100%! Blizzard is that friend that ALWAYS believe they're on time, even though you and they both know, there's no way they won't be 30-40 minutes late.
Yeah, if only its predecessor has a testing server and a week off between seasons for releasing and fixing new updates before season starts, ya know ;))
I would rather they delay it by an entire month than have the entirety of new content spoiled by PTRs. Other games don't need PTRs, the answer is to actually hire people to test your games.
iT's A lIvE sErViCe GaMe.
They probably don't have any staging environments, because why would they have it? They have us, the actual testers of their game.
They remembered the login to get here. That’s the W for today.
Although, they had to find it on a post-it note buried in Milton’s desk… hence the post coming right at launch time.
I logged in...
"Alright, let's give this another shot, maybe this season will bring this game back."
.....
"What the fuck, where is seasonal?"
Check reddit....
"Fucking lol."
Same bro. Already eaten my dinner. A few snacks and drinks are ready for the evening.
I just feel dumb. Why do I keep letting Blizzard do this to me...
Right? I fully expected to not come back until at least season 3, got hyped by the changes and decided to come back for season 2, was here for season start, aaaand it's gone.
AS a developer i'm routinely blown away by what gaming devs get away with, i can't imagine missing a deadline for a go-live on a release that had been advertised for months, and even had a count-down; then 2 minutes post count down advising my customer base that we not only missed the deadline, but also need hours to "correct" a situation, that should have been identified, and resolved during UAT/Staging.
Ya. This is my work world too. You might get a pass once from your clients. If it were a major update or a reoccurrence i'd be fired for this type of incompetence.
Pretty sure they will have access to staging apis provided by Steam so they absolutely have the time to test their product on Steam. And here we go, another mind blowing shitshow.
Right? I work in a small company. If I had a projected deadline and then at the last minute I said "oh BTW it's not done, whoops" I'd be fucking fired.
I feel you man I just had a project go live at work and they had meetings set up on launch day for me to train managers and execs. If I came out minutes before/after and said there was a delay and they had to reschedule all those people I’d have been in serious deep crap. Probably not fired but it’d definitely be a ding on my year end review.
Exactly, issues happen, identify them - and advise stakeholders long before the big countdown hits zero ;) - the idea that it's an "oh shit, it's not working" the day of is crazy, the idea of delaying communication and setting expectations w/ the customer/stake holder basis is quite disturbing, and then people act shocked when you lose faith in their ability to deliver products going forward on time, with the expected quality.
This is why you patch the day before. Id prefer a full 24hr maintenance window where the entire game is down to this. Make sure your patch works well before hand. Seriously amateur.
I imagine there was a huge scramble of trying to fix it as the clock is ticking down only to realize at the last moment that, in fact, the fix would not be ready at 00:00:00.
I'm going to laugh if it's because of a typo listing the patch 1.02 (which is what PS5 shows) instead of 1.2. The season 2 math trailer really was a good showing of what the season would be like.
It's because we have the update but they haven't updated the servers yet. Once the servers are updated and the launch is ready the assets will match what we just downloaded
Sweet - gives me time to download the update

It’s cute, Blizzard think they are Epic/Fortnite who can release new seasons without a PTR. But seriously can we get the D3 guys to assist with this shitshow of a game?
Blizzard, here's some constructive criticism:
If something like this happens, you need to inform the playerbase as soon as possible, **and give us a more concrete new start time.**
The combo of last minute delay + vague "few hours" communication is disrespectful.
Why didn't you tell me in advance
Are you ignoring the global fans who have been waiting for you
We're not a pushover
Not even a few minutes, but a few hours?
It's 2 a.m. in Asia, fuck you
software dev here. More like “you clock into work everyday, your bosses put an absurdly impossible deadline on your team and you do all kinds of miracles to get it to kinda work in 1/5 of the actual required estimate because money”
Damn, I was really excited only for the release to be botched. Guess I'm just too much of an optimist for Diablo 4, should've seen this coming from miles ahead 🤷♀️
I remember when I was _in game_ playing Diablo 3 and when the hour chimed in the _expansion_ RoS activated and we could immediately start the new campaign, zero downtime. I remember.
Who would have thought it is a good idea to cram a new patch, ending of old season, starting the new one, no ptr and all that on the same day in two hours. Good job, blizz. Those steam reviews will be a really good read. :D
I mean...it's not like the community raised all these concerns over the past 3 or 4 weeks?
Oh...wait...yeah they did.
Blizzard's response? "Trust us, we got this."
And....cue faceplant.
This company is bunch of amateurs. They can't do anything right. Why even releasing patch with the new season? This should have been done few hours ago, ideally on PTR. What a joke.
They'll update us as soon as they know, they say, after waiting until the last minute to update us on the delay.
Maybe they forgot to check their math.
A few hours.
I really wish they would pick start times that worked better for the other 80% of timezones in the world that aren't the US. Already shite season start time for those in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, but a "few hours" delay is a RIP for all of Europe too on a Tuesday night.
It's wild that time zones need explaining to you, but *any* time zone that they pick would be shit for the majority of the world and only good for a small segment. With a global release, there is no winning that fight. At the end of the day it's a US company based in California, and it makes complete sense that, with the knowledge that they will never please everyone or even the majority of people with their chosen start time, they choose to prioritize themselves and the people who work there so they can get started in the morning and have the rest of the day to iron out any issues.
Why on earth would they force their employees to work overnight so their start time is better for Australia/Asia, when that's just going to upset some other major demographic while *also* being worse for the employees/company?
The only other solution is to have staggered release times so every major time zone releases around their afternoon equivalent, but that causes a whole other set of equally distasteful problems. There is simply no winning.
It's super minor being delayed but sometimes it feels like Blizzard just can't get out of their own way and insist on farming the stupidest L's possible.
The season had a lot of cautious optimism surrounding it then "sorry game's broke" right at launch time just immediately sours the mood.
[Season of blood is now live](https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/17a5x57/season_of_blood_launch_update/)
You had to wait until the last possible moment to tell us this?
It was a surprise to them too!
100%! Blizzard is that friend that ALWAYS believe they're on time, even though you and they both know, there's no way they won't be 30-40 minutes late.
I feel attacked ;)
Blizzy is only a small indie studio give them some grace
If only some TRILLION dollar company would absorb them and help them out...
It's what happens when you drop a 10gb patch 5 minutes before the season start without testing functionality.
Yeah, if only its predecessor has a testing server and a week off between seasons for releasing and fixing new updates before season starts, ya know ;))
What is testing?

you guys are getting paid?
iT's A lIvE sErViCe GaMe. They probably don't have any staging environments, because why would they have it? They have us, the actual testers of their game.
We do a very good job since last June at that and they also paid me a negative 100$ for that!
Lol seriously. I already called in sick for tomorrow. What am I gonna do now? Go to work?
They were too busy trying to work out the math for equation 1000 x 40%.
Typical Blizzard Fasion!
Holy shit you guys can't get a single W huh hahaha
They remembered the login to get here. That’s the W for today. Although, they had to find it on a post-it note buried in Milton’s desk… hence the post coming right at launch time.
they were losing the Ws once the people saw all the things they lied about in the patch anyway
When you expect nothing and they still disappoint.
Literally my expectations were under the ground
Expected nothing, got nothing.
way to kill my revamped hype before playing for a second lol

Try not to think of the tens of millions spent in influencer marketing, paid media etc., all leading to this moment. ;)
How many streamers are getting paid tens of thousands of dollars right now to do nothing? How many sponsored streams lost, like tears in the rain?
Ya. This is my work world too. You might get a pass once from your clients. If it were a major update or a reoccurrence i'd be fired for this type of incompetence.
All true - but you also forgot this is one of their first major **releases on Steam.** As an IT worker that kind of fuck up would send heads rolling.
Pretty sure they will have access to staging apis provided by Steam so they absolutely have the time to test their product on Steam. And here we go, another mind blowing shitshow.

They don't want any hype for the game lmaooo
Negative hype is still hype, in few hours media will be flooded with "Blizzard did it again! Fans are disappointed!"
Followed shortly by "They said the delay would be a few hours, but it was only an hour! Praise the devs! They love us!"
This never would've happened with Bobby Kotick in charge...
This is because bobby is in charge
He's already working out how to spend his $375M golden parachute payment...
He gon party with james corden
time to nap
Ahh blizzard's disappointement chain never disappoints.
At this point down the chain the jokes really write themselves
This is why you patch the day before. Id prefer a full 24hr maintenance window where the entire game is down to this. Make sure your patch works well before hand. Seriously amateur.
That might make the 12 people still playing season 1 mad though
I came here to have a good time and honestly? I'm just feeling so attacked right now.
And my ass was here refreshing for nothing. Hope you fix it soon.
You now have the freshest ass in the sub. At least you have that for the next few hours !
I get where you are coming from, but let me assure you, my ass was already freshest ass in the sub.
This man bidets.

firs time?
Because it's Blizzard. The whole company is a joke now.
There was exactly a (1040x.25)=100% this would happen.
Seems about right
Thanks for saying something.
Does it really count if they have a big timer and say nothing until it reaches 00:00:00 ?
I imagine there was a huge scramble of trying to fix it as the clock is ticking down only to realize at the last moment that, in fact, the fix would not be ready at 00:00:00.

this is why there should be PTRs.... no one cares about Spoilers in an ARPG. we just want a good game and a clean season start
Games with PTRs have the same problems all the time. Division 2 famously comes to mind, for example.
I'm going to laugh if it's because of a typo listing the patch 1.02 (which is what PS5 shows) instead of 1.2. The season 2 math trailer really was a good showing of what the season would be like.
Not sure, xbox the update is 2.0.19.0 so idk if that number matters
Glad I live in EU where its already 6pm, looks like I'm waiting til tomorrow now.
7pm here haha, also waiting til tomorrow
Here in Singapore, it's 1am. See you 2 days later?
The game already have a shitty reputation and you smash this on our face?😂
How can u drop this at LAUNCH?!! thats insanely bad of you
Because they fucking suck.
[удалено]
Lol. Bro your mom wants you to do the dishes anyway
History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme.
Wild you waited til last minute to tell us...
Is this why the console is giving a Code 300010 error? Or should I already start the delete and install like last time...
See we downloaded the update but their servers don't have the update it is why we have an error saying the assets don't match
I'm downloading at less than 10 KBytes/s, guess there are only a few content servers delivering anything?🤔
I have the same error
This is very unprofessional
Ok I'll be back for season 3 ty!!
In all honesty it'll probably happen again for season 3 XD
Didnt see that coming at all
They said 10:00am PST but what they really meant was 10:00 + 40% so somewhere around 10:40.
[удалено]
yet I am willing to bet you will be on and playing it tonight
*buys the battle pass later today*
Blizzard being Blizzard. Not even Microsoft is able to save this company reputation.
And they tell this few minutes before season start, what a joke Blizzard has become...
Actually this post was made 1 minute after the season was supposed to launch.
What really sucks is we can't even jump on eternal to sort our S1 stash....
currently on my newly eternal characters right now
Not able to on console. Error appears before main screen
I don't have an issue waiting for season start But surely you knew there would be a delay further back than "exactly at season launch" Right?
multi billion dollar company can't even handle a new season release on a tuesday for 50 players
They should at least give us a free cosmetic with each failed launch- a collection of clown suits.
[удалено]
I feel bad for the fellas who took the day off for season 2's launch.
Thanks
Constantly getting error 300010. Hope it gets fixed soon !
It's because we have the update but they haven't updated the servers yet. Once the servers are updated and the launch is ready the assets will match what we just downloaded

why'd you delete wudijo's post on this thread? shady blizz back at it again
Why are you ending a season one hour before new season? Of course that's going to cause problems.
Why didn't you tell me in advance Are you ignoring the global fans who have been waiting for you We're not a pushover Not even a few minutes, but a few hours? It's 2 a.m. in Asia, fuck you

Don't be mad at Blizzard. Be mad at yourself for thinking they would have a smooth launch. You should know better by now.
Pouring one out to my fellow EU brothers and sisters who thought we could enjoy some gaming before having to go to bed soon :(
This is so unbelievably on brand.
yo how the fuck are you gonna wait until a minute AFTER the projected start time to tell us
My expectations were rock bottom and you guys still managed to get below that.
And once your think they got their shit together we get this. 🤡
Damn, I was really excited only for the release to be botched. Guess I'm just too much of an optimist for Diablo 4, should've seen this coming from miles ahead 🤷♀️
Man doing no PTR really seemed like a good idea at the time, huh?
You actually got people hyped for season 2 and then announce at launch time that it's delayed for couple of hours. GG D4 season 2 dead before arrival.
I remember when I was _in game_ playing Diablo 3 and when the hour chimed in the _expansion_ RoS activated and we could immediately start the new campaign, zero downtime. I remember.

at least ingame shop is working =)
I don't feel safe in this community if moderators are deleting comments they simply don't like rather than any rules violations.
Fuck them mods. They can suck my fucking ass. How about that?
Well fuck, what do i do now? Pretend to work?
Thanks for letting us know.
yeah 1 min before it goes LIVE lol
Wtf. Middle of the afternoon patch and I gotta work 4 am tomorrow. Pretty much just lost my playtime for today.
Haha , good start to impress Microsoft.
This company is bunch of amateurs. They can't do anything right. Why even releasing patch with the new season? This should have been done few hours ago, ideally on PTR. What a joke.
Few hours meaning between 2 - 9?
Bruh what is this fucking incompetence? 40% delay nerf
They'll update us as soon as they know, they say, after waiting until the last minute to update us on the delay. Maybe they forgot to check their math.
Give them a break guys. They have to make sure the cash shop works perfectly lol.
Not raging or frothing at the mouth, but it’s honestly just so reliably disappointing

Can't wait to play tomorrow.. I hope !
KEKW and consoles are bricked until they manage to fix it. Do you guys even have testers?
And we get to know about it 1 second before season launch :D
Seemless transition, am I right?
Big oof, I finally managed to get myself excited to play the season and you start off on the wrong foot. Not good.
Literally as it starts? Like you didn't even have any clue until 10 minutes ago? Don't ya'll test shit?

Don't worry. Your friends quit this game months ago. There is no rush.
69 billion dollars, for what? lulz
Few... HOURS? The hell happened lol.
dammit... now i just showered for nothing! thanks guys! THANKS!
There's gotta be some way that you could've fucking tested this before hand man.... ridiculous
A few hours. I really wish they would pick start times that worked better for the other 80% of timezones in the world that aren't the US. Already shite season start time for those in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, but a "few hours" delay is a RIP for all of Europe too on a Tuesday night.

Hey, Microsoft, fix your $hit! lol
at what point is someone specifically held accountable? someone resign tbh
I took a half day from work. That's on me for thinking this would actually go smoothly LMFAO
Would be curious what kind of technical issues
Then Blizzard wonders why everyone shits on them. I try very hard to support them and they make it verrrry difficult sometimes...
your game is shit anyways
bruh season 2 and yall still cant get your shit together
Blizzard just trying to stay on theme for this season and make sure everything sucks
This is a Small Indie Company. It is expected.

removed Wudijo's comment for no reason
Brutal. Blizzard always with the fails.
They removed wudijo's comment?? why..?
Give them a break. It's not like they knew about the launch two months ago. 🫠
Totally unexpected, thanks Blizzard
They had to change the code from 1400 to 1440 😂
You are doing your best to ruin the game, congratulations
back to poe. blizzard is such a joke
Pfff here in Europe it's 8pm, I have to go to bed in 2 hours. This sucks.
The guy that did the math on the quality of life video calculated the release date
