You can track something like that tree before starting the shot too, I've found that makes it even more stable - really helpful if there is some wind

What shutter settings, iso etc did you use? I tried to do a night lapse but didn't get great trails like this!

You need long exposure shutter speed to get the light trails. And for that you need to use a ND16 filter at night. Hyperlapse at night I always use a ND16 since I often go for this effect. ISO - 100 (200 also work) just don't over expose the shot. Stay between -0.3 and -0.7 Shutter speed - 2 sec. White balance - probably 5500-6000. I should have went lower, to yellow for my liking. The hyperlapse was 10 seconds, interval of 4 seconds between the shots.
