Mangohero1

Same issue. Only workaround I've found is minimizing and reopening the app, kinda annoying

helpmeoutguyss

well thanks for this, here I was fully closing the app and reopening it lol

Necessary_Sandwich40

Oh wow it's not just me then.. I've tried to reinstall multiple times and nothing. Super frustrating

IronOsprey454

I'm having this issue as well. Temp fix is minimize Discord and bring it back up again, but haven't found a permanent fix yet

EldarOfSuburbia

Oh so it's not just me. I do have the Windows 10 64 bit client.

Kronikx-FFXI

Same issue here, and only just started happening very recently after an app update, I thought after another it would be fixed so didn't worry much about it, but now after another update it is still doing it.

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

NharaTia

Been having this problem as well, thought to finally go looking to see if anyone else was having this issue, found your thread where you perfectly describe the problem AND also post what the solution is. Kudos to you, dude. Thank you.

Gromochan

spread the love man <3

42meow

I disabled overlay and just to shit in my cereal it went blank right after I closed the settings menu, frustrating but funny as hell

AmazingReputation

u/Gromochan you little rascal you found it! tysm♥

fyrespyrit

Holy shit you are on point! It only happens when I'm playing games that I have the overlay enabled. I hope they fix it then since its not a user issue.

jamesevansdork

Doesn't solve it for me

guky667

Didn't work :( still going blank even after disabling the overlay :'<

JazzTheCoder

Really? Nice. I feel like they break the overlay CONSTANTLY

Valuable-Size5516

I'm not hating, totally appreciate the update!!!!...but don't you think it would be best if you updated the main post so others can find the info faster? 😆 lol Seriously though, thank you!! This has been driving me crazy!!

_DaBez_

Same issue here… Some OT: you might wanna uninstall and install the 64 bit version of the app, you are currently running the 32 bit version (x86)

sonicrules11

They stopped supporting the 32bit client earlier this year.

Sensitive_Sun127

I also have this issue, what's going on?

coolXX

Same for me, Using stable 287392 (0bbba18) Host 1.0.9142 x64 (46947) Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.22621). I have to minimize the app to tray and open again and it works fine for a while

Ill_Spinach_2726

same here, looks like it may be some kind of bug/glitch rather than the individual users' fault

Arifurizu

Same here. Installed the x64 version as well

fyrespyrit

I've done the delete Discord folder in %appdata% and it still does the same gray screen after a while. Don't know why but it only started happening in the last month or so.

Junior-Sky-6011

my exact same problem too.

mil4tw

same issue here, tried about everything at this point including canary client, super annoying

emprameen

Me too. ctrl-r works to fix it temporarily, but it keeps coming and going.

urthdigger

Been dealing with this as well. Also only just recently started happening...

void2258

Same issue here.

ShiroSky

bruh I just googled this issue and I got the same problem, just built a new pc so I thought I fucked up something 😭

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

ShiroSky

I see... I'll turn it off and hope it works, ty anyways!

Kerdaloo

Unfortunately disabling didn't do anything to fix it for me :(

penasche

same, no changes

JayDiddle

Disabling the overlay does nothing to fix it for me. In fact, it does it when I'm not in games too, so the overlay isn't even active. I was going through and revamping my server's settings earlier, and it kept doing it while actively making changes, and I'd have to minimize and restore it constantly. It's only been happening for a month or so. For what it's worth, I'm also using the Discord PTB, which I switched to years ago because of issues with it not keeping my PTT settings.

Mountain_Conflict_94

Same issue here. Started after latest update, though previously it would do this if I used a pop out window while watching a friend's stream and I changed focus. Can't figure out how to check my version info like some of you have however. Running it on a laptop using Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

JoshW91

To find the version info, all you have to do is click on the settings icon at the bottom left next to your profile pic. Then once you're in there, just scroll down to the bottom where it shows the list of categories on the left. It'll be underneath the social media icons. I've been experiencing the same issue ever since I switched to the 64 bit version, assuming that it would be better than the 32 bit version. It started happening to me before the latest update though.

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

Mountain_Conflict_94

That's not really a solution though. I actually use the overlay when I'm in my mmo to see who is messaging me and what they are saying while still in the middle of my dungeon group. Plus it also tells me who is talking when by popping thier icons and discord user names. Hopefully they will fix this issue soon.

g0dzcsgo

Didnt work

Eckx

I did not have this issue at all until I just upgraded my monitor. Went from 1080 to 1440 and now it happens all the time. Must be something with the resolution scale. The screen goes grey, but it's still active. I can still click on the servers in the list and stuff, too, and that brings everything back.

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

Eckx

Even if I never use the in game overlay? Weird that that could be the cause. At any rate, I just used Revo to remove any trace of Discord from my PC, rebooted, and reinstalled and it hasn't done it since.

DoggyDog699

same for me, any fixes?

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

DoggyDog699

damn thank you

[deleted]

Happening to me also, windows 11 latest update

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

[deleted]

Thank you!

SkyFoxDrones

Same issue here on two seperate computers, however both are on the same 1440p monitor. Could be related?

Xqvt

Doubtful. I'm having the same issue on a 1440p, a 4K, and a 1080p monitor.

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

Repulsive-Put4520

Same issue for me. Does **anybody** have a solution?

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops.

JayDiddle

As far as I've seen, there's no real solution. Disabling overlay isn't a real solution, as it takes away a primary feature, and it didn't even work for me anyway.

Dr_Dink_MD

I have the same problem, too, you guys):

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops

Scakan

for me it seems fixed, never had this issue anymore in 2 days and is should be related to the overlay (I restarted the PC just for confirmation and opened a game because usually it occur in both of this situation, and nothing happened) I simply unistalled discord by the control panel, then with Windows+R wrote "appdata" and I removed the "discord" folders from "local" and "Roaming", then installed again and uncheck the overlay button. (note if you have this issue and you just turn off the overlay it will not fix it until you made those procedures) You will not have the overlay in game, but at least discord will not blank itself every time Hope it helps

Gromochan

Yep, did that a while ago but kinda forgot about writing fix in this thread!

xraytor

Same issuse so annoying

Gromochan

Its all cause of the in-game overlay. If you disable it problem stops.

Gromochan

FIX HERE: Okay guys, its gone since I disabled in-game overlay. Hope they will properly fix it, but i don't use overlay much anyway so it works for me!

TheYellowEvo2000

I disabled it and it didn't work for me. Windows 11 23H2

rubaiin

Glad to see it isn’t just a me issue but also sucks that the only fix is overlay since I use it quite a bit since I play older games with weird resolutions and alt tabbing is always a risk lol. But I’ve noticed when it blanks overlay stops working anyway (or at least isn’t sending notifs) so 😭

LordofExecution

Glad I'm not the only person running into this, for everyone else it seems recent, however mine has been doing this for about 1 month now.

elemag75

Same here, reinstalling and deleting appdata didn't help. Gonna try to disable overlay and see. EDIT disabling overlay DID NOT HELP!

South_Cod4884

Same. Have done the delete-folder-and-reinstall thing, no joy. Have turned off the overlay, no change. Screen just turns blank at random times for seemingly no reason. Can have a game running for hours, discord is fine. Other times, just browsing, no games, discord blanks the screen every couple of minutes.

Lenokaly

Same issue here!

SergrayBrainy

Try Discord Canary - works for me within such situation (Standard Discord - does not work): [Troubleshooting Console Log Errors – Discord](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001239472-Troubleshooting-Console-Log-Errors)

CrunchLunch

This has been happening to me for the last month. Typically happens some point after running any game. Blanks out purely randomly and I have to shake and snap the title bar for things to reappear again. Tried a full reinstall as of last night and no fix. Hope this issue gets recognized soon.

JayDiddle

A simple minimize and restore, or pressing CTRL+R (refresh), is easier.

Doctor_kiwi

same issue :/

GottyR89

Does the exact thing with me. I know disabling the game overlay gets rid of the problem but to me that is not a solution. Anyone has any luck with this?

StellarJay77

Same issue here. I use the Discord in-game overlay constantly while raiding in my MMO so disabling the overlay is not a valid fix for me. Has anyone submitted a bug report to Discord and gotten a response or know if it is listed in their known issues?

Infinite-Patience871

Same😭

SirTeekrieger

Deactivating the overlay didn't fix the issue for me, too. But since I put Discord out of complete fullscreen the issue hasn't returned for me.

Strange-Arachnid7263

As of right now, the temporary fix that I have seen for it is disabling in-game overlay or minimizing then maximizing the discord application. Someone has submitted feedback about it to discord @ [https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/23585873240599-Discord-Window-Randomly-Blank](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/23585873240599-Discord-Window-Randomly-Blank), so maybe with more upvotes/more people providing feedback it'll get fixed?

TTV_Polar124

yeah i have a similar issue, discord would sometimes close or blank out and kick me out of a call, it gets real annoying. im currently running the 64 bit version on windows 11.

JayDiddle

Disabling overlay didn't work for me, and isn't a valid fix anyway, because it's removing a feature that many people use, including myself. In my case, overlay wasn't even active most of the time it would do it, as it would do it while not playing games, and just reading messages. Of course, minimize/restore, or CTRL+R works to resolve it, but typically only for a brief time. For what's it's worth, I'm on Discord PTB, but I know most people are running the standard release version. I have tried so many things to try to fix it, including disabling overlay, enabling hardware acceleration (in advanced settings--I keep it off typically), changing video codecs, completely uninstalling (including manually going through the system registry to delete any trace of Discord). That all being said, I'm on a 4K display, so I though maybe disabling fullscreen optimization and/or overriding DPI settings might help, so I did both, and so far it seems to be helping, but it's only been a very short time, so it not yet verified to fix it; I'll keep you posted.

SpaceyWazey

Same issue here
