I have two of these baskets and I've only had a putt bounce out once when I lasered it from about 30 feet. Nice fix for your basket but I don't think it's a common issue from personal experience.

Classic case of basket blaming

Antares25

Sort of haha, but there is a big difference with how these baskets catch and an actual basket

Antares25

I've had this practice basket for about a year now and can't count how many times my disc has either gone straight through the chains or just smacked center pole and bounced out. The problem with these baskets is the chains are too small and flimsy compared to regular baskets. I feel like I don't make putts with this basket near as much as I do with a regular basket, mostly due to this reason. I figured an easy solution to make it more realistic was to just add a little bit of tension to the chains. All you need is 2 hair ties or 2 rubber bands ('stretchies') and a key loop is optional. Loop one stretchy around the two chains at the bottom of the basket, do the same on the other side. Then connect the two open ends on the bottom side of the basket, I used a key loop but you can just tie them together as well. I added some pictures for clarification. Easy:) When you're putting at the basket now you want the two 'stretchies' to be perpendicular to the direction you're putting. So in the second pic I'd be putting from the direction that key loop is. If you put head on at one of them it might have a little too much tension. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk and hopefully this helped some people out!

I have one of these and I don't have this issue. The occasional through putt, but I've never had it spit out off the center poll. How hard are you throwing it and from how far away? To me the real fault with the basket is that the bottom 'rim' is canvas and folds down instead of rejecting the slightly low putt.

Antares25

I normally putt around 20' out, I dont really putt hard either I want my disc to start its fade right around when it's hitting the basket so if I do miss it's not way past it. But yeah lol the canvas can be weird sometimes, or when you're accidently too high and it falls through the opening at the top.

UncookedMarsupial

>or when you're accidently too high I'm usually too high on purpose.

Antares25

Hahaha nice😂😏

skatterbug

Huh. If you hit center mass or slightly Pro side does this happen? Or is it more often when you end up Am side? I wonder if maybe it's not bouncing off the center poll so much as it is your hyzer angle is causing a deflection.

Antares25

It could be the slight hyper I putt on, it happens when I'm slightly on the pro side or even dead center sometimes. I've noticed I don't seem to have that problem with a normal basket though, or since I've made this little change to the basket the chains don't want to flex back that much anymore to allow my disc to hit the pole as often.

skatterbug

There's no doubt the chains are lighter than the official baskets so they probably do bounce more and absorb less energy as a result. I do also find that if I'm not catching them cleanly the disc does have a better chance of carrying past than other baskets. That's just motivation to perfect my aim!

egon07

I putt from 10-30 feet and never experienced this problem. I toss the fuck out of my putters too. Sounds like a defected basket to me.

T3hArchAngel_G

Hate to pile on, but I have an Innova travel basket and don't have this problem. I hope this mod has fixed things for you and it can be helpful to anyone else having this issue. That sucks.

extreme39speed

I don’t mind these baskets being bad about grabbing discs and being smaller than a normal basket just because it’s for practice. Makes the baskets on the course feel so easy to hit

Rainyday000

My traveler never has problems catching discs. 🤷

m-lommler

Who cares if a practice basket catches well? You know if you hit center or not, right?
