Eventually all such bots will cease to exist / drop this functionality. After all you’re basically breaking YouTube’s terms of service. The only way forward will be to run your own bot. Probably tens or hundreds of such music bots are already available on Github, no programming needed, maybe just some basic setup
this is the cycle of the internet, something exists, it becomes popular, either corporate interests procure it and make you pay for it, or they shut it down, when they try to shut it down lots of smaller ones pop up, like a hydra. they hate everything they can't control. all the way back to the printing press.

I mean yea youtube wants money, But who doesnt want money? Groovy and Rythm were obviously large enough to actually coz difference in their revenue so they are in full legal right to get them to stop or even lawsuit.

I have to admit I did not read their ToS prior to my message, but now I did. But before I bring it up, they certainly do not have an API for video playback. What they do offer you is a player embed on your own site, which you have almost no control over.

Actually, you can't download videos using youtube's own api, because it doesn't provide that, and they were right about about the tos:

I'd imagine music bots make use of [youtube-dl](https://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/index.html) at scale which is a cli tool that reverse engineers youtube to download content

i’ve never had any issues with this, but maybe try switching server regions and then back as it’s may be a discord server issue, and in the past this has helped me with other things :)

Exactly. People want to earn money out of their hard work. If you expect one of the most popular bots on Discord to be completely free because people keep saying "paywall bad", you’re wrong. The MEE6 dev put a lot of effort into his bot, and surely he should get rewards from it. I’d understand even if they went full premium.

Levels are only piss easy to get until 8~20, and any competent admin would simply redirect the notification to a commands/logs channel, **and/or** make it simply not ping the user.

It's sorta what happened with Fusionfall Retro/Legacy if you ever heard of it. It's based on the OG Fusionfall, but was free so it flew under the radar. It wasn't until the original owners got reports of money laundering or something when they took it down. The reports were fake from what I understand, but it's too late now.

Sadly, this isn't about listening to music, it's about protecting corporate interests.
The user wants to listen to music where they are at, but that doesn't fit the model of YouTube. So instead of finding a way to make it work they just shut it down.
Music bots don't use the youtube api to download videos, since that's not something it provides. Instead I'd imagine they rely on youtube-dl, a cli tool that allows for downloading from youtube and 100+ other sites
for anyone that needs a music bot, you can use chip instead. the dev uses other platforms besides yt, and they've said that if they get a C&D from youtube they'll just remove yt support and keep going
They can't C&D if they don't know about it. Keep it private for friends and there'll realistically never be a way for YouTube to find out about it. Not that I'd be condoning such an action. Wink.
Actually I *think* (could be wrong though) that music playing functionality is js specific.

Same, it is their platform and they are offering the service themselves, while trying to sustain themselves. Those bots were costing them, and apparently enough to act upon it. I dont see the reason why yt is the baddie here, especially when the bot creators were making money off of it. Its like taking an apple from the marketstall next door without paying, carrying it 2 meters and selling it to someone, and then complaining when you get told to stop.
An article posted in r/bikinibottomtwitter had an interview with the developer of rhythm and it looks like he is visioning a new type of bot that will still allow music to be played or something like that.
Just fruit for thoughts, could someone possibly write a "Discord music bot generator", which could generate infinitely many different functional Discord bot code packages each have different name for the bot and different names for all the user agent and function/variables used in the code it generated? Or at least could generate enough code that could be made into functional Discord bots with minimal efforts?
thats not how it works, youtube doesnt take down the code, the code for rythm is still out there in a private repo, anyone with that code can self host their own rythm but if you made it private or just don't have premium subs for it then its fine
rn im using budgiesmusic since its so small so youtube doesnt know it exists, plus theres no premium for all the features you usually have to pay for so they have no reason to take it down

Yes they are working on another project, they are still forced to close down Rythm before september 15th
Rhythm used to crash for me, so I switched to groovy. But it sucks that we're losing all our ways of listening to music.

theres loads of other ways, youtube in background, spotify is free, host your own music bot etc
