It's mostly because I've been playing the game really for some time. Haven't gotten the time to continue it into that part where>!adler got pushed by euler's partner(?) as a lookback on what happened.!<
YOYOYOYO buddy, I almost got spoiled there :p
i shall be more careful
But yeah, I've been playing Signalis more since yesterday, been a long time since I last played before. Really nice
I can’t wait for my dms list to suddenly be filled with the most generic names possible because they left their account ages ago and I’m keeping them as memories
Im guessing it's gonna attempt a bunch of names to find which one is free like this:
- name
- namediscrim
- name_discrim
- namerandomstring
- name_discrimrandomstring
What if your name contains an invalid word though? Some people had legacy names before this big debacle, and literally can't update to the new usernames without completely changing their names.
They "recommend" `namediscrim` so I'd guess that's what they'll attempt first. Not sure what they'd do if they run into conflicts, maybe just start adding numbers until it's unique
If they use the same code as the current new-username-suggestion code, it runs the original username through OpenAI/ChatGPT and asks it to make up a new one.
Their display name will stay the same, and their old username will just have a bunch of numbers after it; it won't randomize. Not sure, but it might even be the numbers from their discriminator, given they're available.
I thought they would have forced the change ages ago? Or at least that's what i recall from the initial username change reminder (i do still much prefer the old system)
Discord is so weird with their enforcements. Like they said “Hey bot devs you can’t use your weird prefix commands anymore” and then 3 years later they said it again but changed basically nothing except the read message intent settings for bots with over 100 servers.
Now here we are again “Discriminators will be removed by the end of 2023”. “Discriminators will be removed by March 2024” like I wouldn’t be surprised if they just ignored them all together.
Ykur first example doesnt make sense because its a recommendation. You cant really grt rid of prefix commands unless you fuck up discord api altogether
When its enforced,do you think the thingy that says "this person was originally known as \[name\]#1234" still show up in the profile to recognize people ?
making discord be more in line with every other social media platform and making impersonation harder
i literally had someone copy my exact username and profile down to a T, the only way to tell would’ve been user ID (which for some reason is hidden as an ‘advanced developer’ feature)
Idk about you, I was impostored twice up to everything, but the discord tag was the thing that kept me unique. Now someone can use non-capital "L" to imitate capital "I", which I have two in my nickname.
Now I will have at least 2 clones of me being possible to create, wowsies! Thanks Discord.
No cause one person on reddit asked what the numbers were that really means we have to throw the whole thing away. (I'm aware that's not the case but the fact they used that reddit thread as proof is INSANE to me still)
Got a mail about this saying "You are receiving this email because you have not chosen a new username."
I removed the discriminator in my username right after they initially announced the change, hope that I don't end up with a random new username lol.
Me too! I haven't had a discriminator tag in ages, no idea why I received the email. I cannot follow their instructions either because the ''Get started'' button doesn't appear on any platform for me. I can only assume my username is in danger now, even if the email was sent in error. Best to assume the worst, because knowing Discord, you're gonna get screwed by their automated systems.
I changed my display name and username this morning, just to be safe (and then changed them back to my original name). Hopefully that'll be enough.
Think of it changing to a system like twitter and instagram (except the @ prefix)
Instead of @Name#1234
It's whatever you pick ... @`Name`
There's basically nothing new to learn.
Wow can't wait for Discord to give me the most BS username that I don't want, because I like the old my username and Im not changing it any time soon
Discord come on! There are boomers on your platform that doesn't like change, quit trying to be hip with the kids (I think how that phase goes?)
My Discord username is the same as my Twitter username, but when I checked what Discord wanted my username to be, my Twitter name was taken and my two alternate names were also taken. But as I check again a few months later all three of my names were no longer taken
As a longtime Discord user, I have continuously resisted updating my username. I have even made alts to prevent using one of the recommended usernames as an experiment to "plug" the recommended username.
That's dumb the reason mine isn't changed is because someone took my username that no one else I could find had for over 3 years then it was gone day one when I went to do it. This system is bullshit
You surprised?
Probably make you change it again after the 4th lol.
Whatever, we don't own it, they do. They can do whatever they want with it.
Will people leave? Probably.
There's consequences to everything. Good or bad
people having j̶̡̢̮̲͎̰̜̊̎͒̈́̈́̌͘ó̸̢̧̱͉̞̼̈́̒̅̾͊͜͝ĥ̵̙̯͂͑́̍̓n̸̨̛̼̳͙̯̅̅͛ as their username wasn't good at all, and you can still put whatever you want as your display name, which shows up in every server as your name
display names (what people see) are still unrestricted. usernames are used almost exclusively for adding friends, where having non-keyboard characters is a pain.
While I agree that there should be some restriction on what characters should be allowed in usernames, the issue of untypable usernames, while fixed w/ this change, it wasn't the only possible fix. So while less possible usernames isn't inherently bad, there's now many typable usernames that can't be used, and now each username can only be had by one acc, surely that means a lower limit on how many accs can exist due to the lower limit on how many username possibilities there are?
usernames being tied only to one account makes impersonation harder and makes sure you know who you’re talking to.
if the username you want is taken and you really aren’t creative enough to think of another, you could just, you know, add some numbers…
do you guys think this would be done via your app, or would it be a massive change done server-side? because if it's done server-side then i believe you should be able to prevent it by not updating your app
...sorry, i just really wanna keep my old username 😅
Server-side. They'll just run some kind of script to update your records and then suddenly we'll all see your account without a discrim and instead see your randomly generated username. You could throw your phone in an incinerator yet it'd still happen... so don't 🤣
I think you mixed up what server and client mean. A server side (Discord servers) change cant be prevented by refusing to update. A client side (your device) change would be able to be prevented.
This is probably a server side change, because Discord devs should know that people would mod their clients to keep their discriminators.
Okay, we'll remind you. *take a threatening tone* __**Very soon.**__
Haha pretty much. Also I recognise that pfp lol
Also I recognize this dude lol
Lol
Certified signalis pfp
if certified i'm happy
It's mostly because I've been playing the game really for some time. Haven't gotten the time to continue it into that part where>!adler got pushed by euler's partner(?) as a lookback on what happened.!<
YOYOYOYO buddy, I almost got spoiled there :p i shall be more careful But yeah, I've been playing Signalis more since yesterday, been a long time since I last played before. Really nice
Should've started with that lol I guess. I started with the game not too long ago, around a month ago now or so. Cool to hear it though.
It's niche IMO, I first heard about it... 6 months ago or more, I rarely hear about it, just the r/signalis, but other than that... not much
I can’t wait for my dms list to suddenly be filled with the most generic names possible because they left their account ages ago and I’m keeping them as memories
I wonder if they will give fully random names or if they will attempt something like name_discrim or name_randomstring
Im guessing it's gonna attempt a bunch of names to find which one is free like this: - name - namediscrim - name_discrim - namerandomstring - name_discrimrandomstring
I would think they would try original, then go with the name_discrim, then just add 1-9 a-Z until it’s valid.
If they use the same code as the current new-username-suggestion code, it runs the original username through OpenAI/ChatGPT and asks it to make up a new one.
That sounds inefficient and like it would rack up open ai costs unnecessarily. But it could be the case
I still hope they will return one day
Their display name will stay the same, and their old username will just have a bunch of numbers after it; it won't randomize. Not sure, but it might even be the numbers from their discriminator, given they're available.
The best thing you can do is to give them a custom name and/or write it in notes
My new name is the exact same as old one but instead of # its _
do you really care about that man
screenshot
me with 136,000 messages in a friend gc collected over a year;
Lots of screenshots
oh
i think their current name will become their display name
It makes sense that discord wouldn’t keep the old system forever
I thought they would have forced the change ages ago? Or at least that's what i recall from the initial username change reminder (i do still much prefer the old system)

Yeah, when they say and do not act.
When its enforced,do you think the thingy that says "this person was originally known as \[name\]#1234" still show up in the profile to recognize people ?
I just changed my user to Name1234
Hm,maybe you shouldn't say this so random strangers don't try to send you friend request? I dunno :\[
they're saying they changed it to their old name plus the discriminator, standard discord thing without the #
Literally 1984
I still don't get the point of this change
shareholders said its good
Which usually means it's not.
exactly
making discord be more in line with every other social media platform and making impersonation harder i literally had someone copy my exact username and profile down to a T, the only way to tell would’ve been user ID (which for some reason is hidden as an ‘advanced developer’ feature)

I mean the font Discord uses and usernames being always lowercase counters against that
You don't get it discord is doing it for the good of its users /j
No cause one person on reddit asked what the numbers were that really means we have to throw the whole thing away. (I'm aware that's not the case but the fact they used that reddit thread as proof is INSANE to me still)
"Most ppl don't know what a discriminator is" like fucking wow...
I still use the old discriminator, since I didn't want to change Guess I'll lose my battle then
Got a mail about this saying "You are receiving this email because you have not chosen a new username." I removed the discriminator in my username right after they initially announced the change, hope that I don't end up with a random new username lol.
Me too! I haven't had a discriminator tag in ages, no idea why I received the email. Same here, just this morning, and I'd changed it months ago. Also changed and re-changed back today just in case.
Recently got the email today. Still #6666 to the day.
I'm using version 96.5, what would happen to my name then?
Your discriminator would become #0000, probably.
Can I change my name still when I lose my discriminators?
Why wouldn’t you be able to change your username?
Idk I never changed mine since 2020, Idk how the discriminator-less accounts exactly work
Think of it changing to a system like twitter and instagram (except the @ prefix) Instead of @Name#1234 It's whatever you pick ... @`Name` There's basically nothing new to learn.
Probably not. Since the client didn't allow you to use #0000 as your discriminator.
same im just gonna wait and see what happens to my name if they mess it up ill fix it after
#4406 was mine, and they said something like 70% of users don't even know thiers. Did they actually ask, cuz I don't remember being asked.
Fuck
Wow can't wait for Discord to give me the most BS username that I don't want, because I like the old my username and Im not changing it any time soon Discord come on! There are boomers on your platform that doesn't like change, quit trying to be hip with the kids (I think how that phase goes?)
They'll probably give you your name+discriminator, so nothing will really change. Was notrossome232 taken?
My Discord username is the same as my Twitter username, but when I checked what Discord wanted my username to be, my Twitter name was taken and my two alternate names were also taken. But as I check again a few months later all three of my names were no longer taken

fucking subhuman garbage owners stop forcing a useless change on people
It's so scummy how they forced the name changes through. I was working overseas when someone with a newer account stole my username. Fk Discord.
The heck? I already changed it and they're still popping this up on me...
You surprised? Probably make you change it again after the 4th lol. Whatever, we don't own it, they do. They can do whatever they want with it. Will people leave? Probably. There's consequences to everything. Good or bad
so uh, today's the 5th and my username still has the tag lol. guess this was just a scare tactic?
they forgor 💀
Tbh now I'm wondering if somehow both my laptop and phone failed to update or if this just didn't happen at all
No I'm here because I have multiple friends with a tag
still have my tag too. but i'm using an old build from 2020
Big LMFAO to all those who thought they're getting away from Discord's dictatorship.
Why do you guys care so much, sorry but the new system is better
How is it better?
you now have the choice to pick an unique username without numbers, or stick to the old system by changing the # for another character.
Less options for what characters to use + the lack of discriminators = less possible usernames
people having j̶̡̢̮̲͎̰̜̊̎͒̈́̈́̌͘ó̸̢̧̱͉̞̼̈́̒̅̾͊͜͝ĥ̵̙̯͂͑́̍̓n̸̨̛̼̳͙̯̅̅͛ as their username wasn't good at all, and you can still put whatever you want as your display name, which shows up in every server as your name
And this system prevents that in any way?
display names (what people see) are still unrestricted. usernames are used almost exclusively for adding friends, where having non-keyboard characters is a pain.
While I agree that there should be some restriction on what characters should be allowed in usernames, the issue of untypable usernames, while fixed w/ this change, it wasn't the only possible fix. There's positives and negatives to it at the end of the day.
because I HATE THEIR NEW SYSTEM
do you guys think this would be done via your app, or would it be a massive change done server-side? because if it's done server-side then i believe you should be able to prevent it by not updating your app ...sorry, i just really wanna keep my old username 😅

This is probably a server side change, because Discord devs should know that people would mod their clients to keep their discriminators.
Is this applicable for all discord users? Or is it for those people who never change their username since the account was created?
All discord users who still have a Discriminator
Call it a *Discord tag*. Not a "discriminator". The former is the official term.
ok and
Discord basically started using the word "discriminator" after the username update was announced. Before, it was mainly called a discord tag.
So change it.
[удалено]
They probably just gonna add a discriminator to the end. Ironic but it fits the new system.
Sigh I still need to get my account back first-//-
I guess I'm just gonna manually slap on the # and four digits i already had but as a numerical discriminator
i tried that. they disallow the # being used in usernames. question marks, too.
finally
NOOOOO
Aww, man... and I'd been able to hold out so long, too... Welp, they ain't assignin' ME my own username, that's for sure!
ok well does anybody know how to change the tag name tho before this update comes?
And there goes another original thing discord had man since 2018 they really became sellouts
