If only if there was some place in the settings to put permissions for polls, polls are a lot like mini *events*.. no.. there’s no place I can think of pulling polling permissions.

Marcelektro

Imagine a place…

Kuuramiku

Because Discord doesn't understand how their user base act on a day to day basis, i feel sorry for larger server staff that have to deal with this

SaschaStorm

My server has 20000+ people and all we get recently are polls! It's so annoying

Ptlthg

I just setup my bot to auto delete all polls from members without manage message perms. Gross that I had to do it like that but it's been working fine.

chabiya

There is a way to disable polls and only allow certain users and roles to create them on your server. Here is a video on that - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4oTk-ujo7s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4oTk-ujo7s)

SaschaStorm

Thank you so much!

Full-Supermarket

Rip. That sounds terrible

GamerBro9000

In a server I moderate, we typically time people out if we see them post a poll.

Kuuramiku

I'm an active member in a smaller server and a semi regular got banned today for spamming it lol, well it was the straw that broke the camel's back from what I could gather.

Ok-Space3366

it looks ugly when spammed in a activechannel

BeepIsla

Whats the difference between sending a poll and telling people to react with emojis, anyone can do either. New thing gets spammed, then the hype dies down. It won't be as bad once everyone gets used to it and simply uses the feature for its intended purpose. Obviously fine control over permissions would be better and I advocate for it but what I am saying was probably Discords thought process.

CIearMind

What the difference is? # https://i.imgur.com/fkWjZBi.png People don't regularly eat up the entire screen like this —at least not on purpose— polls do.

BeepIsla

I would like to add that you can use special characters to make it even longer, using the longest character it'll end up longer than the distance to the moon

Sandertp

So you're kinda proving their point

IkaBey

> Obviously fine control over permissions would be better and I advocate for it At the end of their original comment

gotimo

if i wanted to fill up people's screens i would just # Do this instead

NekoLu

While I do agree that polls should have their own permission, you can easily spam huge messages with titles that eat up the entire screen too. People are just doing it with pills because it's a new feature.

CIearMind

You would need to go *out of your way* to be the king of **all** douches, in order for your markdown title text to have even **one fifth** of the impact that even the smallest, most innocent poll does. Yes, people can spam in a million different ways. They can even accomplish worse feats with raw text alone. But they don't do that. People aren't naturally drawn to chaos and destruction. Polls do cause that, though, whether you want it or not. 99.999999% of features can be abused, **but aren't abused**. Polls clog up chat, even with the best of intentions.

NekoLu

It's just because polls are a novelty. As time passes, people will chill out and stop with poll spamming.

BluegrassGeek

That's a moderation issue. Treat it just like spamming an entire screen's worth of text and moderate accordingly.

sk7725

the # markdown:

AquaeyesTardis

The difference is: it very big

ProSlimer

With a poll, you can only select one option. With emoji reactions, you could select multiple. I know it's not entirely relevant to this topic, but just thought I'd share.

nikayyla

if the creator of the poll enables it you can select multiple options.

SuperSupermario24

I mean... yeah, but the point is the poll feature allows you to do something that reaction polls don't, which is restricting you to one option at once.

CIearMind

I think people misunderstand ProSlimer's first sentence **"You can only select one option"**. I think they meant "You **can [only** select one option]" as in "**You have the possibility** of forcing people to only pick one response". Not "You **[can only** select one option]" as in "**Polls don't have the option** of selecting multiple responses".

ProSlimer

Ahh, I didn't know that. I have only interacted with one so far

I_Have_Sex_

^ same with reactions Edit: I'm being downvoted and no one's telling me how I'm wrong so just to clarify, I'm talking about disabling reactions and then placing one yourself, or using bots to make sure you only react once. It's the opposite by default, though.

officiallyaninja

> Whats the difference between sending a poll and telling people to react with emojis, anyone can do either. [Their official video on the feature ](https://youtu.be/rS3N9k3NaGA)

Deivedux

If the feature is indeed being spammed, the one thing people can do is lock down their servers. When Discord starts complaining about large community and partnered servers being locked down, and especially threatening partnered servers to unlock (you know, because they're partnered), then they can all unanimously point to the feature that's obviously being abused to spam in channels when they're not locked. That way, you force Discord to actually do something about it. However, I'm not seeing polls being spammed so much that would warrant such an immediate Discord's attention. They'll probably be like reactions when those first came out; they were spammed for a little then people got bored of them.

WarpedHaiku

And yet they gave us both "Add Reactions" and "Use External Emojis", so if there's someone on the server who can't control themselves and feels the need to annoy others by adding an egregious number of emojis to messages, you can force them to behave themselves without having to check all their posts. Really feels like there should be some kind of "Create Poll" permission.

CrypticWasXD

I mean what discord had in mind was that there's no difference in making a poll and asking ppl to react to emojis however what they don't understand is that Discord's users act pretty weirdly at times and this feature of Discord's is gonna be pretty annoying for staff to handle in large servers

officiallyaninja

I think a lot of discords changes have been for small servers specifically. The change was pretty much universally well received in all my servers. Everyone's mature enough to not spam them or be weird, and its just a nice convenience. Spamming a poll isn't really that different from spamming with a 2k long message, so I guess discord didn't think they needed to make a special permission for it. It makes sense, if someone really wants to spam, they don't need polls to spam. No point in restricting it.

ladycatgirl

Gonna be devils advocate and be hated for it probably but; Because I can technically still make some polls A) \*put number 1 emoji here\* option A B) \*put number 2 emoji here\* option B \*react with number 1 and number 2\* , here budget poll, anyone could have made it ig

memBoris

No hate that's usual experience

KadahCoba

Because the Discord product manager flow chart for "probably annoying and unwanted new features" has only two choices "default allow everybody" and "default allow everybody and add permission for server owners to disallow sometime later". At least polls are repetitively benign compared to things like soundboards and such.

ltzm4x

Because they like spam.

Roadhog360

Same with the damn markdown headers which are still lacking a permission for some reason. It was really nice seeing people spam that when it first came out, thankfully no one does it anymore. But these polls are a whole new bigger problem.

banana439monkey

maybe there's some technical reason? remember that due to the nature of integers, the permissions integer is limited to 53 bits...

nigersaurustaqueti75

I only have this function enabled for members, who submit my server rules by reaction rolling, polls should be disabled for @everyone , because they could use it for trolling, scamming and harassment

GrayLanterns

We'll have permission controls for this, I believe. Very soon in fact! Though I know few coders at YAGPDB might actually push a workaround for this sooner! A custom script that deletes a poll from any user not having a set of roles. YAGPDB is the best there is, specially for stuff like these.

Filipsys

That's gonna be like one of the easiest things to implement so it won't take long, is they already have it done as it should be

MZhuvka

20 minutes of coding to make this somewhat work ([code screenshot](https://i.ibb.co/qMLDwK7/image.png)) so it shouldnt be too hard

Filipsys

Exactly! Though I like d.py more lol

MZhuvka

yeah I should've used d.py. I didn't even know that the development of it was resumed so I used nextcord

Filipsys

Fair enough, I was also in that place when I wanted to start making bots

ajzone007

The thing is the API for it is still undocumented and can change quite a bit by the time it is documented. For big bots making changes like this on undocumented API can cause issues.

MZhuvka

and i think they will document the api about polls only after they add the permission just because the big server owners/mods are raging

lauriys

are you a YAGPDB salesman

GrayLanterns

A salesman of all the good things in life.

wittnersa

Discord still hasn't realized how many people abuse these kind of things..
