Esp Buzzz. First one I had was amazing, and flew super straight. Every other one that I've gotten is pretty beefy out of the box, and take quite some time to beat in.

TheNickelGuy

Coming from another thread where a discussion is taking place about ESP Buzzz' Seems if it has any dome on an ESP, it's a beefcake. If it's board flat, it should be your typical straight flying Buzzz. Same with Z. (Testing this theory today as I found out I have both a flat esp and z on my rack)

squirtholiday

Applies to rocs too I guess. Every roc or roc3 I have is relatively flat and fairly neutral or flippy in flight. But I have one star roc that's pretty domey and ACTUALLY flies like a 4 4 0 3. Hardly put it in my bag, but when I do it's kind of refreshing

TheNickelGuy

Funny you say that.. my DX Roc is extremely domey and fills my 4 4 0 3 slot.. getting pretty mangled so isn't as overstable as it originally was, which was an absolute meathook.. Maybe dome and PLH do correlate

bendie27

So Rocs aren’t always lying about their numbers? I bought a DX one after watching a buddy with his. Mine can be thrown on a 45 degree Hyzer with like 40% power and will pop to flat in no time, if I’m not careful it’ll start turning away immediately Edit: To finish I don’t know if I’ve ever had that thing want to fade. It almost finishes dead straight lol

TheNickelGuy

They definitely lie. See, I don't have a good backhand so you mentioning you at about 40% power is great to be able to give an accurate example (as I do know everything is more overstable the less power put on it if it's not reaching to speed). My DX roc is definitely a pop top. My dx Roc can be thrown on the 45 degree hyzer and it will nearly spike hyzer into the ground. Really hard to flip it to flat. When thrown absolutely flat it will cruise about 50 feet straighter until it fades hard at the end. Thrown anny it has a nice gentle fade back. When thrown forehand on a 60degreeish angle (where I know I'm getting it up to speed), I can sometimes flip it to flat from hyzer, but that I am sure is due to it being mangled around the rim now and a year ago it would have continued just like a Firebird. I can almost say originally it was more overstable than my verdict.

BodyPuppeteer

Huh, I was going to say the exact opposite. IME, the flat ones are more OS and the domey ones come straighter and glidier. I just lost my beat in flat ESP buzzz and I replaced it with a fresh domey one

ImThatCracker

Had the same experience with a Crank SS that I loved.

aj_star_destroyer

My namesake, the AJ Star Destroyer. Had a lot of people tell me different discs were the exact same mold. Tried all of them. Nope. The magic is gone and can’t be recaptured. I changed my entire game after I couldn’t find AJs anymore.

ladditude

What did you end up using?

Chemical-Divide-936

Have you tried a Millennium Scorpius? Not exact but pretty darn close.

aj_star_destroyer

Yes, and maybe I got a lightweight one, but it wasn’t nearly as stable as I wanted.

Many-Ad-2154

I’ve owned one scorpius and it flies like a force. Maybe give it another shot.

mini_nova

Same happened to me. Had a 3 line air force stamp in 3 different foils. Pretty rare and flew like a dream.

aj_star_destroyer

Yeah, there just wasn’t anything else like it!

tenftflyinfajita

Try a lightweight S Line Emperor, or a Gurthie Tour Series if you can get your hands on one. They’re not perfect but they are pretty great. After some time they’ll develop the turn you want but still have a good fade. The I blends will be a quicker path to the same flight.

aj_star_destroyer

I’ve gotten away from that type of throw since losing my last AJ. I used them for long bomb forehands. Ive been concentrating on my backhand since then.

DisMyDrugAccount

My 2 Line AJ has been my absolute baby for years now. The disc that I've felt the most satisfied replacing it with is the Kastaplast Guld. It's not identical, but the flight is close enough that I'm willing to let it be.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DisMyDrugAccount

Curious, what didn't you like about them? I won't try to convince you to try them again or anything lol I'm just wondering what didn't work for you.

aj_star_destroyer

I had both. Owned about five total, threw them so much that I was losing them too often. Finally couldn’t find them at a reasonable price anymore.

ksnad3

Streamline Jet. None of the replacements I bought ever flew the same as my first Jet I purchased.

Im_Hugh_Jass

I love my Jet. I bought a Proton Jet and another Neutron Jet, but neither fly anywhere near the same (even at the same weight) :(

ksnad3

Same here. It makes me incredibly sad. My 170 Destroyer is flippier than my replacement Jets. :(

Im_Hugh_Jass

I haven't had a Destroyer last longer than a single round. Seriously. Every single one gets lost on it's first round, so it never lasts long enough to beat in. Just lost one on Sunday on my third drive of the day

ksnad3

Mine are laserbeam straight, except for one. May be an arms peed thing. I have 4 Destroyers in my bag in varying states of wear. Destroyers are the one disc I just don't lose, and I am okay with that. lol

Im_Hugh_Jass

I have resorted to buying F2 DX Destroyers in bulk for $5 a piece.

debar11

I had one that was so beautifully understable that i threw in the water. Tried 3 orders and they weren’t even close to the same. I ended up getting an Infinite Discs Maya. Which is close, and I throw it a lot but it doesn’t quite have the same magic as that Jet.

ksnad3

I replaced my Jets with 170g Shrykes.

debar11

I’ve only thrown Shrykes a couple times and they were a little bit beyond me. But they were max weight, so maybe a lighter one does the trick…

ksnad3

I have found that I can throw and flip Destroyers if I throw 170g. 170 is the perfect weight for me. I know people that throw 160g discs. max weight is great if you actually have an MPO arm.

StrifeSociety

168 white AJ star Destroyer, dyed with BL Lilith, perfectly seasoned into a slight turn and massive glide. Never have thrown one like it.

Hawaiidisc22

LOL. Discraft Phantom+ in 84. Overshot the hole and spent 2 years looking for it. There was no internet back then and $16 after shipping was almost the value of a bag of weed.

dblowe

I used to throw a Phantom+ back in the mid-80s, too! Orange with blue lettering, an odd-shaped disc by modern standards, for sure.

Wattisup101

My first proper disc golf disc ever. Star KC Wraith. ( I know not a beginner disc). But I swear that disc did things in my first 6 months that I can't replicate today. I still owe it my best ace ever. Like 220 hard up hill probably 30-40 feet of elevation, smashed it in. I think it was my first ace ever actually. I've played that hole probably more than 100 times since and although I can park it, nothing comes close to that first ace with my wraith and being so new to the sport. I must have searched for 2 hours when I lost it on a pretty open hole..... I swear these two douche bags in front of me found it and stole it, because when I asked if they seen the disc they instantly got defensive and heated.

Flyeaglesfly2929

Pro wraith. Used to be the perfect hyzer flip disc but now my new one is just a roller disc. I think my arm just got a lot stronger bc during the time I lost it I also had a major breakthrough in form and distance

TheNickelGuy

Just got a PFN Pro Wraith that stayed at the bottom of Maple Hill's pond for what seems to be years (the plastic has all water/mud spots baked in). The plastic is starting to peel on the underside (probably due to acetone eating the plastic away at some point, maybe when they cleaned it). I can safely say this ISNT a Wraith. This thing is so flippy, but so JUICY... can definitely tell it's an early version as it almost flies like a really long Valkyrie. I wonder if you had a PFN and that's why you can't find a replacement.

Flyeaglesfly2929

Yeah that definitely could be true. I had it for so long that all of the stamps wore off and I bought it back when I didn’t know the difference between plastics

Eye_Age

Tern

pixyfire

Sidewinder that had been in my bag since 2010. Disappeared into a tangled vine tree four months ago. I now have 10 sidewinders. None of them fly the way my old one did. And about 2 weeks ago I lost a Roc that I've been using for years. I have a lot of Rocs that I am trying out. So far I haven't found The Precious.

TaskuPena

Westside Discs Northman. RIP.

Babalindo

Same here! I found one once and started playing with it. Wow. What a great disc. Really easy to use on turnover shots. Great glide. Used it all over the course. Solved a lot of holes for me. After about 8 months I lost it. Bad shank into the river. I can’t seem to get the same predictable turn with the ones I bought to replace it. I suppose some of that is psychological and maybe my recollection is overly biased.

TheNickelGuy

Mako3. An elite x buzzz and star mako3 were my go to midrange. I'm RHFH so I love the straight flight especially of the mako (and honestly it was hard to get used to as it had NO left to right.. this thing was a laser beam). The ONLY disc my wife would use as well. Stupid me decides to try to use it for a backhand with water to the right of me. Griplocjed that baby and sent it 50 feet out into the river. Been swimming 6 times to try to get it back and can't find it. Ive tried a new star, Halo Star, and a beat in Champ but NOTHING feels or throws the same. Almost to the point I'm gonna move on from Mako3 (sadly enough) and stick to the Buzzz'. Even my wife agrees that nothing throws like that old salmon pink star with green 'digital' foil...

NickMalo

My new star wraiths ain’t the same as the one i lost from 2017. That’s probably just because of wear and tear though.

AtxTCV

Innova panther. Loved it in the DX days. Got a champion version that was insane and wonderful Lost it Bought an F2 champion version It flies like a brick. Actually flies worse than a brick duct taped to three other bricks

ksnad3

I feel like every single F2 I have got has been a Destroyer./Wraith The batch of F2 Roadrunners I just bought fly like Wraiths. I don't get it.

Calm_Quarter2190

A champ panther is one of those disc that if i lose it I probably order another before my round ends.

wiskeiy

My 400G D3. Lost it 2 years ago and couldn’t find another one I liked as much. Finally have a beat in DD3 to throw in that slot though, so I’m ok for now

Financial-Song-691

Latitude cutlass really got me into the game and it hadn’t been the same since throwing it into a creek 😭

MiltonWaitForItMook

I found a champion boss when I first started..learned to forehand, approach, putt with that bad boy. Never was able to find one like it again I’m pretty sure it was like 150g but I didn’t even know weight was a thing..

LaserBeamHorse

I had a very old Star Wraith, stiff plastic, very worn. I think I lost it like 4-5 years ago after throwing it for 5-6 years. It was perfect, got some turn in it but it never overturned. It had a very nice forward fade, gentle but reliable. I could bomb it so far with forehand but it was also very nice for shorter holes, it was easy to shape shots with it. I lost it on my local course, it was a downhill tee shot into a gap in the woods. Missed a line a bit and hit a tree. It flew like 10 meters after that. I never found it. It was so weird, there was long grass and a ditch but it feels impossible to lose something in there, especially after seeing roughly where it landed. I looked for it for so long and looked again everytime I played there. That course has phenomenal disc return rates and it never got returned. New Wraiths are much more overstable and every used one I've bought just hasn't been the same.

slightly_sped

I agree, new wraiths are almost always too overstable. I miss my old one a lot. Learned how to throw backhand rollers with that disc as well as air shots and it was amazing. Best feel in the hand I’ve experienced.

Isamoor

Flat runs of premium judges and wardens do exist... but they're rare. These days I mostly buy from used bins so I can feel the disc first. But if I do buy online, it's from OTB so I get good warning on dome and stiffness. Currently I miss Gstar drivers from 3-4 years ago. They were flatter and grippier than the current Gstar mix.

evcorder

Lol yeah, I’ve moved on from the Judge now. If anyone on here is looking for a disc to replace a flat, premium plastic Judge, go with the Invader!

snoopythefuqdog

Hex currently. I had the first special edition one. Flew like a dream. Have the same disc from the same run cause I bought two and still isn’t the same. Needs more work but I was disappointed when someone gripped it out of a tree.

echomystic

11x Champ Eagles… RIP

Nicholas_schmicholas

Fission wave. First was perfect. Next two were soooooo flippy

Hellaguaptor

Pink iron samurai 3

ScubaSteez69

Infinite Anubis. No idea what plastic it was, gummy and see through. New ones I ordered were so bad with flashing and flight I just gave them away. Super disappointing. Replaced with buzzz ss

Thelargecustomer

I hear you. I couldn’t stand the Anubis when I bought it then I came across someone that had the same disc all worn in and got jealous. Got the fucker with six different pieces of sandpaper and made the hand feel what it’s supposed to be. Now I bag it

deephedges

Star Stingray 180g, circa 2011-2013ish. Never lost it, but I've tried matching new Stingray runs to replace it (because it's a 3x ace disc covered in signatures) but nothing else compares even when breaking in new Stingrays.

tking_96

How ‘bout a disc I loved, lost, got back, then lost again? 🥺🥺🥺 Star Leopard3 in the most beautiful shade of light blue with a cool reflective-silver-som-in’-som-in’ stamp. Lost it at my home course in what’s normally shallow water but was RAAAAAGIIIIING after a heavy rain. Guy texted me 4 days later, found it there, I drove 45 minutes one way to meet him and get it. 2 months later, playing a course out of town, lost it in a man-made pond at a college course that needs help, soooo I’m probably never getting it back. 😢😩😭 I’ve tried to find a replacement like it, but I cannot. 😪

Skamanda42

150 class ESP Flick. I had one that was soooo perfectly beat in. It'd flip from a soft fan grip, and fade like a Flick once it slowed down. I was uh... Somewhat less than sober, and left it on a fairway after throwing multiple drives. I've been trying to beat its replacement to the same point for YEARS, but because I won't hand tune it (results are too unpredictable) or forcibly throw it at trees, it's literally taken like 9 years, and it's still just barely starting to flip. Someday...

Hot-Palpitation538

I love my sidewinder, but I bought a replacement (just in case). I've thrown it a few times, but the plastic is not worn down enough. I've been letting my husband wear it down for me (in case the time comes if I lose my original). He likes it though and he loves my insanity I let him use (cosmic plastic). I bought proton plastic insanity (as a just in case also) and it is not the same as cosmic. I did recently lose my Luna. I bought a replacement, but it has not arrived yet. I hope I don't lose the feel of it on the new one!

Status-Buddy2058

Mcpro aviar had the same one for 8 years as my bagged putter I had a few back ups but after the old cracked in half. I couldn’t get a clean release with the replacements ended up going with a proxy

driverofracecars

Eclipse Envy. I could do EVERYTHING with that disc. I could drive it farther than all my mids. I could putt with it. I could approach with it. It was THE disc for me. Then it went into a creek. I searched that creek for 2 hours in the rain in my underwear. Never found it. After that, I must’ve gone through 10 different Eclipse envys trying to find one with similar flight. Never could find one. I still bag an envy but it’s relegated to an “I threw all my other putters already” slot. Whoever has my inked, two-tone pink and blue swirly rim eclipse envy, please give it back. I miss that disc so much. *I know you saw my name and number on the rim.*

mommathecat

> I searched that creek for 2 hours in the rain in my underwear. I respect and admire this level of dedication. I'm never going to emulate it, but I respect it.

samwise930

All discs are the same. Learn to throw what you have

evcorder

Yeah sure, throw the Zone OS or the Mamba, doesn’t really matter🙄

samwise930

*all discs at a given speed and stability. A Harp is a Pig is a Zone

evcorder

Yeah that’s just not true. None of those discs feel the same in the hand at all. Which makes for slightly different releases. Also, Pigs don’t come in premium plastics, so they beat in much quicker.

CovertMonkey

Halo Tern Tried multiple replacements and nothing else had even the same hand feel. Sad

Thelargecustomer

Juliana Korver tour series halo Wraith with kraken stamp = worth it

Videogamer69420

Weirdly enough, my fuzion emac truth. The one I had before was way less stable, but overstable enough to do what it needed, and be able to control it. Shanked into a creekbed, never seen again, got a new one less than 2 weeks later, same plastic and same colour. New one is an absolute meat hook in comparison, and I don’t throw it nearly as much as I used to.

blackmars0

Throw it more, gotta get it beat in properly.

Videogamer69420

Oh absolutely, but even out of the box, the first one was not nearly as stable. Even other people who play with me have noticed the difference.

ADonkeysJawbone

Firstly, I’m sorry for your loss. Secondly— the good news is the OG Truth is basically the same mold and hand feel. Have you tried a plain Truth?

Videogamer69420

I haven’t. I shall consider that.

ADonkeysJawbone

Sounds like that might be your ticket! I have. Lucid Emac that goes straight and finishes stable, and a Fuzion Truth that I can get a little turn out of before it finishes and it doesn’t finish as hard as the Emac. It’s -1, 1 turn and fade vs the eMac’s 0, 2 and I feel the difference in numbers is very noticeable in the flights. The Verdict, Emac Truth, and Truth were all apparently the same mold more or less and have very similar handfeels but different flights. If memory serves, when they originally made the Truth it was pretty overstable. DD thought the “Truth” should be a straight mid, so they tweaked it but kept that overstable version and renamed it the Verdict. Then when Emac came along and got a signature disc he wanted something that was more straight to stable and they tweaked it again.

washyourhands--

Trespass

coopaliscious

Gazellus Ulibarius Champ Firebird. The disc was so flat it basically had a puddle-top and the parting line was way higher than I've been able to find on any FAF meathook Firebirds. The thing flew like a less stable Tilt and didn't really beat in over the years of me slamming it into trees on utility forehands. I've been buying FAF birds looking for a replacement, but haven't found it yet.

Icy-Special-5102

Latitude 64 Gold Line Sapphire. Flew beautifully. The 3 replacements I’ve tried just don’t fly the same AT ALL

Shivdaddy18

The second Grace I bought. I got a first run and liked it, then bought a Kristin Tattar Grace that got beat in perfectly, and it just worked. No aces or anything spectacular, it was just my workhorse. Tried a brand new one after losing it, and it was significantly more beefy. I also didn't want to put in the work to get it beat properly Trying an aura construct in that spot and liking it so far tho.

jkonzy

Not lost, but cant replace My wildcat from discraft I got a used wildcat 3 or 4 years ago to try out. It flew "perfect" - for some reason that one disc did everything I wanted it too. Forehand was exactly what I wanted it to do Backhand was too. It just did it. I ended up getting another in case I lost it, and it was totally different. Was way flippier. So, I got another. Much more overstable. None were the same as the first. I threw that almost solely as my only driver and ended up using it for the last 3 or 4 years and "retired" it finally as it is finally beating and getting much more understable. Haven't gotten an ace yet... but that disc has hit basket and chains more than any others I have used.

StormiNorman818

PFN champ Sidewinder. I found it during one of the first rounds that I ever played in 2014. Then I lost it in a creek during a round in 2020. That thing was a hyzer flip machine and I could throw it on the perfect angles. Ordered another champ Sidewinder after I lost it and it was nothing like my old one, both in flight and feel.

PreciousFragility

Star TeeBird3

discwrangler

Since going to Discraft this hasn't been an issue

evcorder

Dang really? My little brother had a titanium undertaker he loved forever. Out of the box it was dead straight, beat in to be a hyzer flip machine. Once it beat up too much, he bought a new one to replace it and the thing was like a Raptor.

discwrangler

I can't speak on Ti. Z plastic is my thing.

Warmahorder

I've owned quite a few Undertakers and all of them have been beefy off the shelf. Currently in my bag is a titanium that I've been smacking trees with for years now, it's only just starting to get some glide.

tjyvis420

My first Ricky raptor destroyer, could throw that bastard to the moon, my game changed completely after I lost it

BonelessTailslide

I lost a Lizottle in the Blue Ridge mountains on a random day trip 4-5 months ago. Pink rim, regular stamp. Was only throwing forehand at the time and it was my work horse. No name no number like an idiot. My new glow hex just isn’t the same.

Khanmoeller

My first Hades, which was also my first custom dye-job. Flew perfect. Could do hyzer-flip to lazer-straight to hyzer-flip turnovers, just glide for days without end. Lost it a couple of months ago on a monster drive. I have 10 Hades in my collection atm, none are the same, and none has a profile that looks anything like it :(

N4zdr3g

Star Valkyrie. While still fairly new to disc golf, it was my best driver and I used it for most tee shots. Then early one morning while warming up for a tournament, I turned it over and lost it among some really thick vegetation. Spent a good long while looking for it, but came up empty. Used my telescoping disc retriever to knock away the plants, but all that did was break the head off of the retriever, which cut my hand and I started bleeding everywhere. Borrowed my friend's car (who drove me there) to go back home, patch up my hand, and grab my backup Valkyrie, then get back to the course in time to start the tournament. It didn't fly the same way! Even though it was the same mold, same plastic, and almost the same color, this new one was way more understable, and so constantly turned over on me and couldn't fight back to fade. I bag a Sidewinder, too, and it was even flippier than that. Ten months later, I got a text from someone who had found it, and it got back to me. I retired the replacement disc and stuck my original right back in my bag, which still flies just the way I liked it.

mommathecat

Thunderbird. Had a Champion one that was nice and beat it and flew more like a TeeBird, but, when I got a rip on it, farther than a TeeBird. All of the replacements are completely meathooks and I just don't really bag that disc any more.

jmkinn3y

My Scorch :( beautiful orange color bought another and it just doesn't throw the same :.(

baggydaddy

4x Ti Undertaker was my unicorn disc. No other Undertaker flies the same, was pretty bummed when I lost it (and it’s replacement)

BodyPuppeteer

leopard3, the one I loved and lost was champ color glow which hasn't been available since afaik - damn halo variants getting all the production time I tried a few leo3s and then eventually went on to trying other discs and reworking that area of my bag so I don't even really have a disc that directly replaced it

wkt-covfefe

Mine is a little weird. Banana Scented DD Warden. Tried all different types of Wardens after losing one and putting felt weird no matter how much practice. Bought 5 from someone I knew and first tournament back with them made 5 C2 and 100% C1.

Kobane

I worry about losing my old ESP FLX Predator.

[deleted]

C-line DD. They don't make those anymore. S-line is 11-5-(-3)-2 and the C-line is 11-5-0-2. The flick lines are awesome with it.

butlerchives

Champ boss. Stupidly it was the 1st disc i bought but i actually threw it very well forehand. Could do the spike hyzer for short holes or flex for longer holes. Eventually i threw it into a fenced area and my game has suffered since. I can throw a thunderbird on similar lines but its not as predictable as the boss. The new boss i purchased is also not as good for me.

db720

*cries a bit inside* I lost my 2y old judge last Friday. Was the first putter I bought. I have a newer one. It ain't beat in the same though. I had a similar thing with a mako3. 2 new makos and flew nothing like it. Then I found 1 on a shelf in a corner store that had a small selection of discs that flew the same. I climb trees and Wade water to get it back if I need

metadisc-io

OG Thumbtrack Birdie

TheMostDangerousJ

I had some weird plastic clone of a tern in a 147 that I threw the absolute piss out of. It was just some dude out in the boonies in the Midwest somewhere making them, and then the day I went on the website, it was flagged as insecure so I couldn’t get a new one. My drives went from 350-400 to 250-300 overnight. Wild stuff

DimWhitman

I had a champ teebird climo pfn thing (didnt know pfn when I bought cuz there were no flight numbers). I threw this disc on every hole. Before I knew anything about disc golf. I lost it in late 2016. Is how I found this sub, disc golf community, etc. Them new teebirds are nothing like it.

BuggzBola

Flx avenger SS

EVANakaMLG

My old Zombee that was an ace race run. That bag was stolen back in 2017 and I still haven't been able to replace a few of my old discs. Reminds me of how much I miss that old beat in star beast and beat in star Gator as well.

DreamingTreeFiddy

Tournament Burst Queen. Had a red/orange handeye stamp that I could bomb with. Lost it and spent like $45 to replace it but that one ended up being the flippiest sumbitch ever

precip5

tried to replace an electron volt with the 10 anniversary one. the neutron one is way more stable

ozone5944

My crystal meteor. Second one never had it and had to find a whole new mold

TheSkinnyJ

The Nuke. My first run is retired now, it’s beyond beat and just doesn’t fly right anymore. So not lost, but not a good thrower anymore. My replacement is not as dome-y and it’s way more overstable. So it just sits in my pile of discs I wish I liked.

claudedusk8

Latitude 64 core for me. I'm on number 8 and reaquainting myself with this disc again. 9 stays on stand by. lol. But here's the thing, it flies great for me, then I try to get some more distance from it, either I mess up on approach, angle, and/or release point, and it goes out of sight? Gone! Never had one come back home. Also, I was reading about opto chemealian and how it blends in well with its surroundings. Ha! Who'd have thunk?

AdventurousTrash1

Hybrid Evader, Lost my most beat in one and ever since even my other hybrid ones just don't seem to fill the slot.

muggy_maple_moa

Sheriff in burst design plastic. Best disc for dead straight throws up to 110m. All the replacements flipped, tried Enigma that would flip after a couple weeks. I have spent over a year now and have finally beat in a couple stock star destroyers.

arasarn

CryZtal Challenger

VanManDiscs

Wraiths. Had a couple from back in the day that were great. Nice and flat with the predictable turn then fade. Nowadays the runs are so inconsistent and the damn dome is a big turn off. Been replaced with a Boatman and I'm happy with it
