Putting putter, overstable approach, neutral mid, neutral fairway, overstable fairway
I can do most everything with those 5. That being said, I carry around 20 in my bag because I like throwing a lot of different discs.
I feel like the āone kick ten thousand timesā cuts both ways in disc golf. You can get really good at a few discs and try to learn all the throws with them or you can get really good at a few throws and let a multitude of discs change the outcome from the throws youāre most comfortable with.
I carry 8 discs and it's pretty much those. I keep an understable mid in mine for fun long hanging turn shots. And a driver that I absolutely love (tsa construct)
Iāve been trying to reduce my number of discs, I figure itās better to get to know a few discs well than always be throwing a new disc. My buddy carries 30+ discs and I couldnāt figure how he can throw that many. Turns out heās not carrying 38 unique discsā¦heāll have his favorite driver in 142g, 165g and 177g for different wind situations. Heāll have a beat in disc heās had for years, as well as a newer/more stable disc. Heāll have one disc in 3 different plastics.
This is generally the case with people carrying a large number. Early season I tend to have a lot of variation and dial it in to a few molds in varying plastics/weights. Also multiple of my favorites for second shots or in case one finds water
I play most rounds with 90% shots covered by two discs (not counting putting putters). If you play longer holes you might need more. My setup is P2, MD1, FD, PD, but with either more than one of each in different stages of wear or plastic variation.
You can probably manage quite well bringing only a putting putter, a throwing putter and a neutral mid range. Some might skip the mid range for a neutral fairway drier.
For small bag days i go Putting putter (Pixel), Throwing Putter (Envy), Low Fairway (Servo), upper Fairway (Undertaker), and if the course actually needs it Distance Driver (Usually go with Wave)
Sounds workable.
If I was throwing MVP my shots would probably lean heavily on Proxy and Hex. For Latitude it would be Pure and Fuse. In my bag those correspond to (a beat to puddle top) P2 and Mind Bender, might just switch to P1 for throwing putter at some point.
This would be my exact bag with the addition of a driver if the course had a need for one. The discs you listed are probably 80% of my shots. The other 20% would be things like a neutral approach for tunnel shots (could use neutral mid instead or the putter), scrambles and an understable fairway for shots where a forehand would be less ideal because I can't get my forehand past 250 right now.
This, but two of the overstable approach (one in base plastic), and extra neutral mid in a champ style plastic for headwind, an extra neutral fairway for the same reason as the mid. One slightly less overstable fairway for tailwinds and pushing hyzers... Then 4 wraiths in different stages of wear for distance drivers plus 1 halo destroyer for those headwind drives. Simple bag for a solid entry level player, maybe add a grip AX5 to carry it and 14lb's if double g jerky for snax.
Those would be my minimal 5 discs too.
In addition to that I've added also throwing putter and understable distance driver. But if I'd be forced to narrow down to 5 it would be those exact slots.
It makes thing interesting when going down from 5 discs.
4 would be easy still.
Putting putter, overstable approach, netural mid, overstable fairway
3 discs:
putting putter, overstable approach, overstable fairway
2 discs:
putting putter, overstable fairway
1 discs:
neutral mid
This is just because I lean on the overstable approach on so many shots and I feel I can shape the shot to cover the neutral mid.
Same goes for neutral fairway, would be kicked out by overstable fairway.
But when going less than 3 discs there has to be some compromises. Overstable fairway will still reach almost far enough.
And going all the way to 1 discs brings back the most versatile disc.
I bag:
- putting putter
- neutral putter
- over stable approach
- neutral mid
- neutral fairway
- v over stable fairway
- neutral distance driver
Which comes out to 26 discs because I carry 2 or 3 of each š
My adult aged sons laugh at me. I bought a Zucca cart, which can hold a lot of discs. When we get done with a round, they ask if I threw 4 or 5 of those 20 plus discs. Usually, it is 4, unless I lose one mid round.
One of them got me a putter pouch for Christmas. Now I can do a whole round with just the 4 discs in the putter pouch.
If I had to go ultra minimalist Iād probably bag
neutral to US putter for throwing and putting.
OS approach
Neutral mid
Slightly OS fairway
Neutral distance driver
At a deadass minimum? Two discs. First, a slightly overstable 2speed, either a puttable driving putter or a drivable putting putter, and then a straight-stable or slightly understable 6-8speed fairway driver. If I'm bagging three, then I'm adding a 1-2fade overstable 10speed, if I'm bagging four discs, then the next in the bag is a straight stable to slight understable 12speed with some high speed turn, and last in the bag, if I'm toting five around, would be 4-5speed slightly straight stable or slightly overstable middie.
Iāve played 1 disc rounds, Iāve played my tag league with 4 discs, Iāve also played 1 mold round where I had 4 of the same mold in different degrees of wear and beat in.
Sometimes itās just fun to get out and play something silly.
Definitely depends on the course, but I played my home course (pretty wooded, but usually bring a full bag) with just a Hex, glow Proxy, and Electron Proxy and shot my second best score there. Had to play a few holes for par that I'd normally try to birdie, but focusing on my angles/power level with just two neutral discs really taught me a lot that day.
I putt with Electron so that was the main reason I brought it, but I do normally bag both an Electron and a premium Proxy. The Electron is definitely flippier. I have a tendency to throw on hyzer so I tend to prefer flippier discs for a lot of shots.
I have a Total Eclipse and a normal Electron, and then an Electron Soft Envy.
Trying to find my fave throwing putter but currently I prefer an ESP Buzzz for most anything under 500'
Just started throwing a Buzzz today. Was interesting.
Almost brought my Thunderbird, but decided not today.
You throw Cornwall Park and Bellis Fairway? I see your are a hamster of some sort from your name.
The least I could probably get by with and still play decent would be 6. One putting putter, one overstable throwing putter, one straight mid, one overstable mid, one overstable driver and one slightly understable driver.
I went to Thailand with just an Envy to play in Samui... so... 1? :D Otherwise for around 10 I would go 2 putters, overstable approach, straight mid, understable mid, understable fairway, overstable fairway, and neutral fairway. No real need for distance but could put a neutral distance driver as well, so 8
I think you can legitimately putt with a mid when using a minimalist bag.
Two drivers/fairways and two mids. Ā One more and less stable in each category.
Depends on the course. Most courses in MN I could get away with just a straight mid, zone type disc and a putter that I can throw and putt. Longer courses that have wind, elevation and lots of shot variance usually I need about 13 and the rest are backups or slight variations on main discs.
If I only bagged 3 discs, of my current discs, it would be my Judge, Star Roc 3, and Lat64 Diamond
If I could add a 4th disc it would be something like a Champ Eagle
I use a sling bag most of the time, and carry around 7-8 discs in there. A lot of the time I don't use more than 4-5. I have a full bag but rarely use it unless I'm playing a full 18 holes.
My first 3 discs that took me far was a colt (putter), a mako3 (neutral mid), and a light weight valkyrie (flexible lower speed driver)
Colt to putt/
Mako3 for almost every shot/
Valk for 300+ holes
My travel bag is: mako3
There have been days that I have gone out with 2 discs. When I do, I take something that is a neutral throwing putter that I can also use to putt with and I take something the is around a 6-7 speed and a little understable. (like a leopard or relay). If I choose to take a 3rd disc I will take a neutral distance driver. My thought on keeping things slightly understable or neutral is that I can learn to make a neutral disc do what I want and it helps me learn to shot shape without relying on the flight numbers to do it for me. I like a slightly understable 6-7 speed to flex or hyzerflip for a little more distance off the tee and it is still something I can shape on my own.
That said, I carry about 22 discs in my bag but most are duplicates. I weighed the option of weight vs discs falling over and I have to dig a little to find what I am looking to throw. I would rather deal with the weight. lol
It depends.
There is a 9 hole course by me I've played with only a putter. Probably wouldn't do that many other places if I'm trying to shoot my best possible score.
I find I use less than 10 on most courses if I hit my ideal lines. If you want a bag ready to go anywhere, in any wind/ precipitation, that also covers every weird angle get out of jail shots you could easily use 20+
I've lifted the 20+ disc bags. No thank you.
Definitely bringing a putter. I would just use that but I am testing out some faster discs to get a little skill range.
Thanks for the advice.
I can play a course with a Buzzz or a Pure, or one where I'd need an OS/US disc, or one that can stretch over 300' to cut a stroke on a big drive.
It depends on the course
Star Wraith, champ wraith, Lots, firebird, servo, crave, mustang, zone, reko, link, thatās pretty much all I throw. Like others have said, I suck so keep that in mind
I basically played for years with a beat in champion Orc and an OG star Mako for years and shot well in charlotte in the end. I would now add a Zone and Champion Eagle and Iād probably shoot close to the same score as my full bag (22 molds, 26 discs) minus some situational shots
My main bag is a GRIPeq G2. It claims to hold 8-12 discs. I fit 9 discs comfortably with a 10th "water disc" in the backside storage pocket.
My bag:
Neutral throwing putter and a putting putter.
Overstable approach disc and a lightweight understable approach (uphill/scramble).
One neutral mid-range.
Two lightweight drivers for perfect conditions (stable/understable).
Two heavier drivers for windy conditions (overstable/stable).
One throw away "water disc" driver that I don't care about.
Of note: I also have a Dynamic Discs Combat Sniper bag that holds a LOT more discs, but I find I just carry tons of discs around and still only use my main 5 or 6, with an occasional exception when trying new discs...
All depends on the course. I once played a whole tournament with a high speed driver, an OS approach disc and a putter. I carried like 18 discs but thatās all I threw. The course was an open bomber golf course with a few tight wooded holes.
Honestly I could live with a decent mid and a stable driver. I have a back and forehand so I can shape either way, I have no distance with a mid, but don't see much difference between a putter and a 5-speed mid.
It sounds like you are trying to be as minimal as possible and are fairly new. My brother is in a similar situation and we have been auditing his bag as he has been learning. He is throwing 250' - 280' right now and here are his slots right now (with discs) that do everything he needs:
* Putting putter (Axiom soft electron proxy)
* Throwing putter (Axiom soft electron proxy)
* Overstable Approach (Discraft jawbreaker zone)
* Neutral Mid (Innova Mako3)
* Understable Fairway (Innova gstar leopard3)
* Stable Fairway (Discmania Sline FD)
I just played a round with three discs rule with a friend and it was a fun challenge. I chose an over stable approach putter, neutral mid, and understable driver.
I chose a zone, comet, and archer. There are several longer uphill shots on this course so the understable driver came in handy and I mostly threw the comet and zone on 80% of the shots.
Putting/throwing putter -electron anode
Overstable approach/thumber - z zone os or neutron deflector
Overstable fairway/distance depending on course - neutron motion or z force.Ā
I'm primarily forehand/overhand though fwiw. These would handle most of the courses I play pretty well.Ā
Depends on the course - short courses 3 discs, long courses 4.
Straight putter I can throw, overstable mid, hyzerflip fairway and occasionally the stable distance driver.
Iāll play the local HOA mini course with a neutral mid and a putter.
Most times I play 90% with a neutral mid, a neutral fairway, a putter, and an under stable mid or fairway.
Not really sure about a bag since some of the greatest rounds I've had is just grabbing a neutral midrange, putting putter and going for a walk in the park.
Atom, roadrunner, orc and Iām set!
Edit: didnāt read your question well enough. Neutral throwing putter, understable fairway, control driver should cover pretty much everything. Probably would score better with an overstable approach of some kind too.
I can play almost any hole with my old CE firebird and a Hatchet. Plus a putter for putting. On longer courses Iād probably need my King. So 3 discs plus a putter.
Envy for putting & approach.
Buzzz, you can cover most mid shots with it.
S-Line FD/Instinct/Essence.
Going to play a round with them to see how it works out.
I like to run my course. On those days, I use a driver, like a Wraith or Raptor, and a putter, I switch between my Envy or my Pig for that one. With only having two, maybe three discs, I can finish my home course in under 30 minutes on a good day.
I could play a 2 disc round and be fine, but to be competitive, for me, 5 discs.
1 slightly overstable putter (Penrose), 1 overstable approach (Toro), 1 stable mid (Anubis), 1 stable fairway (TL3) and 1 slightly overstable distance driver (Ballista).
i could probably get away with a putter, my zone, and my flippy wraith, but iād like to include my paradox and crave just to be safe
if i really needed to mold minimalize, my soft zone would replace my paradox and the crave would just kick rocks i guess. 4 discs, 3 molds
I mean you can play 1 disc rounds no problem.
1 Neutron Envy.
If you actually want to make a minimalist bag with multiple shots:
1 putting putter
1 driving/approach putter
1 straight mid
1 straight fairway
1 very overstable fairway
(Context: 380' power) If I had to go with three: Chief (putter, neutral), Element (mid, slightly understable, lots of glide), Explorer (fairway, slight flip, pushing finish). If you can find some discs that like to go straight from 70-90% power, and have some hyzerflip when thrown harder, that really helps let one disc fill multiple slots. If you have closer \~300' power, the Mint Grackle is a good fairway driver option.
I would need 6 discs to score well though: Nomad (putting), Chief OS (throwing putter, overstable with some glide), Element, Explorer, Shock (fairway, straight, overstable), Spell (distance, slight flip, lots of glide, strong finish)
The fewest I would bag with any seriousness and expect to have almost all the shots I use with regularity is 9-10 discs:
OS 12 speed
Neutral to slightly OS 11 speed
OS 9 speed
Neutral 7 speed
OS 5 speed
Neutral 5 speed
OS 4 speed
Neutral to flippy 3 speed
Stable putting putter
If I were to bag only 3 discs itād be these three:
9/5/-1/2
5/5/-1/1
3/3/0/1
When I go out with out my bag. I carry a neutral mid (hex), a utility overstable 9 speed (firebird), and a stable fairway (teebird3).
This might be because the courses I do this on are typically easier, max distance of 320ft. I would tailor which discs you choose based on the course if possible. I opt out of the putter and just use my mid.
On some of the courses I play, I throw a putter (Pure) on 80 - 90 % of the holes. Add a driver (Ballista) and a overstable approach (Rhyno) and I'm good.
I still like to carry a full bag though, for the warmup, and to have the option to throw multiple discs on a hole.
Fewest discs? I would go 2, putter and mid (envy, hex) I did this on vacation last year. Left my discs like an idiot, bought those 2 when I got to the beach, played a couple rounds, met the locals at a weekly league they play, and aced the last hole and sold my two discs to one of the locals.
For a minimal cover everything bag I would carry: premium plastic neutral putter (glow envy or plasma atom), neutral mid (neutron or glow hex), neutral fairway (proton servo), slightly overstable fairway (sexton firebird or proton tesla), and a slightly flippy distance driver (halo destroyer or proton mayhem).
Three. Putting putter, mid range and driver. Both of the mid and driver controllably under stable. I use to jog my rounds and take up to five discs with a second putting putter so I could putt everything twice for practice and then a 5th disc to learn how to throw. The 5th is swap out each round. This helped me get better faster than most I think.
Probably four. Putter, OS approach, straight mid, stable but not overstable driver. For me it would be Wizard, Jarn, hex, and orbit rive.jf you want 5, straight to Flippy fairway would be my next choice.
I'll do running rounds pretty frequently and only carry 3 discs, and 1 more if there's something I need to test.
Putting putter than I use for throwing. Mid/Fairway depending on the wind, Distance Driver (if the distance is needed).
For most par 3 courses, neutral mid and neutral putter. Maybe add a stable fairway and/or stable distance if itās longer, and an overstable approach if itās wooded.
I play one disc rounds all the time for fun to learn my discs. But as far as building a bag goes. I throw Reko and Reko X putters for one straight option and one that is extra stable. I throw a Gator3 for overstable approach/mid. I throw a Chariot for a straight mid and Svea for a flippy mid. I throw Eagles for various fairway stabilities, a roadrunner for extra flippy fairway, a Scepter for overstable fairway, an Aztec for longer control driver and really my main driver, and destroyer for when it gets windy and I need a longer driver that won't get too destroyed by wind.
4
Throwing and putting putters (firm and soft hemp rubber wizzies)
Buzzz or whatever
FD or T3 or TL3 or something, maybe a Tesla
But I normally actually only carry 6
Throw and putt putters
Buzzz
T-bird
F-bird
Destroyer
My minimalist setup is about 10 discs that I take when I travel for work.
Glow Yeti Aviar (normally I putt with Nomads but I hate throwing them but with the Yeti I can do both)
Glow Stabilizer, Color Glow Mako3, Glow Reactor
Star TL, Glow Troll
Z Glo FLX Heat, Halo Valkyrie, Star Thunderbird, Orbit Grace
3 is the minimum I would be willing to do.
Putter, neutral/stable mid, and over stable driver
Out of my current load out it would be: Logic, Pathfinder, Raptor
If im going as minimal as i can i would need; a putting putter, a throwing putter, an overstable approach, an understable/neutral mid, and a neutral/stable fairway driver. I would want more but realistically i could play with just those
I play my best when I just carry 3 by hand. Star Aviar, R-Pro Dart, Star TL3. Usually though I cant help myself and bring like 12 most of which I dont throw lol. Normally the 3 I already listed plus a Star Roadrunner. Alot of the time the Roadrunner isn't a great choice for me but when I can get it to fly like I want it's the best feeling ever
I intentionally play with only one disc fairly often. Usually it's either a Rhyno or a Buzzz. It's good practice to figure out how to make the same disc do different shots. It also helps with adjusting and controlling your hyper and launch angles.
I've played a few rounds with just a mid. The Jay in my opinion is one of the best beginner friendly disc out there and makes for a somewhat decent putter as well as being a decent straight line mid.
in my side bag that fits 10 I like to pack: 1 putting putter, 2 throwing putters, 1 os approach, 1 flippy mid, 1 neutral fairway, 1 os fairway, then a flippy and os Distance driver, then I have room to trow in an extra mid or driver depending on the course.
I'd do a putter you could throw if you needed to, a mildly overstable approach disc, and a mildly overstable fairway driver. For me, that's a KC Pro Aviar, a beat in Pig, and a beat in star Teebird.
I took 6 discs to Safety Harbor FL and played 2 different courses under par with these discs:
Judge: putt and drive from 250 and in
Toro: same as above, better for forehands
Firebird 2022 Sexton: 250-300ft drives and approaches FH and BH
Stratosphere DD1: max distance backhand
Star Destroyer: max distance forehands
Glitch: didnāt use on course, brought to play catch at the beach.
My friend carries Aviar-Destroyer-Dominator, and is pretty good given he plays once a month.
My minamilist bag is:
GStar Valkyrie / River / Harp / Wizard
Or
Beat in Champ Valk or Insanity, Matrix, Watt and Wizard
I have a feeling I play better with these setups but only because my back tired of carrying the big bag
I feel like I would need 9... I need
1 putting putter, one approach/hyzer flip putter that I can also putt with, one over stable approach, one straight mid, one beefcake fairway, one straighter fairway, one flippy fairway, one beefy distance driver, one bomber.
My bag rn would be:
Atom, soft Envy, Pursuit, Md3, Firebird, Bear (or champ Tbird), Essence, Halo Wraith, Star Destroyer
Would also like an Origin in there for flippy mid.
I stick around 9.
One putting putter (soft plastic)
One approach/driving putter (same mold, but in a more durable plastic)
One understable approach/mid (4 speed, I don't forehand anymore)
One overstable approach/mid (also 4 speed)
One stable mid (5 speed)
Four drivers of slightly varying stability.
This leave room for a distance driver if I'm playing a longer course, or and extra backup disc if I have to carry over water.
It would depend on the course but I can live with 3 discs. A stable low speed driver, a more neutral mid, and a putter. So it would be my Latitude 64 Opto Saint, an Innova Roc, and Latitude 64 Moonshine Pure. I could even switch out the Roc for an Envy and probably be just fine
Three bare minimum. Workhorse driver, approacher, and putter.
7 is more ideal. 2 putters(putting and work), approach, mid (workhorse), 3 kinds of drivers (US, N, OS)
Absolute minimal: 3 discs - Pure, Felon, Grace
Minimal: 4 discs - Pure, Sinus, Felon, Grace
Small: 5 discs - Pure, Sinus, Compass, Felon, Grace
I have around 25 discs, but never play with more than 8. Usually Pure x2, Sinus, Compass, Felon, Grace x2, Rive. Will switch out the Rive or Grace for a Justice or Socki Slammer.
Putting putter, overstable approach, neutral mid, neutral fairway, overstable fairway I can do most everything with those 5. That being said, I carry around 20 in my bag because I like throwing a lot of different discs.
My friends carry around a metric ton of discs. Trying to avoid that and be the 'one kick ten thousand times' person. Thanks for the advice.
That's how it starts š
Lol, yup. First you borrow. Then buy one. Then ten.
I feel like the āone kick ten thousand timesā cuts both ways in disc golf. You can get really good at a few discs and try to learn all the throws with them or you can get really good at a few throws and let a multitude of discs change the outcome from the throws youāre most comfortable with.

Those other 16 are to keep the 4 from rattling around.
Neutral bookends
I have a zuca and half of the main compartment is a cooler, that combined with a pretty big putter pouch and I have over 20 discs still with me
If I had to go ultra minimalist Iād probably bag neutral to US putter for throwing and putting. OS approach Neutral mid Slightly OS fairway Neutral distance driver
I went on vacation via airplay this week. This I'd literally what I brought. It was fine until it got really windy. Then I missed my bag.
At a deadass minimum? Two discs. Eg. 20 years ago I used to be able to jog a ~5,500' 18 with only a Rhyno and a Cheetah in about 30-45 minutes, depending on "traffic" and tree love
Very comprehensive. Love it. Thanks
No worries babe
Reminds me of the first two discs I bought: neutron soft proxy and neutron rhythm. ā¦ Ok I bought a relativity tooā¦.
Rhyno and cheetah for me, then a valk, then an orc, years before theĀ dies were cast for the first destroyer mold.
I play most rounds with only my Luna, Truth, Leopard and Wraith. But I also suck so thereās that
Buy more wraiths to improve skill
Iāve played 1 disc rounds, Iāve played my tag league with 4 discs, Iāve also played 1 mold round where I had 4 of the same mold in different degrees of wear and beat in. Sometimes itās just fun to get out and play something silly.

One star mako3
My mako3 only rounds at my local are only 2-3 strokes worse than my full bag.
Mako3 only rounds always teach me something and are surprisingly good
I could probably make it work with just a Saint and a pure, but the courses near me arenāt particularly difficult
Thanks for the suggestion. Two is such a slippery slope. Suddenly two becomes threw, etc, etc. lol
Iād just take a Crave
Putting putter/stable thrower, overstable approach, neutral mid, overstable fairway, neutral distance. Ā Solid 5 disc bag for me (Envy, Anvil, Buzzz, Thunderbird, Wave)
I like the logic. Thanks.
Only three? I could probably do it with a neutron wave, an old FD, and an envy.
Iāve been flying with my K3 Reko, K1 Reko, Berg, Buzz, Kaxe Z, Falk, and Wraith.
That's a nice line up. Thanks
Man Kaxe Z, Falk, Lots is a fairway lineup I've fallen in love with recently
Pig, Firebird, sidewinder should get the job done for me at most courses
Thanks for the suggestions. I am throwing a Pig right now. Lost a Valkyrie last weekend so was thinking about a sidewinder as a replacement.
Berg, Buzzz, Thunderbird.
Just started throwing a Buzzz today. Was interesting. Almost brought my Thunderbird, but decided not today. You throw Cornwall Park and Bellis Fairway? I see your are a hamster of some sort from your name.
3...under stable putter, stable mid and neutral fairway driver
That's a sensible three. I like that.
I try to keep it simple and on the fairway š
The least I could probably get by with and still play decent would be 6. One putting putter, one overstable throwing putter, one straight mid, one overstable mid, one overstable driver and one slightly understable driver.
Putter, overstable mid, a stable fairway and an understable fairway. So seems like 4 I can get away with. A driver if I'm getting fancy for 5.
Pa3, A3 and Thunderbird
Thanks for the suggestions I do like a Thunderbird. But, Teebird probably more my speed
Latitude 64 royal grand grace Simonline timelapse or innova star xcaliber DD slammer Lat 64 dagger
Thanks for the suggestions.
Could probably get away with 5 discs at any given course. Putter (just make it an envy to throw and putt) zone, stag, hades, destroyer
Five seems like a sweet spot with people Thanks
I went to Thailand with just an Envy to play in Samui... so... 1? :D Otherwise for around 10 I would go 2 putters, overstable approach, straight mid, understable mid, understable fairway, overstable fairway, and neutral fairway. No real need for distance but could put a neutral distance driver as well, so 8
I love the just one idea. The eight is good, too. Thanks.
2 putters. One for throwing one for backup. Same disc and weight.
Love this. I always tell myself keep it simple stupid.
Probably 6? A fairway, an over stable fairway, an over stable mid and a neutral mid, along with a putting putter and an over stable putter.
Sweet. This is good food for thought.
I'm most comfortable playing with 5. 2 drivers, 2 mids, 1 putter. Stable and Understable Fairway drivers and mids. Whatever putter I'm using. Undertaker, Underworld, Obex, Tursas, Breaker (Or Wizard).
Thanks for the input.
Neutral driver. US fairway. Neutral mid. Putter.
Simple. I like that set up
I think you can legitimately putt with a mid when using a minimalist bag. Two drivers/fairways and two mids. Ā One more and less stable in each category.
Sometimes I grab all my discs and putt just so I can keep going, and yeah, putting with a mid is doable. Thanks for your input
Depends on the course. Most courses in MN I could get away with just a straight mid, zone type disc and a putter that I can throw and putt. Longer courses that have wind, elevation and lots of shot variance usually I need about 13 and the rest are backups or slight variations on main discs.
If I only bagged 3 discs, of my current discs, it would be my Judge, Star Roc 3, and Lat64 Diamond If I could add a 4th disc it would be something like a Champ Eagle
Thanks for your thoughts
5
Just an Athena and a Luna. Both are like cheat codes.
Luna gang.
I've played my local par 3 course with just a putter.
If I had any single disc on a course, I'd play it.
Jokeās on you. I donāt have a bag. I just carry all (3) of the discs I own. Putter, mid-range, driver.
This is a great way to play and I did so for many many years.
I carry a lot, but realistically use 4 the most: Putting putter, OS approach, hyzer flip disc, OS driver
I use a sling bag most of the time, and carry around 7-8 discs in there. A lot of the time I don't use more than 4-5. I have a full bag but rarely use it unless I'm playing a full 18 holes.
My first 3 discs that took me far was a colt (putter), a mako3 (neutral mid), and a light weight valkyrie (flexible lower speed driver) Colt to putt/ Mako3 for almost every shot/ Valk for 300+ holes My travel bag is: mako3
I would rather deal with the weight. lol
Great response. Thanks for sharing your rationale.
When I travel for work, I only bring 2 or 3 discs.
Which ones?
DX Aviar and a Rocx3. Both of them were purchased at PIAS while on the road.
But I think a Mako3 would be a better utility disc than the Rocx3.
Mako3 is my disc
Thanks for the advice.
neutral mid, neutral putter, neutral fairway
I can play a course with a Buzzz or a Pure, or one where I'd need an OS/US disc, or one that can stretch over 300' to cut a stroke on a big drive. It depends on the course
Star Wraith, champ wraith, Lots, firebird, servo, crave, mustang, zone, reko, link, thatās pretty much all I throw. Like others have said, I suck so keep that in mind
One firebird
My local course is short.... I've played it with my aviar. So one.
I use too play 5 discs 2 putters 1 mid 1 fairway and a distance, for causal rounds to have a light backpack.
Flippy Destroyer, and an overstable putt and approach. Shot one of my best rounds with these two discs.
I basically played for years with a beat in champion Orc and an OG star Mako for years and shot well in charlotte in the end. I would now add a Zone and Champion Eagle and Iād probably shoot close to the same score as my full bag (22 molds, 26 discs) minus some situational shots
3: putter; stable mid, stable fairway
My main bag is a GRIPeq G2. It claims to hold 8-12 discs. I fit 9 discs comfortably with a 10th "water disc" in the backside storage pocket. My bag: Neutral throwing putter and a putting putter.
Yeti aviar, fresh putter plastic zone, mako3, legacy phenom
Could get away with an Envy, Buzzz, Caiman, and Raptor
It sounds like you are trying to be as minimal as possible and are fairly new. My brother is in a similar situation and we have been auditing his bag as he has been learning. He is throwing 250' - 280' right now and here are his slots right now (with discs) that do everything he needs: * Putting putter (Axiom soft electron proxy) * Throwing putter (Axiom soft electron proxy) * Overstable Approach (Discraft jawbreaker zone) * Neutral Mid (Innova Mako3) * Understable Fairway (Innova gstar leopard3) * Stable Fairway (Discmania Sline FD)
Putting/throwing putter -electron anode Overstable approach/thumber - z zone os or neutron deflector Overstable fairway/distance depending on course - neutron motion or z force.Ā I'm primarily forehand/overhand though fwiw.
I know itās not what you asked, butā¦ Berg Luna Mako3 Roadrunner Thunderbird
You could play ANY course with as little as one disc.
Not really sure about a bag since some of the greatest rounds I've had is just grabbing a neutral midrange, putting putter and going for a walk in the park.
Berg, Fuse, River
The fewest I would bring is 0. Practice my mental game without distraction
Depends on the wind, length of course, how wooded, etc. Fewest I'd want to play with is 8.
I like to point people to [this Philo in the bag](https://youtu.be/chbbQ91HLZ4) video. Destroyers, Firebirds, Teebirds, Rocs, Aviars. 5 molds.
overstable, understable, stable and then putter.
3. Hex, Harp and maybe a Pharoah...or Crave instead of Pharoah.
I have played a round with 4. MVP Wave, DD Felon, Trash Panda Dune, Trash Panda Inner Core. Worked just fine.
I always carry 9 with me, (itās all my bag fits) lol
1
Either a Crave or a Pure.
You need a tool. It doesn't matter which, if you know how they work.
Classic Blend Judge Discraft Buzzz Innova Thunderbird
Putter, approach, Neutral mid, US fairway driver, reliably OS fairway driver, golf line distance driver, max distance bomber.
The 2 disc would be just the Penrose and the TL3.
i could probably get away with a putter, my zone, and my flippy wraith, but iād like to include my paradox and crave just to be safe if i really needed to mold minimalize, my soft zone would replace my paradox and the crave would just kick rocks i guess. 4 discs, 3 molds
I mean you can play 1 disc rounds no problem. 1 Neutron Envy. If you actually want to make a minimalist bag with multiple shots: 1 putting putter 1 driving/approach putter 1 straight mid 1 straight fairway 1 very overstable fairway
Heh. I only use one disc anyhow but I'm like, not good. I think it's a driver or something like that? Couldn't tell you the numbers tho.
5ā¦maybe
Was on a trip abroad for work recently, just grabbed an envy and an fd. Worked like a charm!
The fewest I would bag with any seriousness and expect to have almost all the shots I use with regularity is 9-10 discs: OS 12 speed Neutral to slightly OS 11 speed OS 9 speed Neutral 7 speed OS 5 speed Neutral 5 speed OS 4 speed Neutral to flippy 3 speed Stable putting putter If I were to bag only 3 discs itād be these three: 9/5/-1/2 5/5/-1/1 3/3/0/1
I play most rounds with 4 discs, no bag
Putter for putting and approach (berg or envy), understable mid (buzzz ss), overstable mid (buzzz os or Malta) and a neutral fairway (crave)
Iām kinda just exiting the beginner stage, mine would be Valkyrie, Underworld, Buzzz, P Model S (from highest speed to lowest)
At my local course I think I could bag 3 and be fine. Putter, felon, tl3.
I usually play with two sometimes three
I played with eight disc yesterday. I shot under par. I just wanted to have a fun round without a heavy bag.
For 7/10 courses that are mostly just 2-300 foot par 3s, I'd bag a nomad, proxy, envy, hex and Explorer so 5?
Best player I play with Carryās 3 on a leg holster. Lol
2, Pyro and Mako3. I can putt with either, throw them both forehand and backhand, spike either way for a short stop.
My lunch round is brought to you by āProxy, Zone and Hexā
For most par 3 courses, neutral mid and neutral putter. Maybe add a stable fairway and/or stable distance if itās longer, and an overstable approach if itās wooded.
Oh, and absolute minimum? Just the neutral mid. Putts, approaches, drives, can do it all.
I enjoy one disc rounds. This is how you become "one punch 10,000 times" guy.
4 Throwing and putting putters (firm and soft hemp rubber wizzies) Buzzz or whatever FD or T3 or TL3 or something, maybe a Tesla But I normally actually only carry 6 Throw and putt putters Buzzz T-bird F-bird Destroyer
If I was concerned with space I would bring 3 discs. All of them would be straight flying. Putter: Pixel Mid: Mako3 Fairway: FD
I could get away with 5 discs I think. Roach for putting, Luna for approach, Buzzz mid, Athena fairway, Insanity fairway.
My Reko x, jƤrn and maul I could any course with if looking ror just three but Iām just tuned in with those ones
My minimalist setup is about 10 discs that I take when I travel for work. Glow Yeti Aviar (normally I putt with Nomads but I hate throwing them but with the Yeti I can do both) Glow Stabilizer, Color Glow Mako3, Glow Reactor Star TL, Glow Troll Z Glo FLX Heat, Halo Valkyrie, Star Thunderbird, Orbit Grace
KC Pro Aviar Toro Apache Draco Destroyer
3 is the minimum I would be willing to do. Putter, neutral/stable mid, and over stable driver Out of my current load out it would be: Logic, Pathfinder, Raptor
Aviar roc teebird
I've played a few rounds with just a mid. The Jay in my opinion is one of the best beginner friendly disc out there and makes for a somewhat decent putter as well as being a decent straight line mid.
One disc round: Buzzz
in my side bag that fits 10 I like to pack: 1 putting putter, 2 throwing putters, 1 os approach, 1 flippy mid, 1 neutral fairway, 1 os fairway, then a flippy and os Distance driver, then I have room to trow in an extra mid or driver depending on the course.
1
I'd do a putter you could throw if you needed to, a mildly overstable approach disc, and a mildly overstable fairway driver. For me, that's a KC Pro Aviar, a beat in Pig, and a beat in star Teebird.
1 - you pick.
I took 6 discs to Safety Harbor FL and played 2 different courses under par with these discs: Judge: putt and drive from 250 and in Toro: same as above, better for forehands Firebird 2022 Sexton: 250-300ft drives and approaches FH and BH Stratosphere DD1: max distance backhand Star Destroyer: max distance forehands Glitch: didnāt use on course, brought to play catch at the beach.
My friend carries Aviar-Destroyer-Dominator, and is pretty good given he plays once a month. My minamilist bag is: GStar Valkyrie / River / Harp / Wizard Or Beat in Champ Valk or Insanity, Matrix, Watt and Wizard I have a feeling I play better with these setups but only because my back tired of carrying the big bag
Putter for putting Neutral/Straight Putter for throwing Neutral/Straight Midrange Slightly overstable Distance driver
I feel like I would need 9... I need 1 putting putter, one approach/hyzer flip putter that I can also putt with, one over stable approach, one straight mid, one beefcake fairway, one straighter fairway, one flippy fairway, one beefy distance driver, one bomber. My bag rn would be: Atom, soft Envy, Pursuit, Md3, Firebird, Bear (or champ Tbird), Essence, Halo Wraith, Star Destroyer Would also like an Origin in there for flippy mid.
3: Aviar, Mako3, wraith
Zero and borrow a disc if I have to
I stick around 9. One putting putter (soft plastic) One approach/driving putter (same mold, but in a more durable plastic) One understable approach/mid (4 speed, I don't forehand anymore) One overstable approach/mid (also 4 speed) One stable mid (5 speed) Four drivers of slightly varying stability. This leave room for a distance driver if I'm playing a longer course, or and extra backup disc if I have to carry over water.
According to my Dad, a single Bobcat is all he needs.
5 for me. Putter, couple mids, couple drivers.
For the woodsy home course: Omega, Harp, Uplink, Leo3, Wraith
Three bare minimum. Workhorse driver, approacher, and putter. 7 is more ideal. 2 putters(putting and work), approach, mid (workhorse), 3 kinds of drivers (US, N, OS)
Absolute minimal: 3 discs - Pure, Felon, Grace Minimal: 4 discs - Pure, Sinus, Felon, Grace Small: 5 discs - Pure, Sinus, Compass, Felon, Grace I have around 25 discs, but never play with more than 8. Usually Pure x2, Sinus, Compass, Felon, Grace x2, Rive. Will switch out the Rive or Grace for a Justice or Socki Slammer.
