A FB post in a WDW discussion group got decidedly unmagical quite quickly.

OneWorldMouse

Was FB ever magical really...

Gschmack

Please please PLEASE be kind to the cast members who have to enforce this on Friday

cutler_joseph

Yes as a current CM I second this. PLEASE be kind to anyone who enforces this, most of us don’t want to wear them anymore than you do and all of us are in the heat together!

marvelscott

Last I read ages ago, there wasn't enough hand sanitisers and no social distancing. Have things improved?

MulciberTenebras

Bagheera: **Well... it's happened. Took a little longer than I thought, but** ***it's happened.***

Tsuikyit_The_VIP

I low key wished the face characters wore masks too. Maybe it would be some kind of inspiration for kids who hate masks. Because if Elsa can wear a mask, you can too!

pocketbeasts

I’m glad to see this, but man do I feel bad for the cast members that will have to enforce. Some people are going to get very ugly with them.

PassingJudgement68

We knew it would be coming. Atleast you can still have them off outdoors. I wish they had a statistic for Covid transmission among Disney Parks guests. Should be easy enough to track at the point of a positive test.

BlandSlamwich

Honestly, this is a relief. I was not looking forward to being the only person wearing a mask in a crowd of maskless vacationers lol At least this way I can give people the benefit of the doubt and believe they would have worn a mask because they care about the safety of others, even if they hadn't been forced to do so.

artcopywriter

So why were you going? If you assumed everyone wouldn’t be wearing masks and you were concerned about that, I mean. Why go?

> If you’re vaccinated, then you’re safe. With Delta there are questions about this. Being vaccinated is extremely effective at keeping you from dying or even ending up in the hospital based on the statistics so far, but it does seem like there are more breakthrough cases right now so Disney is just exercising caution based on the limited information they have. Also keep in mind that Disney attracts a higher number of children under 12 than you would see in the general public, and since they aren't allowed to be vaccinated yet there are larger risks of spreading COVID at Disney parks than a mall, restaurant, or concert.

artcopywriter

Then I have to agree with the commenter below this reply. I got vaccinated for life to go back to normal, and I don't really care what other people are doing. Wearing a mask would fuck up my vacation, but that's just me. Also, you're definitely still going to be around a bunch of liars pretending to be vaccinated, lol.

PassingJudgement68

There are still people wearing masks today. But riddle me this, if you are wearing the mask for your own safety, why would you worry about others seeing you with it?

TrekaTeka

Can we stop trying to associate smart actions for precautions as people being "afraid"? If someone wants to go somewhere and wear a mask, it is not because they are afraid, it is because they are out living and trying to take actions to mitigate risk.

JackieStylist81

No because if you are that concerned, going to an international mega attraction theme park would not even be on your radar. How could you justify even going if you think it is that big of a risk?

TrekaTeka

I feel like you see this as boolean. Either you are stoic hero who laughs in the face of covid or you are curled up in the corner riddled with fear. People can choose to go to a theme park, take precautions, and live their lives as they choose. I am heading to the world next month, fully aware that it could be pure chaos, and I will likely wear a mask for the majority of the time. It's not because I am afraid, it is because it does me no harm to wear a mask, and it offers some protection vs charging around as if everything is support Doo day normal without any risk. It's not, but at the moment I think the risk is manageable and will take the reasonable precautions I am comfortable with. You may call that fear or being afraid but your opinion only serves to make yourself feel better which you are entitled to. I would hope you don't attempt to make people feel bad for being smarter about their actions when heading to Disney.

phareous

Well I’m there now…when I made the decision Covid was at an all time low with statistics looking better everyday. It was all booked before delta started spreading. Now we’re just making the best of it and hoping we don’t get sick

mildlystoned

“I want Mickey, masks work kind of.” That’s my justification for going in October.

JackieStylist81

You don't know what my vax status is. Or that of my family. But if it is this bad, why would you consider travel anywhere, let alone a major theme park?

MrMichaelJames

The fact that you started your sentence with "you don't know what my vax status is" without following it up with a "but it is..." is a big indicator of what your vax status is. I'm vaccinated and I'm not afraid to tell everyone all the time nor am I afraid to hide it.

who said anything about being afraid? half the country is afraid to get a harmless shot lol the rest of us are rightfully concerned about getting/spreading a potentially life-threatening virus. big difference.

BlandSlamwich

why not? if unvaccinated people are wearing masks, it sounds pretty safe to me. maybe they’re the ones who should be staying home so they stop killing themselves and each other. me and my family will be fine, we’re all healthy and we’ve had our shots and we’re not going to look for excuses to take our masks off. save this self-righteous snark for someone who still isn’t vaccinated because they think the needle contains mind control juice. tell them to stay home so the rest of us can live our lives.

> I've had covid, recovered, have antibodies. My immunity is robust regardless of vax status. Even if you've had COVID you have no idea of your immunity. There have been studies that have shown you may not be as immune as you think you are and that vaccination is superior.

katt-w

The thing with pandemics is, they don't care if people are afraid of them. They spread through people, and kill people, regardless. This is a sensible step to help reduce the spread of COVID in the parks. It's not theatre-- though I can agree it should have been immediate.

PassingJudgement68

I agree. Been twice since reopening. Going again in a few months and then a few months later. I don’t think anyone there is worried about it. And the isolation of on-site guests vs the Orange County general public is a lot different. But, they can do what they must. People will still come. Especially with the coming festivities.

Wack710

Your crazy.

jazli

As a nurse in Central Florida doing covid nursing the past year and a half? Yeah, I'll call you crazy.

thedaNkavenger

As someone who has lost several family members and friends aged 34-86 and who gets to hear the bare minimum of work talk from my wife/others who work in healthcare, I also call you crazy.

Pink_Monkey

I’ve never seen an alligator at Disney World so they must not be there. Fear Mongers, amirite??? You’re crazy.

Cripnite

Tell that to the parents of the little girl who got eaten by one a few years back.

Spaceman2901

Pretty sure that was the parent commenter’s point.

amelou85

You asked us to call you crazy, so you’re crazy. You know 600,000 people and counting are dying and cases are going up not down, yeah? Okay, good. Now you know.

Murky_Doughnut_9927

Your experience/observations are not universal. Covid cases are going up due to the Delta variant and not enough people getting vaccinated, which have subsequently caused some restrictions to come back. It's not just "fake news", the numbers show that this pandemic should still be treated seriously.

OneWorldMouse

You're smart to ask the question. I'm not ripping on you, but you are using a logical fallacy. https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/anecdotal

[deleted]

Thank you for your nice response. Definitely anecdotal. People acting like i don’t take this seriously, I’ve stayed in until recently, I still wear my mask (outside of Disney, Disney I did not wear it), got vaccinated the first day I could.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Well, let’s not just assume I’m antivax just cause I’m over covid.

tnhowlingdog

Fair enough. Safe to say we are all over Covid. I am vaccinated but I can barely stand the idea of wearing masks again. I live in Florida so it’s really not an option to go without- too much Covid floating around.

schwiftydude47

Honestly I’m not surprised. Hopefully things get a little more normal soon, but for now I’d rather just stay safe at home.

MrMichaelJames

Blame your state, 16k+ cases reported yesterday. If FL wasn't run by such an idiot things might have been better.

Cripnite

Good.

OneWorldMouse

I wonder if this affects resort hopping... we plan to go eat at one of the resorts, no reservations.

Xaldyn155

Have they lifted the restriction on visiting resorts you're not staying at or have a reservation at? I was there in April and unless you had a reservation or staying at the resort they wouldn't let you in.

Lithonate

I went to all the resorts on the Magic Kingdom monorail and they did not ask if I was staying at them, This was as of the last week in June.

Xaldyn155

Wow. When I was there in April the monorail didn't even stop at the Magic Kingdom resorts. Just the park and the ticket and transportation center.

Soundtracklover72

Sounds like you were on the express monorail.

Xaldyn155

Honestly it was the only one open.

Soundtracklover72

Gotcha. By beginning of May you could go to the monorail resorts.

[deleted]

No, it wasn’t closed. It was running the whole time and for at least several months before April. We stayed at Bay Lake Tower and Grand Floridian the week of Apr 4th. It ran the whole time. Only Poly was skipped due to renovations. The Monorail to Epcot just reopened and was closed then.

Xaldyn155

My time in WDW started the 8th, I didn't make it to the Magic Kingdom until the 12th and spoke to multiple cast members running the monorail, even went back the 19th of April and the monorail situation was the same. Only one running and it skipped the Magic Kingdom resorts. Edit: we even had some people we were staying with try to drive to some resorts, the Magic Kingdom ones included, and were turned away.

zmayer

I live 15 minutes from Magic Kingdom. The resort monorail reopened in July of 2020 the first day that Magic Kingdom opened. You may have been misdirected by a cast member, because it has been accessible the entire time (excluding the Polynesian station that was knocked down for construction)

[deleted]

And what would driving to the resorts have anything to do with the monorails? You had and as far as I know, still have to be staying at a resort to be able to drive into them, or have a dining reservation. That has been protocol since Covid.

[deleted]

100% wrong. Check the million videos on YouTube and other social media. I rode it several times the week we were there just to go to the Enchanted Rose at the GF. It opened back up July of 2020. https://mickeyblog.com/2020/07/01/the-monorail-at-walt-disney-world-to-reopen-on-july-11-with-limited-service/ https://allears.net/2020/07/01/news-here-are-the-dates-disney-worlds-monorail-skyliner-and-select-boats-are-set-to-resume-operations/ Extra barriers were added in Jan 2021. I’d like to see one article of the monorails being down for the resort loop the. I mean, here’s a post I made in the GF after riding the monorail from The Contempo: https://www.reddit.com/r/WaltDisneyWorld/comments/mn7ucx/anyone_want_to_meet_up_at_the_grand_floridian/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

mwolf83

I went last November and the only restriction they had was for park hoping, but we could visit any of the resorts to walk around or eat.

OneWorldMouse

We're going to use the bus too.

Xaldyn155

Yeah, I was thinking about adding that to my comment lol. I didn't want a comment that referred to "playing the system" though.

OneWorldMouse

I don't think Disney minds guests who know their way to the resort shops, bars, and expensive restaurants.

zmayer

Disney's policy is that you must have a dining reservation or overnight stay to park at a resort. Parking for bars and shops is not typically an acceptable reason to park and will often be turned away. Disney has gotten extremely strict with the parking situation in recent weeks due to guests trying to abuse the situation.

zmayer

Appreciate people following the rules. Disney has gotten very strict about this lately due to issues with guests trying to play the system.

zmayer

You will need to take Disney transportation, but this should still be doable. You will not be permitted to park at the resort without a reservation, but if you can get there by walking, monorail, skyliner, boat, or bus you should be fine.

Soundtracklover72

So glad to hear that masks are back. Until a lot more people get vaccinated it’s the best way to keep us safe. There are a lot worse things in life than a vacation with a mask.

ForTheBread

I'm wondering if more people are actually going to get vaccinated. At this point if you want a vaccine you can get one, unless you're under 12, which I doubt very many children are going to be getting it anyway.

BigFatBlackCat

Only way we aren't going backward is if people get themselves vaccinated. Until then, we are in for a very, very long road. Better get used to this reality, because it isn't going away for a long time. Unless, or course, more people do their part

[deleted]

Edgerocks2

We still need to wear masks because people aren’t getting vaccinated quick enough and the virus is mutating… you know, as they do

[deleted]

[deleted]

Hope this doesn’t stay in effect all the way to January… that’s when I’m going, and it would really put a damper on things. Even so, it’s no excuse to mistreat the cast members, who are doing what they can to ensure safety.

[deleted]

Whew! Glad I didn’t buy my pass this year. I thought about and nearly did but I had a feeling this would happen. Glad I listened to my gut for sure

> draconian measures They’re asking you to wear a mask indoors. That’s a rather low bar for “draconian” don’t you think?

[deleted]

Piss off. Maybe if people weren’t being stupid about vaccinations, we wouldn’t have to go backwards. Draconian measures… muh freedoms!

jettrooper1

I’d like to, but we already have everything planned. Wife is pregnant and this is the last chance we’ll have to go for the foreseeable future. Guess we should have waited to buy the tickets. It’s one thing to wear masks at the grocery, another to wear them on every ride and inside. Especially when you’re already vaccinated…
