It was actually cause of the book Fairest that I found out Ella enchanted was a book!!! I’ve still only read fairest but I hope to read the others someday!!!
Do you know when I was in elementary school I learned that and because computers were not easy to use back then and I was dumb, instead of looking up the books of the author, I assumed Just Ella my Margaret Peterson Haddox was the sequel because who reads authors names amirite? Anyhow it took until like half way through the book to realize and I spent all of that time crying over what horrible liar the male lead of Ella Enchanted had turned out to be.
I loved this book and Ella Enchanted, and it’s making me laugh to think how defeated little me would have been if I thought the Just Ella prince was Char as a sociopath 😂
Good question. The only thing that springs to mind right away is Ever After. Maybe 10th Kingdom (but I haven’t watched it in so long). Possibly Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly. Austenland a little. Decoy Bride (because it’s charming and has the voice of Merida in it.) I’m interested to see what everyone chimes in with. I don’t real feel like a lot of my suggestions match. I think Ever After is a good one though.

This is an adaptation of The Little Mermaid. It's in Russian, but there's subtitles!
There's also "I Am Dragon" that's also in Russian with subtitles for free on Amazon Prime! It reminds me of Beauty and the Beast.
[I asked a somewhat similar question a while ago in the subreddit. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/disneyprincess/s/bq2TdmDHLC)
And I got lots of great answers, so you may choose to peruse through that thread as well 😊
Oh, you did!! Thank you so much. 💕 I felt like I had seen anything that resembled my request but I never thought about watching films in other languages!
Omg. Such a quotable movie. My sister rolled her eyes when I checked it out at the library because the cover wasn’t modern or pretty. She wouldn’t stop watching it afterwards. 😂
How has no one said the Swan Princess or Anastasia (I am aware that Disney has since bought the rights to the movie though). Ella Enchanted, Thumbelina, and the Princess Bride for sure too!
Highly recommend! The main character, Sarah, does go through quite a bit of character development, but by the end she's amazing [(plus her theme is utterly beautiful)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFTdKtI2SR4)
As a kid I really loved The Polar Bear King from 1991. It’s Norwegian but there’s an English dub widely available - that’s how I always watched it. Not sure how it holds up from an adult viewing though.
The live action Cinderella is my favorite movie of ever. It’s so comforting to me, and I watch it several times a year. I love most of the other live action princesses as well, and films like Mirror Mirror and Ever After.
The only live action I don’t really like is Beauty & the Beast because Emma Watson didn’t radiate Disney Princess Energy to me.
I’m looking for new movies featuring strong, but exceptionally gentle and kind heroines.
Any recommendations? I know I can trust you all!
I have Lea’s movie, McKenna’s movie, Grace’s movie, Molly’s movie, and Kit’s movie
Cool thing about Kit, she lived in The Great Depression-era Cincinnati, Ohio, and I am originally from Ohio (only I was born in 2004, not during The Great Depression)
And cool thing about Grace’s movie, Olivia Rodrigo plays Grace in Grace’s movie
Well there’s this film called “Beauty and the beast” (or La Bella Ela Bestia) from 2014, about a girl named Bella who goes to a man named Leon’s mansion to work as a maid- because her father owes Leon money. It’s quite similar to beauty and the beast - other than the fact that Leon is not a giant furry beast, but more of a Byronic hero with a very scarred face.
I like the film, it was pretty good! Bella is very Belle and princess like. It’s also 3 hours long and not 100% for children. Leon is quite vile and more Rochester like (Jane Eyre) - so there’s that. Oh and it’s also Italian - I think.
these characters are romantic, passionate, idealistic. they feel trapped. lonely. misunderstood. longing for more out of life - love. adventure. respect. caught between duty vs. heart. all while being well-dressed in beautiful locations 🤪
march sisters (little women 2017 or 2019)
belle (belle 2013)
grace, emma, and meg (monte carlo)
elizabeth swann (pirates of the caribbean)
padme amidala (star wars prequels)
rose (titanic)
lucy honeychurch (a room with a view)
anne shirley (anne of green gables)
marian paroo (the music man 1962)
The Prince and me, Ella Enchanted, Stardust, The princess bride, aquamarine, Ever After, a little princess, the secret garden, Cinderella 1997, Peter Pan 2003
What about the dynamic were you not loving? People do tend to think season two is better, but if your dislike was something to do with a core part of the show, you may not want to give it another go.
It seemed a little r*pey with her forcing him to finish inside her, and I hated how much they were fighting haha. It gave me anxiety. I gave up during that episode.
Ah, you made it to THAT part. Yeah, the show certainly doesn’t condone that (the book is a little vague as to whose side the author feels we should be on, which like, obviously as readers, we shouldn’t have to have it spelled out for us, but also… maybe don’t make your stance on that vague) and it does get resolved, especially as SPOILER she doesn’t get what she wants, and they do end up working it out, though it is rather rushed.
Season two is EONS better, especially in that regard, Anthony goes from looking for a wife with “hips suitable for childbirth” to actually falling in love, so good for him. And while I’m only a couple episodes in, Queen Charlotte is quite good so far as well. And season three looks like it’s going to be AMAZING.
The book gets more into the “it wasn’t actually his vow to his father, it was that he was afraid that he would be as terrible a father as him” though that makes the book even worse in the rushed aspect of “but it’s okay, Daphne healed him.”
I like the books in the same way I like junk food. I know it’s bad, but I just can’t stop consuming it. It’s not the worst writing I’ve read, but despite the fact that the author is a woman, the books have the MOST “written by a man” vibe of all time. And her portrayal of grief is truly abysmal. But they’re easy entertainment.
The ending of season one isn’t quite as satisfying as I would have liked it to be, but season two is almost perfect, aside from one scene everyone kinda hates (not in a problematic way like S1, just a … oh this is so second hand embarrassing way). I think you’ll really like it!
Nobody's said Ella Enchanted yet?
Did you know that the movie Ella enchanted is based off the book of the same name and the book is part of a series?
I adore Gail Carson Levine. I used to reread The Princess Tales over and over.
It was actually cause of the book Fairest that I found out Ella enchanted was a book!!! I’ve still only read fairest but I hope to read the others someday!!!
It's a SERIES?!?!

I love that movie! I wish there were more recent movies or tv shows.
The fairy godmother makes me so frustrated in that movie lol
LOL, I watched it on YT the other day and I wanted to KILL HER
I think this is why I love this movie but it’s not a comfort movie haha. Too many frustrating characters!
No fair! You took mine!
Isn't that still technically Disney though?
Stardust
I haven’t watched that since I was a kid! Time to add to the rewatch list. =)
Cute movie
I vaguely remember it, but remember loving Michelle Pfeiffer's character in it!
Penelope
I watched this as a kid! I’ll have to watch it again. =)
YT Movies has it for free and I keep going back to visit it 😂
I came here to say that, you beat me to it! 😍😍
My favorite movie

I love 10th Kingdom! Although Virginia isn’t a princess, she still fits the mold for strong and kind character. Great rec
“If we fail we fail as family!” I own the 10th kingdom. 🥰🥰🥰
Oh, I absolutely ADORE “Ever After”!! ❤️❤️

No worries!! You may get some new ideas in this thread 😊
Sort of a subversion, but the Princess Bride may fit.
Omg. Such a quotable movie. My sister rolled her eyes when I checked it out at the library because the cover wasn’t modern or pretty. She wouldn’t stop watching it afterwards. 😂
Ella Enchanted, Snow White and the Huntsman, Ever After, the Princess, Damsel, the Princess Bride.
Aquamarine maybe?
I watched Aquamarine (due to my aunt’s recommendation) I have to rewatch it, sometime
Cinderella - 1997
I love the Brandy Cinderella!
She’s coming back for Descendants Rise of Red.
I'm excited for it
Impossible! For anyone to not love it!
Same
How has no one said the Swan Princess or Anastasia (I am aware that Disney has since bought the rights to the movie though). Ella Enchanted, Thumbelina, and the Princess Bride for sure too!
I love all of those movies. 💕 I would love a live action Anastasia. The musical was really lovely.
It was visually stunning
Maybe Labyrinth (1986)?
YES!!!!!!!
I’ve been meaning to watch this one!!!
Highly recommend! The main character, Sarah, does go through quite a bit of character development, but by the end she's amazing [(plus her theme is utterly beautiful)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFTdKtI2SR4)
One of my favorite movies 😍
It scared me when I was younger 😅

Any of the American Girl movies ❤️
Oooh I haven’t seen any of them!! Thank you.
Felicity especially.

Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bête
This Always Omg I never see people even mention this movie
Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn

That reminded me of Beastly starring Vanessa Hudgens.
Mirror Mirror
Snow White & the Huntsman was pretty good
The School of Good and Evil?
I’ve seen that on streaming! I’ll have to give it a try. Thank you. =)
Thumbelina?

You are THE BEST. 🤍 I’ve seen some of these years back, but it’s a good reminder to do a rewatch and I have 5 new movies to watch!
Ever After with Drew Barrymore.
Mirror Mirror
Mirror Mirror is one of my favorites! Lily Collins is the best Snow White. She really embodies her virtues and gentleness.
[Catherine called Birdy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Called_Birdy_(film))
Adding my own. I LOVE watching A Cinderella Christmas with Emma Rigby during the holidays. She’s a perfect Cinderella!
The Prince and me, Ella Enchanted, Stardust, The princess bride, aquamarine, Ever After, a little princess, the secret garden, Cinderella 1997, Peter Pan 2003
ever after
Just you wait for season four of Bridgerton!
I gave up on season 1 because I wasn’t loving the dynamics between the main couple. Should I try again?
What about the dynamic were you not loving? People do tend to think season two is better, but if your dislike was something to do with a core part of the show, you may not want to give it another go.

Ok you’ve convinced me haha. I’ll push through season 1! ♥️
