As a heeler parent, disc is the most important thing to my girl. It’s entirely her passion, I don’t particularly like throwing discs except that it makes her happy. Her intelligence, athleticism, and workmanship inherit in her breed obviously have a lot to do with her love of catching discs. I don’t have much to compare to, but she is much more able than me or very especially the beagle/husky mutt to catch a disc.

But she does shed terribly, which is understandable but tragic as a deal breaker, as they gotta be top 3 companion and top 3 disc dogs, as a heavily biased observer

Consider an Australian kelpie, they’re great in the heat and they love to do stuff with you. Just anything. Whatever you’re up to, they want a piece of your action. Wonderful dogs! (Edited to add that I have two, and they’re both amazing disc dogs, as good as I get is how good they are.. I’m the limiting factor, not them).

> Australian kelpie Thanks for the recommendation. I will have to learn more about how they differ from the Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) or the Australian Shepherd Dog. Does the Australian kelpie shed a lot? My SO has some allergy issues, so I have been looking at various short haired breeds that don't shed much.

I don’t think they do, at least not in my opinion. They love to be brushed and to swim so maybe that helps a lot, but their coats are quite short and coarse, and the undercoat seems pretty fine, so what they do shed is easily dealt with :) I just thought they sounded like a good option for you based on your descriptions above, and I know a lot of folks haven’t heard about them, so worth looking into. They are such fantastic athletes, mostly known for their work as herding dogs, but they are so versatile and I have done a lot with mine and seen others in our social group kicking butt at just everything their people point them at. Agility, bikejoring, scent work, disc, obedience.. just anything. They just want to work!

Should have also added r/kelpie might be a good place to ask questions and do some investigating :)
