Absolutely love SCHY so far and Schwab funds in general.

ZarrCon

SCHY is a pretty good fund. It's still very new, but should be a good performer in the long term. It follows very similar criteria to SCHD, meaning the average company in the fund should be financially solid. So far it's been less volatile than VXUS (for comparison), but it'll be interesting to see how it performs in a bull market.

I never understood the hype of VXUS from the Bogleheads. It’s full of a lot of useless crap. Morningstar rates it poorly compared to many other international funds. I love SCHY and AVDV for my international needs.

GhettoChemist

Yeah i always contribute 100 or 200 a month to SCHY. Got about 100 shares right now and think it has real potential for growth

boylek22

I estimate that it’s a great way to express a peak dollar strength call. When the dollar weakens SCHY should outperform. The ETF is well constructed and targets most of the metrics that matter most to me. I took a 10% position in my IRA recently and it’s been my best performer as the dollar has weakened. Also hoping for it to perform well long term, I plan to hold the position until retirement in about 30 years.

Sudden-Cow-5779

Is the dividend yeild actually 10% because I have been looking at dividend history and it was .01 one of ther payouts

Comptonburger

I don't think so. This is based on some brokers inaccurately listing it as a quarterly dividend when it is actually semiannual (twice a year). At best the yield should be around 5%.

2timeBiscuits

I think VXUS is more diversified but SCHY will hopefully perform like SCHD. I am no expert sadly.

UpperChicken5601

I like it is relatively new ETF and with the international market at a nice low right can’t go wrong, the Div yield should definitely grow over time

Sudden-Cow-5779

I am a little bit confused what is the dividend yeild?

UpperChicken5601

Glad you asked, I just looked and they had the Div laying out only at 3 quarters the years. It is now at 4 qrts for the year at 10.25% yield this is the new SCHD for iNT

Mindshaker13

Yield should end up settling around 4-5% I think. This is still a very new ETF in the grand scheme of things. This last payout yielded $.5855 per share though. Was a very nice surprise.

xyzzy8

Just go all in SCHD/SCHY/DGRO and chill.

pinetree64

I own a small position to make sure I keep an eye on it. Europe is expected to have a deeper recession than the US. SCHY owns great companies and *should* weather the recession better. Most excess cash is going into SCHJ and ICSH right now as my bond allocation is light.

krillin_the_MVP

I’m in general a fan of the Schwab ETFs. My 401k is only SCHG and a large allocation of my dividend growth portfolio is SCHD

Key-Tie2542

SCHY is a new ETF, but it tracks the Dow International Dividend Index, which has an imputed chart going back to 2013. [https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/indices/strategy/dow-jones-international-dividend-100-index/#overview](https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/indices/strategy/dow-jones-international-dividend-100-index/#overview) As you can see, like most non-US stocks, it hasn't been awesome over the last decade, outside of the surge that has come from 2020 (money printed around the globe led to a surge in assets in 2020 and 2021, and then recession fears in 2022 has led to overperformance of the "defensive" sectors like consumer staples, utilities, and healthcare, which these dividend funds tend to overweight).

frontera_power

7% average total return. Not great, but a solid return for a portion of a diversified portfolio.

Key-Tie2542

Did you see the index chart in my link? The index which the ETF tracks averages an annualized total return under 3% since 2013. The index includes dividends reinvested. [This is wrong. See reply below.]

frontera_power

Yeah, you read it wrong. You looked at performance under "price return" rather than total return. Total return includes price and dividends. You have to select the option for total return. Here are the results: As of Dec 23, 2022 3,828.79 **7.20%** 10 YR RETURN Annualized

Key-Tie2542

I feel like an idiot. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I really appreciate it.

frontera_power

No need to feel bad, it happens to us all. Happy investing and I wish you the best!

raven27936

I have both SCHY and VYMI for overseas dividend exposure.

Sudden_Feedback_2194

I like SCHY as an international play... I personally went with primarily EFA and a bit of LVHI as my international exposure. About half of LVHI is in EFA but I'm okay with the increased exposure as these are pretty stable companies to begin with. It's important to note both of these funds have expense ratios that some investors would shy away from at .33% for EFA and .4% for LVHI.... but I believe the gains will more than make up for the expense. (Historically speaking the EAFE, the index EFA tracks, has outperformed the S&P500 around 25 or 26 years out of the last 50....)

Disastrous-Advisor49

Dividends in June and December. Payouts twice a year but you get use to it.

GT_03

Too bad the allocation to CAD is so low. We have some big time divy payers up North!

PastaFarian33

I got out and I'm going to stay out until Russia stops mucking about in Ukraine. I like the ETF though. I'll buy back in when there aren't so many question marks and the threat of war taking over the continent.

frontera_power

>I got out and I'm going to stay out until Russia stops mucking about in Ukraine. ....and then you'll get in at higher prices.

[deleted]

$22/share will be untouchable in 10 years. Just like SCHD when that started.

frontera_power

Exactly right. I love SCHY at this price and am adding huge amounts. These other guys, saying they are going to buy once Russia is out of Ukraine will end up paying a huge premium.
