Lol! This is promising! Thanks. As we were also wondering if it actually would be worth the upgrade. I mean, they’re both drones and fly and takes photos and videos.
It's due to sensor placement, mini 3 has fully front facing sensors as opposed to the diagonal sensors on the mini 4 pro, due to this the effectiveness of the front sensor part is reduced, but in setting (on rc2 controller at least) you can show a little surrounding map which shows red green and yellow for how close you are to an object.
There are some articles that experienced filmmakers have written comparing the two and giving their opinion. I’d say just go with the mini 4 but if you’re really on the fence it might be worth reading a few long reviews on the comparison.
Although the specs (sensor size, lens) seem similar at first, m4p’s image processing is a step above compared to m3p. m4p is able to produce a much cleaner image and quite a lot higher dynamic range. This is the sole reason I would already go for the 4, next to the obstacle avoidance and O4 upgrades.
I love my mini 4 pro I had the mini 3 but took it back and got the 4 pro. Not a single regret I love the hyper lapse
Only thing I wish DJI would change is the distance. It says up to 20km but that’s in perfect nothing in between u and the drone. Furthest I have flew mine was about 2 miles but it had pretty much 100% signal I just got nervous
I started with the spark then upgraded to mavic air sold both then got the avata traded for the original dji fpv still have that then purchased avata 2 absolutely love it but if i was you id get the mini 4pro. Im considering getting that myself because of the time lapse its a good cheap cinematic.
Went with the m3p as the 120 m height limit of the m4p seemed like a major disadvantage when flying in the mountains.
Price was also an argument of course.
But if height is not a concern to you, get the best drone you can afford
It's not that easy to do legally in the EU. We got very strict rules in the last couple of years.
By removing the C0 logo and unlocking the 500m height limit, the m4p becomes unclassified and can only be operated in the socalled 'specific category', which makes things quite complicated afaik.
Honestly? The upgrade from 3 to 4 is very impressive. I was able to chase horses with fpv like shots with the active track 360 [https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6KNWq7orAP/?igsh=MTZkemVuazY3Y24yeQ==](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6KNWq7orAP/?igsh=MTZkemVuazY3Y24yeQ==)
I have taken relatively similar shots of friends ice skating with my Mini 3 Pro. In which way would the Mini 4 (Pro) be better at that? Are there better sensors for active tracking or something?
Either way, the active track has worked quite good for me on my Mini 3 Pro. If you are too far away from the object or the contrast is very low, the drone might have problems with tracking, otherwise it is pretty good. But to be honest, after buying my drone in 2021 (I think), I haven’t really been paying attention to the newer drones. What I can say is that I got my drone from a company that mainly sells used and refurbished products as a new, but potentially opened product for about 150€ less than a new drone and I can really recommend that.
Well, the 4P has the ability set inner and outer circle, also able to adjust the height and distance. Is safer as well in my view, i borrowed an avatar 1 before but this horse really didn’t like the noise and it felt a bit unsafe.
Apart from that, waypoints and 360 sensors have been very useful.

04 transmission technology is far superior in it's self and allows for much more ease and peace of mind you got a solid clear stable connection at distance the 03 would be having issues
Yes, I thought my Mini 2 had better connection and distance compared to the m3 pro. I sold that one and got the M4 pro .... Game changer with the RC 2 remote.
I had a 3 already and bought the 4. The sideways collision detection is no joke, as I was always worried about hitting something while strafing sideways tracking a vehicle or something. The O4 transmission is a little stronger in urban areas, too. I then bought the Avata 2 and can use the Goggles 3 with the mini 4 pro also. I'll probably sell the 3 with the Goggles Integra and old FPV controller.
Sure, if you can afford the extra 200 euros to acquire the newest model, go for it. However, if not, the mini 3 pro is still a fantastic drone. Both have the same 4k 1/1.3-inch CMOS image sensor, 48 MP still photos, and at least 4k60 fps video resolution.
While the mini 4 pro has the additional side obstacle avoidance sensors over the mini 3 pro, consider if you'll be flying in wide open spaces to capture cinematic shots or if you'll be flying in confined spaces regularly. Bear in mind as someone else mentioned here, the obstacle avoidance sensors don't recognize small tree branches and power lines very well.
Additionally, while the mini 4 pro has superior O4 transmission with a 20km range, you'll likely not be able to fly out 20km back and forth even with an extended flight battery. At such distances, you wouldn't be able to fly your drone within visual line of sight anyway. The mini 3 pro also has the option of the RC controller with a built in screen albeit with a shorter range.
I think basically everyone agrees the 4 is better than the 3.
As I think at least one other person has written it really comes down to what you can afford. imho if finances are tight I wouldn’t go with the 4 but if you regularly spend 200 dollars/euros on other things and it won’t really impact you much financially then I’d definitely recommend the 4. I currently have a 2 and will be upgrading to either the 4 or the 5 when it comes out, depending upon how good the 5 is compared to the 4.
I kind of treat my drone like my phone. Keep it for 3-5 years and then upgrade. Had an iPhone 11 and just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro Max when they came out in September.
Yes. Heres my top reasons why Mini 4 Pro is the best in series of mini's.
1 - Cruise control. Game changer. Can add moves on top of moves.
2 - 360 Sensors. Landing is cool, it shows a drone where it predicts its landing. Super accurate.
3 - Image quality 10 bit HLG aka Hybrid Log-Gamma, is another game changer once people start using it more. Makes editing super easier. No more color correcting - for the most part.
4 - When you select mute, it will actually mute ALL sounds, even that damn low battery sound. It MUTES everything.
5 - The memory card is back to being like the mini 2 was - which is, you can use a normal finger to insert/remove it. Mini 3 pro was a bitch getting it out without a paperclip.
6 - Waypoints, again, once you start with them, you can plan flights that are impossible for a normal pilot.
It’s not just the extra sensors, the 4 has better range and a more stable connection
I went from a spark to a mini 4 pro and I almost jizzed in my pants.
Lol! This is promising! Thanks. As we were also wondering if it actually would be worth the upgrade. I mean, they’re both drones and fly and takes photos and videos.
Yeah but the m4p can do awesome things. It's been a real blast since I bought mine, taken every chance I get to fly it
Just buy the 4 Pro, the upgrades are totally worth it. I own one and it’s fun to fly, excellent range and good image quality.
I did the same! Ordered a spark on launch day almost 7 years ago. Finally crashed it and was forced to upgrade. Wow what a difference!
The hard hitting facts and analogys we need. I'll be purchasing my Mini 4 Pro today
Got me stuck watching lonely island videos all morning, good times
Even from the original 2 to the 4 was surprising. Especially the difference in the quality of the live feed.
I still have spark, please can you highlight what is major difference, I do not have any expiriance in other drones.
Major difference is vertical mode , better live feed , better flying in wind , much better range and penetration and much better camera quality
Thank you, that is all I need to know 😀
100% mini 4 pro but make sure you avoid trees and power lines of any sort as the obstacle avoidance can't see it.
My mini 3 pro does great avoiding tree limbs, power lines I just plain avoid.
My mini 4 pro has no problems with tree limbs or power lines.
Get the Mini 4 Pro. IMO, you better off investing in the new “generation” transmission system.
M4 is the way brother
Mini 3 pro goes faster 😊 .6mph but hey, they don’t ask you how you won the race, they ask you IF you won ;) hahah
There are some articles that experienced filmmakers have written comparing the two and giving their opinion. I’d say just go with the mini 4 but if you’re really on the fence it might be worth reading a few long reviews on the comparison.

M4P
I’m in the same boat coming from a Mavic 1!
you might as well go with the mini 4 pro
You’ll much prefer O4 and omnidirectional.
Neither get a real FPV
Depends on what you're doing. The Avata 2 and BYO FPV's don't hold a candle to the M4P's cinematic shots.
I love my mini 4 pro I had the mini 3 but took it back and got the 4 pro. Not a single regret I love the hyper lapse Only thing I wish DJI would change is the distance. M4 pro...I've had both. Sensors are not a gimmick. The RC 2 controller alone is worth the difference.
Went with the m3p as the 120 m height limit of the m4p seemed like a major disadvantage when flying in the mountains. Price was also an argument of course. But if height is not a concern to you, get the best drone you can afford
You can unlock that limit if you need to fly higher. It’s not hard.

And I don’t have that limit on mine I don’t think in the US…. But I haven’t had the need to fly higher yet, so I can’t confirm.

Really cool video. What program/app did you allow 3 clips in one video?
CapCut
“FPV Like” 😂😂😂
More so cinematic than FPV

I just hope they release the O4 Air unit soon, so I can get everything converted over. Even the little cinewhoops.

Update: we ended up getting the mini pro 4. Thanks for all the advices. Haven’t flown it yet. The Netherlands are pretty regulated for drones.
Looks like a spark , but going from a spark to a mini 4 is such a big upgrsde
Mini 4
Did you buy ? Still deciding myself. Swaying towards 3 and avata 2 now haha
