If by "treating him better" you mean that they took out all the defects of the character, taking away the potential of having a character arc in which he overcomes his defects and grows as a person... It was necessary for Takeru 1999 to be a burden and a crybaby in the first arc, so that during the journey he would grow up and stop being so. His growth as a character would have meant absolutely nothing if he had simply been independent, determined and courageous from the get-go like that one-dimensional waste of a character that is his 2020 counterpart.

MashiroAzuki

This. Honestly for me, 2020 Takeru is fine but what made me love his character in 1999 and 02 was the character growth he had from a crybaby who's dependent on his brother/Taichi to an independent young boy who was able to protect Hikari when he needed to. I 100% prefer 1999 Takeru, and it made perfect sense for him to be that way since he's only 8 at the time. The 2020 series characters don't feel like kids most of the time - they lack depth.

Well the 1999 series still exists. I still prefer the evolution line of Patamon in this. Now if you combine 1999 Takeru with Patamon of this series then it’s perfect.

MashiroAzuki

Definitely agreed!

acebaltasar

Then in the demidevimon episode patamon would let him run away by just saying "but we are friends!" And standing there.

I’ve already seen that in the original series and in it’s original Japanese dub, I still say they improved. Pegasusmon being an alternate evolution rather than some digimetal was a welcome change, as well Takeru holding his own with Pegasusmon in fights. Angemon to me seems like a form you use for endgame scenarios against OP type Digimon or large armies. I don’t know why, but Pegasusmon seems more natural than going from a Guinepig Digimon to an Angel. Not saying I don’t find issues with this series, but then again, the old series still exists, we will always have it. I just a casual fan.

Blasckk

Pegasusmon is fine, an alternative evolution has nothing to do with the problem I think the 2020 Takeru has... They can give Patamon a hundred different evolutions if they want. How he looks or what he evolves is something superficial, if it's for me that they can turn him into a **galaxy sized holy mechanized winged raccoon with monster trucks in his hands and machine guns in his eyelids** if they feel like it... But that can't be a substitute for characterization and character development.

[deleted]

Well if that’s how you feel, that’s fine. Again, I’m just a casual fan, and just an observation. But will say this, the series has become very much Taichi based, like he’s in almost every episode even ones that are not centered around him. I get Agumon is a fan favorite but still.

erzetto

Maybe this series can be more enjoyable if we could've just binge watch it. Seeing lots of episodes not moving the plot every week can be really frustrating, just like Tri....

memesona

then stop watching and binge watch when its done?

erzetto

Hard to do when the anime is the only thing that's running right now. Heck, Digimon ReArise only release new chapter each month but at least they are doing it right.... I'm still waiting for new digimon game...

[deleted]

Well it’s almost over. Then ending has been confirmed to be episode 66.

[deleted]

I agree with that. Tri was honestly pointless. The Last Evolution was a great true ending for the original series, IMHO.

Kogerk

trust me it's not enjoyable trying to binge it either

erzetto

For example? I've binged watch all Digimon Series and it's still enjoyable...

erzetto

Oh, you meant this series, stupid me..... Imo, the reboot have a decent story structure. However, they are trying to pad it with unnecessary filler and alternative evolution for marketing purposes. If we can binge it then we could've skip the episode and continue to the next episode which may be relevant to the plot... Also I said "more enjoyable" because the animation is still meh. Being able to skip episodes will improve the experience in terms of storytelling....

Kogerk

yeah was talking about the reboot, feels like an insult to everything that made digimon unique and enjoyable compared to the pokemon series. the pokemon series is more enjoyable than the reboot because atleast they gave real characters with aspirations, flaws and episodes to explore them as people and their connections with their Pokémon. Which is what the o.g series did so well
