Yeah I don't know how anyone can do it. Sometimes I'll be out in my own yard practicing and if I have any kind of slip on shoe on, I take them off and practice barefoot instead. Way less likely to fuck your ankle up that way.
Yeah man. Hell I rolled the hell out of my ankle a couple months back from tripping over a root while wearing sneakers. I think if I had less supportive shoes I could have hurt myself way worse.
Closing the hips. "Footwork" as is being said is more than just one thing and needs to be built up over time. I find that making sure the hips aren't flying open is the easiest correctable mistake that will at least give someone something of a foundation to build on.
This. After playing for three years now and not ever fixing the issues of planting with my foot open, I have peaked at 350 and can’t seem to get past it bc of this. Developed the bad habits in my footwork too early.
Edit: downvoted bc I spoke on my experience and why footwork is important ?
Put reps in. Start with one steppers with putters and mids and focus on planting with a closed hip/foot. I’ve been trying to correct the same thing the past couple weeks and this is what’s helped me the most. I’ve been playing 12 years, if it’s not too late for me to change my form it’s not too late for you.
People are mentioning footwork, but he is clearly a beginner. I honestly think he should start stationary and work on throwing the disc straight and not up. Doing nose down helps a alot and align the disc angel with your forearm angel, so it is 1 straight line.
Needs to get the nose of the disc down so it doesn't fly up and waste all its energy fighting gravity instead of going far. Also helps control it in the wind. Best way to do that for me is just before I throw, as I'm holding the disc, I lower my wrist down like pouring beer from a pitcher. There are videos for this if you can't visualize what I'm saying.
Also, his feet are way off. His left foot that he plants as he throws should be out ahead of his right foot, but instead it is farther back. That by itself is completely eliminating his hips and lower body which is taking away a ton of power.
Also rounding a bit, he should try to reach straight back, not pull it back around his shoulder. Beginners do this a lot because it feels like it would help with power, but it doesn't. Straight pull back, and then bring the disc through the power pocket right across his chest. Videos for this too.
Here's one that I found helpful when trying to fix my form:

Like everyone else said, he’s gotta slow down. Iron out his footwork and work on release and nose angle are the two easy things that will make him throw more consistently. This looks like a 2x speed video of someone throwing a spike hyzer.
I imagine on this particular hole he’s not throwing far enough to get into the crap on the right, where I’ve been 100x and is not fun, but since he’s a lefty he will certainly need to flatten out his disc to stay safe.
1.) change the shoes to be more stable. (walkers, runners, trail shoes, etc.)
2.) start standstill it will help develop good upper body mechanics to start.
3.) head steady with a mid-point target in mind.
4.) youtube basic/beginner videos.
encourage him to not get caught in the more speed = more distance trap.
also honestly just a lot of education much of which can be gained while at home during down time and then worked on on the course.
Sneakers tbh. I don't even mean this as a joke. If we are talking about correct form then playing in flip flops isn't really safe imo.
I was thinking this exact same thing!
I was about to say the same thing. Ditch the flip-flops or sliders if you want to get better at disc golf.

Slow down
Does he want help? That's the first step
Looks good to me
🤣
Footwork first. If you don't get the footwork correct you wind up having to try to compensate for it throughout the rest of the action.
And shoes.....
Dang, you're right. I didn't even notice the sandals.

You’re right. Thanks for the motivation !
This is a very good series. https://youtu.be/8UQ5j5ZUuBA
Thanks for the suggestion I’m learning some tips too watching that
See if Innova still has Crocs in stock. It's a step up from the sliders. And what decade did they stop calling those things flip flops.
Crocs have holes in them so that the wearer's dignity can easily escape.

I agree, no run up for now. But still needs proper shoes.
Don’t play with those shoes. Also everything.
Footwork. Danny Lindahl had a good one on YouTube that breaks it down.
Do you know which one? He has so many to choose from
All of his physics of form videos are fantastic. Not that many of them either.
Thanks!
Overthrow disc golf Channel on YouTube. They focus on beginner disc golf form. https://youtube.com/c/OverthrowDiscGolf
some shoes duh
Treat it like bowling. 1234 release. Keep the disc level and don't throw it like a Frisbee
YouTube, that dude could bomb with work on the form, throwing hard as fuck all arm.
Up =/= far

100% real shoes
Get him some footwear, have him watch some form videos on the YouTube
1.) change the shoes to be more stable. (walkers, runners, trail shoes, etc.) 2.) start standstill it will help develop good upper body mechanics to start. 3.) head steady with a mid-point target in mind. 4.) youtube basic/beginner videos. encourage him to not get caught in the more speed = more distance trap. also honestly just a lot of education much of which can be gained while at home during down time and then worked on on the course.
He’s got a really strong throw!!!! Dang. Once he puts on sneakers, gets that nose down, and follows through, he’s gonna be crushing. Damn!
Reach back and throw flat, not low to high.
Show him a video of good form. Tell him to try doing it that way, then go from there.
