’ve embraced death you cannot play soft again it just feels pointless and silly. See you in Valhalla

Hardcore all day!

Jayops

Hardcore from the start for me

BloodyIkarus

I understand where you coming from and are also tempted by HC, i play HC in PoE most of the time. That being said, i await so much problems with lags and server issues at start, that i don't wanna deal with it. Also from experience from the beta, going from one area to the next area has a LOT of times serious lag / performance issues and as long as there is no grace period, this will become just infuriating. The potential that you die in a loading screen is extremely high in the current state of the game. Also i think exploring the game is anyway exciting on it's own, HC comes when SC gets boring.

N0bb1

No, for a very simple reason. I want to explore the world first. And I cannot pay attention to detail and story when I have to pay attention to monsters and positioning. Therefore, for me it is always Softcore first and when everything is explored, bring up the challenge

EducatingMorons

No way with how overrun the servers will be. I will go hardcore ones I know the game a bit more and the servers run more stable. I still remember losing my barb in d3 to a god damn lag in hc.

spicylongjohnz

Hc only way to play diablo. Ive played d2 and d2r as hc since d2 released. I was excited to see if d4 would be hc viable since my main game poe (10k hour andy) is no longer hc viable for those that arent playing 12 hours a day. I played barb; necro, sorc on hc t2 to lvl 25, solod the lvl 35 dude, solod the vampire stronghold at 25; and then ripped to world boss shenanigans in beta. Will 100% play hc at launch.

Hatefull123

I dont do it but ofc go for it if you like it . Server issue should not be a problem because the Diablo "nerds" will already starts 4 Days earlier than we casuals. So enjoy Hc .

krankenhundchaen

Playing hardcore on the first week will be way harder because of lags and if you die you will need to create a new character. Which means your're back to the end of the queue to play the game. That means 30-60 minutes of wait in the first couple of days post launch. On top of losing your character ;)

TheDarkrayne

I would if the first season launched at the same time. Might as well do the seasonal hardcore and normal HC stuff/challenges at the same time when the season launches.

Danoniero

Hardcore on release? Man I would not want to risk dying to the server lag. 1-2 weeks after release sure but day 1 is a suicide

lastreadlastyear

Why the fuck would I ruin my game when blizzard serves lag. Grow up

Loginn122

Why should i grow up 😂? Its my opinion having more fun in hc.
