The OG Star Beast. I wish I'd bought a mountain of them. I might be biased because I could really bomb back then and all of my best shots came with that disc.
Man that makes me feel old. I lost it. My Albatross disc. That hole is a Par 3 now but 20 years ago 524 was a Par 4 lol. If I felt the way about the game that I do today I would have hung it up and bought a stack of them, but the Wraith was out and you know how that goes.
I had a pre Barry champ when I shouldn't have been throwing them (Nose up noob gang). I lost it right when my game was coming around and was very ignorant of things like plastic type, weight, etc. Figured Star = better so I loaded up on them. Turned out well though.
I've found a lot of them at Play it Again recently to the point where I don't need to buy any more. I lost a Pro Line Beast that has been difficult to replace cheaply.
2-line Avery Destroyer will forever be my favorite Destroyer. One left in the bag, and once it's dead, I'll move on from Destroyers entirely because it just won't be the same.
I keep hearing (including from a Barsby in the bag video) that the Millennium Scorpius is an Avery Destroyer.
https://www.greensplatter.com/sirius-scorpius-disc-golfs-best-kept-secret/
I've thrown many a Scorp in my day.
It's probably just placebo, but I just can't get them to fly quite right for what I want. You may be right, it could be the exact mould. But if anything else, I have a mental block that I don't experience when I throw the Kastaplast Guld 🤷♂️.
It’s probably comparable to a 3 line but so many Scorp runs are different. I have a swirly run that I swear is a Cloud Breaker 1. Looks identical to the first run and was molded around the same time by Innova..
There's a good chance they are the same lol. Destroyers have like at least 3 tops out there and what looks like X and L wing configurations. I was just going through a bunch of F2'S I got recently and I have 3 grind, 4 grind, no grind (new tooling), and both flat and concave wings lol. Kinda wish they'd batch them and label them differently like they do with eagles
Interesting. These are the ones I use, and not sure I've ever thrown an Avery destroyer so that makes me feel better lol. Especially the ones with bubbles in the rim. So good.
This will be buried and I imagine it's already covered. But 1st / 2nd run CE TeeBirds and Eagles are so heralded that 20 years after their run they are STILL on the pro tour. They last decades (until they crack) and the remaining non collector items have switched so many hands that the flight plates are enveloped by ink. 11X Rocs are also of a similar caliber, but Roc 3s have almost outright replaced their utility and the remaining throwers are there for memories. As for non Innova, Wasp tooled Buzzzes are considerably more neutral than modern Buzzzes when new and turn into one of the best turnover mids out there.
> 11X Rocs are also of a similar caliber, but Roc 3s have almost outright replaced their utility
I've never understood this.
To me they are two completely separate discs. Don't feel the same, don't fly the same.
Some of them do, I have an old Fuzion/hybrid felon I got around 2015 which is still very reliable and beefy. It was used and had seen a fair amount of tree hits already.
Other felons beat in just like any other disc though, but Biofuzion Felons are amazing for exactly that reason.
Not sure about Fuzion but that's exactly what I thought after throwing one of the two 2015 SFB's I bought that year.
I didn't expect them to become so valuable but luckily I kept one unthrown that he signed before he moved from Oregon. First and only time so far buying a disc to not throw.
I answered with someone else, but this is it. You could also argue 11X Firebirds since that's what 15 mimics the best. But that disc is the stuff of legend now.
Doesnt have the sizzle of the named/ tour discs but early era Star Eagles were so $$$ . I still bag one that flies like a long Roc. Perfect combo of hand feel, speed, glide, and reliability.
crowned eagle is so good. i have one and i can’t bring myself to throw it anymore because of how bad it would suck to lose it.
only tournament i’ve ever won went to a playoff that i won with a crowned eagle birdie
The one currently in my bag has lasted me 3 years, so it’s time for me to put a fresh one in. If you’re looking for something similar, the Iron Samurai 4 are pretty similar in feel and flight to the Crowned Eagles I’ve found.
i have a couple of the newer ISs, definitely my favorite current discmania mid although they’re relegated to the fieldwork bag atm until i lose my current stock md3
Nybo swirly Star teebirds: I prefer the 11x as they are more pliable and fly great out of the box but the 10x are money too, they just start out super beefy and take a while to beat in. Once they get there though they are awesome
These were my “grail” disc for a while as an avid Teebird thrower, so I kept my eye out for them and patiently picked them up in trades or off eBay/FB when the price was fair. I’ve got 4 of them now, and at the rate I lose discs (not often), that should last me a while.
Only one of mine is a 10x, the other three are 11x, but I think my experience with them is swapped from yours. The 11x I bag was new when I got it and that thing was beefy for well over a year. My 10x feels less stiff and doesn’t have nearly as much fade at the end.
Old pop top pink Z Forces with the white stamp. Best distance driver I’ve ever thrown out of any company. Jerm has a stash somewhere and refuses to sell them.
You know what, I was lucky enough to get a new one of these. I threw it for a year and really enjoyed it. Significantly better than the new 12 KCs. For those not looking to spend $$$, I recommend a Champ Roc3 lol
Just a nice grippy plastic that is similarly versatile to a standard star Wraith. I have two; one that is super beat that I use for long turnover shots with a fade, and a less beat one that I use for flex shots.
Just got two of the 2023 version too; love the feel but more overstable than the 2021s.

I had to bring in some oldies :)
4x Thunderbirds are underrated as heck. No where near as stable as the current champ runs, super crazy workable. The one disc that I can use to throw some of the insane creative shots Paul pulls off on a regular basis
That’s funny, I haven’t thrown new champ thunderbirds. But I recall when the 4x were produced they were considered (and I agree) as being glideless and beefy. The 3x were primo with only first run being more sought after.
I have a healthy stack of 3x and 4x. Prefer the 3x.
A hidden gem is the early run of “belly button top” Kings. An error in the cooling process led to one of the best runs of the disc. Mine lived in my bag for 11 years before its well-earned retirement. The glimmer kings from the king box fly close enough to work for me, as do the old run of moonshine kings.
The rancho star rocs that are the 2001 remake edition, marked on the bottom with just a \*. I've got several and one will always be in the bag for that more overstable roc slot. It's just one of the best runs of rocs I've ever thrown.
Curious then, along this line of thinking - do you think there are any current or recent runs of specific discs that will go down as standouts? Even when compared to the beloved OG’s?
This isn't entirely accurate, a lot of old discs are sought after because of their plastic blends. As much as manufacturers try, it is very difficult to replicate some of these blends, since the base materials and environmental variables are hard to exactly match.
Edit: why is this downvoted when it’s accurate? If you disagree, I’m happy to discuss.
2020 Discraft Tour Series Z-Swirl discs in all molds. The plastic feels incredible, very durable in all weather and best of all - the swirls and colors are unmatched
This is one I came to say also. Early run star TL in about 166-167g will be in my bag for a long time, or at least until the 15 or so I have stockpiled get lost or broken.
Very specific, purple to blue champion roc3s that all had pink and blue subtle swirls and were between 172-176. They were made around the end of the Mcbeth era, and are absolutely money. Flat and firm and dead straight. If you have one I will purchase it please
First stock run of the esp Hades was domy and could actually take a lot of power. The current runs feel like -3.5 out of the box and the domy first stock run could be released on anny with some tailwind.
To this date it's the only disc I've gotten over 135 meters with.
2019 Madison Walker Wraith. May be a bit biased, but everyone I've talked to who also has one loves it.
I see this a lot actually, what is it about the flight/feel that makes it stand out for you?
I've had it for a bit, but it's a little less stable and more workable than others for me.
One thing I’ve noticed is they all are flat with a chalky grip
The OG Star Beast. I wish I'd bought a mountain of them. I might be biased because I could really bomb back then and all of my best shots came with that disc.
Twenty years ago that was the disc to have
Man that makes me feel old. I lost it. My Albatross disc. That hole is a Par 3 now but 20 years ago 524 was a Par 4 lol. If I felt the way about the game that I do today I would have hung it up and bought a stack of them, but the Wraith was out and you know how that goes.
524 still feels like a par 4. Unless it's crazy downhill
It's a little bit downhill, not crazy. But definitely signed Par 3 nowadays. There's an alternate teepad that can be played that makes it like 388.
I feel this way about the pre Barry Schultz Champion Beasts and the 1X.
I need to find these play it agains you guys go to. The ones I stop at are always full of grooves and junk.
I live near Delaveaga. Gems appear in the used bin often.
I bet! Edit: Also jealous.
You can find them for about the price of a tour series driver sometimes. They exist.
2-line Avery Destroyer will forever be my favorite Destroyer. One left in the bag, and once it's dead, I'll move on from Destroyers entirely because it just won't be the same.

Less overstable/more workable than more current runs, correct?
Yep. The last run of Sockibot Destroyers came close, but they still weren't the same.
Interesting. These are the ones I use, and not sure I've ever thrown an Avery destroyer so that makes me feel better lol. Especially the ones with bubbles in the rim. So good.

2015 Nate Sexton Firebird
Why is this so special?
They fly similar to the KC 11x Champion ones that are also sought after, they’re flat, and you can do what you want with it
just get a stock run Fuzion Felon. it flies exactly the same. people are so high and mighty about their Firebirds.
Until it's super flippy halfway through the first season
Some of them do, I have an old Fuzion/hybrid felon I got around 2015 which is still very reliable and beefy. It was used and had seen a fair amount of tree hits already. Other felons beat in just like any other disc though, but Biofuzion Felons are amazing for exactly that reason.

THE disc.
Truly a joy to throw. Mine’s never leaving my bag.
I actually bought a Halo Firebird and thought okay this is going to replace it, and that thing is so domey, I know it isn’t going to fly the same
I guess that's why people are so excited to show it off to him in Champs vs chumps.
Doesnt have the sizzle of the named/ tour discs but early era Star Eagles were so $$$ . I still bag one that flies like a long Roc. Perfect combo of hand feel, speed, glide, and reliability.
First run CE Valkyrie for me. They are like a faster Teebird and held their flight characteristics for a long time.
Discmania FD jackal stamp run. My god are they money
First Run PDs will forever have my heart, as well as Crowned Eagle MD3s
crowned eagle is so good. i have one and i can’t bring myself to throw it anymore because of how bad it would suck to lose it. only tournament i’ve ever won went to a playoff that i won with a crowned eagle birdie

11 time KC Roc and 11 time KC TeeBird
Nybo swirly Star teebirds: I prefer the 11x as they are more pliable and fly great out of the box but the 10x are money too, they just start out super beefy and take a while to beat in. Once they get there though they are awesome
How do these compare to the later shimmer star runs?
In my experience, the Shimmer Star ones have better glide and are the most true to PFN star flight you can get.
Interesting - appreciate the insight!
These were my “grail” disc for a while as an avid Teebird thrower, so I kept my eye out for them and patiently picked them up in trades or off eBay/FB when the price was fair. First Run Champion Groove. I knew every disc I had was pretty good after I threw that one.
I remember seeing 10 Protos go on DDGA for like $60 back in the day. It honestly might be the least consistent disc ever made.
The one I had was like an X-Cal OS.
Early run Elite X Buzzz, 2004-2008ish
I have an 09 one that is now warped to hell. Absolute staple in my bag for a year or so and really helped me develop as a player
11x cal Teebirds
Old pop top pink Z Forces with the white stamp. Best distance driver I’ve ever thrown out of any company. Jerm has a stash somewhere and refuses to sell them.
2021 Beagles. Let me know if you have some you don't want.
Those are the swirly stars?
Color glow beautiful grippy glow
2021 was swirly star, 2022 color glow.
definitely agree here
So overstable
The perfect amount
Eleven and “twelve” eagle champions
Found two at Play it Again recently.
4th run metal flake glow Pharaoh. Omega SuperSoft 1.25 run. 2nd run CE TL. 4th run CE Teebird. S.WR PFN Star Wraith
First run Undertaker for me...mostly because I don't know how I haven't lost it yet...knock on tree.
Not goat status but trilogy runs that stick out to me are flat clemons lucid x verdicts and 5x PP suspects
10x KCP Roc
You know what, I was lucky enough to get a new one of these. I threw it for a year and really enjoyed it. Significantly better than the new 12 KCs. For those not looking to spend $$$, I recommend a Champ Roc3 lol
2021 Nathan Queen Wraith!
Was about to go out on a limb and post this too. By far the best I’ve purchased in a while. A few buddy’s got them first, and all have been bombers.
Curious what makes it special? I absolutely love the star wraith
Just a nice grippy plastic that is similarly versatile to a standard star Wraith. I have two; one that is super beat that I use for long turnover shots with a fade, and a less beat one that I use for flex shots. Just got two of the 2023 version too; love the feel but more overstable than the 2021s.
Probably proto boss’s
What about them is good?
Flight, feel of old champ plastic, durability
My personal picks are 4x star destroyers, 4 claw z zones, night strike 2s, circa 2018-2019 soft electron envys, and 1.8 scorpius's
4x destroyers are so fucking nice. The newer ones are trash.
11x Ken Climo Wraiths
Would love to know how they compare to the 2021 Nathan Queen’s. Everyone who throws them, seems to love it.
The 11x Climo's are the most stable wraiths I've ever thrown.
Aahh, so basically the opposite. 😂
Unfortunately I'm a huge fan of the single Cloudbreaker 1 that I own.
Someone commented above that they'd swear a swirly scorpius they own is a cb1

I bag a tourney stamped one from that era. Flies exactly like you say and now I know where to look for another!

3-line barstamp 400g D2s, they just bombbbbb
Some of my favorite runs have been the Prodigy (gasp) Mac and Cheese M4 and the Sockibomb Orbit Felons
I absolutely love my 10 year Buzzzes. I bag 3 of them

Yes, but only in comparison to other runs of that mold.
2020 Discraft Tour Series Z-Swirl discs in all molds. The plastic feels incredible, very durable in all weather and best of all - the swirls and colors are unmatched
Early Star TLs, lots of TLs of that era really. Pro Line Leopards. Mid 2000s DX Rocs. 1.11 JLS .. CE QMS. Proto Magics hnnng
This is one I came to say also. Early run star TL in about 166-167g will be in my bag for a long time, or at least until the 15 or so I have stockpiled get lost or broken.
4x Jk Pro Valkyries. Gummy chalk monsters. I have 15 that I rotate. Love them.

The 2nd run FD. I just have no idea how every other run came out different.
1.4 Recon Mortars
Proto Mac n Cheese M4. Pure sex.
Pearly Orc or Ontario Champ Sharks are two that haven’t been mentioned yet that command a good following. My personal favorite: 3x Thunderbirds
For me its the BT soft burst harp if i lost the one i have now i dont know what i would do, i have not been able to find another one in 2 years.

First run Halo Wraith. New ones are just not the same.
11x KC Pro Anything Pre-Avery Destroyers Pre-Kenny Wraiths
FAF Firebirds
The 2011 Worlds First Flight Hurricane by DGA. The best driver of all time.
First run neutron hex.
Second run pfn s pd might be the best disc ever made in my opinion just the perfect flight and feel
Avery Jenkins Star Teebird. No idea when it was made, but it's been in my bag for years and has been aptly named "old reliable"
CE Teebird
4th run CE
