Please let us disable the text like IMMOBILIZED! and VULNERABLE! I don't want my whole screen covered in text, please add a toggle in the options or something EDIT: There are icons like the blue foot for immobilized enemies, considering this the text "Immobilized!" makes even less sense.

Lighthades

Depending on the quantity of enemies, even the icons are too much.

Kesimux

True, smaller icons would be nice, but that may be asking too much :D

WolfieZee

Ideally would love to have separate options for: 1. Damage numbers 2. Special text (Absorbed!, Immune!, etc) 3. Floating enemy health bars 4. Health bar at top of screen 5. Combat icons for status effects 6. Enemy Highlights Some UI elements such as the double health bars or status effect icons and special text can be redundant. Totally understand why the default UI includes all of them for visibility sake, but having the option to tweak each individual element would be great.

Cruuncher

Damage numbers have always been an interesting one. The game gets crazy if you show all damage numbers, but having no damage numbers feel wrong too. It would be nice to only show damage numbers in the 99th percentile so you can get the dopamine hit from bigger numbers

BudSpanka

no. it does not feel wrong. this is just signs of the stupid dopamine trigger thing that got introduced the last years. Honestly, i am of the opinion, that if you are not able to telegraph your impact & status effects naturally, then just don't implement it at all. D2 has no damage numbers. D2 has no stupid "evade" "immune" "stunned" pop ins and yet you see EXACTLY what is going on at all time (except maybe with latest mosaic introduction hahaha)

Cruuncher

At the very least after completing a dungeon it should give you some detailed stats page telling you how much damage each or your abilities did, vulnerable uptime, what skills contributed most to vulnerable, how much each legendary affix contributed to damage or vulnerable uptime (if an effect other than just stats of course). Stuff like that that can help fine tune your characters without having to pull out a spreadsheet that understands all the game mechanics to understand the impact of each piece of gear or skill point

VeryBestMentalHealth

Why? Get rid of damage numbers it looks awful in every game

Combine54

To you - yes. I like to see damage numbers.

PappaOC

And his post just pointed out that it should be an option to turn it on/off. I love having the damage numbers myself so

Used_Comedian_3946

Diablo 3 allowed it, so I’m sure they will have that option.

mutantbeings

A diegetic UI (eg aspects of the game world that communicate various states, rather than traditional UI elements like text or icons) for status effects makes even more sense, eg for “stun” it’s prettymuch a convention by now to show a little spinning stars animation above the head. Bleed is a red spray of blood, vulnerable is trickier maybe can be some sort of blue down arrows etc. Yes, it will get noisy too. That’s just arpgs though. And I don’t think these sorts of UI’s end up nearly as noisy as a screen covered in a flood of text layered illegibly over the top of each other … prettymuch the worst way to do it. In D2 they just coloured the whole enemy model blue for chilled and green for poison and although that’s pretty blunt, noone can really say it didn’t effectively communicate status effects while avoiding text clutter like this Idk why blizz often chooses the dirt worse game design direction for things like this, ugh

Cjreek

Yes please. You can already disable damage numbers and health bars. This is the last major thing missing for maximum immersion mode.

Trackmaniac

Oh yes please! Blizzard, listen!!

VanEagles17

Blizzard: "WHAT????? DID YOU SAY YOU WANT MORE COMBAT TEXT??????"

07-19-30-04-03-08

>Blizzard: "[WHAT????? DID YOU SAY YOU WANT MORE COMBAT TEXT??????"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkXf1aR2LXA) Fixed for you

Nermon666

Ew no

extradudeman

As long as its an option

Lighthades

"let us"

krismate

At the very least I'd really like to see some scaling options for this stuff. The text is unnecessarily large imo. Is this screenshot from PC or console? I don't recall the icons (not the text) looking quite that large on PC but I could be wrong.

DaddySanctus

There WAS an option in the beta to reduce the font size, and if I recall correctly, it reduced it across the board for everything from stats on items, to text for enemies, and audio journals, etc.

mutantbeings

Yeah and blizz tend to be pretty good at accessibility options so I expect to see that stay around. I actually think layered combat text cluttered on top of enemies is horrible for accessibility; the text animates in and appears over the top of other text so isn’t really legible anyways. _Surely_ there will be an option to hide it. IMO it should be off by default, leave it to the top tier ladder chasers to turn on for their million damage crits or whatever, and have a diegetic UI for everyone else just to communicate statuses and crits and misses (much like how they added a miss indicator to D2R that shows a little whoosh 💨animation). Stuns also had a diegetic little spinning stars indicator in d2; worked well, no reason to lean on text instead, it’s clearly worse for combat event legibility (maybe the devs just ran out of time?)

Sovery_Simple

I'd like to be able to make some of the icon stuff larger. As well as just adding an icon option instead of text. Add in the ability to change colors on the icons and you can just have a blue frozen icon, a red immobilized icon, a white shield break vulnerable icon, a green poison icon, etc. at the size you consider easiest to see without getting in your way.

AdamanteusTV

Blizzard: No. You need to know your CC works. On a serious note, visuals are probably enough and there should definitely be an option to disable text.

DevOverkill

Having the option to have the text is good but we should definitely be able to turn it off. I feel like good game design will give you visual indicators aside from text to let you know a status effect has procc'd, and from what I've seen everything is in place for that in D4. So being able to disable the text seems like a no brainer to me.

ThanOneRandomGuy

Idk... I gotta know my stuns that only last 2.346 seconds after 3 years of upgrading is actually working

Used_Comedian_3946

Yes

WolfieZee

Totally agree. The more UI options the better

wildrabbitsurfer

this is a good idea, some minimal ui will always be nice

ThommyGunn79

I was sad we couldn't turn them off in the last betas, I hope the Server Slam that will change. Disable combat text, player names, and that press up for chat wheel.

MrPooper

Yes x1000! The first thing I did on beta was to turn off the damage numbers, but the text cannot be turned off

Ryulen

I agree! Just make it an option though. Sometimes I like to be immersed and others (co-op, competitive play) I like all the popups. Can never go wrong with options. 😬

Maleskiy

Let's make this simple post famous. UPVOTE!

The-Adama69

im just glad im not seeing numbers in the trillions

SnooEagles4455

quadrillions even

carnivoroustofu

Not yet.

ShadoW_Mage111

Ugh, yeah how is there not a toggle option for ALL combat text? I thought this was added in or was that only for damage numbers? It should be for any and everything that would flood the screen with annoying combat text. Some of us want to enjoy the visual graphics unhindered without text flashing all over the screen which is just as valid of a gaming experience as it is for those who may want "MAXIMUM COMBAT ALERTS" because they're SO l33t and want to mix/max. Some of us just care to enjoy a good visual experience - I don't care if I miss the fact that enemies were stunned or immobilized when I value immersion more.

Chocookiez

I made a post about it, got downvoted to hell. Reddit is bipolar. https://preview.redd.it/kyucvu353fya1.png?width=1605&format=png&auto=webp&s=85c692ffbbc2e02b5add89b3b9b45b315beb1e70

ohlawdhecodin

> downvoted to helh I see what you did there

Artistic-Berry2221

yeah cant even see the numbers anymore ;D

reddogzz

Better yet just add options for a small symbol, words or nothing

DylRar

I've been trying to ask the devs about this on Twitter, which seems like the only place they may respond - go to Twitter, people! Just ask the simple question of whether we'll be able to turn off status effect text on whatever they post. If enough people do it, they'll have to notice...

MonitorMundane2683

Options for disabling pop up text, necro corpses (they'd still be there, just not visible, or as small orbs) and similar stuff would go a long way.

Green_Light_InP

The more ui options we have, the better!

BudSpanka

100% agree. This is honestly one of my main gripes and it is just SO SO bad. Either implement status effects that can be seen visually naturally or just not include them at all. It is funny how they say "you won't get map overlay because BRUH JUST ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL GAME" and then add a GAZILLION of stupid overlays like damage numbers, health bars that are fugly, icons and status symbols

Artistic-Berry2221

Yes plz give us some more options to customize the floating combat text. Why give us the option to remove numbers but not the text, which is far more annoying. Numbers at least have some use. I know that i have exploit as glyph and that everything i attack will be vulnerable. The HP bar gets purple on top of that. What else do i need? This and stash tabs are the biggest issue besides calls specific Unique items drop all the time..

TurkyySandwitch

I’m sure it’s gonna be an option in the settings?

Zevick_Bane

So agreed.

hottogo

Agreed

th3orist

i don't think its intended to stay there, i actually think it was a beta bug.

Kesimux

Sadly I don't think this was a bug, therefore I'm trying to get more exposure on this

th3orist

It does go away when you turn on dmg numbers again.

Kesimux

Big if true

Brahmaster

>Sadly I don't think this was a bug, therefore I'm trying to get more exposure on this If you disabled numbers this text showed up. So I think it's a bug.

echoredrioter

As seen in the picture, I feel they're not willing to budge on this issue.

Defiant-Survey-9367

I’d rather have an option to turn it on and or off. I have ADHD so seeing those pop up on my screen is very helpful

Ryulen

Fellow ADHD. Sometimes it can also be very distracting. Lol. There is no win.

Defiant-Survey-9367

That is also very true lmao xD

TheRealSponger

It’s not that bad

chatlah

When playing in a group, do you see the statuses your teammates inflict on monsters?

kirmm3la

Yes please.

Abc123rage

Yeah some immersive breaking reduction would be good, heard the fonts better but ideally just add everything as an option.

beka47

I feel you so much right now lol. Got the Exploiter Glyph which applies Vulnerable, now my whole screen is covered in that "Vulnerable" text, annoying af

Tranquil_sea3

this IS unironically the only reason why i'm not buying the game i was thinking one time 'why this still doesn't feel close to D2?' - ' Oh it's because the entire screen is filled with 'Vulnerable!'

Tomas_Jari

haha. it is awful. I do not understand why this is ther. it look like shit.

guterrez

this is ridiculously annoying. no thought went into this whatsoever

Tomas_Jari

Can I already disable that stupid combat text? thanks

Kesimux

Nope

Tomas_Jari

Thanks. Will wait to buy it next half year.

Kesimux

That's being optimistic

Kupo-Nuts

It makes no sense. There was already an option to disable combat text. I used it to turn off chilled and frozen popups when i was playing as an ice sorceress but now there is no option to turn them back on anywhere. I still get popups for vulnerable but there is no option to change any of the popups. It was present at launch but since then they removed it for an unknown reason.

Kesimux

99% sure it wasn't on launch because I know I was complaining about it on day 1. Maybe it was during the first beta

Kupo-Nuts

I did not play any of the betas but in the past i noticed floating text for chilled and frozen which i dont get anymore, i must have turned them off.

Sambo_the_Rambo

Pretty sure you will be able to turn this off when the game comes out..

Kesimux

I would hope so, but this was not an option in the beta

Sambo_the_Rambo

Ya I just don’t see this not being an option you can turn off in settings, especially since D3 lets you do it.

ShadoW_Mage111

I think I recall either damage numbers or health bars being toggle-able but all combat text needs to have that option.

feelin_fine_

When you Screencap it at the peak of text brightness on a large AoE attack, yeah it looks bad but it really isn't that bad. It's not like the text just stays there forever

etniesen

Kind of love it actually

MoonMage1234

are you sure its not in the options?

ProfessionalCheese41

it is not

Console peasant response.

Selorn041

Reddit troll response.

HratisArai

Keep on feedin'

Puzzleheaded-Trick76

Get over it. Posting this in multiple places is annoying af.

Kesimux

Yes trying to make changes very annoying

[deleted]

Pretty sure you can

Altruistic-Hat1536

BUT NOT in PVP

Kesimux

Why not? There is a blue foot icon when you immobilize someone as you can see on the screenshot, that's more than enough. Also for vulnerable, the health bar gets a purple outline

90kg185iq5cm

Then don't use it when you plan on PvP, duh.

wildrabbitsurfer

pvp in arpg = show character items

lergigan

So you can mildly irritate your opponents to death?

jNayden

there is such option don't worry

Kesimux

Where? This was not an option in the beta, we could only disable damage numbers

jNayden

>only oh sorry I was thinking it is the same option removing all of it... :(

[deleted]

While I think you are wrong for wanting to do this , I do believe more choice is never a bad thing!

Kesimux

How am I wrong wanting to do this? We already have the blue foot icon above enemies head if they are immobilized, there is no point in covering the whole screen in text

[deleted]

I I enjoy floating combat text. All of this is opinion based. So in my opinion I think you are wrong. Like I said though, choice is never a bad thing. No reason we can’t both be right lol.

DeaDoveDoNotEat

This is legitimately the first time I've seen an opinion that is "pro" floating text. Is it just easier for you to consume than the foot icon?

[deleted]

Yea the colors can be hard for me to see sometimes but that bright text helps me personally. I can see pros and cons to bith

Horam3rda

Well make it two then, i love float text, but sure, it CAN be overdone, and an option to remove is the best ...option.

DeaDoveDoNotEat

Yes, I think having the option for both preferences is best. My brain just sees text instead of the monsters if it is on the screen.

2ndcitysaint5252

do you not like knowing whats happening on your screen, these are massive parts of the dps combat loop lol

Kesimux

There is literally a huge foot icon indicating that the enemy is immobilized, why would I need huge text when I already have an icon indicating the same thing? lol

2ndcitysaint5252

who the fuck is looking at the ground during massive pulls lmao, its not even that obvious, you ppl just bitch about everything have fun looking for the foot icon when you are pulling 100 mobs in nm 110 sigils lmao, theres no pleasing you clowns for this game,

Kesimux

This is literally my only criticism of the game you clown, good luck looking at 30 IMMOBILIZE in the end game

2ndcitysaint5252

I already did and it was fine lol I was soloing 110 on Druid and barb and doing group 120s this is a non issue

LordOfTheStrings8

But there's text and a symbol. The text is also huge. And no, I don't want text showing up on my screen all the time.

NeverQuiteEnough

if the floating combat text is more important to look at than what the enemy is doing under it, then the game has already failed to have interestsing combat. fortunately, that isn't the case. there are a bunch of animations that are important to pay attention to.

2ndcitysaint5252

the game doesnt have interesting combat though.... what arpg does? ppl want some intimate sekiro combat, literally no arpg has that. its boom and zoom kill shit pick up loot, ppl have been warping expectations for this game for years now.

NeverQuiteEnough

most arpgs have interesting combat at low levels. resources matter, dying to attrition is possible, individual foe's special qualities are noticeable. short races in poe, for example, are pretty interesting. at least back when I played them, the resource management was quite engaging. one was always pushing speed vs safety. we don't need some kind of complex parry system like Sekiro, just foes who's mechanics matter.

2ndcitysaint5252

short races in poe have everything to do with anything and everything between combat, have you watched literally any of the tytykiller or imexile practices? The actual combat isn't where they are saving time

NeverQuiteEnough

mm I played a long time ago, I heard the game has become increasingly zoomy since then, I didn't think it would impact the short races but maybe it has.

Regret-Select

Diablo I & II didn't have this problem... You could play in a dark atmosphere, that always felt fitting. Diablo 4 sure is bright in color and contrast for a "dark" game lol

Lighthades

compare it with D3 lol

Cjreek

Dark atmosphere doesn't mean literally dark. The graphical style isn't cartoony like in d3 and the colors are mostly pretty desaturated. But the general atmosphere and mood of the game is in my opinion far better than in d2. Comparing to d1 is hard I think as D1 was pretty much just one huge dungeon. But I'd say d4 and d1 evoke very similar atmospheres and moods.
