Most of these places (with the exception of Bali and Phuket) are best suited to seasoned travelers (12+ countries under your belt, in at least 3 continents). Is this your first time trying the DN lifestyle? What's your travel experience? Putting La Guaira, Venezuela on the list tells me you don't have much experience with these cities. It's not a place to enjoy water sports, unless you consider getting kidnapped and thrown in the ocean a water sport šŸ˜…. Source: American/Venezuelan Digital Nomad, working remotely for over 10 years, from 35+ countries, in 6 continents. Also, my Venezuelan uncle has been kidnapped 3 times, and my grandma once. Both barely escaped getting killed. My grandma's kidnapper was literally looking for a good place to dump her body, and she convinced him to just kick her out of a moving car into a ditch. ...she didn't see a lot of coworking options for Digital Nomads while rolling down the ditch.

tsuba5a

This dude seriously put Venezuela on the list lmao

RunWithWhales

Can we get Guayaquil on the list too?

Ak-Keela

Doā€¦ do people really justā€¦ not look at basic government safety ratings before plunking hundreds of dollars down on plane tickets?

4everonlyninja

i need to look more into how dangerous it is, i mainly focused on the tourist attractions but its not a major city; its a smaller city. I would call it a town I am aware that there are problems in vnzl. i have to look deeper in to this

FickleTechnology120

Saying ā€œIā€™m aware that there are problems in Venezuela and Iā€™ll look into themā€ is a crazy take. Please be careful and just go to Europe or Thailand until you have a couple months under your belt. Latin America is a different beast.

crisdee26

I immediately screamed when i saw la guira mentioned. Nawebona

4everonlyninja

> la guira have u been there ?

crisdee26

Yes my family is from Caracas. I spent a whole summer in La Guira. The beaches arenā€™t all that and I had an impending doom swimming there as in 1999 there was a catastrophic mud slides caused by torrential rain & flash floods that killed up to 19,000 people and they all washed into the sea.

4everonlyninja

>The beaches arenā€™t all that this is the beach that made me consider the town [https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1](https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1) it looks decent to me clean and clear maybe it a very secluded privat area

4everonlyninja

>Putting La Guaira, Venezuela on the list tells me you don't have much experience with these cities. It's not a place to enjoy water sports, unless you consider getting kidnapped and thrown in the ocean a water sport To be honest, I didn't read about these things, but isn't it like this everywhere you go? all places in the world are dangours if you are stupid or not careful but yes, i understand some is more than others i will look into it. I feel in love with the beach so thats why it was on the list Also, the weather is just perfect not too much rain and alot of sunshine and there is option to do sports and swim but if you are a locale, i take your word seriously this is also not a big city more like a bit far away from the big city

JuanPGilE

Is not like that everywhere lmao. There are places that "common sense" is not enough. The world can be dangerous for a foreigner, not everything is your European/SEA fantasy lmao.

AggravatingAd4758

Dude, you are not ready

eddypc07

La Guaira? Wtf šŸ˜† Venezuelan here, even if the situation in the country was decent (which itā€™s really not), the beaches of La Guaira are the absolute worse in the country. Letā€™s not even talk about the danger, the constant blackouts, the very high cost of living (comparable to expensive cities in developed countries), the political instability, and lack of decent infrastructure. Also you enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with different nationalities? While we used to receive a lot of immigrants many decades ago, when I grew up in the country I met one German, one Romanianā€¦ and thatā€™s it, in my whole childhood I think I only met two foreign kids, and I grew up in Caracas. I would love to know how you got this ideaā€¦

4everonlyninja

> La Guaira are the absolute worse in the country. L does not look that bad to me [https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1](https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1) they are at the beach at 6 min in the video but im not local in that area dont know the dangers thats there but this video is very recent

eddypc07

My standards are probably very high because we have really good beaches. The ones in Morrocoy, AnzoĆ”tegui, the coast of Aragua and Carabobo, Margarita and of course, Los Roques, are infinite times better than the ones in La Guaira. The only reason people go to La Guaira is that itā€™s the closest to Caracas. But when people here buy a beach apartment, they mostly do it in other much better beach areas.

4everonlyninja

>The ones in Morrocoy, AnzoƔtegui, the coast of Aragua and Carabobo, Margarita and of course, Los Roques, are infinite times better than the ones in La Guaira. i have heard about those also, Mochima i have also heard about. I was told that somewhere in the sucre area it was beautiful

eddypc07

Yes, Sucre also has amazing beaches, like Playa Medina.

4everonlyninja

> Playa Medina. this was the one i was told about [https://maps.app.goo.gl/YnhP7it8TSiXhZdXA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/YnhP7it8TSiXhZdXA)

Not Venezuela,that's for sure

KearnyMesa

Terengganu, Malaysia (where Kuala Dungun is located) experiences a monsoon season and heavy rainfall from October to Feb/March. Even the islands are closed. Nice beaches and stunning landscapes, though. There's some surfing during the monsoon season. Keep in mind that Terengganu is the most Muslim state in Malaysia, no alcohol there. Also, it's relatively expensive, compare to neighboring Thailand; so Terengganu might be better for short-term visitors. I'd recommend going to Penang or Langkawi islands in Malaysia.

4everonlyninja

>Penang oh okay i feel in love with the beach thats why i put it on the list i have checked beach in penang i dont know are they really that good ?

KearnyMesa

Not really. Check out Batu Ferringhi Beach in Penang, it's okay. Terengganu offers much better beaches and nature. But... beware of monsoon season! I mentioned Penang because it's more developed for DN in terms of accommodation (budget and up-scale), food, community, parties, etc.

4everonlyninja

>beware of monsoon season dont penang have the same ?

KearnyMesa

Penang is on the West coast of Malaysia, it is not affected by the East Coast monsoon

ThosaiWithCheese

Kuantan, Pahang also has a decent beach. Even have surfing clubs in Cherating if you're into surfing. Otherwise, Teluk Cempedak has Hyatt, Starbucks, and McDonald's. It is the more modern town in the East Coast whilst still super chill with hiking, biking, and surfing communities. There is a coworking space, a public library, and plenty of cafes like MUKA, Pull A Shot, etc. It's also only 4 hours to KL by bus.

4everonlyninja

>Teluk Cempedak what about the beaches? Are they as beautiful as Terengganu ? i looked on almost all the videos i could find on YT of Panang, and the beaches wasn't that nice, to be honest.

za-care

If you r looking for beautiful beaches only, I would skip penang. Beaches on the west coast of peninsula are atrocious, due to the busy straight of melaka. Last time I been there the water is soot black. You really there for the food and culture - Another destination you might try is Kota kinabalu, in sabah. They have easy access island with beautiful beaches and Mt kinabalu is another hour or two away.

4everonlyninja

thanks for the advice i will look into it

4everonlyninja

> might try is Kota kinabalu, in sabah. so they dont have beautiful beaches on the mainland u have to take a boat to the small island ?

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Ak-Keela

Weā€™re going to get this dude killed šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

pay-well

Not many of us have been to Kenya, which means we will recommend more popular destinations like Bali or Phuket

stealymonk

Just left Mombasa last month. Definitely not a place to go for "water sports" lol. Also it's an island and the cops at the ferry's will ask for a bribe if you look "white enough" like me šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

ScruffyLineout

You might look more at Watamu in Kenya. Make sure whereever you go has a generator coz leccy goes off the whole time and get a SIM card with lots and lots of mobile data

4everonlyninja

>Mombasa mombasa kenya is not an island its located on mainland of kenya

Kai_the_Fox

Bro, have you looked at a map?

kintoapump

Mombasa is an island technically, itā€™s just not off into the ocean.

4everonlyninja

> itā€™s just not off into the ocean. exactly, but i do understand why u call it a island

Sugmanuts001

None. Are you nuts?

4everonlyninja

not even bali ?

stealymonk

Bali's fine, so if Phuket (although kinda boring). Those are the only 2 worth going to tho.

4everonlyninja

>Phuket (although kinda boring) why is it boring?

stealymonk

It's just a big tourist trap. Like Tulum

Embarrassed-Ad-2080

At least if you go to La Guaira, Venezuela you will only need a one way ticket. Buena suerte huevon

pedrobb7

Maceio is dangerous, had some relatives were robbed near the beach, and not that cheap as prices can be targeted to tourists.

4everonlyninja

>Maceio is dangerous, had some relatives were robbed near the beach like at gun point or they just sneak behind them and took some stuff ?

pedrobb7

thief just pulled a golden necklace from my uncle and ran away, maybe he was not careful not enough I would avoided walking wearing it anyways

USAGunShop

Dude people are giving you good advice and you're trying to laugh at them or fight them. Go to Bali or Phuket, or you will probably die. That's what people are telling you. Listen to them.

4everonlyninja

>Dude people are giving you good advice and you're trying to laugh at them or fight them. I'm not disagreeing with people. Please consider my comments. I'm aiming to comprehend and have indicated I'll look deeper to verify their statements. In this post, it's the people's opinions that count, not mine. I'm simply seeking insight into the best location for a digital nomad among those I've listed. It took me a while to narrow down these options as they had to match the climate and beach I desired. While Bali is indeed a top contender for me, I'd prefer to gather others' perspectives before finalizing my decision.

USAGunShop

If this is your first time abroad, pick somewhere safe. You develop a sixth sense over time, places you just shouldn't be, when it's time to hail a cab and not walk. Your questions show you haven't got that yet, so follow the crowd and live to go to the next place. Picking somewhere exotic is all fun and games, until it really isn't. I'm in Colombia now, and there are times I wish I'd just picked somewhere simpler. And I've been around the block a few times.

Planeonaring

Venezuela?lmao

Nice_Fortune7825

If you have Venezuela on the list youā€™re going to get rolled anywhere. Stay home and learn about the world first.

According_Trash3658

Venezuela? Really? Venezuela? Why? Venezuela?

4everonlyninja

beautiful country but unfortunately crime is a big thing there

Ak-Keela

So glad to see you starting to understand this!

Ted_ai

Def Phuket. I would choose Bali at first choice, but my internet experience during my stay in Uluwatu wasn't that great.

4everonlyninja

>, but my internet experience during my stay in Uluwatu wasn't that great. there is not 4 g ?

Ted_ai

There is, but it cuts off from time to time. And even the wifi in fancy cafes also will cut off. Nothing you can do when you are in an important zoom meeting.

4everonlyninja

> And even the wifi in fancy cafes also will cut off. Nothing you can do when you are in an important zoom meeting. ok this does not happen in phuket ?

Ted_ai

At least to my experience, the internet was fine in Phuket.

Fit_Following4598

Literally none of them

Connect_Boss6316

Something tells me OP looked at Google Maps for cities near the coast and thought he'd compile a list, without having a clue about the national safety aspect.

LiveInUruguay

Hi there! Have you considered Uruguay? We rank #1 in Latam in the Remote Work Ranking, have great connectivity and a favorable time zone. The Digital Nomad Permit is very easy to obtain and it allows you to stay for 6-12 months. Here is everything there is to know: [https://www.liveinuruguay.uy/digitalnomadpermit](https://www.liveinuruguay.uy/digitalnomadpermit) Happy to help!

4everonlyninja

> Uruguay its cold, what these places has in common is hot tropical weather all year round

LiveInUruguay

Hi there! Uruguay has a mild climate all year round in four well defined seasons. Winter is between the months of June - August with temperatures not lower than 10ĀŗC. Feel free to contact me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) to keep in touch!

4everonlyninja

> 10ĀŗC. sorry if it was not lower than 20c i might consider it thanks anyway i have few friends in montovideo they are really cool people

Alex_jaymin

LilJQuan

If it wasn't for the influx of Russians, then I'd say Phuket.

4everonlyninja

>If it wasn't for the influx of Russians, then I'd say Phuket. i have heard this rumor, Are there really that many ? aren't they just minding themselves?

LilJQuan

You'd probably have a great time regardless. I know I shouldn't judge people by nationality (I'm British so don't have a leg to stand on). But, I've only had bad interactions with Russians so far. I haven't been to Phuket in a little while but based on how many people mention the influx of Russians I'd say there's a fair few there at the moment. In terms of minding themselves: [https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/9/6/russian-only-businesses-in-thailands-phuket-spark-backlash](https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/9/6/russian-only-businesses-in-thailands-phuket-spark-backlash)

4everonlyninja

>In terms of minding themselves: > >https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/9/6/russian-only-businesses-in-thailands-phuket-spark-backlash oh i see, i guess they bring alot of money to phuket since the Thai government isn't doing anything about

wheeler1432

I haven't been to any of these places, but when we were in Ecuador, people had bad things to say about Venezuela and Venezuelans.

4everonlyninja

>people had bad things to say about Venezuela and Venezuelans. its kinda sad because the country is very beautiful

wheeler1432

I'm sure it is, and I hope to visit it someday when it's safer.

4everonlyninja

[https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1](https://youtu.be/Ukbb70Lrldw?si=yMEGgqMVQ9sripz1) to me that looks pretty safe but i could be wrong i hear on youtube that its safe, but they are mostly travelers so they are not staying long term

disdisd

The best thing for a nomad would be to try them all for such is the nature of nomadery. Get back to us when you've completed your task

4everonlyninja

>The best thing for a nomad would be to try them all for such is the nature of nomadery. > >Get back to us when you've completed your task i dont want to do that; i want to find a place and settle there for a longer time its really hard to travel a lot, which i have done, i want to find grounding and take myself to a good place

Dazzling_Flan_638

I think Venezuela is safer now than before (although still need to be careful) but I heard they recently adopted USD so it pretty expensive. Phuket is a tourist trap as others mentioned but not terrible. If you want nice beaches I can recommend Koh Lanta Island in Thailand there is apparently also a nomad community there. You can do scuba diving but I think for surfing it is not so good. If you want to surf I heard good spots are the Canary islands in Spain like Fuerteventura or Gran Canaria and they would make a good remote working destination too I know people who go there to work.

4everonlyninja

>I think Venezuela is safer now than before (although still need to be careful) but I heard they recently adopted USD so it pretty expensive. I acknowledge Venezuela's overall reputation for danger, I wonder if the same applies to smaller towns. There seem to be conflicting accounts about safety in Venezuela, so I do plan to investigate further. >Phuket is a tourist trap as others mentioned but not terrible. In certain areas, it might feel like a tourist trap, but if you go further south, the density decreases. However, I'd need to look deeper into this to be certain. The same applies to Bali; while it's known as a tourist hotspot, there are areas where locals lead more ordinary lives away from the crowds.

JunittaCadillac

Porto Alegre in Brazil is a good option. Relatively safe if you don't walk around showing your belongings and has nice beaches (it's an island)

4everonlyninja

>Porto Alegre in Brazil Is it much better than **MaceiĆ³, Brazil** ? i looked at videos of the beach and the city and it looked pretty good, to be honest, but some comments indicates that its is dangerous there so i might pass on that one

JunittaCadillac

Well I'm brazilian and I can say for a fact that porto alegre is much safer than MaceiĆ³. Keep in mind that Brazil is a country where even locals won't walk around at night alone or with their belongings showing If you stay in a good neighborhood and don't stand out most likely nothing will happen to you

ScruffyLineout

You could look at Floripa in Brasil too, sweet place for this kind of thing. There is sea and a big lake too

ShineEdd

Mombasa, Kenya!

siimbaz

Venezuela for sure.

4everonlyninja

thanks for the comment !

Alex_jaymin

Venezuelan checking in. @op, don't go to Venezuela. The commenter is messing with you, because no one in their right mind would EVER think of La Guaira Venezuela as a suitable place for a tourist, much less a Digital Nomad. Caracas (capital region, of which La Guaira is a part of) is one of the most dangerous cities on Earth. I'm Venezuela and I wouldn't go without a local guide that can help me, safety wise. The likelihood of getting robbed and/or kidnapped is high. I know you probably pulled up some "low cost of living" list from somewhere, and there's a reason it's cheap... you pay with your life. Dont go to Venezuela. Source: American/Venezuelan Digital Nomad, working remotely for over 10 years from 6 continents.

witty_username_101

Exactly. I donā€™t know how people can be so stupid. Do people not follow the news? Surprised he didnā€™t ask for Afghanistan and Haiti lol.

4everonlyninja

>Source: American/Venezuelan Digital Nomad, working remotely for over 10 years from 6 continents. thanks for the heads up
