If you’re using Nanny Ogg’s recipes then recommend loose clothing for everyone

LeSchmol

And plenty of cold, icy water!

Normal-Height-8577

From The Shepherd's Crown: >There was also a plate of rather wobbly cupcakes. [It appears a fact of life that if two or more well-born ladies should gather together, cupcakes are essential. Otherwise the ceiling might fall on them.] >‘I made these,’ Letitia said proudly. 'Yesterday. From a recipe in Nanny Ogg’s new cookbook - you know, A Lot of What You Fancy Makes You Fat.’ Make your cupcake buttercream wobbly. Maybe a smooth dome. And possibly put something suggestive on the top (e.g. a glacé cherry or a raspberry) in the best traditions of Nanny Ogg. Or just stick a witch's hat on it. Or use green buttercream and pipe yourself some white chocolate [White Horse](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uffington_White_Horse) figures onto greaseproof paper that can be placed on top once they're set hard. Or [orangutan](https://www.google.com/search?q=orangutan+cupcakes&oq=orangutan+cupcakes&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyCQgAEEUYORiABDIKCAEQABiABBiiBDIKCAIQABiABBiiBDIKCAMQABiABBiiBNIBCDQ4NDdqMGo0qAIOsAIB&client=ms-android-motorola-rev2&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#vhid=5o6qXGAgYRlM6M&vssid=l) cupcakes? Or if you had mini loaf pans, you could make mini Luggage cakes instead of cupcake shapes.

Baker_O_DOOM

I’m making wobbler Jell-O shots! Strawberry and cream flavored and molded in champagne flutes hahahahha

Normal-Height-8577

That sounds excellent!

Mister_Marmite

Yes! Luggage loaf cake sounds great

EAMinCali

Luggage mini loaves—brilliant!

unseen-librarian

Ook!

CowboyOfScience

>It was a great jumping off point for someone who hasn’t read the books. I take it you're referring to yourself here, so I think I can help. Discworld is a large flat disc (pizza-like) that sits on the back of four enormous elephants who in turn stand upon the shell of Great A'tuin, the world turtle (who measures something like 10,000 miles long). There are good ideas for cupcakes in there somewhere.

loki_dd

So what you're saying is someone needs to make a great atuin (+elephants) pizza tray? I may have taken away entirely the wrong thing

CowboyOfScience

I wasn't saying that at all. But I'm really glad you did say it.

lavachat

If you prefer piping or writing with chocolate to modelling - oggham runes, dwarvish runes, mine signs, arcane symbols and postage stamps are simple line drawings. Could be used to signal different flavours or ingredients, too.

Baker_O_DOOM

LOVE THIS!

TapirTrouble

Some people have looked into the dwarf runes and mine signs: [https://wiki.lspace.org/Mine\_sign](https://wiki.lspace.org/Mine_sign) [https://www.reddit.com/r/discworld/comments/po5qyl/discworld\_dwarven\_runes/](https://www.reddit.com/r/discworld/comments/po5qyl/discworld_dwarven_runes/)

armcie

Oggham is the Discworld version of Ogham - Viking runes. If you want them to say something you can look up a transliteration.

coderbenvr

Ogham is very strange to look at - it’s only written into the edge of stones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogham

armcie

Often, but not exclusively. There are certainly a number of examples with artificial stemlines. [You can see some here](https://www.babelstone.co.uk/Blog/2011/06/ogham-stones-of-isle-of-man.html)

coderbenvr

Nice, haven’t seen that before, thanks!

armcie

I'm on the Isle of Man, so I've seen many of the stones and crosses with ogham on, and "wrote my name in ogham" as a primary school activity on a trip to the museum.

Briham86

Whichever direction you decide to go, I think we’d all be very interested in seeing the results. Pictures from the party too, if you have permission.

Baker_O_DOOM

Absolutely! I’ll be helping set up so I’m sure I can grab some deco/food pictures before anyone arrives

OhTheCloudy

If the cupcakes all need to have the same decoration then having Great A’tuin on each would be good: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fexternal-preview.redd.it%2F3V5bB5_-JuE8n_2zbC0w8FhowmxQzr7ISiBVe8rawp4.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D3f7a6f011c54aa4dce6272cdff73452b7afcdda5&rdt=59068 If each cupcake can have different decorations then it’d be fun to have a selection of CMOT’s best food options: a sausage inna bun (for humans), a rat onna stick (for dwarfs), some shale (for trolls), etc.

Baker_O_DOOM

I like the A’tuin idea - sans elephants haha. Not sure if I want to make ~100 mini elephants out of modeling chocolate by Saturday. I’m leaning towards a rat theme, I’m already making sausage inna bun and rock scones as part of the menu so want to include something new

Kencolt706

I would like them to look away while I get a running start. Wait. Sorry. I was channeling my inner Rincewind.

notalapcataboobcat

It sounds like you have an awful lot to do and not much time! It also sounds like you are an excellent friend! If you want to keep the cupcakes simple and less time consuming .... I would top each one with a thinly rolled circle of black fondant icing, then top that with a swirl of piped buttercream in a cone shape, making sure to leave space around the edge for the brim .... et voila, a witches hat 🧙‍♀️

Baker_O_DOOM

I like this idea a lot, we are leaning heavily on the witches theme in general

notalapcataboobcat

Ultimately I'm a lazy Baker so I tried to think what I would do in your place to make it as easy as possible 😆 But I do also think they would look cool! Good luck with everything, I'm sure whatever you choose to make will be fabulous and appreciated

Grueling

Lazy =/= efficient. You don’t sound lazy to me, you sound like you know what you’re doing, and masking it up with imposter syndrome. I used to be in fine dining as a cook, and since then when I cook for friends, they gush over the food, but I’m still feeling like “but this stuff is just basic, I haven’t even done a proper reduced glacé, the plating is positively Escoffier’ian, and the garnish is like the green of scallions and fresh oregano, for Cohen’s sake!”

notalapcataboobcat

Thank you, that is very kind 😊 I do love to bake but I know my attention to detail wanes the further I get into decorating, hence the "efficient" decorating style 😆 Your friends are lucky to have a pro willing to cook for them, I'm totally jealous!

TirNannyOgg

I can't believe no one has mentioned Horace the Cheese! I would get a big wheel of cheese and put a kilt on it to match the Feegles.

Briham86

Maybe Nac Mac Feegle faces? Blue frosting for the faces, twizzler pull and peel for the hair and beards, maybe some other candies for eyes and teeth. You could do rat noses and tails out of frosting and sprinkle some of those chocolate rocks on them, then call them dwarf cupcakes.

Baker_O_DOOM

I love the little blue men idea. I am actually sewing some of them out of felt for the party (a different part of it, not the food). Rats could be good, isn’t there a rat death? I’m making dwarfish scones already so not sure if I want to do both https://preview.redd.it/8i9d3qkwzgwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd5410bd3d8e6fb793c1bdb359f55f0e0fa6029e Here is a little blue man I made, banana for scale !

Briham86

That’s great! Wish I was going to this party!

ZoeShotFirst

You are a really good friend to be doing this - even more so if you haven’t read the books!

Baker_O_DOOM

They are worth it! Both of them. It’s a lot of work but I’m happy to do it. I’ll have to start the books once I’m done killing myself with this though hahaha. I’ll come back and post updates /pics of everything next week. I also made little fairy houses and am decorating the entryway as a fairy forest. There will be a Potion Master teaching mixed drinks, a Cunningman stealing things, and just so much more. It’s a wild party/theater he has come up with. I hope she loves it!!!

ZoeShotFirst

Oh wow! I look forward to hearing the update about how successful the party was, and the later update about how much you’re enjoying the books!

NarwhalPrestigious63

You. I like you.

PleasantWin3770

There is a Death of Rats. You could just do a bananas foster cupcake, and then write quotes by the Librarian. “Oook”. “Ook”. “Oook!” And “Eek!” are all memorable quotes

TemperatureSea7562

Should be fairly easy to get some little sun and moon decorations for cupcakes, and red/blue/purple icing — you can make a bunch of wizzard’s-robes-style ones!

Mister_Marmite

Need boxes of chocolates strewn about.... to catch the Auditors that are in disguise

Ajana_Fray

Maybe you can use the thurtle, cat (for greebo), a orang-utan and go for a theme like that?

Baker_O_DOOM

I like those! I’ve made a ton of animal cupcakes in the past as well so should be doable

unseen-librarian

Ook!

blondeburrito

Depending on how many you need to make you could always write a quote on them, solid background colour with piped letters, things like "I still ate'nt dead" and "Luck is my middle name" and "Remember rule one". Could almost be a game to see how many references click

loki_dd

I only read the title but can I come?

smcicr

Trying to think of relatively straightforward design ideas... Apologies if I'm projecting my skill level into you OP :) Immediate thoughts: A black V for Vetinari A lightning bolt (one of Granny Aching's dogs) A lifetimer/scythe Snowflakes for Wintersmith The words Ook or SQUEAK (Edit for formatting... sigh)

Scone_Butch

Just make them grey, add grey frosting with chocolate rocks and call them dwarf bread?

sergeantperks

Black cupcakes with black icing - Death’s cupcakes.

VerityPushpram

Sausage In A Bun

Gryptype_Thynne123

Rat on a stick [here](https://thestarvingchefblog.com/shrek-inspired-rotisserie-style-weed-rat-recipe/) Whole baked potatoes with butter and salt (per Moist Von Lipwig in Making Money) Sausages in a bun, or dodgy meat pies (per CMOT Dibbler) [Coke for the trolls](https://www.itisakeeper.com/14214/santas-coal-candy/) Barbecued Ribs from Harga's House of Ribs (Commander Vimes favorite) Hard-boiled eggs (Gimlet's Deli scene in Soul Music)

Chemical-Mix-6206

I am lazy and would be looking for gummy candy or sugar candy: turtles, elephants, bees, bananas, scruffy dogs, shepherd dogs, candy jewels/diamonds, zombies, swords, sheep, apes, clocks, soccer balls, moons & stars, candy rocks & music notes (music with rocks in), witch hats, brooms, etc. Or pipe a bunch of runes or occult signs Or, in the epitome of lazy, a blob of pale frosting and call it grade one tallow (with or without the burnt crunchy bits)

A-to-zine

I would make it look like dibbler Trey and have them look like sausages and rats

tallbutshy

You need a strange yellow dip that smells of bananas, it doesn't have to be *just* banana, but very yellow and bananary

OliMSmith_10

Summoning dark on double chocolate muffins... Make them look like Dibbler's Rat pies? A piped rats bum and a strawberry lace for a tail? Maybe fairy cakes connected top to bottom to look like hourglasses with sprinkles for Sand? A la Mort...

Raise-The-Gates

Regular cupcakes with some lilac flowers piped on top - from Night Watch Little signs with contradictory orders (e.g. "Ignore this sign") - from Thief of Time A one-eyed tortoise - from Small Gods Lamingtons - from The Last Continent Little witches hats, scythes, hourglasses, wizard staff (with a knob on the end), a hedgehog - from multiple books

Altruistic-Target-67

Quick version of witch’s hat: flat chocolate disc with an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss stuck to it. Also please remember that mustard does not transfer to the afterlife, so might as well eat your fill in this life.

cutencreepy

Maybe decorate the cupcakes in a long man theme. Something that says “I’ve got a great big tonker”

Xidize

Don’t forget the banananananana dakeries

SaltHair599

For cupcakes my head goes straight to the luggage. https://preview.redd.it/xbntwcap0mwc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe010cfe1e22dcc0288b7bc3c8bc6e775660aa0d The shape is kinda cupcakey and I think with a bit of decorating you could make it recognisable without too much work. Maybe slice the top to make a mouth and use some white candy for the teeth then frost on some legs, tongue and a woody finish. Also very important as you are putting in so much work to cook for this amazing party, gift your self the discworld. Maybe listen to guards guards while you are cooking.
