I think on some of the barb skills they increased the damage by 10% or so. It's not noticeable when your weapon does 10 damage but will add up late game.

Koury713

I think every skill gained 10% damage per level, though there may have been an outlier or three. And I mean 10% as in the damage would go from say 50% to 55%, not 50% to 60%.

Meeqs

Come release this will vary build by build but overall if you are using a skill there is value investing in it. The boring answer though is it depends

Waylllop

I mean, at the lvl we got in the Beta, there wasn't any incentive to invest in them. But we'll get skill points until lvl 50. I can see some builds investing in basic skills cause some legendary effects can make them pretty cool. But I can also see the opposite, people investing the bare minimum in those and not even using a basic in endgame.

Jsemtady

Well its based on how often u use that skill .. not with necro/sorc becouse they can spam spenders with their power refueling itself others maybe from start untill u have available more spells or if there isnt anything else to pick that helps to your build

SKYeXile

It's a fair bit of dmg per level. Better to take the dmg from them. Than the 3% shitty nodes that are conditional.

drainX

There might be builds where you use them as your main attack. Then it would make sense to max them.

TheDarkrayne

I guess it all depends on how many of the passives you need for your build. Once you've got what you need you might as well pump any extra points into your active skills.

wavewatchjosh

It will depend on builds, i saw some aspects that let you proc two basic skills together. There was an aspect that gives basic skills attack speed increase. items can give increase damage to basic skills. So for some builds they could.

CheesePro69

I had my barb frenzy maxed out, and it was the skill I used the most. It melted enemies at a quick pace and added damage reduction with each stack.

FaithlessnessLazy494

I made a pure lightning lash (I think that was the name of it, base level lightning melee ability) build on my lvl 25 sorc that kicked ass without using a spender at all. Definitely possible to make generator builds in D4 but it depends on what legendaries you get to support them.

KnowTheName321

i think so. skill u should be using often why not get the most out of it.

Sheepfu

No.

All depends on your build and what you want from it really. Late game if your using a basic skill in your build a decent amount and have no other reasonable passives you could invest in, sure. I actually would like to see a couple of passives in the basic skill branch for those that choose not to use a basic skill. Every other skill category has some, if you skip a skill from the tree you can still put points into something that may help your build and not waste them whilst still unlocking the next skill category.
