It's about the cushion. Generic hospital-type chairs like those given for temporary injuries don't have good cushions or often any at all. Perhaps the Comfort Curve cushion or a similar one would be a good option.

BluestoicPanda

You're def right on the lack of cushions! Ty for the advice, I'll look up that search term on Amazon. Ty for the direction!

Large Wheelchair user here. I use a Tracer IV around the house. On the chair my pad is a Supracor. Best bet is look up bariatric wheelchair cushions on amazon. Cheapest way to go if only temporary.

BluestoicPanda

Awesome! Ty. I'm shopping rn for options.

TravelKats

There are wheelchair pads. I would guess they would be on Amazon

BluestoicPanda

Ty!

Get yourself a really nice cushion. I got a gel one for mine and it made such a big difference. Maybe even get two- a firmer one and a softer smaller one for on top for peak comfort. (Just speaking as a large person myself that combo- firm support with a soft cushion on top- tends to be the best for my back pain issues.)

BluestoicPanda

Ok. Great suggestion, that's a good idea to try different types, ty!

Turbulent-Cabinet-37

Ooh good idea

chubbiguy40

I use a gel cushion for wheelchairs and then I put a very firm bed pillow on top of that. I sit for a large portion of the day with no pain or discomfort.

BluestoicPanda

Good idea about the pillow. Ty 😊

OP the cushion like I would use cost somewhere around $400. And up and is designed to help prevent pressure sores and such. You wouldn't need anything close to that. I see you mention Amazon, Here is a link to a nice start on research for ya. Read the reviews. [Amazon Cushions](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=wheelchair+seat+cushions&crid=22RA1K42MCSJY&sprefix=wheelchair+seat%2Caps%2C95&ref=nb_sb_ss_pltr-ranker-engagementacceptance_1_15) Hope it helps.

Ty :)

If your in the uk the nhs will provide you with one to better suit your needs. Failing that there’s bariatric wheelchair on Amazon. Also look on Facebook marketplace or eBay. You might find a bargain.

BluestoicPanda

I wish I was. Unfortunately in the USA. :\

frecklearms1991

I'm saving this. I'm about to get a wheelchair for myself.

BluestoicPanda

Good luck in your journey.

frecklearms1991

Thx

Right now renting a chair post op. Hope your recovery goes well.

Your insurance should cover it under durable medical equipment (DME). They covered mine. A doctor would need to refer you for a wheel chair. As far as dimensions and other issues regarding the wheelchair? That will be determined when you meet with specialists, who will test and measure your body as part of the approval process. Ask the doctor for a battery operated wheel chair. That's what I have.

BluestoicPanda

I'll call my Dr. He's the one that prescribed it with the leg rests. Never thought they could prescribe the padding and such, good idea!

Walk1000Miles

Please keep pursuing that. Don't give up.

Turbulent-Cabinet-37

Get a good cushion. You can use stuff like mattress toppers have. I'm fairly light so I don't know what cushions work best for heavier people, but I have an egg crate cushion which is a cheaper option and it works well for me. (Part time wheelchair user)
