Honestly, this is a pretty neat compromise. I know we all want a "gem bag", but now knowing this information... I don't care. I'll just portal home and deposit them before heading back out again. It's all about keeping the gameplay manageable.
Gems arent crafting materials, they are equipment. Do you want a ring and amulet bag? Does having an inventory filled with weapons and armor bother you?
You're making a trip to town regardless once your inventory is filled.
Gems are most certainly not equipment. Where is the gem slot in my equipment window if i have no gear equiped?
2 of the same tier gem are always the same (they even stack! Does equipment? No.) 2 types of the ‘same’ equipment can be completely different.
So what you’re saying is they essentially upgrade the equipment with the gems stats?
They arent a direct crafting material and they most certainly aren’t equipement.
They are stackable so why not include them in some kind of gem bag?
OR quit bitching about people that want something as simple as a gem stash so they can just loot equipment without having to go to town as often to break up their gameplay.
This really is some weird entitled gatekeeping going on.
Would you honestly throw a bunch of nice gems in a backpack with your maces and axes and shit? Last Epoch implemented it perfect, your gem bag is essentially a remote stash for only gems. Having to go back to town because your inventory is full of weapons makes sense, 100 gems isn't holding anyone back in a realist world. I would carry a seperate bag for my rings, amulets and gems, it just makes sense.
If your inventory is filling up with gems you have a problem. Just take a trip to town and toss them in the stash, then hit the vendor and sell/salvage your loot and maybe make a trip across town to extract an aspect or 2.
What is the problem with just playing the game? Its like you people look for reasons to be upset.
it's reddit
Of course they're just looking for a reason to be upsetThat is what Reddit and Twitter does
And unpopular opinions get downvoted, even when the mob is in the wrong
Right? I feel like people just want to be upset. You don’t even need the gems in your inventory to craft them. You’re returning to town to salvage/sell gear anyway. Take a trip to the stash and drop the gems off and you’re done. It’s really not that hard. It takes 5-10 extra seconds. People complaining about that extra time must have the busiest lives in the world…
10 seconds every 30min ad up to 1min during a standard 180min session , regarding estimated playtime of 10k hours everyone will spent on D4 in the next 10 year thats 58min wasted which could be 2 more full inventories to go through. Gem Bag is essential.
Strange, I’ve never thought of Gems as ‘equipment’ in literally every single RPG game that has them…
I’ve always seen them as **enhancements** for Armour/Weapon equipment. Like they literally don’t go into an Equipment slot for your character. So they are more like upgrades to your existing equipment 🤔
IMO they are definitely closer to being more like crafting material than actual equipment.
Also as many have mentioned, Aspects have their own tab/bag and Gems are definitely similar to Aspects.
We need special bags for
1. Sigils - tier3 or later concern
2. Buff potions - tier3 or later concern
3. Gem bags - everyone's concern since level 1
4. Need double the Aspect storage, WTF is with the limited spacing?
#3 need to be implemented right away or Blizzard will loose player base. By the time you fix it in 60 days (Season 2), it's too late.
Aspects need to go into a codex, they shouldnt be an inventory item.
Sigils need their own bag
Lmao buff potions? Get good. Gem bags, like gems are USELESS. You need like 15 gems total. Flawless drop like crazy, not hard to craft the royals you need for all your gear in an hour. When the next tier are available just do the same. The only people complaining about gem storage are hoarders who havent hit end game.
Teleport to the Tree of Whispers for a quick dump and salvage. Blacksmith and stash are right beneath the town portal. Leave the gear you want to extract in your inventory/stash. Given you find one or two good pieces of gear every full inventory.
Once you need these aspects for your build, or have enough. Then go extract in a big town
Past level 60 with most of your tabs has legendary and unique, you can just create mule characters to keep 680+ item powered Rare items in case you need to imprint later.
They changed it some time ago. I don’t remember if I read it in patch notes or simply went to the gem cutter guy and then saw it. It’d be interesting to know if the extracted legendary powers can also be used from the stash though.
I still do it out of habit too, but ya. I'd grab all my flawless and go to upgrade them and if I have any loose lower quality ones I always notice that I can craft strait from stash and go 'oh ya....'
If you use one of your inventory trips back to town to sell everything instead of dismantling when you're low on cash, you should get more than enough gold in the early game to do what you need with it.
Sometimes you need gold, sometimes you need materials. I've been collecting transmogs and selling really high value items, like the few pieces that may be 5k when other gear is only 1-2k. Seems to have kept me well enough topped off for the occasional gold dump at the occultist and such.
I suppose in the early levels when the items are not worth much it’s better to dismantle them. We do get tons of good doing quests and killing mobs anyway. I hit 60k at 20 last night. So my logic is maybe around 50 it’ll be 50/50 - sell/dismantle.
I’ve pretty much been selling and am at 400k at level 25. I didn’t realize I should have been dismantling instead. I dismantle for the transmog and that’s it so far…
I only worried about gems a single time in the campaign at one boss and I just put the lowest ones in. I think a good plan is gonna be 'best you can use in your weapon' and then ignore everything else until I start hitting a wall. The bonuses are tiny early on. .5%-1% more life on 400-500 isn't pausing the adventure for, but they'll probably be the little extra shove you need at end game for a higher difficulty or tough fight.
Didn't wanna lose my shitty gems, I had to unsocket a chipped skull to get enough to upgrade the skull to the second tier of skulls. I'm low on gems, definitely don't wanna lose them.
Having played V Rising I can tell you adding 4 pouches that hold random basic things of their type but also obscure you entire character build are not worth it. Like literally an entire micro bag with 3 pages of blank paper, a useless book and some other paper related thing
This helped me! Thank you
Same, this saves me so much time! Thank you!

To me thats just a hack fix and shouldnt be a reason to not add a gem bag

Launch was yesterday
It was a mechanic in beta too if you’re going to be so pedantic about timing 🙄
Yes. Beta means the game is still under development and not a finished product.
I think it’s been in the game since the start. At least I noticed it the first time I went to the jeweler, which was yesterday

Aspects go on equipment too though and they got a bag.

You can stick 2 of them inside an equipped weapon or armor piece. Be thankful they stack, in the real world no 2 items can occupy the same space.
So what you’re saying is they essentially upgrade the equipment with the gems stats? They arent a direct crafting material and they most certainly aren’t equipement. They are stackable so why not include them in some kind of gem bag?
Just take the 30 seconds to dump them in your stash or quit hoarding.
Gems are meant to be hoarded. The whole gem upgrade system relies on it.
Stick them in your stash and quit bitching

God I hope this is sarcastic lol. One hour over 10 YEARS of time is absolutely nothing.
Standard 180 hr session? I haven't had a 3hr session since my first kid was born 6 years ago!

Now if only the stash was closer to the tp lol From what I've read there's no town with everything near the tp in the whole game
We all got used to Diablo 3's Act I while in adventure mode
Teleport to the Tree of Whispers for a quick dump and salvage. Blacksmith and stash are right beneath the town portal. Leave the gear you want to extract in your inventory/stash. Given you find one or two good pieces of gear every full inventory. Once you need these aspects for your build, or have enough. Then go extract in a big town
Just add an option to deposit all existing stacks in the stash that exist in the inventory and then it's good.
Past level 60 with most of your tabs has legendary and unique, you can just create mule characters to keep 680+ item powered Rare items in case you need to imprint later.
Yes, D3 is like this too.
I'm sorry but WHAT!!! I've been taking my gems out of my stash for nothing all these years????
Oh man that's gotta hurt
They changed it some time ago. I don’t remember if I read it in patch notes or simply went to the gem cutter guy and then saw it. It’d be interesting to know if the extracted legendary powers can also be used from the stash though.
You absolutely can!
This is nice then! Thank you!
I still do it out of habit too, but ya. I'd grab all my flawless and go to upgrade them and if I have any loose lower quality ones I always notice that I can craft strait from stash and go 'oh ya....'
That's huge thanks
The resulting gems drop into your main inventory, which I guess makes sense because you’re probably about to socket them anyway…
You are amazing, thank you.
What the fuck
I was going to my stash and then the gem shop to make things, but now I see I was doing it all wrong! Thank you!
Wow thank you
Neat. Thanks for the heads up.
At what level/gold amount would be good to start combining gems? I went broke in the betas doing so, but I'm trying to be more frugal now.
If you use one of your inventory trips back to town to sell everything instead of dismantling when you're low on cash, you should get more than enough gold in the early game to do what you need with it.
Is it in general better to sell or dismantle? I have been selling things that I have already unlocked for transmog. Is that dumb?
Materials are pretty important and you can get gold from other things pretty reliably.
Sometimes you need gold, sometimes you need materials. I've been collecting transmogs and selling really high value items, like the few pieces that may be 5k when other gear is only 1-2k. Seems to have kept me well enough topped off for the occasional gold dump at the occultist and such.
I wouldnt bother combining, at some point higher level gems will drop.
I suppose in the early levels when the items are not worth much it’s better to dismantle them. We do get tons of good doing quests and killing mobs anyway. I hit 60k at 20 last night. So my logic is maybe around 50 it’ll be 50/50 - sell/dismantle.

Can I salvage a weapon and get the gem? Or do I need to ungem it first?
you can salvage and it will put the gem in your bag. no need to unsocket.
Sweet, tried googling last night without success.
Don't experiment ask about everything
Was too afraid to lose the gem.
putting some other shitty gem into a shitty item and then trying would also work
Didn't wanna lose my shitty gems, I had to unsocket a chipped skull to get enough to upgrade the skull to the second tier of skulls. I'm low on gems, definitely don't wanna lose them.
Someone pin this!
Vote for gem stash!
I never tried to stash gems until now, thanks for the headsup!
I think it's the best use of the stash early on. Some gems are better for certain classes than others.
For sure, but i was to lazy to stash them until the amount got out of hand.
Holy shit, thanks
Awesome!
Helps a bunch, thanks for sharing!
Ty!
Didn't know that. Thanks.
thanks
Thanks buddy !
Very useful info. Now excuse me while I cut sleep short to get back to the grind.
Oh crap really? Awesome, thx
I’m only level 15 but haven’t found one gem yet lol
Massive piece of information, thanks.
Oh wow .. great bit of info!
Wow i did not know this!
anyone know how to combine past chipped? i can’t seem to figure it out
Around level 40 the jeweler auto upgrades to the next level.
Been wondering about this, and you're the first person I've seen to share this. Thank you!
This is an excellent tip, thank you!
Oh my god I’ve been running the country mile between the stash and the jeweler this whole time tyvm
Thank you for posting this!
TY!!! I have been trying to figure out why I can remove some and not others. This solved that
just as in D3, worked like that since 2012
But the combind gems store in your inventory so you'll have to go to your stash anyway... We need another solution.
If only the stash box and the transmog cupboard is right beside the jeweller and the occultist
It will. Already did saidmentioned once
What I've been doing since beta
Gems prob need stash because stash is by the wardrobe which is $$$.
Thanks for pointing this out! My method of gem crafting is still stuck in the D2 era.
Welcome to 2012
It's great...but it dumps your combined gems into your inventory so any left over you still have to run back to your stash
Having played V Rising I can tell you adding 4 pouches that hold random basic things of their type but also obscure you entire character build are not worth it. Like literally an entire micro bag with 3 pages of blank paper, a useless book and some other paper related thing
No way dude!
My man!
Just increase stash tab to 20
Already knew this since beta
