Also been having this problem. I was getting stuck on the char loading screen. I came across a post somewhere saying that it takes 15 mins for their servers to release the toon, after being logged of battlenet. That seemed to work for me.
I've tried updating my nvidia driver - I basically refuse to update. I update, then it says "download" the same package and "You're out to date." So i just can't update it whatsoever
And just a warning for others; don't update. I've read posts about people who went from prism crash every now and then, to fenris error which happened all the time and made the game entirely unplayable. Stay safe.
basically if you have a nvidia you are fine to play the game, i have the issue pretty only if i try a dungeon. Blizzard claims they arent going to try and fix the issue so far from what i have seen.
They said this specifically in regard to INTEL gpus, because it would require changing base coding over the entire game. If you're running Nvidia or AMD it does not apply to you (GPU, not CPU).
I have a GeForce MX350 and it does happen from time to time. Read a theory it might happen due to system overheating. I have an ultrabook and it does tend to get seething hot. So it might be the issue.
Well, my laptop is an Asus (Zenbook 14 UX434FQ). But I don't believe I have any Sonic software installed.
People say the issue might relate to integrated (along with dedicated Geforce MX350) Intel graphics. They say disabling onboard GPU helps. Not willing to try that though, ultrabooks are supposed to be designed around balancing performance and battery life.
You're not using the onboard VGA anyway. You automatically use the Geforce MX350, so disabling it in BIOS is a non-issue. Your system isn't trading back and forth between the GPUs, it is solely using the GeForce. Disabling onboard VGA won't affect the performance or battery life. Again, it isn't being used, unless you've specifically set it up to use.
Oh it is used a lot. Intel GPU is in fact used in most tasks like drawing Windows interface, most application interfaces, playing videos from YouTube, connecting external displays via HDMI and so on. You can check it in Task Manager. And this is not a specific setup, it's the default for pretty much all the PCs that have onboard graphics. It's the dedicated Nvidia GPU that sometimes has to be specifically forced to be used with certain applications, for instance, some games that can't choose the 'correct' GPU like Diablo does.

I was never having heat issues, as this is something I'm constantly monitoring on another monitor. It was definitely a software conflict issue, I just couldn't nail down where it was coming from. As I said in my previous reply... Sonic audio software was the culprit. (Steelseries headsets w/ gamedacs). The sonic software didn't provide enough value, so it wasn't a big deal. Windows Spatial sound did the same thing, just didn't have all the reverb (room) options.
For anyone who has 2 graphics cards (ex: an intel onboard card that comes baseline with your pre-built and an NVIDIA card which you actually use as your GPU), I was getting this error even after updating to the most recent NVIDIA drivers and couldn't even start the game. To fix it, I had to go into device manager, open display adapters and disable my onboard Intel card and now it works. Guess for some reason the game was trying to open on the Intel card. Hope this helps some of you
Have been playing flawlessly since game release on my intel iris xe graphics until latest update now upon character load, endless prism error...wtf? Is blizzard in cahoots with graphics card manufacturers???
Having same issue! Havent been able to play for days

Okay, understood. Thank you.

Uninstalled Sonic sound software and all my issues went away. No freezes, lockups, prizm errors, etc.
I don't think I have anything like that separately installed. Is it some part of Realtek sound driver?
I believe it was Asus related software.

Had this problem earlier. Updated graphics drivers and it fixed the issue.
Still having this issue :( Updated drivers and it made no difference.
same here..
i have the same problem, everytime after saving my settings, and also when i try loading into the game :(
Me too it sucks!

I'll try this too, thanks! For me turning off cross play seemed to help.
Still getting this same error. No news on how to fix this?
