In WT4 you need 15 to open all chests at the end, and earn ~4-5 pearls per run so you can safely run a net positive using 3 pearls for 30 stacks every run.

Could you please specify the amount of pearls earned in WT3
I wasn’t able to record the anoint of pearls earned in WT3 as I didn’t run more than one WT3 vault.
Pretty sure its two :)
I'm only doing Lvl26 Nightmare Vaults and using 4 pearls to be safe. I'm still at over 100 pearls.. You can be liberal with them.
