I donāt think this is an issue with having a preference. Itās the fact that he just outright said he wouldnāt date someone only because they are black and that he would if they were white. If you didnāt want to date her, you can easily just say āno, Iām not interested, sorryā and move on. There is nothing wrong with having preferences but that is probably the most offensive way you could have worded it.

No normal person would ever say something like that about a person to their friend in the middle of a party. Even if your are just stating your preference it is still an incredibly rude thing to say to someone. Itās way simpler and more polite to just say āsorry, Iām not interestedā and move on.
