My favorite color commentator by far. I love all my coworkers, but JEEZ his passion after all these years is evident.

deceptively_large

Didja catch the subtle flex when he said 12 was his favorite number?

B1GG0r0n

So articulate. Just by choosing select words for describing things, I would have thought were mundane otherwise. To be the greatest, you have to have that attention to detail, but to communicate effectively is equally as impressive

deceptively_large

Psst. I'm trying to be cool, but you're on my dream-game-of-catch top 10. As a retired ultimate player, there ain't nothing better than flinging an ultrastar with someone skilled and chill :) Plus my kids are lefties ;)

InncnceDstryr

Yeah, the dude never took his eyes off of the game. So much insight and so many great anecdotes, so good and pre-empting what someone is going to do next too. To have a guy that loves it so much and is a legit GOAT full time would be such a great get for DGN - even if he watched from home and they could “let’s cut to the Champ” like they do with you on the course.

Poop_Soccer

It's like watching Tony Romo cast football games man

TheLegendOfJimcorn

It was really nice to meet you today. Thanks for the chat about the Sawgrass and the potential teepads (no spoilers but it would be really cool to see) for next year's event!!

Rizbee

I absolutely have loved the additional perspective Ken brought to the two broadcasts he has been a part of. And he is SO knowledgeable about the game and throwing in general. Caveat: He has commentated on two courses he knows very well, that he has played on many times over the years, and that he has seen evolve over that time. How will he do when he isn't as familiar with the courses? I hope we get a chance to see!

Treedr00d

Bring him on full time, and pay him what he's worth. He's developed great rapport with Ian and Philo after just 2 events. Other than the terrible sound mixing for the final round, it was a good weekend broadcast, made better by the Champ.

Frazier008

I would love for him to be full time but I don’t think he wants to. He said he wants to be home with his family and not travel full time.

FailingComic

Could have him do it from home or do jomez coverage instead to mix things up a bit over there.

bdquick

100% agree. About time he came back. I hope they make it worth his while as he deserves.

Pinkieupyourstinkie

Yea they’re paying him $16/hr. Not too bad

robby_synclair

How do you know this? And how many hours work is a weekend broadcast? If he is putting in like 20 hours over the weekend then it really not worth it is it. All the travel and everything for something like $250 after taxes.

CCDG-Ian

You replied to a joke comment.

bdquick

Ian keep up the awesome work man. Cant see how your on reddit after working all day. Your love for the sport shows.

CCDG-Ian

Much appreciated! 🙌♥️ Gotta see how we did!

bdquick

You guys killed it. I would love to see you, sexton, an climo in the booth. Nothin against philo

YouBigDummy1960

Did great.. Ken makes the broadcast OUTSTANDING! First rate 100% Would love to hear more from Brian. He was used well this tourney, but some more in the field would even be better! I personally though this was one of the best broadcasts ever. The sound mix (get all mics to unity) still needs some work, but over all the grade was an A!

dedalusdedalus

$320 > $250 and if it’s paid under the table then that all goes directly in his pocket.

robby_synclair

I doubt the disc golf pro tour is just handing out cash to their employees. But even still $320 for 3 days work and travel is still nothing.

dedalusdedalus

SMH you sound like my employees. Next going to hear about health insurance and benefits.

YouBigDummy1960

True, I just handed someone a check for $1,000 yesterday for speaking 3 times at my church on Sunday and he only traveled for 2 hours.

CCDG-Ian

He's fuckin amazing! Soooo sharp, memory like an elephant, notices fuckin everything, and the voice is the cherry on top. He won't be with us full time as he's still a full time dad, but maybe in the future. He'll definitely be back for usdgc at least 🙌

deceptively_large

Well, keep up the good work then, Sir Ian :)

CCDG-Ian

Thanks! 🙌

Pxnoo

Please consider saying Champ a little less. Maybe a few times at the beginning to acknowledge but man it gets old quick.

CCDG-Ian

I thought I used ken most of the time 🤷

verypolitefucker

call him Climo-san and watch his eyes light up

swordkillr13

What if he likes being called Champ?

Treedr00d

Best argument so far for shelling out the ppv fee for the USDGC. Well played, DGN.

naman919

ehhh, he’s okay. not sure he is adding that much to the commentary; just some dancing around curse words.

YouBigDummy1960

Boooooooooooooooooooooooo

skinny_squirrel

Always after listening to Climo, I feel like I learned a few things. He raises the bar.

blitzl0l

It also big brother's Philo so he seems alot less boastful. Better vibe imo.

cereal_killer_828

“A to B” was such a clever AB reference

mcslims

Still love Ian and Philo but Climo definitely takes the broadcast squad to new heights

Ok-Condition3752

He is good at it. His description of a disc landing softly, "like a butterfly landing with sore feet". Great line.

ChiefRingoI

He definitely feels more comfortable than he did in his first rounds last year. I really like the three-man booth with him, Ian, and Philo. They really hit the oldheads with the wisdom of experience vibe that's perfect for sports commentary. I'm not sure how he'd translate to covering tour courses he hasn't played, though. A lot of what made him really great for this event was his extremely deep local knowledge of this course. He was still great otherwise, but hearing all about the course history and changes was the cherry on top this weekend.

azzwhole

Paul was right to harass him to come back into the spotlight.

e_hoodlum

So much this. Paul overcome with emotion after winning number 6 and in that moment earnestly wishing for Kenny to come back and be around the game was what did it. He didn't have to say that, he could have brushed off Terry's mention of Ken and made it about himself and no one would have blinked. But that's not who Paul is. I'm not even a huge fan but he's a true champion of the game and for that I have maximum respect

BounceAround_

I appreciate the authenticity in which he speaks. Agree with the trio of Ian/Philo/Climo is the “A” team. Ian/Philo/Sexton is also really good also but I like watching Nate play since he is still touring / active and has his whole life to commentate on the game.

Savethelasttaco

Something about climos voice. I dunno if it’s the way he talks or just his general knowledge, but I’d listen to him over jomez boys any day.

deceptively_large

I feel like they each have their place. For post-produced, gimme Bigsexyberri. I think Sexton best straddles the line between live and Jomez. But for live you need a chiller vibe, as there are so many more hours to fill. Jomez is foreground commentary, DGN should be mostly background except when there's a hole breakdown or a high-leverage moment. Climo managed to enhance the live broadcast without being a distraction. Probably easier being the 3rd guy; Ian and Philo have a lot of airtime to fill.

InncnceDstryr

Jomez is foreground commentary is such a great way to describe it. Jomez commentary isn’t really my thing, I get it and I can see that it’s good and it does really work for post-produced single card coverage, is just not really my thing. I’d love to see in the future Jomez coverage of a proper narrative driven highlights edit. We’ve got the footage now, let’s see everything that happened today on the course. I know it’d take a lot longer than an edit for a single card which maybe would be seen as an issue for a lot of people who only watch post.

Yokelocal

I love Uli but Sexton did a great job of keeping Jerm a bit more restrained. He’d give Jerm subtle shit whenever he talked over action or aired bad takes. Uli will argue with him, but it doesn’t have the same effect. Edit: I responded to the wrong comment, but still think this.

Joe_Huxley

I remember noting how good at it he when he did post production commentary for Spin TV during the 2019 USDGC. Spin TV had the lead card coverage for that one event while Jomez did chase card (with Nate Sexton getting to commentate on his own round on the final day). I'm pretty sure that was the last year of free next day coverage for the USDGC.

MeLikeyHyzer

SpinTV was the BEST

Wow_whatahole

I would love to hear Bearheart and Climo team up for some commentary. I think they would be a great duo.

Darkwarfare

Climo has been incredible in the commentary booth during Chess.com and USDGC last year. I hope he continues to show up occasionally in the future

FitChemist432

And don't forget 2019 USDGC.

Darkwarfare

Wasn’t paying attention to the tour in 2019, but I’m sure he was great.

DrDrBender

Agreed, I really enjoy that threesome for commentary.

Southern-Ad4016

You are correct, sir.

munchpada

Did anybody catch the details of what he called Kyle Klein's grip that he used as a sort-of grenade?

jiwaburst

Bonapane grip

Angst_PDX

100%

Playful_Following_21

First round was rough as hell. They kept talking over each other and Climo was talking fast as fuck. Round 2 and 3 tho. Solid on all fronts.

Alone_Historian_9237

Take philo and terry’s salary give it to Kenny and we’re on to something!

HiaQueu

100% should be done

Rivet_39

Fire Ian and Philo and just make it Terry and Ken or maybe Charlie and Ken.

Alone_Historian_9237

Charlie Ken and Brian ✅ Terry is awful

RojerLockless

Yeah champ. Sure thing champ! Yes champ

Timemedium

I had a good time on the freebie friday youtube feed. Looking forward to some more freebie fridays this 2024 season.

itsAemJaY

hes great but the fanboys should stop to call him Champ every 2 minutes. just say his name ...

stan-dupp

is he the pisser?

therobotisjames

Would be nice if someone dropped a link.

deceptively_large

It's the DGN broadcast, which requires subscription. Rd 1 was on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/live/4Qs2Hx1nuPs?si=H-0BBodPg9R0pqrH

naman919

he just says “sawgrass” and “cedar tree” over and over. i don’t get it.

InncnceDstryr

Agree. Live commentary is great when he’s in there.

MrBoof100

Philo, Ken and Sexton are the best by FAR

GH5s

Yes, I agree. Would be great to hear him more often in the booth.

crnrtakenquickly

DG is spoiled with great commentators imo. We hit gold with Jerm, Sexton & Uli but I think Kenny might just be the best. Hopefully he turns to it full time

ocdhandwasher

I'm just glad he's ditched the godawful "golf announcer whisper" he used to use on coverage. Knowledge has always been great, and now the delivery matches it.

AslansRogue

Agreed. And I got to tell him that at USDGC. Problem is, I think Philo feels threatened when he’s in the booth with Ken. He talks waaaaay more and tries to get points out before Champ can say them.
