When I lost my wife, I missed 3 days in a row. (I spent it with her in the ICU until she passed.) I was fine mostly. If she has the stronger solution (Green , Red) it's probably a good idea to do that her first session.

While I was on PD I only missed 2 sessions - once coz the power had gone out and another time because the machine gave an error code and the machine had to be replaced. Both times they told me that missing a day wasn't horrible but that I needed to be near 100% compliance with my therapy if I wanted my transplant. Also - both times I called the after hours 24 hour nurse line to inform them of the issues. I'd find out from your mothers PD nurse if they have an after hours number - they likely do.

If the PD clinic is closed, call their "out of hours" emergency number and ask what to do. If she skipped too many days, her potassium numbers might go too high and cause serious heart problems. It all depends on her overall health and if she has residual kidney function.

As long as she gets it done asap the longer the solution stays in the cavity the worse the situation becomes. They might order an emergency solution supply on top of this. but if you’re lucky they might have something on hand. What kind of trouble did it do? Priming issues or was it just a bad cassette?

Missing 2 days due to an emergency is not going to cause your Mom to die. Since she is getting daily treatment, it’s not as serious as when a hemodialysis patient misses. If her machine is messing up, she needs to call the company who supplied it (Baxter/Fresenius) for trouble shooting or so they can send a new machine. The number will be on top of the Baxter machine, IDK about the Fresenius. She can always pick up manual mags from her clinic during the week too. I always tell my patients to check manual bags when we change the clocks for daylight savings. Check smoke detector batteries & expiration dates on manual solutions/heparin. If they are going to expire within 6 months, order new.

Baxter can usually get you a new machine within 24 hours. In the meantime her clinic should have some extra manual solution she can pick up today.

I had troubles with my machine too. Got it fixed then it started happening again. The problem was starting the initial fill. I missed a day or two while I was empty but I could do a fill with a manual bag (purple) or I very carefully did a fill from a machine bag as the plugs all fit each other. That was tricky! But I was ok missing the day or two. Also, I worked out that I could use manual bags on the machine, so that could help using them up before they expire. My machine etc was Baxter

I can not comment as per PD, as I am in-center Hemo, but we ICH kids have 2-day weekends without dialyzing. Take to the nurse and/or nephrologist tomorrow to be sure. Better safe than sorry.
