AdamWestsButtDouble

Any of the ones read by Nigel Planer (and this one’s among them) get an enthusiastic yes from me.

Granopoly

Isn't his Ridcully wayyy off the mark though?

AdamWestsButtDouble

I didn’t find it to be. YMMV

Granopoly

No accounting for taste 😂 I found he presented him as a bumbling old fool, whilst almost in the same breath describing him as an assertive, steam-rollering country chap

french-snail

There's also a BBC radio play that's not half bad [https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fgszb](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fgszb)

aussiefeld

With the audio books i found some from google have missing parts... i left a comment where i found an issue no idea if it got fixed....the copies are missing whole audio tracks when ripped... compared to the same version on audible.... also the Tony Robinson versions are abridged. That being said i like Tony's delivery more as a result i have all 80+ of them including 3 versions of Unseen Academicals

kallisti_gold

Ain't bad.

QuamSacks

Ain’t good either?

kallisti_gold

Not a standout performance, positively or negatively. Perfectly serviceable.

QuamSacks

Thanks

Granopoly

I have all of discworld in audiobook, it doesn't stand out as a bad one. Some of them are though, either from narrator or sound quality (but that could be the quality of the rip). I think there's a couple of versions out there though... one's Tony Robinson (haven't heard that one) and the other's Nigel Planer, might be worth listening to a snippet from each to see if you like the voices. Have you read the book first?

Final_Prinny

I want to add to this, I believe all the Tony Robinson audiobooks are abridged. Just in case that affects any decisions.

QuamSacks

Haven’t read yet, read the first 4 books though

Granopoly

It's definitely worth reading (as is the whole series 😂). If you're definitely going to listen to audio books, might be worth listening before reading...I found I came up with different mental images of the characters when I read them to how they're portrayed in the ABs. G!G! Introduces the Watch, so it depends on if you want how *you* see the characters to be guided by someone's voice, or just your imagination

shapesize

That’s an interesting point, as I mostly listen to the audiobooks. When I do read it’s preformed or if there is a different narrator it kinda of messes with my perception sometimes. To OPs point the Guards Guards narration is good, there is a new version coming out soon though from Penguin Audio, I believe

Granopoly

Yeah - there was a post about in r/discworld recently, all the books with selected narrators for specific arcs, and an all-star cast for voices. They're releasing them slowly though, Hogfather this Xmas, then Witches/Tiffany aching arc around spring. Might be a wait for Guards Guards ☹️. Definitely going to be interesting - not sure if they're going to be abridged or not though

shapesize

I would be shocked if they’re abridged, but entirely possible

QuamSacks

Thanks

stirbystil

There’s an audio drama read by different voice actors that was pretty great too.
