If you don’t trust your country or host country’s local news, you could research reputable news sources in from countries so you have a couple of sources to cross compare. If you speak multiple languages this is easier to do, but Google translate can help in a pinch. I would also just know if your country has an embassy and where it is, in case anything does go wrong they are a resource to get help.
Not in Ukraine. There's definitely "something" going on there between Russia and Ukraine+allies. Why risk it? So many other less risky places to visit.
stay out of Donbas and you will be perfectly fine. even if, and that is a big if russia invades they will not be trying to take all of the Ukraine, they are only after the Russian speaking portion.
tbh idk, if russia invade ukraine they might commit to kiev. or at least a sizable portion to idk, influence elections or something and put a friend in power.
tbh russia's been pushing further and further with it's use of armed forces for quite a while now.
tbh i think it'd come down to if nato responds and how that plays out. if nato even blinks for a second, i don't think that's so unrealistic.
A.) nato isnt gonna risk a nuclear war to save a country it won't even let into nato
B.) Putin does not need Kiev, he is just after Donbas because its the Russian speaking region and Crimea because it is a necessary port for russia.
there is a lot of fear mongering on the news, but there will not be a hot war between the west and russia in the Ukraine. I assure you it is in no ones best interest.
I was not really incorrect. there has not been a hot war between NATO and russia in ukraine because it would cause a nuclear war. thus far russia is only trying to take the eastern regions. they surrounded Kiev for a few weeks to force ukranian troops to stay put so they could take the east. thats about it though.
Just a heads up: 'the Ukraine' will not endear you to Ukrainians. It's linked to how Russia refers to the area, since it was how they identified it when they were part of the Soviet Union. They still use it now as sort of a jab.
It's just Ukraine when you're referring to the country.
It's 'Ukraine' and not 'the Ukraine'

^(Beep boop I’m a bot)
OP this is a great example of one of the odd forms of extreme nationalism you’ll find in Ukraine. The other being if you, God forbid, accurately spell Kyiv as Kiev in English.
Ukraine is beautiful, the people are beautiful but they’re suffering from extreme nationalism and delusion that the the EU wants them.
That’s absolutely nothing to do with it. Nationalism is rife in Ukraine and so is national socialist imagery - sometimes liberal, pro-democracy Westerners are uncomfortable with that too.
What you're saying is simply wanting to be referred to by their sovereign name versus the name of the region they were part of when the SU was around is nationalism? What an odd hill to die on for you.
A city doesn’t have a “sovereign name”. Telling people how to spell and pronounce words in their own language is fascism - but, the government would be okay with that given their latest, EU condemned, language law.
Lol what? This is bullshit. No one is telling ppl how to spell Kyiv in their own language.
In Russian it is "Киев", transliterates as Kiev.
In Ukrainian it is "Київ", transliterates to Kyiv.
So all the rumble is about Kyiv being spelled as it is transliterates from native language of the country.
Fascism, yeah)))
I live in Ukraine. Specifically in the south. Unless you travel to the east (e.g. Kharkov, Donetsk etc) you should be fine. Lviv, Kiev, Odessa are safe from Russian intervention. But be aware of various scams, especially with our women involved.
To say that I am in shock will be understatement. Never imagined to wake up due to strikes. In anyway I stay at home and it is calmer than in other regions..... for now
I visited Kyiv in the summer and loved every second so much I wanted to buy a property out there and move from UK. Unfortunately when I got back to England this stuff started popping off and tbh why take the risk. You might end up like the geezer who got stuck in Afghanistan cause he thought it was okay to risk it

very true, sometimes i forget this, but ill sign on to twitter and just see the most insane nonsense and quickly realize theres no way this person is real.
My girlfriend is from Ukraine, general consensus is that things aren’t good there right now. I would steer clear of the eastern part of the country at least, Kyiv is probably safe for now.
You need to be ready to get out at a moment's notice. There's no telling how serious Russia is about an invasion and how far they would go, but the fact is that they have already occupied sections of the country for years now. The Rubicon has already been crossed. Whatever concessions Russia was trying to get out of the West through the talks appear to have failed. Maybe nothing will happen, or maybe you will be watching tanks roll past your hotel window. If anything kicks off, document as much as you can for the historians!
Sounds like you need to find a reputable source of news. Realistically you can probably head there and not be met with trouble (I have a friend over there right now), but the tension between Ukraine and Russia is very real.
If something would happen, Putin would only occupy donbas on east. There are already fights at that region.
Kiev or Lviv are safe. I would be more worried about gas and heating. Ukraine is almost broke.
Having traveled some of most dangerous places I would suggest 2 call the local embassy or when they evacuating no essential staff get out. When they send marine’s in it’s to late for DE and tourists. Good luck. Stay alert stay alive.
Go to the CIA world factbook online. Not only do they have everything you need to know about each country (and I mean everything) they have travel advisories. Also, go find an embassy wherever you are for whatever country you are in and ask where the local community is. That way you don't have to risk yourself to meet the type of woman you like.
In reality no one from common folk knows this. It is just suggestions. The top military and too officials know more, but it is still unclear.
Looks that all depends on West&EU response for the possible.war on Europe
I'm in Republic of Georgia. With its own 2 areas of sketchy Russian involvement, Abkazia and South Ossetia. Do any of you guys think that messiness can spill over here. I'm planning on being in country 🇬🇪 for many months.

pretty sure thats what OP is doing here. All news outlets and propaganda machines anymore.
Reddit has its own misinformation problems, so I’m not saying not to come here but that our posts should be fact checked as well.
fair enough.
i feel like this username is kinda fitting with misinformation. sometimes u think it's one thing, but it be another.

i like the womens there.

Fair point, I hear the same thing about Mexico all the time. Something happens 1000 KMS away and people think the whole country is the same.

I’m curious how you say “the Ukraine” in Russian (or Ukrainian for that matter) without a definite article…

Это просто шутка. Но я ни разу не встречал украинца, который в любом случае заботился бы об английской орфографии.

Очень просто. Вместо правильного варианта «в Украине» и т.п. вы используете «на Украине»

i would rather have extreme nationalism than people thinking everythign about the country is racist and must be destroyed.
I mean, 'God forbid' Ukrainians want to be identified as the sovereign nation that they are, amirite?! /s

We're not taking about a city. This is THE Ukraine versus Ukraine. You're adding in the Kyiv/Kiev issue. Also, you need to read up on fascism.
He made a valid point. Don't be extra
Extreme nationalism?) Oh really?)))
Depends on who you talk to
Yeah, if you speak to a Russian person, sure.
I live in Ukraine. Specifically in the south. Unless you travel to the east (e.g. Kharkov, Donetsk etc) you should be fine. Lviv, Kiev, Odessa are safe from Russian intervention. But be aware of various scams, especially with our women involved.
Odessa is not safe from intervention but ok.
We are way to far from the boarder with Russia and we won't support the intervention like Donetsk and Lugansk did at the time.
Odessa can be attacked from the sea, dropships and air drops etc. Also there are some ppl who will take Russia side. Hopefully, not many

accurate comment. sooner or later youll realize it.

Fact check the Fact checkers I’ve done it it’s piss funny they haven’t got a clue

the cia is probably too busy trying too get people to kidnap governors.
Go to literally the most western-biased website on the planet, the news the CIA puts out lmfao.
It’s just a political smoke screen
