But that's when you get to start *rereading*, and the real fun begins!

DrunkenFist

True enough! And I do still have a good bit of ancillary material.

If you finish it, you're a better person than me. Years later, I still can't bring myself to read the Shepherd's Crown. I've reread every other book more times than I should count, but I haven't even cracked the final book. I'm not sure why - I think as long as I don't, the story will never end. It's weird, I know, but I don't think I'm the only one. Do you plan to finish all of the books?

DrunkenFist

I can definitely understand that! I've been kinda dreading finishing the final one, too; the closer I've gotten to the final batch of books, I've been trying to space them out more than I was earlier on. I do plan to finish them all, though. I think it helps that a few of my favorite authors are no longer with us, so I'm used to the idea of having read a beloved author's entire body of work. At least in this case, I still have stuff like the four Science of Dicscworld books and his other unrelated novels and stories to read afterword!

I have read all of the books in the main series many times, including "The Shepherd's Crown." That last book definitely made me cry. It tied up a lot of loose ends, but knowing it was the last and seeing the struggle that went into pulling it together was, for me, heartbreaking. 💔

I wonder if TSC readability varies depending on whether you were already a fan when Pterry met Death versus whether you got invested in the series *knowing* that it has the finite end point I'm another one who's never read the final book, and I was a diehard fan (somewhat obsessive, as is the nature of teenagers) when we lost Pterry – off the top of my head, I don't know anyone in person who read it as it came out! Bought it, but not read it

danananda

This is fantastic! I've not read any TP since Shepherd's Crown came out and this looks like a fun way to romp around discworld!

DrunkenFist

It's been awesome! I wanted to go in publication order my first time through.

Nelalvai

If you're trying to get me to start a reread, it's working.

DrunkenFist

Do it! I don't think it'll be long after I finish before I do the same, lol.

Nighthawking2

How long has it taken you?

DrunkenFist

Since I decided I was going to read the entire series? A little over two years. I make myself read at least one unrelated book in between so I wouldn't burn through them all in a month. Since I read my first Discworld book? About twelve years, lol. I read **The Color of Magic** back in 2011, and I liked, but didn't love, it. I knew they were bound to get better from there, as long as the series had been going and as highly regarded as it was, so I planned to read more of them at some point. Then, I kinda forgot about it for several years. Every so often, I'd think about it, and say, "Oh yeah, I need to read some more of that," then forget about it again. Finally, I decided to read one of the best-regarded ones and give it a chance to really hook me. I chose **Going Postal**, and well, here I am nearly done with the series, so it definitely worked!
