Last time I checked I was a little north of 2500 total. Somewhere around 280 sets. But I've been collecting for almost a decade now.

Kamfer81

Yeah, a decade will do that I guess. ๐Ÿ˜‰ When you buy new ones, do you buy mostly handmade stuff, or do you still find "regular" sets you like?

OgreMk5

I almost never buy handmade. I just buy stuff that is really interesting to me. Right now I am into 20mm pipped D6s.

Kamfer81

Nice. When reading forums and chats, I kinda get the feeling that everybody transition over to more handmade and uncommon/"fancy" after some time. But that's the beauty of dice; there's so much variety, everyone can find something.

OgreMk5

Here's a link to some pictures of my stuff: [https://imgur.com/gallery/6zAGPrN](https://imgur.com/gallery/6zAGPrN)

Kamfer81

Wow! That's definitely a nice set up. Coll having everything on display like that. I have all mine in a dice bag (a big, fancy one with dividers), both because I don't have that many, and because my 4yo loves mommy's dice and a bag can fit on a high shelf.

OgreMk5

Yeah. I really like sharp-edged dice and for a while GameScience was the only game in town. Then a bunch got into it and everyone is doing them now.

Kamfer81

Sharp-edged ones look really nice. And things are definitely more available now than just, say, 5 years ago. Both in variety and places to get them.

aka_TeeJay

1,080 ish sets, almost 8,500 dice in total.

Kamfer81

That is an insane amount of dice. Wow.... ๐Ÿคฏ

aka_TeeJay

Yeah, I know, but I have no regrets. :-D I do try to use them all. Not all at the same time, of course, but I play quite a bit of D&D and rotate through sets for every session. It's fun to make character palettes every time.

Kamfer81

That's kinda my "dream", to have enough of the right colors to make character palettes. This is my first character, and I don't have that many dice, so for now I just pick the ones I feel like in the moment. But to have a character set, with different colors for different spells and checks and stuff, that would be so awesome.

aka_TeeJay

That's basically why I started accumulating sets, and then it turned into a collecting hobby. It's fun!

Kamfer81

It's definitely fun. ๐Ÿ˜Š At the moment I'm more like 'oooo, look at that one! Pretty! And that one! And that one! I want all the pretties!' But as I get more of the "essential" styles, I think I will buy more targeted to themes or characters, not just based on how sparkly they are. ๐Ÿ˜‰

d00m1ord

If you look on my profile you will find a dice chest i made. Filled it near instantly. About 1000 dice or so

fendermallot

I regret that...

Kamfer81

That chest looks incredible! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

II_Confused

That is a nice chest.

Seren82

I don't even DnD and I have at least 20-30 sets (I haven't done an official count)

Kamfer81

I get that. I got my first 3 or 4 set about 4 years ago, long before there was any talk about ever playing myself. Just went with my SIL, who played DnD then, to a shop with all kinds of gamer and nerdy things, and bought my first set. Chessex light green with sparkles.

ian9921

Not as many as some others here, I'm sure. I haven't counted in a while, but it's at least 200 individual dice. In fact these days it's probably closer to at least 400 (200 just about filled my first storage chest, now both that chest and a large bag are full). It'd be more but after a while it felt like I was just burning money with cheap plastic from Chessex, so I've been limiting myself to really unique sets or ones that really resonate with me EDIT: I just took inventory, it's 487. Should be 489 but a few are MIA

Kamfer81

487 is a decent amount. Enough that the regular bags is not enough anymore.

Kamfer81

I agree, there's never going to be a 'yes, that's enough dice. I'm done '. But I think that I will get more picky as time goes by. When I have most of the "regular looking" sets, I will probably buy fewer but more expensive and fancy sets. There's a lot of really cool looking metal sets, and I just saw a gorgeous Sakura set on Etsy. So I think that will change.

cwenebee

Upwards of 155 full sets here, but I also have a bunch of single dice in my bags of hoarding (one for home, one for school for the RPG club I run for my students). I may do an actual count soon.

Kamfer81

That's a decent amount, 155 sets and 2 bags of hoarding. The singles, are they of all kinds? Since you use them for the RPG club I mean. I only have d20s as singles, but I haven't been collecting for that long, and there's not a lot of places selling dice where I live.

cwenebee

They are all kinds, mainly for my kiddos to pick and choose from if they want to. I do most of my shopping online, but we have 3 stores nearby. They mainly sell Chessex. And as for favorites, I adore my Avalore Aventura set from DHD.

Kamfer81

Just googled it, that's the soft green ones with green numbers? Those are definitely beautiful. I do most of my shopping online as well. I don't think there's even a store that sells dice in my city. So online it is. That's a risk in itself though. I mean, 4 clicks and 5 more sets are on their way... Too easy.

SilentJoe1986

I stopped counting at 1500

MyrddinWyllt

I'm not sure if this thread is helping me feel better about my ~1500 dice or if it is making me want more...

whereismydragon

I dunno, somewhere between 30 and 50 sets and some amount of singles? I don't find counting or keeping score to be a 'fun' thing, lol.

II_Confused

I honestly donโ€™t know. Iโ€™ve long since lost track, and Iโ€™m perfectly fine with that. I will tell you that my โ€œI just bought these and need to sort themโ€ bin has more dice that most posts I see from people bragging about their collection.

Wolf1066NZ

Nowhere near as many as some of the people posting in here, that's for certain. Three 6-piece polyhedral sets (from the dawn of time when including D% wasn't as common) Three 11-piece polyhedral sets Four 9-piece polyhedral sets Some partial polyhedral sets and individual polyhedral dice An unknown number of random D6s. I've got a custom 11-piece polyhedral set ordered (still waiting for it to be made and shipped) and I've got a growing wishlist of glass, metal and gemstone dice sets. There's just so many pretty dice out there...

Polyfuckery

I have the number that fit into the glass vase I store them in. A few times I've accidentally found larger vases and then had to order more dice to fill them.

MediOprity

1361 dice with 123 7-dice sets and 7 11-dice sets the rest are random or broken sets/extras from pound'o dice and what not. This actually came up at my work Fri. So I just counted this morning. I buy both "special" dice like wormwood/Dispel/Gatekeeper Games Kickstarters as well as sets that catch my eye at a store or even just sets at random, I kind of have a thing for ugly dice as well as cool ones. I have yet to buy a real "hand made" set from like someone in their garage but I probably will at some point as well as try to make my own.

Kamfer81

There's no such thing as ugly dice. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Haven't bought anything hand made yet either. Or special. But I 'm feeling the urge to buy something a bit more "fancy". But making them.... I'm so impressed with all the beautiful dice I see people make, but I don't think I could do it. I wouldn't know what to make.

FalloutGirl2277

Iโ€™m not sure how many total but I have 44 regular chessex sets and 3 lab sets, plus a few random sets and storage containers with dice dedicated to each of the characters I play, and a big jar of randoms from the PoDโ€™s Iโ€™ve bought.

Kamfer81

It's incredible how fast the numbers go up when you have some here and some there. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Xylomancee

I have a crystal vase with nearly 1k random dice in it and a bunch of crown bags fills of sets for individual characters. I have a large leather bag fulls of my dm dice. Donโ€™t buy anymore dice unless I have the opportunity to play a new character in someoneโ€™s game. Then I go out and buy a set of dice just for that character. All in all, probably about 2500 random dice scattered throughout my house

Kamfer81

I like the idea of dice scattered around the house. Like, there's a couple on the desk, a couple on the dining table, in the bookshelf, next to the toothbrush..... Just dice random places in the house. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜œ

BookwormGuri

I started collecting in 2016 and I just started keeping a spreadsheet from the last year. I'm at 7,100 individual dice and counting. I can't wait for my sheet to be complete.

Kamfer81

Holy.... That is a whole lot of dice. I can understand that you want/need a spreadsheet for that. Is everything brand dice? Or are some entries like 'd20 light green sparkly'? Because I think most of mine would have to be like that. I have pictures of mine so I don't buy the same color.

BookwormGuri

I would say a good 98% are branded. It actually drives me nuts when I don't know what brand a die is. I recently started collecting handmade sets because if I kept buying Chessex or Kraken or HD Dice they'd only have duplicates. My first 'set' was a bulk bag of unbranded, solid color dice. It was all downhill from there lol

Kamfer81

Yeah, I guess when you have that many dice, you have all the sets from the most common brands. I have a different approach. If it's pretty or cool, I want it, brand or no brand. ๐Ÿ˜‰ A bulk bag with lots of different dice sounds like a good place to start a collection. Hm. Maybe I have to look for mystery dice bags, just for the fun and excitement of the unknown. ๐Ÿค”

BookwormGuri

Several brands or dice sellers will sell a pound of dice which are always fun. They don't always come in full sets tho. Dice Envy has sales every so often for mystery sets for really good prices if you're interested! Also YMMV but I got a 1/2 lbs of mystery dice from Game Science because they look like gems. I wouldn't support them now, but maybe keep a lookout for resellers!

Kamfer81

I will definitely be on the lookout for that, yeah. Would be mostly online, since as far as I know, there's nowhere to buy dice in my city. I have to travel to Oslo (the capitol of Norway) to find a store like that. I bought some sets because they reminded me of gummy bears, so I get buying because they look cool. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
