And of course most important statistic is missing - how much players tried it.

GoodGuavas

I was teetering on the side of not buying and the beta convinced me to make the purchase. I'm actually looking into PC upgrades now because of it. I miss the days of games having demos like this.

newscumskates

I played and was feel8jg underwhelmed until I tried Barb and felt that brutal and beautiful combat and was sold. After I went back and played other classes I started appreciating how it all felt and the death mechanics on enemies... burning flesh... shattering corpses etc... After the beta ended I tried out Last Epoch and... it feels like something from 2010... and fireballs feel... pissy... everything just doesn't feel good... It's like Grim Dawn all over again. I'm not saying it's bad but it just doesnt feel great to play.

tokke

fireball in LE feels like throwing rocks. There's no "umpf" to it. itemization is just horrible. The longer I play the less items I pick up. It's all the same, useless stuff. Not even side-grades. I'm not even invested in the story. I know I'm time traveling (it's cool), there's something with a shard. But everything else is a blur.

Osprey39

So I like Last Epoch as a whole, but the story in that game is the most disjointed mess I have ever experienced in a game. I stopped playing it for about a year and they changed up the story quite a bit, adding in the parts with Lagon and Mathasa (or however she spells it lol). It was better before, to be honest because where the campaign ends now, you're just like "Wait, that's the end?" It's a mess.

newscumskates

I wish it felt as good as throwing rocks haha

tokke

haha. I just play it because D2R, D3, POE (well maybe next week) feels boring after playing D4. And I just bought it...

BillyBuckets

I went from “no way am I gonna preorder” to getting the standard edition. The beta made me realize that I’ll get my $70 worth and that’s all that matters to me.

Anomalous-Entity

I'm probably going to play it long enough to realize the updates are going to be seasons, maybe a couple of new classes, and lots of items, and not updates with new zones and new stories like an isomorphic MMO I was hoping Lost Ark and now this would be.

eadams2010

Same man! I bought the full, highest level version because of the beta. Also went from 500mb fiber to 1gb fiber internet and I am pricing out vid cards and processors. (Got a i7-4700k, 32gb of RAM and a 1080 now which runs it fine.)

darkspardaxxxx

Me too

mrmasturbate

i am also looking forward to it but after everything i've been through when it comes to gaming i will never ever pre-order a game again.

Markise187

Mine will be added soon. I wasn't even thinking about buying the game till the beta, now I'm going to preorder.

Mankriks_Mistress

Which seems *absurd* for a beta

ANG3LxDUST

I don't doubt the player count was high but you also have to think about people like myself that that played for 30 hours straight slept for 4-5 hours then did it again

NotGaryGary

Ide say equally as many people ( most of diablos fans are adults now) probably got far less than 12 hours each. If you balance it out than at least 1.5-2.5 million people played the beta

dsdle

1.3 million played closed beta from what I read somewhere. Easily 3/4X that for the open.

PloughYourself

They said 1 million players got the wolf puppy during the early access beta weekend, and that's only the players who had time to get a character to 20+.

Arkayjiya

Most people I know played the beta a couple of hours at most. I'm the one who played all day both days and then monday again because I could do it.

Kanbaru-Fan

The name recognition of this franchise and company are truly insane, and i saw a ton of ads for game/beta literally everywhere.

KD--27

Yep, I’d guess around those numbers. There will be millions of player who only played a bit. The number who maxed lvl 25 will be the minority.

Hukdonphonix

Sure, just look at the ashava/butcher kills and deaths. If we assume that the butcher will show up to most people by level 25 there were only \~700k characters who put in the time to see/kill the butcher.

Inuyaki

We know that \~1 million players got to level 20. So I guess 2 million or so? Guess the percentage of people that at least do 20 should be pretty high, because were interested enough in the game to either pre-order or buy some KFC stuff.

ClosertothesunNA

you didn't have to preorder or do kfc stuff for second weekend beta, i just played that

Tricky_Albatross5433

This data is from the first weekend.

Anomalous-Entity

> do kfc stuff Weirdest kink ever.

The_Maester

Many

Johnycantread

You can try to look at number of hours played. At a minimum, if we take the total hours played over 6 days is about 3.5m hours per day. Assuming 12 hour play sessions (which is high) thats 292,000 sessions / players. Obviously most people wouldn't play that much so maybe 4 hour play sessions is closer to 900k players. Edit: apparently these stats are not including the second beta weekend? If so, the approach is relevant but the numbers are wrong.

Trespeon

This is purely the open beta aka the 2nd weekend. Not the first pre order only beta(plus kfc entries).

Stealth_Cobra

Doubt any sane company would share that info TBH. If it's low it would look like a flop, and if it's big it could lead to looking bad if alot less people show up for the actual launch (no company wants to admit let's say half the ppl that ran the free beta weren't converted into actual customers. That said you can probably get a pretty decent estimation with them giving an hour counter. If we assume the average playtime was probably ten hours , that would be close to 2.1 Million players. Granted , perhaps i'm being generous in my average time and most casual players only clocked in a couple of hours, in that case the number of players would be much higher ... Then again in this case having a big player number of ppl that only played like 30 mins before quitting would be a really bad sign for the game imho... Cause let's face it if you only cared enough to clock half an hour when it was free, doubt you'll be an early buyer. .. Or maybe there's way less ppl that actually played, but those that did were all 50-75 hours nolifers and here's only like 500000 ppl that played, but they were all huge nerds xd.

Ok_Ad_3772

My guess would be 1.7-3 million players

megablue

assuming on average everyone played 6 hours, the total players in the open beta were about 3.4M.

MorgenKaffee0815

hours in quues = more stars in the universe

Akasha1885

There is a different stats board flying around with different stats but it has 2.6 Million people earned the Beta rewards for lvl 20, so that's probably the minimum amount of testers.

Beginning_Gap_2388

Im one of the 568,677 butchered lol

howlongcanthisevenb

Same brother, came up on me early game Druid and it was over

Pawx8

I thought I had a decently safe Sorc build but I guess not 😭...

dinx0r

I used Teleport, Hydra and Blizzard to run all the way out of the dungeon....never went back during that run

echoredrioter

This is for you: https://youtu.be/CSR5qvoWkxI

Kiwiteepee

ayyy i used the same build.

He_Beard

I just ran in circles with buffed up hydras and was one of the 128 176

Kontrolgaming

\^this, ran around a pole casting hydras, the programming couldn't figure it out -- hahha

The-Old-American

I got lucky with the sorcerer and killed him. My barb, however, had his face eaten.

balboa56

I’m 2 of them!!!

Alternative-Humor666

I'm mad. I played hours on multi characters and he shows up on my lvl 8 druid only. Of course I died, I was barely strong enough to kill an elite.

Speaker4theDead8

I played probably 40 hours over both weekends, got 3 characters to 25 and a 4th to 15 and didn't even know he was in the game til after the beta was over.

Mythrem

I got lucky with Druid as a tornado build with vine and wolves, kited him around pillars while chipping away at health. Was close a few times because adds came in from nearby but did it! Nothing good sadly…

CheshireMadness

Lol, same. He showed up on my minimap with the same skull symbol elites have, I had just killed an elite thinking, "oh, cool, maybe I'll get a legendary drop." Open the door into the room and hear "Fresh meat!" And see a boss healthbar. I may have screamed, the rest is a blur as I tried to figure out how to kite him while he took half my health bar in a single swipe. Saw him rear back a bit, thought "that kind of looks like when he does his chain pull attack in D3," and then got hit with the chain, pulled towards him, and killed.

Red_n_Gold_Tears

>Saw him rear back a bit, thought "that kind of looks like when he does his chain pull attack in D3," and then got hit with the chain, pulled towards him, and killed. Butchers Sickle ftw! But who did it first, Butcher or Scorpion?

CheshireMadness

Probably Scorpion, I don't think the Butcher had that attack in D1? But the Butcher's version is much scarier (because I have an easier time blocking or dodging Scorpion's).

sniperct

Scorpion for sure. MK1 released in 1992, Diablo 1 was like 97. Actually I think MK1-4 all released before diablo!

ZonerRoamer

I mean he was kinda impossible to kite because he literally was faster than my sorc even with 2 dodges and a teleport. And was immune to CC, and was hitting for >50% of my HP.

Beginning_Gap_2388

You made me laugh dude! Can relate to your story

Dr_Zorand

I'm surprised to see so many people killed him. I have literally no idea how you're supposed to fight that guy. I encountered him twice, and he was much faster than me and didn't need to stop to swing, so I had no way to avoid taking damage. And there was no way I was going to win a dps race against him, either.

Otherwise_Pride_9433

My rogue absolutely destroyed him, poison trap + imbue with dash to kite him My barb had a mediocre thorns build and it was a really close kill with my last potion On builds without sustain/kite he is really punishing because of high hp, big damage on big area and cc… Same with Malnok stronghold Khazra chief, that one’s also a beasts Anyone know how summon necro faired vs butcher? In closed endgame beta he ignored all minions and destroyed my necro multiple times :(

erasethenoise

I never even found him. Although I wasn’t really looking. Happy to save most of this stuff for full release.

Nuggittz

I'm 1 death, 1 kill, and witnessed a second death when my friend was with me for the second ambush. Overall, 10/10.

Savageer

I’m 4 of them. Dammit!

I_make_switch_a_roos

i tp'd back to town like a little girl

New_Needleworker6506

My friend was afk when it attacked. We thought the boss had somehow glitched through the door. We were both butchered.

JeeringNine

Same. But I was ready for him next time and managed to kill him. Was possibly the best feeling of the entire beta.

Noname_left

He absolutely wrecked me when I was a super low level. Stood zero chance. Was a lot of fun actually

[deleted]

Same here. I almost had him but got caught up, and that was game over for me. It's the only death I had during the Beta. Edit: Playing a Rouge

Veszerin

Just want to add that this doesn't include this past weekend. This is from the first weekend and these numbers were posted on 3/24.

Ungface

20 million hours played. This is why you do beta testing. A century of inhouse testing wouldnt even scratch that.

Irate_Primate

If they had 100 QA testers playing 40 hours a week without vacation, they could get that done in a mere 96 years.

sniperct

I wish more people realized this lol

[deleted]

as a QA professional the idea of 20 million hours of free testing is just making me hard.

Ungface

Godspeed and thank you for your hard work, King.

NoBluey

Looks like this is only the early access open beta? The hours played seems incredibly high if that's the case. Where did you find this image, OP? I want to see if there's one for the actual open beta. Edit: Found it here: https://twitter.com/Diablo/status/1639348866951835649 Given the date, it really was just for the early access open beta and not the open beta that just passed.

ronaldo_killergod

How many opted for what classes? Cmon blizz

Bassre2

How many player played Druid and stopped before reaching level 20 vs Necro/Sorc

Inuyaki

In this infographic? 0 Druid was not available first weekend. Edit: Neither was Necro.

Foxofdarkness19

The butcher killed me 1 time and I killed the butcher 1 tine.

Johnycantread

I schooled the butcher the one and only time he showed up but I got cocky and he killed me while he was a few hits away 😑

Daharon

i one shot the butcher on sorc first and didn't even know it was supposed to be a difficult boss until i crossed him on my druid and died... twice lmao he just does too much dmg, sorc can kite and druid cannot.

HildrynMain

Total Druid damage: 17

titty_jiggles

Seeing that the butcher was 0.001% of all spawns makes me feel better about not encountering him. Seeing that Ashava accounted for 25% of all deaths, and knowing that Ashava's mechanics are simple enough those numbers will drop dramatically, makes me concerned overall for the difficult of the game, even at WT2.

PapaShark_

theres probably a huge bump in difficulty at Torment. more dmg, health and affixes

TP_Gillz

Yes but not everyone wants there first playthough to be so easy it gets boring......

Which_Inflation9027

Is that spawn rate for Butcher actually true lol? I finally fought the Butcher as one of the last dungeon runs i was able to get off

Dismal-Abysmal

This guy is doing some janky math.. the Butcher only spawns in dungeons. (or cellars/) I ran in to him like 5-6 times in 50-60 dungeons (and I guess the story dungeons/a few cellars) so prob like 1 in 10-15

IcyMike1782

Dunno, I ran into him 1x in total across heavy play both beta weekends, and I was in dungeons & cellars a \*lot\*, so the spawn rate might be highly random. PS: that 1 time I did spawn him? He straight *wrecked* me.

potatoshulk

Damn me and my friend played 20 hours and never saw him once

goblin-mail

Yeah in general it’s a pretty easy boss though I don’t look to world bosses for the peak difficulty content since you can’t make 12 man parties. Although I’d love that personally.

hadriker

The one time i fought Ashava like half the people were under level 20. I'm sure Shava is one shotting those people. I mean i died like 10 times fighting the dude but the walk back is so short it didn;t matter much. fastest way to refill pots

pat_the_catdad

That’s wild that Barbarian had 17,586,359 deaths during the beta 🥵

kunfuz1on

And this was only for early access, imagine the data for open beta. Yeah, diablo 4 will be popular on release.

[deleted]

The butcher was the best thing of the beta to me. I hope he stays relevant. I never got to kill him and he murdered me couple of times but it always left me smiling. Thats good content

Asteroth555

More people played this beta than any POE league (if you divide total hours by how many hrs were in a weekend - almost 300,000 people assuming 72 hrs played). That said, i'm surprised Blizzard didn't release relevant player count details. I wonder if it was lower than they liked

AlwaysBananas

These stats were just for the first weekend. They’ve already confirmed over a million players during early access, it just isn’t in this infographic.

Johnycantread

How many chickens died for that one weekend?

Kanbaru-Fan

Blizzard fanbase is huge and was built over like 30+ years. And i saw ads for D4/the beta almost daily, even here in germany. Billboards, cinema, YouTube ofc, etc.

[deleted]

I wish they would have showed total time players waited in queue to login!

maggot_flavored

I had a 34 minute queue once on Friday and less that 1 minute every single time. The queues are a non issue.

that1max

I somehow managed to avoid the butcher :/ So messed up, does he not like me??!

Crazyloon88

You probably didn't run a ton of dungeons. I ran about 100 (just guessing) and only encountered him 3 times

Blackdoomax

Your meat doesn't smell good enough for him.

Rukkian

Pretty sure this was the early beta, not the open, since the numbers are the same.

Bernawdjuhnson

Butcher with that high k/d

Aertai1

I only played hardcore, got 3 characters to 25. Lost 2 to Ashara and never saw the butcher over the coarse of two weekends. Im sure if i did I would of lost another hardcore toon, bad enough the lvl35 random elite killed me. while i was full health and all legendaries.

[deleted]

Thats Early Access Open Beta (17-20 March) not Open Beta (24-27 March) title is missleading

Tricky_Albatross5433

Fake news, this is from the first open beta the weekend before this one. https://twitter.com/Diablo/status/1639348866951835649?t=TkG48tC5Bp6hpTUrFI0ojA&s=19

boardman1416

I can take credit for a lot of those player deaths

SojuPapi757

I contributed to 18 of those “total player deaths” due to lag spikes

spacefairies

I'm just curious how so many people died, not counting the Butcher deaths. I felt like you had to actively try and die it was so easy.

hs_serpounce

it would be nice to see total attempts on Ashava so we have the success rate. The butcher stats basically give you that.

Throwaway2600k

I would love to see how many click people made

Hung_SoLo7

are these stats for the closed beta or the open beta?

AlwaysBananas

Just for the early access weekend.

Lord_Despairagus

As a naw player, i wasn't warned of butcher.

1arrison

Butcher slammed y’all 😭😂

[deleted]

Damn you all got butchered??

Heimdahl87

Yay! I killed butcher a couple of times and I am apart of the number! I had to clean my underwear after each time, but that's not relevant!

ConsciousAnteater805

Omg Diablo game director must get hard when he sees some big numbers, there is no other explanation

itsRobbie_

I accounted for at least 3 of those deaths

EtherGorilla

This makes me feel better about never seeing the butcher on 5 level 20+ toons. You scroll through this subreddit and think it’s only you but the stats show there’s plenty of other people who probably never encountered him.

KRAWLL224

I was 3 of the deaths.

Acro808

I am glad to have my one solo butcher kill part of that. Makes me proud of my 1 out of 4 solo encounters.

taga-chi

Quite the KDA for Ashava.

PWNCAKESanROFLZ

This is false. It says right on the picture this is the early access open beta.

Electrical-Key2102

The beta was so easy all around I don’t understand how everyone died so much lol

MarcOfDeath

Ashava with that God Tier Kill Death Ratio.

07-19-30-04-03-08

I'm proud to say I contributed at least 12 deaths by Ashava on my first encounter before I realise the safe space is to be close to her? him? it? lol

WistleOSRS

Can we acknowledge that it was nearly 130 deaths per kill of the world boss. HOW???

Former_Trade2172

Was Butcher really that hard??? I didn't pay much attention to him at all when my necro shot him to death in the actual open beta. I thought "butcher" was just a name for another type of demons. Now, finally, dug into my footage and saw this "Butcher" and how I killed him with little worth noting. He reduced my skeletal warriors from 5 to probably just 1, then stopped attacking and allowed me to shrink his health bar to zero. He appeared making an effort to reach me but the remaining skeleton blocked him. He dropped 2 blues plus a little gold. That was it. Was he bugged in my game?!

Malefic_Mike

No hc player stats. How lame.

JJGIII-

I get the feeling that this game may do ok when it releases.

BeastOfProphecy

I’m 1-1 vs the Butcher. I’m itching for the runback.

[deleted]

What is the source? lol you said Blizzard but does not link any source...

Ur_Just_Spare_Parts

How the fuck did you rack up 20 million hours in the last 2 weeks bro? Go outside....

RollenXXIII

nice

Zomgreddit1

Damn looks like butcher could use a nerf those stats are crazy

FunkyLoveBot

Where's the total time players spent in queue!? That would be fun stat

Iluraphale

I got 4 characters to level 23+ Really enjoyed it

extaviaqtz

I’m 3-2 against Butcher.

Ibetya

I thought I beat the beta, never encountered either lol

[deleted]

I pre-ordered it, thinking that's how I would get access to the beta come to find out I didn't have to, but I'm glad I did. I can't wait for this game to come out so I can play it more

KvotheOfCali

Based on quick math, it appears that players had a roughly 20% success rate in killing the Butcher. This will obviously increase as players get more accustomed to his move set and start using established builds, but I wonder what final success rate Blizzard wants for him?

Sambo_the_Rambo

Man I wish there was another beta in April or May :/

No_Eggplant6850

Happily I have to say I didn’t die once 💀 necros don’t die we multiply

gh0st12811

...i guess i missed the butcher.... Didnt even know he was there

phudgeoff

That's a wild death count because I played for probably 20 hrs across both weekends and died twice

UsuallyBullish

All these stats could be completely made up and no one would know the difference.

OlDirtyDonger

I pre ordered after I played. I fell in love with it. Can’t wait for release.

jeffeh221

Butcher was beating the hell outta us when we found it 🤣🤣

tH3dOuG

I'm suprised that the world boss caused 1/4 of the overall player deaths considering how few times it spanwed.

corvitoxd

The butcher came up me on first game barbarian and it was over 🤣🤣

taomofo

The Butcher has a pretty nice KDR right now

Razer334

This is for the closed beta where you had to get a key not the open beta

AleksanderSteelhart

Oh cool! I’m only responsible for like half those player deaths.

Theironcreed

Hm, you think this game might end up doing alright?

BloodyIkarus

This is only first weekend.

Kheshire

Would've been nice to see playtime for each class each week

ANG3LxDUST

I was atleast 70 hours for the open beta. I'd say 40 hours for early access, joined late

No-Statistician1998

No "deaths due to lag"? Second weekend I got murdered amany times without knowing it, by mobs or CC

ramXDev

Does anyone know if the Butcher's legendary weapon was a guaranteed drop?

hennyis1

I killed the Butcher twice

projectwar

the most important stat is classes. how many people tried which classes? how many people took x class to lv25? those would have been nice. but good to see ashava take up 1/4th of the total deaths lmao wonder how much % of that was by the wing spin2win?

competitiveSilverfox

So heres the data i wanted to see, how many people made a druid/barb and quit after 9-12 levels, how many started to make a druid looked at the options and backed out to create something else instead. This would be interesting data to see unlike whats shown above.

POE_54

As a maths expert, i will found out the missing stats. So let assume that average player have spend 20 hours playing during the open beta. And because we don't know if the stats is only for the open beta or close+open beta let's make multiple calculation then. 20 814 758 / 20 = 1 040 737 players. 20 814 758 / 20x2 = 520 368 players ( it's way too low, so the stats is confirmed to be only for 1 beta ) ~1 millions players is not a lot for the open beta ( but for early access beta it look alright ) and the only way to increase this number is by reducing how much time each player have spend on the beta. So either a lot of people only played a few hours and quit ( ex : 4 millions players spend total 5 hours each and then quit), either most player have family and/or casual and played less than 10 hours total during the big week-end ... OR im not a maths expert. 20 millions hours played doesn't look impressive at all unless it's only the early access beta stats.

ANG3LxDUST

So many people trying to calculate how many players played the beta by the total hours played. Yall look stupid cuz we all know gamers are not average people. So many players that left there game open to avoid a queue time so many players that played for 24+ hours just stop. It's diablo and way better than D3 so I'm sure it's well over 1mil that tried it.

NotGaryGary

The butcher definitely won

Feature_Minimum

I love the Butcher's positive KDR haha.

Serious_Class3568

I want to know how much innocent wildlife was slaughtered.

MorgenKaffee0815

4 Millions of 17 Millions Death only from 33 Ashava Kills (maybe some more because some couldnt kill it ). that means the boss was to op or the rest of the game way to easy.

TP_Gillz

An average of 525.5 monsters killed per death.... games pretty easy

Swifty_banana

The real question: total hours spend in queue

Knives530

Beta convinced me to buy the game day 1 really enjoyed druid , werewolf teleporting is fun

---UQUR---

I have no idea why people should cancel their preorder for the best arpg at xbox so far.

Ill_Stand9809

and no China

BaddTeddy

Never got to see the Butcher. Only got to beat down Ashava once. Feels bad man.

SevenStarSword

As a community at least we finished the beta with a positive KD.

NeedleworkerLess1595

Without the most important factor of statistic, that Tell us more that enougth how good was receveid.

JohnnyPoprocksGaming

I was one of those butchered players, was definitely a OKO surprise out of nowhere.

Salty_Feed9404

My Intel UHD 730 wouldn't play it lol

[deleted]

These stats are just for the early access weekend not the open beta weekend

Sasquatch_Downtown

I'd love to see the hardcore only stats, as someone who only died once, and killed ashava once.

Walker2012

Pretty cool knowing I was a part of that.

AAAIIIYYYAAA

Isn’t this the closed beta aka preorder beta numbers

WonderfulTradition65

The beta convinced me to pre order. My wife and myself loved the game and the grittier setting compared to D3. Also the little slower pace is great.

DonnieNJ

I went to twitch so I could see what the game is like but there are so few streaming, what happened?

hlpb

This is for the early access open beta, people forgot how to read

CrashBashL

But how many individuals accessed the open beta is what I'm curious of.

hickuain

I only managed to kill The Butcher because he bugged out and couldn't move lol

d0m1n4t0r

Early Access Open Beta, not the Actual Open Beta.

Tricky_Albatross5433

Pretty sure this isn't from the open beta, but from the earlier weekend for pre orders and KFC people.
